debby516: Thought about this recently. I benefited from this thread 101% forjourney and you can't see any info on their previous trips, yet they are back here for more/latest info. I am only pleading that we help each other, no info is too small, most especially visa and POE transcripts. Well said.... Its up to us to keep this thread alive.. |

podada: Hello NLers, Please is there a payment plan for intending parents in the US...I just got a set back on funds invested and DW should be due in November. we should be able to pay down before end of January. if there is? how do I go by it or access it? This is a tricky one. Yes there exists payment plan if you run into emergencies that leads to excess bills but payment plan on your base fee i dont know. You can also call your hospital to find out. Why not look for othr hospitals that would well suit your budget?. Which State do you plan to go to deliver? |

msbtw: Hello everyone, I am new on nairaland. I am a first time. I will be using Northside Hospital. Please mamas presently in Atlanta or going to Atlanta, help recommend affordable doctor and housing. Thank you very much. Easy way out just type "birth in Atlanta" or "Northside hospital" in the search box above and you would see invaluable info. Since you have hospital already... just go to through website and search doctors then call them. Another option is to wait till you get to Atlanta and go as soon as possible to the hospital and get a doctor. With all these start reading tbis tread and get set for your POE. |

Maggiespecial: haaa, thank u. Pls hope houston is not far from long island because i dnt plan for hotel accomodation? Also kindly give me d details of the hospital u're goin to use in houston n price. Thank u. Houston is in Texas about 4 hours flight from Long Island NY. So if you plan to go to Texas you would need to factor in accomodation but remember even with Aaccomodation Texas will be cheaper for yoy because someone said Long Island is about 19k for VD. Yes you have family in long Island NY but it would be good if you are open to new option and you would be surprised how much you will end up saving. Up to you though |

cutieb: Hello house! I have shared visa and Poe experience so it's time to share my birthing experience. I stayed in Michigan till a week to my EDD before I left for Chicago I had my LO on Wednesday 19th of July in Chicago. A day after delivery my LO's birth certificate was ready but cldnt get it till after I was discharged (I fast tracked it).I was discharged on Friday evening..went to vital records to get the BC. Had an appointment with the paediatrician On Tuesday after I was discharged and LO was certified okay...I got a fit to fly for my LO from the paediatrician cos I was gonna travel to NY and domestic airlines need certification for infants less than 14days to fly. Went back to Michigan on weds.
Called Qatar airways Customer Care to get my LO ticket and was charged $150.(note that I got my ticket from wakanow but booked LO directly) Hubby mailed notarized form thru FedEx (I was very disappointed in their service) after several calls to them I eventually got the package on Saturday after which I left for the airport to board plane to NY.
On Monday I went to NY passport office very early as walk in and I met a very long queue...eventually after 5hrs I made it in and my passport was processed for $165 I waited to collect it...left there around 9pm. On Tuesday I sent a mail for visa on on arrival to the immigration and got a reply after 5 hrs.. On Wednesday, Got to the airport checked in all my over weight luggage (3 big luggages 2 for me and 1 for baby) no extra charges the guy was too nice, checked in baby stroller and car seat and my supposed overweight hand luggage..lol... Had 9 hrs layover at Doha was lodged in a hotel...slept for 3hrs before we were taken back to the airport..got to naija on Friday morn..got my luggage and went to the visa on arrival section...paid $200 and I was given change of $10 lol... I left NY exactly 14 days(2weeks) after LO arrival. We are doing great...just adapting to this no light country again..lol.. Thanks everyone who helped out in this journey.. o appreciate you all.. God bless Congrats you had this all well planned out. Correct cutieb. WHich hospital and doc did you use in Chicago? |

Now the full gist.
Landed @ JFK Terminal 7 around 8:45am. The airport was very less busy. Just our flight in the terminal.
And about 20-30 minutes it was out turn
CBP: Why are you here?( Was flipping throughy passport looking for visas) Me: Vacation
CBP : Are you staying with anyone? Me : No we got a place to stay.
CBP: put your fingers on the machine and took my photograhp too and GBAM the Big Stamp
Next he tooK Wifey's passport checked for VISA and also looked to see if its really her. Did her bio metric and GBAM the CBP: What food item do you have ME: Its Sausage ... Gala to be precise. Do you know Gala i asked him.
And off we went to get our bags and that took 1 minute. Next was the second CBP section. They took the form and asked us to see the Agric guys.
They asked what we had again and we told them which bags had the Gala. they scanned all bags and after which they askwd us to open. They tool the Gala out and the guy saw chewing stick looked at it oooooo and gave it back.
and Off we went. Welcome to America.
There was this Lady CBP elderly woman she just dey send people go secondary my mind cut small make i not lie. Na wife just dey ginger me sef.
Nicr experience the Entire journey. though long but nice. Lagos to Doha to JFK.
Hammaf Int Airport is a real beauty but JFK aint soo beautiful but massssivveeee. |

REJOICE01: Good evening house. Please I would like to know which of these 2 airlines (ethiad and turkish) is better to use. My sister will be going to new York next week. I learnt there will be a screening at Abu dhabi using Ethiad, I don't know if it would be d same with turkish. Kindly advice on which to use and also taking poe into consideration. Thanks. Both airlines are great. Etihad has screning at Abu Dhabi though but u have nothing to worry about if you have nothing to hide. so choice will be hers to make and maybe the cheapest too. |

Ussyberry: Hello All!
This is a truly wonderful thread, please keep up the good work!
I have two questions
1) on the customs declaration form (or while using the Automatic passport control kiosk) they ask your address while in the US. Thing is next week I have booked a hotel in New York just for the night I land, then I have 3 nights in another hotel in the Washington area, it's after these two bookings that I will go to Oklahoma and spent over a week until I fly back to New York for my return flight to naija.
Question is , what address should I use. The first hotel or the second or my cousins address in Oklahoma which is my final ultimate destination?
2) also on the form they ask what countries you have visited during this particular trip. I'm transiting through Cairo as per Egypt air. In that slot should I just say non or write Egypt . The transit layover is overnight.
Please advise
Thank you all Usually i believe your first place of contact would be best appropriate or the place you would be staying the longest number of days 2. To visit a country you need to have your passport stamped or given entry permit actually enter the country. if your stop over involves leaving the airport and sleeping in an hotel (which would require a transit visa) then Yoy can fill Egypt. but if your transit is just in the airport then no need to fill Egypt. |

Lrmush: Trying to book, pls from experience, what airline is better? Btw turkish and qatar? Both Airlines are fantastic enough, so its gonna be about your choice in the long run for me and maybe fare. Just ensure you check out the stop over duration while booking your flight. Check the flights with shortest stop overs. |

vemmawealth: Thank you again.
Please tell me why we should have a very hard time explaining it to cbp officer and what to do or say to not have that hard time. Yes we are travelling with 2 kids 8 and 6.
Meanwhile, I checked online and it seem it takes 12 hour thereabout to get to Orlando by bus from Washington DC.
Thanks Permit me to ask, are you sure about this 12 hours from Washington to Orlando, Florida by bus!!!. Please check your info again. I strongly believe a flight would be better and more cost effective. Particularly on your inbound journey to Orlando. After spending multiples hours in the air plus stop over, i bet you you would not want to be in a coach or bus for that many hours plus the young kids with you. hmmmm On your return journey say to New York back to Nigeai you can plan to go via bus and plan it better by breaking it into multiple cities and sleeping in B&Bs if needed than taking the journey at once. That way you would really enjoy seeing the states and driving though. I hope this helps. Cheers |
