About my holiday job.

I was able to get a holiday job through a job agent to work at UPS logistics facility.

The working environment is just the same as described by Franknetter in his dairy.

I had to work for 8 good hours standing Monday to Friday. The section I was attached with is called the 'Outbound'. What we do basically is packaging of orders on the conveyor into cartons that fit them.
Trust me, it was hectic working in this section because my supervisor was a workaholic and he keeps saying "Schneller Schneller (faster faster), Zeit kostet geld (Time is money) ". Ah yes, do you remember my Deutsch is 'Sehr schlecht( very bad)?' Despite the fact that UPS is an American company, majority of the staff speak Deutsch and don't understand English.

I happened to be attached with a supervisor that does not understand English, so I had to improve my language skills. Many thanks to the few hours I sacrificed on DW.com, I was able to understand majority of what he was saying and right now, I can tell you that my vocabulary has improved a little, but my listening skills improved the most.
Luckily for me, there was a native English speaker in my section and he helped me with translations and even information I wasn't aware of because of the language.

Shey I said 80% of them don't understand English, and UPS being an American company, the computers were all programmed in English, that eased another part of the work for me because we had to print some stuffs from the data base. I later realized majority of them don't know what they are doing on the computer because they had just crammed what to do and don't know when there's an error in the system.

In short, I did this boring blood sucking job for couple of weeks. It was the same routine every Monday to Friday. Waking up at 5am to prepare breakfast and lunch, sometimes dinner ( there's no place to buy food around the facility, I miss Nigerian work environment for this. At least one canteen will have opened shop just because of us, or one old woman would have opened a bread and akara or beans center). Catching the bus by 7am and meeting the same set of people on the bus, heading to the store at the train station to buy Coca-Cola or yogurt, still getting to meet the same set of people in the store as well, getting to work, finishing work and getting home at 9pm.

It was so boring and it was as if I was leaving in a loop(those kind of things about studying a person routine and carrying out a robbery action or assassination is real because I lived it first hand. In fact at certain period of time, I know where we would meet red light and where we often meet green light).

Apart from being a boring job, by the time I get home, all joints would have gone separate ways. I also started having a rocky relationship with my supervisor due to many reasons.

I later resigned before the expiration of my contract because I needed to face my priority here and also get enough rest for the semester ahead.

Weldone man. The standing thing is getting clear. You sit, the money also sits down. At least you've made some bucks before the new semester.

Federal Government of Nigeria ,through Debt Management Office issue Eurobonds or diaspora bond . Something like that.
But I don’t know all the details.

It’s the DMO that issue treasury bills too. Just to clear your doubts a bit .

Thank you. Gone to the website and don't even know where to start from. All I see is Eurobonds closing prices and yields, I'll have to take time and go through the site.

Bro I want to apply for the Erasmus mundus Program. Please what's your advice?
While you wait for his advice, let me give you my piece. Go ahead and apply if you have good grades and good letter of motivation. Having a relevant work experience will give you an edge. Then pray that scholarship follows the admission because the money is killing. Remember Erasmus is open worldwide with a lot of applicants, very competitive. Success.

Hi guys. Can someone that studied food technology go for M.Sc Microbiology or Biochemistry in Germany
Food technology is not really in the life/natural sciences while mic/bic are in natural/life sciences. Your courses in your transcript might not cut it for mic/bic, universities consider your previous courses before offering admission.

Interview Transcript.
Questions I was asked
Do you speak German?

What course and why?

What School and semester?

Have you been to Germany?

When and how long?

Why Germany?

Why TU Berlin?

Why not Nigeria ,US or UK? She also asked of other countries I knew where my course was being taught.

Facts about Germany?( Note that follow up questions will be asked based on what you say)

What political party does Angela Merkel belong to?

Name the countries bordering Germany?

Capital of Belgium and Denmark?

What are your plans after study?

What was your bachelor thesis?

Then she collected my prepaid envelope and WAEC card and that was the end.

Visa fee was 26500 always take extra because it changes based on exchange rate of the day.

Things to note-

Come early.

Kindly follow your checklist make sure you have all documents and photocopies as stated.

Bring extra passport photo as I was asked for one extra besides the two I put on my form.

I was asked for my primary school certificate but I told him I did not have it, then he said OK put your secondary school certificate and university cert n transcript.

