In line with the promise of Governor Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State that His Administration will be guided by rule of law, transparency and participatory governance, the 1st Open Budget Stake-holders forum of this Administration will take place today Thursday 22ndAugust, 2019 at Ahajioku Centre, New Owerri. According to Hon. Commissioner Ministry of Budget & Economic Planning Hon. Reginald Ibebuzor in a statement said that the 2020 fiscal year Budget has commenced with release of Call Circular on 1st July 2019 to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the State which was followed by Budget briefing with Directors of Accounts and Planning in MDAs and that of State Budget committee meeting comprising the Head of Service, Accountant-General of the State, State Auditor-General, The Ag. Permanent Secretary, the Director of Budget and Director Macro Economic Planning of the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning. The Statement further stated that the Open Budget Stakeholders Forum is being packaged by the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning and Hope Givers Initiative, an NGO that is committed to Open Budget System through voice of the people programme (V2P) and the essence is to practicalise the campaign promises of His Excellency Governor Ihedioha to run a oarticipatory Governance. The statement equally revealed that Citizens of the State will make input into 2020 Budget of the State at the forum which is anchored on Rebuild Imo project as participants are drawn from Government side and Citizens at LGAs and Community levels. While Governor Ihedioha will lead His Cabinet, the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Collins Chiji will lead Imo Law makers and Local Government Interim Management Committee Chairmen are expected to lead 4 – man team from their respective LGAs made of one president General, a youth leader, a Special Citizen and 2019 August meeting women coordinator. Meanwhile, 3 LGAs namely Owerri Municipal, Orlu and Okigwe had been selected as pilot scheme LGAs that will send representatives from Community levels to undertake the community charter demand Budgeting. Ag. Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Budget Rev. Reginald Udeh and the Executive Director Hope Givers Initiative Mrs. Onyeka Udegbulam all corroborated the Stakeholders Forum as worthwhile programmes, asserting that all is set for a successful event. The statement therefore enjoined Ndi Imo to appreciate Governor Ihedioha for His commitment towards giving the people of the state a Budget that is going to be Citizens driven to achieving Rebuild Imo project. Tunji Adedeji The Imo State Government on Wednesday made good its promise to fully revive the rubber estate at Obitti Community in Ohaji Local Government Area of the state when the committee on Imo Rubber Estates Limited parleyed with landlords and stakeholder’s of the largest rubber estate in the state. Dr. Ray Opara, Chairman of the committee who led Imo Commissioner of police (CP) his team and other members of the committee to the host communities where hostilities by youths had stalled production activities for years before the intervention of the rubber committee instituted by Imo State Governor Emeka Ihedioha. Speaking during the visit, Dr. Opara said the committee was on assignment to resuscitate, investigate the environmental and human damage caused by past administration and the operations of the aggrieved youths and landlords who frowned against neglect by past administration. He said,” Our governor Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha has given us the mandate to resolve the long protracted problems in the rubber plantation. The governor brought us together to ensure this investment is resuscitated to the benefit of Obiti people.” The Chairman who seized the platform to solicited corporation and support of the people assured them that Imo Government will revalidate staff list and add more staffers. He averred that Gov Ihedioha has a different approach to governance, charging stakeholders and youths to reason among themselves and present the committee with names of their children ready to work for possible employment. According to him, “Give us your utmost corporation today and we will revalidate the staff list and ensure your children are carried along in the sphere of things in the rubber plantation. Whatever the problem is that has kept that place moribund, will be resolved. We are aware of the agreement you have had before with past government but ours will be different and you will benefit first” Opara who raised eyebrows over the rate at which rubber trees were being cut down by the people enjoined them to desist from such act because the establishment was for their interest. The Chairman who was so impressed with the community overwhelming reception during the visit out of his personal purse offered a monetary award in form of scholarships worth N400 thousand to secondary school pupils whose parents are land owners in Obiti community. He said,” through my foundation, Chibuzor Foundation, the scholarship will be given to pupils who performed excellently particularly those who took first position from JSS1-SSS3 in the coming examination. The Traditional Ruler of Obiti community, HRH Rze Emmanuel Odunze, in his welcome address commended Governor Ihedioha for remembering his community and for deeming it fit to resuscitate a company that had gone moribund for several years. Golden Guinea Breweries set to re-enter beer market July 04, 2018 Golden Guinea Breweries has announced it would make its re-entry into the nation’s beer market next month. According