Krayola, Ibime and Genuflect. You guys rock! Sometimes i just want to believe that Rapjunkie is K-16. I'm outty![/quote]Omo, u fit make am next time. . . . . Words of advice, reduce the amount of times the word 'niggaz' appears in your songs and quit with all the unnecessary shout outs if you want a track to be taken seriously by the RJC. Rapjunkie is the president of K16's official fan club. U suppose don sabi that one by now. |

SpiralEx: When I say that Vector is lyrically weak, I only need people who understand what it means for a verse to have poetic power to speak up. Let me explain a little. If you listen to Renegade by Jay-Z and Eminem (the two best rappers alive as voted by the rap world on vibe), you see what it means for a verse to carry a unified message that points in one direction. A Renegade is a defiant or more or less a rebel. All through the verse you could see how the two peeps used wordplay, rhythm and rhymes to convey strongly worded verses in a poetic but still hardcore-rap-ish (forgive my english) manner. Ever wondered why tupac is accalaimed to be the best rapper ever? Lyrical power that manifests in poetic verses that still convey the message in the manner a hard-core rapper would. Take a look at these lines from a few guys
Eminem (on Renegade) See I'm a poet to some, a regular modern day Shakespeare Jesus Christ the King of these Latter Day Saints here To shatter the picture in which of that as they paint me as a monger of hate and Satan a scatter-brained atheist But that ain't the case, see it's a matter of taste We as a people decide if Shady's as bad as they say he is . . . .
The message all through the verse is about a renegade who is hated and despised by the public even when he shouldn't. The strong poetic verses have 5 syllable rhymes (except for the 'matter of taste') which is just 4 verses.
Jay Z on (Renegade) Motherfuckers - say that I'm foolish I only talk about jewels (bling bling) Do you fools listen to music or do you just skim through it? See I'm influenced by the ghetto you ruined That same dude you gave nothin', I made somethin doin' what I do through and through and I give you the news - with a twist it's just his ghetto point-of-view The renegade; you been afraid I penetrate pop culture, bring 'em a lot closer to the block where they pop toasters, and they live with they moms Got dropped roasters, from botched robberies niggaz crotched over
MI. Area ft YQ
MI and YQ, As the flows fly you, realize i'm not on the same level of IQ, You feeling me in AJ City and Festac, Best act, you ever seen to bless tracks
The message of the song is that MI is showing how he has been able to penetrate the areas of Lagos and mainstream naija hip-hop to the grassroots (hence the name of the track 'Area') even with his seemingly sophisticated rap style. The verses portray the same message all through. Play the rest of the tracks and listen to the deeper meaning of the lines. You'll understand what I mean.
If you look carefully, you'll see that Vector has a very smooth speech pattern that makes his rap sound good. That does not make one a lyricist. Last time I checked, some lyricists are not musicians, they write and sell! Vector's musics is cool because of his pronunciations and the way he presents his flows, lyrically, its very weak. The same is the reason why it appears the message in one single track is all over the place - Not poetic one bit!
I put my life in, The bread dont cut - I put the knife in My left hand weak - I put the right in! - My fav line in Oleku! (Ice Prince version) The message from Ice Price is consistent in the entire verse and that message is perseverance.
Vector jumps from talking of a party to talking of Oyedepo and CU. Send him to the school of lyrics. Every rapper needs that. Singers use few lines in songs because they stretch, rappers need to be LYRICALLY STRONG to be able to stand the game. WOW!! What a croc of s*hit!!! what's renegade got to do with oleku by vector?. . . BUT seriously?. . . . dayum!!! |