I came with my old intl passport as biographical document but I didn’t put it. He asked for just baptismal card, library card, vaccination card and old school ID card . I told him I had none and he said OK and asked me to arrange the next document.

Listen to Mr P and avoid asking him questions. Everything you need is written on your checklist. He will direct you on how to arrange your documents. But it helps if you arrange it according to the checklist in 3 batches, so it’s easy for you to reach when he is directing you.

Do not carry bags there you won’t be allowed in with it. Just put all you need in a folder , bring along an extra clear folder. Because he would use it to put your arranged document prior to going into the consulate.

Be Calm and confident. Don’t fabricate, just say what you know and are sure of.

Smile and be cheerful.

Prepare well and I pray God crowns all our effort with success.

Thanks and Success.

Nddc scholarship can be frustrating . You have have other plans while this would be back up plan...
The last time I tried nddc was during undergraduate, no more. I am sure you meant Plan B, it should actually be plan Z.

You should have said NDDC from the start na.
1. I hope they conclude the process quickly cos time is of the essence
2. No guarantor
3. Saw an apology to last year's successful applicants bla bla bla. Zero reliability. Too sad....It's fine to apply but I hope you know they cannot be relied on.

Good evening guys

I just noticed that the German embassy guys just updated the 'Checklist for Students and Language Course Visa' document. The updated date (July, 2018) is also clearly stated on top of the checklist, no much difference with the former though, but the most outstanding difference there is that motivation letter is boldly stated HANDWRITTEN. So i guess typewritten motivation letter will no longer be accepted.

Be informed guys!

U can confirm it via thier site

Compounding is an automated process and is dependent on the amount of interest accrued.
So therefore, by waiting for a specific period to top up, you will be shortchanging yourself because every kobo of interest earned will be added to the next cycle of compounding , thus THE EARLIER YOU CAN TOP UP, THE BETTER.
This is explicit. Thanks
Investment / Re: Mutual Funds by RalphVwede(m): 7:57pm On Jul 02, 2018
Is there any particular period advisable to do a top up in order to get increased interest?

For instance, maybe exactly a month or 3 months or 6 months from time of initial investment.
Investment / Re: Mutual Funds by RalphVwede(m): 9:45am On Jul 02, 2018
eezeribe:

There are some methods :

(1)You can know by logging into your account, via the website (not the app).
Then check your subscription column, if you only have new subscription or top up subscription(s) under the column, it means your interests are not compounding.
But if part of your daily interests are added under your subscription column(with specific dates), it means you are on compounding.

(2)check your net inflow, if the amount you see is only the amount you used to open the mutual fund or the total of all your top ups plus initial capital, it means you are not on compounding.
But if your net inflow is higher than your initial capital plus all your top ups, it means you are on compounding.

If after all you discover you are not on compounding or this method doesn't seem clear to you, just apply for a dividend mandate modification via email or phone, and request for your interests to be reinvested.

Thank you very much. It has been on compounding mode. grin
Investment / Re: Mutual Funds by RalphVwede(m): 3:24pm On Jul 01, 2018
eezeribe:

Compounding occurs quarterly, not daily,so therefore interest earned today doesn't form part of tomorrow's capital, however, interests earned in the course of three months (a quarter) would form part of the the capital for the next quarter if and only if (IFF) the fund owner indicated in his account opening clause that interests accrued should be automatically reinvested in funds.
I opened an account earlier at stanbic and cannot remember whether I indicated interests should be reinvested or not, how can I know as this stage?

For those who want to use form A to fund their account, this is my experience on how I did mine.

First, I went to first Bank head office in marina by 10am on the 21/06/18 with all my required documents:
Fintiba make the transfer
Admission letter
Official living cost breakdown from my school
Bsc certificate copy
Passport data page copy
After much talk, the lady insist that i cannot use the form A as I am not sending it to the schools account. I saw this coming base on other people’s previous post, so I quickly transfer my fund to my Stanbic account as I don’t have time to waste.

After, I went to Stanbic IBTC head office close to the embassy by 12:30pm. Though they said form A is possible but the rate the banker gave me was way higher than the black market rate as of that day 429.50 euro meanwhile black market was 420 euro and charges of about #34k naira .I wasn’t convinced, so I transfer my fund again to my Zenith bank account.