to a report by BusinessDay, the Umuahia-based brewer is nearing the completion of a major overhaul and upgrade of its production facilities following a fire outbreak in 2003 that led to the closure of the brewing company. The company said its new equipment has an installed capacity of 48,000 bottles per hour, which represents 1.15 million bottles per day, twice the installed capacity of the old equipment which produced 24,000 bottles per hour and more than double what its competitors at Nigerian Breweries’ Ama, Enugu plant and International Breweries Onitsha brewery produces. Pan Marine investments Limited, the core investor in Golden Guinea Breweries Plc said the company’s share trade at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) will resume in the near future once its operations gets off the ground. The company’s minders revealed that the firm’s products will not be limited to the Eastern states, but across the country. “Our distribution is not going to focus only on the Eastern States but will be distributing our drinks across Nigeria. We must ensure our drinks are in Lagos and other states in the West, North and Southern Nigeria, while also consolidating our premier position in the East,” a representative of Pan Marine Investments Limited said. In terms of the ongoing retooling of the company’s facilities, the core investor said it has installed new fermenting equipment, Bright Beer tank (BBT) units, new boilers, C02 equipment, mash filter units, grain handling equipment, weighing scale, hammer mill, roller mill, polisher receiving scale and silos. The result is that from distribution networks to support services, there is new lease of life. Everyone from suppliers to contractors, engineers, plumbers, accountants and even food sellers feel the good times are back. “If you know Umuahia, you will understand what I am telling you. Golden Guinea is not just a company; it is the pride of the people of Umuahia, nay Abia State. It has been closed down for about 13 years and we are very happy that in a very short while, it will resume production,” said a commercial driver named Obi to a BusinessDay reporter. “We can’t wait to drink ‘Oyoyo mmi’ which is an Igbo name the beer brand is known for”. Golden Guinea Breweries first commenced business in 1963, following the independence of Nigeria. At the time, it was called Independence Breweries Limited. It had an initial installed capacity of 1 million gallons. The company introduced Eagle Stout in 1967 but was interrupted by the breakout of the Nigerian civil War between 1967 and 1970. The company changed its name in 1971 to Golden Guinea Breweries following the end of the civil war. In 1975, it underwent a major retooling, adding extensions. The company’s products also expanded to include Golden Guinea Lager, Bergedorf Premium Lager and Bergedorf Malta, all under licensing from Holsten Brauerei AG of Hamburg, Germany. Golden Guinea Breweries suffered a fire outbreak in 2003 leading to a closure of the plant. Then we would proceed to do the detailed engineering design for the expanded facility and some other associated studies. “We would work jointly with the Chinese to obtain the regulatory approval for the proposed capacity. MADUMERE’S IMPEACHMENT; IMO LAWMAKERS DARE JUDICIARY, IGNORE COURT RULING *Orders Clerk To Issue Notice To Dep Gov Through Publication Posted by admin on Jul 16th, 2018. By Onyinyechi Amakaulo In a bid to properly execute their plans, the Rt Hon Acho Ihim led Members of the Imo State House of Assembly surprisingly returned to the chambers for what they tagged Special Sitting, on Monday. Our correspondent who was at the complex and monitored proceedings during the emergency Plenary Session discovered that the lawmakers not only ignored the court order against their continued execution of the Impeachment of the Deputy Governor, but also kept mute about the ruling of the Abuja High Court. It would be recalled that angered by what is going on in the Assembly complex where five lawmakers have been suspended and there is a serious push to remove the Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, a citizen of the state went to court in Abuja to challenge the action of the lawmakers. The action of the lawmakers was on the move until an Abuja High Court intervened and acted on a Motion ex-parte filed on 03/07/2018 by one Stanley Okwara seeking an Order of the Court restraining the Speaker, and the Chief Judge from initiating and exercising any action with a view to removing the governor or the Deputy Governor of Imo State without the suspended four lawmakers. Using 16 paragraphs affidavit to support his claims, the trial judge who said that while he is cautioned not to take orders sought in the motion ex-parte so as not to “frustrate the smooth running of the Imo State House of Assembly or restraining the Honourable Chief Judge of Imo State from exercising his constitutional duties” the prayers were granted and applicant to serve the processes in the suit 1st to 6th (including the Speaker and Chief Judge) through substituted means. The judge also ruled that parties maintain the Status Quo pending the hearing of the Motion on Notice so as not to destroy the res in the motion of notice. The case was adjourned to November 27, 2018 for Hearing. Trumpeta noticed on the floor of the House that the Majority Leader, Hon Lugard Osuji representing Owerri Municipal moved a motion citing Section 188 /7of the Nigeria Constitution as amended stating the process to carry out impeachment processes. The House further states that the constitution will help them do the needful. The Speaker further instructed the Clerk of the House to do a