Portugal scored 9 goals at Euro 2016, Ronaldo had 3 goals and 3 assists; thats 6 goals out of 9. so tell me, who's their best player?? Nani had the same stats and had more knock out goals. He was also present for the final |

Swissh: When he had a good side he destroyed every competition and finished as top scorer. He won every copa America he started in and finished top scorer including the World Cup. When I see Suarez scoring 59goals at barca I am very certain he would have hit 70. But part of the reason Suarez scored that number of goals is that he had a passer like Messi in his team... At least Ronaldo played in Barca but didn't score as much as Messi |

Leyqute: I think DeLima is the better goal scorer while Messi is a better passer of the ball.
Both players are great dribblers but I’ll pick DeLima over Messi here. For one, a good number of times DeLima squares up against like 2,3 or 4 defenders alone with no teammates to distract them. That’s like a suicide mission in those days.
Most of Messi’s dribbles are done with his teammates moving into dangerous positions. This helps distract the opposition. Plus tackles aren’t flying everywhere.
This doesn’t take anything from Messi though. He’s a fantastic dribbler and a superior team player to R9. The other guy is massive as well. Is Ronaldo really a better scorer of the ball than Messi? Messi scored 73 goals in a season and did not play exclusively as a No 9... If he played as a poacher, the stats will be crazy And when it comes to dribbling, Messi is still better... I've asked before and am asking again... Name a Ronaldo goal where he dribbled from the halfway line against a team sitting deep to score... I can name like 8 from memory |

It's scary to think the kind of havoc and numbers Ronaldo will wreck with those Barca teams. He was banging in goals as the no 9 and main striker for his team... Messi is not Argentina's striker... Higuain, Aguero play that position for them |

Neymar1095: I have said before let's put Messi in a club like Everton or Napoli where he is not surrendered with world class players and system all those rubbish about him scoring and assisting at high rate will quickly diminish. We have already seen his failures to replicate those performance at Argentina. It's easy to show your passing and dribbling ability when your team dominates 60 to 70 ball possession almost 90% of matches in a season. Messi is nothing but a Barca player. Messi is still the highest goal scorer and highest assist provider for Argentina so your point does not make sense... He's the only one in that team that has won the best player award in a tournament. Without him they would not qualify for the World Cup |

Ibime: I watched Ronaldo live at his peak in the 1990s. I did not miss a single match of his 1997/98 season.
Though I considered Ronaldo by far the best player of the 1990s, I can't lie to myself and compare him to Messi. Messi does almost twice what Ronaldo did with less space. I think the problem is most people fixate on his goals... They don't look at other areas of his game... IIf they did, they would understand that for a single player to combine all those aspects of the game seamlessly is nothing short of genius. Hazard has a cult following here because of his ability to take on players Augero is an epl legend because of his scoring prowess De Bruyne is considered one of the best in the world mainly because of his passing ability Then for one person to combine all that and even do each of them more effectively is otherworldly |

hopefulLandlord: Hey brother, been a long ass time Ronaldo Delima wasn't known in a any way as a diver and he also knew how to skip over legs of defenders, defenders of the 90s, check out the kinds of tackles he faced against Lazio when Nesta was there for examples. Serie A at the time was known for not only stout defending but brutal tackles too, tackles that would earn a red card to someone who does it to Messi these days would probably be given as just a free kick then while there might be some truth to it Ronaldo having height did not serve as an impediment to him in tight spaces during his prime, he could both dribble you using magical skills at such places or nutmeg you or use stopovers to throw you off balance and then go past you. Talent is what I'm arguing but I would find it shocking if you think Messi dealt with as much problems with injuries as much as Ronaldo did. who needs 2 blocks of four when a single defender is relishing the prospect of ending your ankle with a well executed tackle and a ref is ready to signal play on? also Italian league's defending at the time was well organised. Italian league teams defend well in numbers but also put in brutal tackles when they deem it fit Yeah, very long time. Was thinking you had left Nairaland for good Anyways, remember Ronaldo was basically a 9, so he generally dribbles from an advanced position... Sometimes Messi picks the ball in midfield and dribbles straight into the box and scores... I've watched a lot of Ronaldo's goals and I've never seen him score a goal like the one Messi scored against Getafe or Madrid in the ucl semifinals. |

hopefulLandlord: Messi would be kicked about like a rag doll lol. you think Messi would be allowed by defenders to dribble then like he does now? also referees were a lot more lenient with tackles and top players don't get the extra protection they get now. you're also naive if you think Ronaldo wasn't good in tight spaces just because he's known to pace past players. Not saying I agree with madrid5 but consider Ronaldo won the best player in the world at the age of 20, which remains the youngest ever player to win the award. maybe that was a fluke but he won the next one again at 21 (Messi was almost 23 when he won his first) spent a single season in Barcelona but set record for most goals scored in a single laliga season that single year. went to inter Milan (Italy was the best and hardest league in the world then) won best player in serie a in his first season. then a combination of injuries, rough tackles and thyroid problem made his career go downhill from there but even at that he came back from a long injury layoff to win the 2002 best player in the world award, a world cup and a world cup golden boot.
So Ronaldo may not have the longevity of Messi or C. Ronaldo but thinking the level of talent he had at the time is inferior to those can only be uttered by someone who doesn't know him or is simply biased If there's anything Messi knows how to do, it is how to evade tackles when dribbling. In fact where other players are diving for free kicks or penalties, Messi skips over the legs of defenders Also, you're not taking into account Messi's low center of gravity. Short people have greater balance so can dribble in tight spaces without being wrestled to the ground. And Messi also has injury problems as a teenager. In 2006, he had a great game against Chelsea destroying Del Horno before sustaining an injury that ruled him out of the campaign.... You are right that in the 90s, tackles were more brutal but modern defenses are better organized... Two blocks of four sitting deep is the most difficult thing to dribble through but Messi has scored solo goals against that kind of setup multiple times |

The sheer amount of solo goals he scored in his early years is crazy When it comes to dribbling the only person that can compete is perhaps maradona |
