I'm now given to concluding that a lot of Nigerian men suffer lack of exposure, confidence in their own abilities and experience, hence their lack of compunction to insist on generalising and debasing women in this ungainly fashion.

News Flash: Not every woman is interested in the meagre income you make, not every woman is overtly interested in whatever car you have. Men who only attract such babes are men who have no residue of confidence in themselves and attempt to make up for it with material possessions and flashy gifts to such girls. Check yourself, mate, before you point the accusing finger at a sister!

@bootysue, it's Ra....

If there's any Virgin gym in your area, I reccomend that you join the gym again. Stopping it abruptly and possibly reverting to a not so healthy diet would pump anyone up. That was a mistake, but a rectifiable one. Virgin's got the abductor I'm telling you about and believe me, I know what I'm saying. My challenge is not so much my backside (which I reiterate is a fixed asset smiley) but my hips..... too much details. Anyways, try Virgin.. it's twice as expensive as what you say you paid earlier but worth every pence.

TV/Movies / Re: Common Flaws in Nigerian Home Videos by Ra(f): 5:39pm On Jul 14, 2005
Time.

I really wish Nigerian film makers would look into the issue of time wastage. Flashbacks are the order of the day and it can be terribly annoying. I see a lot of Nigerian movies and I must say I am continually impressed but let's get rid of the load of 'rubbish' we pack in the films to drag them on endlessly.

If irrelevant parts can be edited, people would love these films even more.

My humble opinion.

Health / Re: Why Do We Keep Suffering From Malaria? by Ra(f): 4:09pm On Jul 14, 2005
Still on the issue of malaria but marrying it to the disheartening issue of fake drugs in Nigeria, did you know that some people who travel back home to Nigeria are plagued by malaria? This in itself is not unusual, the immune system shuts down over the years and such people are more susceptible to the malaria parasite.

What I find terribly sad however, is the fact that some of these people go to the pharmacists and procure anti-malaria drugs with their own money only to find out when it's far too late that such drugs were fake. I know of at least 3 unfortunate people who died last year as a result of that. Malaria patients are quarantined here, as I imagine in most other western countries and we were not allowed to even visit this poor girl. She died a month later and was discovered at her inquest that she must have taken a heavy dose of fake drugs.

May God help us in this our Nigeria, may God help us all.

Nairaland / General / Re: How Did You Spend Your Weekend? by Ra(f): 3:19pm On Jul 14, 2005
A bit late to talk about my weekend seeing as another one is right at the door.... but talk about it I still will wink

I went out of town (well, just about 2 hours drive really) to see my uncle, his wife and my cousin. I had such a wonderful time. On Saturday night, my cousin's friend threw his engagement party and we were there till about 2 am. I met his friends for the first time but we all hit it off like gas and fire. I had been a bit prepared not to like them cos they,.. well...... I was the only black person there and had thought they might all act funny but we could have been friends forever really. My aunt is white, which makes my cousin half-caste.

Anyways, Sunday was spent in the 'woods'. It was an experience for me as well o, cos that was my first time ever going for a walk in the woods save for my days as an Agric student in FGGC Shagamu. As the British custom is, we went to the pub thereafter and I ... very reluctantly came back home and prepared for work. Thank God it's Friday again tomorrow.

Romance / Re: "Don't Touch Me!" She Shouts, after Deliberately Brushing Me by Ra(f): 3:03pm On Jul 14, 2005
..... sigh.

To comment on the original issue, I would say that it was possible the lady very legitimately felt you were groping her and any woman worth her weight in salt would react to that. The 'brush' against you might have been anything but deliberate. Maybe someone bumped into her and she in turn thought you were the one getting fresh with her. For every action, there's a reaction. To call a spade a spade and not a digging equipment, I personally think it very rude for a guy to walk up to me and ask for a dance or try to chat me up knowing fully well that I'm with another guy. If it's a house party or something and we are all friends or even friends of friends, it would be alright but not in a club, please NO!

Women, unfortunately I must add, seem to have very little respect and reputation in Nigeria and most African countries to be frank. A fact I find rather sad and untrue. It is nothing short of a fallacious argument for a guy to assume that because the last two girls he dated were after nothing but his money, it stands to reason that all or the majority of Nigerian women are extortionists. Some guy (who I barely even now control myself from calling a certain name because I’m a good Christian woman wink) walks up to me yesterday on my way home from work and was told in no uncertain terms to save his lyrics for the US Marine. He had the guts to say he was sure if he’d rolled up in his BMW X5 I would have had a different reaction….. a Nigerian guy no less. I could and would have smacked him over the head but for the unpalatable thought of even coming into any form of contact with the …… element. Women on the other hand sometimes do not diligently fight our own causes either.

In any event, I doubt if I know a single lady who would react as the madam in question purportedly reacted. But then again, I'll reiterate what I always say and believe so strongly in, study a situation before you get involved, what you see is what you get and what you give is certainly what you get in return. If you treat your girl like she means nothing to you, she'll reciprocate and take solace in your good looks, your money, your car or whatever material possession you have that attracts her.