newspaper publications both in state and national levels as well as radio announcements and pest copy of the letter in the office of the Deputy Governor to avoid not complying with the authority of the House. Speaker lhim also informed the Chief Judge of the State to carry out his investigation based on the committee set up early. The house do adjourned to 28th of July 2018. This newspaper noticed that while proceedings were on, on mention was made about the Court Case. Meanwhile, in a statement, a group has decried the action of the House. The statement reads; “The Imo State All Progressives Congress (APC) Stakeholders Forum wishes to thank the good people of Imo state for their resilience and steadfastness in standing up to the latest of Governor Rochas Okorocha’s perfidy against our collective integrity. The Forum salutes every well meaning citizen of the state who, through one medium or the other, has stood behind it in the fight against the governor’s plan to turn the state into a jungle of irrationality and brigandage, the latest of which is the planned impeachment of the deputy governor of the state, His Excellency, Prince Eze Madumere. “The Forum wishes to assure the good people of the state that it will not relent in its efforts at ensuring that Governor Okorocha does not succeed in his grand plan to remain in office after serving his constitutionally permissible eight years, by imposing a member of his family, Mr. Uche Nwosu, on the state as the next governor. “As the peace loving and law-abiding people of the state must have learnt, a court of competent jurisdiction has halted the planned impeachment of Prince Eze Madumere, pending the outcome of a motion on notice by a concerned citizen of the state; and that the hearing of the motion has been fixed for November 28, 2018. The court, an Abuja federal high court, also gave an order that the status quo remains pending the determination of the case. “The Forum, however, has it on good authority that His Excellency, Governor Rochas Okorocha has directed the leadership of the Imo State House of Assembly to ignore the court order and proceed with the impeachment process. 10,000 Applications Flood Innoson Motors Job Recruitment Exercise in 24 hours by MIKE OCHONMA March 28, 2018 | 12:55 am An estimated 10,000 applications was received less than 24 hours by Innoson Vehicle Manufacturers (IVM) following an announcement by the local assembler to employ 3000 Nigerians by the end of the year. The astronomical surge in the number of applications received by the local auto maker forced the management to abruptly shut down the job recruitment exercise official website which was supposed to be open to prospective job seekers till April 6, 2018. Innoson had in a statement on its official Twitter handle last Monday said the board of directors of Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing Company Limited approved the recruitment exercise as it plans the expansion of its factory in Nnewi, the second largest city in Anambra state. Cornel Osigwe, Head Corporate Communications, Innoson group, said during a telephone chat with BusinessDay on Tuesday disclosed that that the first batch of new intake will see the employment of 1007 workers in April 2018. The company listed positions needed as follows welding engineers, automotive painters, plasterers and auto electricians. Other job vacancies exist for mechanical engineers, administration, account and public relations and quality control officers including marketing executives. According to the image maker of Innoson group, in order to contribute towards the success of Nigeria’s automotive industrial development agenda, the company has also acquired 100,000 square meters of land on the outskirts of Owerri, the Imo State capital near the airport. He stated that as part of it expansion drive which will facilitate the creation of thousands of skilled and unskilled jobs in the state and its environs, the Innoson auto assembly plant in Owerri will have the capacity to assemble 60,000 vehicles a year. In an email sent to our reporter on Tuesday, Luqman Mamudu, retired director in charge of policy and planning said that the automotive policy was designed to anticipate such expansion and a program for support is inbuilt in the relationship between NADDC and BOI. According to him, “There is no better evidence than this that the Nigerian automotive program is working. Innoson has enjoyed considerable patronage as it continuously improves on quality. This employment is one of the automotive program objectives. The good thing is that innoson operates at the CKD level. Others plants are poised to follow. The industry will experience upsurge in demand by the time the automotive credit purchase scheme is realized.’’ Recall that early this year, the Nigerian Army went into partnership with IVM to conceptualize, design, modify and produce armoured fighting vehicles and other military hardware. At a meeting between Tukur Buratai, the chief of army staff, and Innocent Chukwuma, chairman and chief executive of Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company Limited, the army chief said that the essence of the meeting was to further formalize the business relationship between the Nigerian Army and IVM. The Army acquired over 70 more variants of the Innoson vehicles which were deployed in the North East for Operation Lafiya Dole. Other specific areas of partnership between the Nigerian Army and the company include; immediate supply 100 vehicles, supply of appropriate gears, engines and chassis required for immediate modifications and repairs of armoured fighting vehicles in the North East Theatre of Operations.