Then, I arrived Zenith head office in V.I by 2pm same day. After enquiry, they said its possible that a student going to Germany even did it last week,so I became relaxed finally after the whole stress and disappointment. I filled the form with my account fully funded. I was charged a total of #10,250 Naira and the rate they used was 421.13 euro x 8829 and I got my Fintiba Confirmation exactly 5 working days from the day of transaction 27/06/18.

P.S.
When I went to Zenith head office in Ajose Adeogun v.i, they directed me to their Trade Services Department in
Zion/ Zenion building plot 2
3 floor in the same street about 6 buildings away from their head office.
I hope this helps as I did my best to break everything down. Also, this is a way of me giving back as I have benefited a lot from reading part 3 up to the current page.

Thanks for this. Please did Zenith require the official breakdown from your school eventually?

At this moment I was still not settled, thinking about my passport, how she would react and feeling I ve disqualified myself by my own act of ignorance.

VO: why this course

Told her it was very much related to my undergraduate studies and that it provides a platform for advancement in the fields of AIDS and Cancer.

VO: Why german

I was lost at this moment cos I was really bothered.........
Could not concentrate
I jst had to tell her " Germany has the merits for developing important theories, treatments, technologies and structures that ve led to the Improvements in human lifes. I completely forgot about quality education that comes at a negligible cost. Evrytin for my head don subline.

VO: why not Nigeria?

Me: The course is not available in Nigeria. ( mind you, I never expected this question)

VO: Tell me facts about germany

I said about 8 and stopped, then she asked "is that all?"

I said yes ma, She smiled and was laffing started speaking german with other 2 ladies inside the next office. The other ladies started laffing too. For my mind, na me them dey laff so.. Na die I dey be this ooo

Then she gave me back my passport, printed and gave me visa app receipt, then said, we ll contact u through ur email.

Weeks past and I was expectant. compelled into fasting and praying, I could only wish for a positive outcome. I stopped sniping girls, inshort. Admiring a girl became a taboo for me.

I noticed ppl who had their interviews in May got their AM 3-4 days befor the corresponding date of June. So on 15th, I was so restless, put my data on and off, refreshing my gmail. Oboy!! Nothing show ooo.

Yesterday, I decided to contact the alien office in Bonn but got an email stating they dont ve my data in their database and I should contact the one in Rhein-sieg-kreis which I did.

Jst around 9:40am today, something crawled into my email aggressively asking for my passport, 6 months health insurance and travel date. It was the long awaited AM.

In the end, God be Praised!!!

First of all, I want to say a very big thank you to Baba God, He alone could ve done this for me.

My profound appreciation goes to : honourableseyi, dailydollar, shasha, kenthumphz, nevilbot, doppergangel10, many others whose name/monika might ve skipped me and everyone in this thread... Thankz
And to those still expecting their am, it will all end in Praises... Amen.
Congratulations Osas.

Today was a restful Sunday. I woke up in the afternoon grin and prepared prepared a spicy Nigerian jollof rice.

I attend an evening German church. Because it has been a while I cycled long distance and my thighs hurt, I decided to cycle to and fro (I learnt how to ride a bicycle here in Germany with an hour, though I had paid my dues by having few bruises cheesy)

We had the normal service and some people were appointed as the church elders.

After service, we proceeded downstairs to the Bistro (kitchen) -to have some Persian foods and watch the remaining part of Germany's match. Thankfully they lose just like Nigeria grin.

Anytime I cycle, I often notice I get this weird look from people but who cares, I know they can hit me except they want to make me rich.

On getting home, something bad has happened.

My keys are no where to be found. I searched my pockets and I couldn't find it. This automatically means I either have to find the keys or pay about 200 euros I think to a have my house keeper replace it for me.

I was so devastated because I have been seeing signs I was going to lose those keys today.
As I was about going upstairs to my friend's room to say what happened and be pitied, there after call my pastor to ask if the keys where found in church, because I couldn't have accessed the bicycle I took to church without the keys and that was the last moment I remembered having it in my possession, he called me and asked if I was searching for my keys.

Thank God it was found by him and he offered to drive down to somewhere close to me, where we met and got the keys.

Was so excited I said a lot of euros and stress cheesy cheesy
Yh, Germany didn't win their game just like 9ja but they played far better than we did. See full attack second half. You should keep your keys better now.