There I go deviating again: occupational hazard. Essence of my post?......... Learn to cut women some slacks and refrain from generalising. Unfortunate as what happened with this babe was my brother, she was not acting on behalf of all women as you guys were quick to conclude.

Touche.
Religion / Re: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by Ra(f): 11:55am On Jul 14, 2005
@makgod, you seem to have misread my opinion on this issue.

I believe strongly in paying one's tithe. If you bother to read my postings again, you'll realise that much is obvious.
Family / Re: If Your Newlywed Husband is Impotent by Ra(f): 10:54am On Jul 14, 2005
You're arguing very different points.

Under Common Law, which is the Law practised in Nigeria as well as England, a marriage is not valid until it is consummated. If the husband is unable to consummate the marriage or whatever reason, then it is rendered void ab inito as I earlier explained, regardless of the kind of ceremony it was... church or Court. Traditional marriage however falls under another system and the decision rests solely on the concerned party. However a man cannot decide to end a marriage for lack of consummation unless the wife blatantly refuses to sleep with him for reasons best known to her.

Christendom is an entirely different kettle of fish.

Health / Re: Problem of Fake Drugs in Nigeria by Ra(f): 12:10am On Jul 13, 2005
@Ka, I saw the same programme and my goodness, I was positively livid.

I was particularly livid at the heartless people who would pour water in drips and sell to terribly sick people, pushing them to their untimely graves. I could have shot the Indian woman who boasted of how she cuts pieces of chalk to represent Panadol and the Indian man who boasted of his large factory of fake drugs.

I was moved to tears when the couple who lost their 18 month old baby to fake drugs were interviewed. American surgeons went to Nigeria to operate on children for free but everything conceivable went wrong after the operations, the kids died, owing to fake drugs. The heart of man is indeed hopelessly wicked.

I commend Dr. Dora and I wish her and her administration every success. There is a woman with a genuine passion for her calling. What paradise on earth Nigeria would be if half the Ministers and people occupying senatorial positions possessed half as much the passion she does towards their diverse jobs.

Family / Re: If Your Newlywed Husband is Impotent by Ra(f): 11:34pm On Jul 12, 2005
@Greatpeter, if you care to read`my earlier post on this topic, you'll know I said it already that the marriage is void ab initio, from the word go, which means it was never a marriage in the first place. That is the law.. no consummation, no marriage.

There.. I've said it. I'm a lawyer, I'm in the house, let me hear your say... smiley
Dating And Meet-up Zone / Re: In Search of a Decent Girl in Nigeria by Ra(f): 7:48pm On Jul 12, 2005
I believe kazey has succinctly answered that question but permit me to add one or 2 lines:

If guys would learn to look in the right places, they would find the right girls/ladies for them. However, it takes a decent guy to fully engage a decent lady in a serious relationship. Look in the mirror first; what you give is what you get.

Religion / Re: To Tithe or Not to Tithe? by Ra(f): 12:53pm On Jul 12, 2005
The funny thing about this discussion is that there is nowhere in the Bible where tithe or any other commandment for that matter was made mandatory. It's all about choice. If you believe that you ought to pay your tithe, then by all means, go ahead. If you think it's unfair because pastors will have control of the funds……., it's your decision either way.

What I know is that every commandment has an attached promise or outcome. As my brother said 'jack' (read) Malachi. Just for the record, I hope we all know the Bible implied that pastors should not work and yet must not lack anything....... read up on the history of the Levites.
Health / Re: Swimming for Life by Ra(f): 12:49pm On Jul 12, 2005
Swimming is a very good form of exercise and it comes highly recommended. It's one of the few exercises that tones up every part of your body. The best part of it is that you can actually unwind while you swim, relax and enjoy yourself.

Ah well, to anyone who's interested in learning, the only barrier between you and a very good swimmer is the fear of water, remove that and you'll be inventing your own styles yet.

@mamba..... na wah for you. May you not drown while grabbing more than the floater.
Health / Re: To Slim Down My Rear End by Ra(f): 12:43pm On Jul 12, 2005
@bootysue, to some it might be a 'fixed asset'... your booty, to others, yourself inclusive, it might just be a bit too much.

If it bothers you that much darling, all you have to do is join a gym. There are very effective exercises for your rear. There's a particular one called the abductor, it's really very effective and one for your hips as well.

Thanks to advanced and yet advancing technology, these things are not as impossible as they used to appear. The very last thing I'll advice a woman to do is go under the knife for the sake of looking good. Plastic surgery should be the last resort in a drastic event such as facial or gross bodily harm during an accident... automobile or fire..etc, in my humble opinion.

Good luck babe.

Thanks guys.

Things seem to have calmed down considerably now. It's highly unfortunate that innocent people had to die and many more remain in critical condition, but it could have been worse and we thank God for His infinite mercies.

Yeah, I was so touched by Angelgal's thoughfulness. Now that is what I call 'brotherly love'. God bless you Angelgal for your kind heart.
