DesChyko: Lol.. I take it you don't read much novels. Smarting is also a verb. It's a reaction of a person or the skin to a sharp pain like a whip. When people say someone is 'smarting', does it mean they are talking about the skin? You need to be serious. We are looking at the context in which the word is being used. |

I know even educated people commit grammatical blunders sometimes but there are grammatical blunders that are just so outrageous and shameful at the same time, when they come right out of the mouths of supposed 'graduates' from tertiary institutions! If you have been guilty of the following as regard spoken English, then you have clearly moved from being a 'Half-baked' graduate to a 'Quarter-baked' graduate!!! 1) 'You are smarting'...I heard a guy at a plaza who claimed to be a graduate saying this! Gush! Being smart is very different from being fast or slick. By the way, there's no verb such as 'smarting' in English language which means the same thing as what this young man was trying to say! 2) 'You are showing yourself'...just like the one above, how can someone be 'showing' himself/herself? So human being don turn movie? Na wa o! 3) 'Oya, come and go'...two opposite verbs. You are telling the person to come and at the same time, to go! Again, what's the meaning of 'Oya'? 4) 'My body is scratching me'...your body can only itch you and not scratch. You scratch when you use your fingers to stroke a surface roughly! Lol! 5) 'My phone is 'more' better than yours...this sentence can surely make you appear a 'quarter-bakie' You can't use two comparative adjectives in a sentence! We have good, better, best. When you compare two things, the middle one which is 'better' should be used so there's no need for 'more' which is also a comparative adjective but goes with 'than'. As in 'more than' 6) 'Did she went to the market'?...as absurd as this sentence is, I have seen many 'graduates' saying it! Two verbs with past tense form in the same sentence? 7) 'Ola, something is smelling. Can you hear it...ehen!!! 'HEAR'? English!!! 8. 'People has' or 'she have'...'has' is a singular auxiliary verb that goes with a singular subject while 'have' is a plural auxiliary verb that goes with a plural subject. 9) 'They takes people for granted'...this one is common on NL. A plural subject does not go with a singular verb and vice versa. 'Take' is plural and 'takes' is singular which goes with a singular subject as well. Take note of 'They' being a plural subject. 10) 'I am looking for Funmilayo'...you can't be looking for someone. Instead, say 'I am asking of Funmilayo'. You can only look for what is lost! It happens regularly when people go to check on others. We can only start looking for Funmilayo if she is declared missing! I hope these help! We are all learning. It is only a foolish man that takes offence when he is corrected! Good day!!! You can add yours! |

sledjama: When we voted Buhari and Osinbajo, I assumed Nigeria will work again.
What measures have been put in place so far to curtail the excesses of the military. if scapegoats are not made out of these guys, they will not change.
Here in lagos, they jump traffic thereby worsening an already bad traffic situation, if you are not quick to realise they are behind you, you risk being harrassed.
where are all the sweet promises made by osinbajo that i personally shared on my timeline are they all lies? Now, why are you lamenting publicly when you were part of the gang that voted for them? Take your lamentation to your bedroom!!! Nobody gives a hoot! You must eat the cake you baked! |

I don't just know why Nigerian ladies are brought up with the belief that their success revolves around the money of a man.. Smh Thanks man! I appreciate |

ourchoice: Unfortunately, what many Nigerian ladies don't know is that it is easy for them to make clean money than the guys.
The major problem Nigerian ladies have is that while growing up, they develop high financial expectation from men and therefore they accept and reject guys asking them out based on how fat their pocket is, too bad
Nollywood is another thing that also spoilt our Nigerian ladies; Genevieve Nnaji, Tonto Dikeh and Mercy Johnson will just be broke in a movie, and only spend their time making up and one Rich Emeka Ike, Ramsey Noah or Jim Iyke will come and buy her a car and marry her with a talk-of-the-town wedding, so as Nigerian ladies who spend 40% of their time watching these useless movies watch the movies, they start to believe that that's how an ideal relationship should be.
Our TV stations, Radio stations, movie producers really need to start creating movies and TV series to correct this ill-mentality.
Nigerian ladies need to realize that the global economy has become harsher than before, so they need to stop being too-dependent on their men, and ladies need to have a means of earning income before they get married. Thanks for ur intelligent observation. |

Tosinayoko: A man that can not provide for his family is worse than an infidel.... if you are broke you have nothing to do around women. Clap for urself! So u think the Bible was refering to boyfriend/girlfriend relationship? It seems you didn't read the post properly before commenting. The Bible, as you have quoted is refering to married man and his wife...that's a family setting. The Bible never said that it is ur duty to cater for your girlfriend's financial needs! wristbangle: Rapmoney, excellent write up.
The rate of hungry and lazy girls in the society is a serious call for concern. Broke ladies are the ones who always complain that guys who refuse to spend on them are stingy and extremely broke. Normally something their parents cannot afford must be something their boyfriend can do. Ur papa no fit buy Iphone6 for u, u dey inflict pains on the innocent guy make him satisfy ur financial urge. Yeye dey smell. I dey see u, my guy! |
