The car was purchased on June 15/07 and had an accident 28 days later; another accident 4 months later. Note that the owner went on to use it for 14 more months before disposing of it. If you're superstitious you probably don't want to buy this car but if you're not, I'd say go for it.

The good news is that title remains clean which means the damage was moderate or even if extensive, it was satisfactorily repaired.

I'm not familiar with how things work at auctions but from what I've heard most will at least give you the opportunity to view the car prior to proceedings and the VIN is visible in the usual locations on the car.

When things sometimes don't go the way we desire as in this case, my philosophy is "it could be worse" What if you had paid $20k for a flood damaged car with salvage value and no rebuilt title? The car's exterior pics are nice and I hope you enjoy it.

If you are not comfortable with the car's history, the best thing would be for the seller to get you another car with a clean title . On the other hand, rebuilt cars are typically sold cheap in the US so the seller should ordinarily be able to pass on the savings to you if he can't give you a better car.

The question is are you comfortable with the car even with a cheaper than normal price? If it's being sold for same price as cars with clean titles, there's a problem. Another issue is what remedy is available to you if you don't take the car? will he buy you a different one? 75% of the price has been paid so you really don't have much room to manoeuver. The good news is that the car has a rebuilt title which usually means it's passed some sort of road worthiness inspection in the States.

Unfortunately, no way to solve the mileage problem which could be due to tampering or the odometer simply not working properly. Either way, my first inclination would be to request a different car and hope he agrees.

Maybe by some miracle, this is not the real VIN. Let me know if he offers any new VINs, I'll check for you. The good news is that as news of vehicle history reports become common knowledge in nigeria, our people will get a fairer deal from importers/sellers.
