@ Bubbloma For both VINs: The letters "I", "O", and "Q" never appear in a VIN. - The VIN must be exactly 17 characters in length. - The CARFAX database contains information for cars manufactured from 1981 through the present. |

@ Ovamboland TOTAL LOSS means the cost to repair after the accident exceeded 75% of the pre-accident value of the car. The insurance company made this determination. SALVAGE - In most US states, salvage means vehicle is not road worthy and some states would regard the vehicle as junk. If CARFAX indicated REBUILT, would mean vehicle has been repaired, inspected and restored to operation. Refurbished parts are often used for rebuilt title repairs. There's no indication that this vehicle has a rebuilt title so it's possible it was repaired but not inspected/didn't pass inspection or maybe repaired in Nigeria. Either way, no evidence it passed regulatory inspection in the US after repair. I would advise you to stay away from this car. |

Nairalanders, Until Nov 27/08, I'd be happy to check CARFAX if you post your VIN here. You can find the VIN (I hear it's also called chassis or engine number) at the following locations: On the door frame/door post of the front doors (usually driver's but sometimes passenger's) - On the dash near the windshield - On the engine itself (machined pad on front of engine) - On the car's firewall - In the left-hand inner wheel arch - On the steering wheel/steering column - On the radiator support bracket - On your car's title, registration, guarantee/maintenance book or on the declarations page of your auto insurance policy |
Congratulations, Ziontrain, wish you lots of success. |
Phammyus, Let's not forget that the VIN also verifies the model/manufacture year not just salvage or accident scenarios. I'm not a car expert but I too had checked the picture of the 2004 model online yesterday. I have a strong feeling that this is a honest mistake, all the best with your business. |
Busy_body raises a valid point re designating a car as "Nigerian used" just to avoid posting the VIN. Let's not forget that the VIN also verifies the model/manufacture year (that has sometimes been disuputed on Nairaland ads), the last reported mileage etc; not just salvage or accident scenarios. God knows a "Nigerian used" car can have it's odometer rolled back to show a figure less than it's reading upon shipment from US or Canada. Granted, no recorded history once the vehicle hits our shores but at least with the last Carfax mileage, a buyer has a pretty good idea of what the current mileage should look like depending on the car's operation since it arrived Nigeria. I say let's keep things simple so as not to create avoidable loopholes. If it has a VIN, post it and leave the buyer to decide if it's a good deal or not. |
Luisedet, I'm in full agreement. Most of these cars are coming in from North America so there's no reason why the VIN should not be displayed if the dealers are selling with confidence. |
@ Blackspade I'm in total agreement that discipline is necessary but I disagree that spanking is the only way to achieve it. There's no study/research that supports spanking as the most effective/best method of discipline and it certainly does not necessarily prevent the kinds of societal ills you have described. Before I came to live here, if someone had told me spanking would not be the method of choice in my household, I would have laughed at them. That's why I said the environment contributes to what you as an individual will see as effective. My philosophy is live and let live, you will never hear me tell someone not to spank their children. If na you born am, na you get that right! |
For the average child (noted there are children who have ADD, behavioral problems, autism, etc), the environment in which he/she grows up and what is seen as common/generally accepted plays a role in behavior. We've only spanked 2 or 3 times, not because we don't see bad behavior in action but because here in North America (don't know of other continents other than Africa), the schools encourage kids to be in tune with their feelings, they encourage them to communicate and voice out issues. As a result, kids display a higher sense of maturity in their relationship with adults and this gives us parents the opportunity to hold them accountable for bad behavior by speaking directly to their sense of right or wrong, punishment through "time-outs", denial of TV/computer privileges, etc. Spanking thus becomes the child is unable to relate hitting with correction. As we all know, spanking is a lot about intimidation and though this was the method of correction/punishment I was used to growing up, now it really does seem like a violent way to react to kids' bad behavior. Even in Nigeria, everyone knows that kid who doesn't cry when spanked and who doesn't change. Yes, I am a Nigerian and I am saying all this, but I also acknowledge that I would probably be of a different mindset if our kids were born and raised in Nigeria. |
@ Hakir Thanks for your quick response. I will need to have someone in Abuja check out the Yayale Ahmed estate environment. As for "currently partly renovated, so you get full renovation on payment" - what stage is completion at currently and when is 100% completion planned for? Is it possible to buy a completed one directly from the developer? |
@ hakir I'm interested in buying a newly constructed 2 or 3 bedroom flat located within an estate in the same class as the ones you've mentioned here. If you have any available, pls provide details including price and specific estate location. Thanks. |

The song is from nigeria's 25th Independence anniversary in 1985. Don't recall clearly now, might have been Sunny Okosun. Nigeria is 25 The odds we did survive Arise salute the nation Come join the celebration A people united will never fall The sun will shine and the rain will fall On our land vast and mighty Richly blessed by the Almighty Like bees in a hive We work so hard To make the honey flow But not without the use of the hoe, hoe, hoe Arise salute the nation Come join the celebration Nigeria is 25, Nigeria is 25 |
If there is at least a 75% chance of making a 2-1 with the extra semester, I say go for it. A couple of more months is a lot less than the number of years left in your life (May God grant you long life, good health). At 23, you easily have minimum 30 yrs ahead in terms of work/career pursuits. Even if you retire after 25 yrs of work, that's still a lot more than your current age. A 2-1 can make the difference when interviewing for a job especially in Nigeria of today; the job you get today can have lasting impact on the direction your career takes. Also, a 2-1 from Nigeria can make a difference btw getting into a really good school for post-grad studies and a mediocre, small time school in some parts of North America. |

One of the biggest things (note, not the only thing) men hate is a woman not bothering with her appearance once married. Granted there might be changes in appearance like weight gain due to childbirth(s) but that's no reason to let yourself go completely. If you get bigger, nothing spoil, key is retaining your hotness. Do all you are able, in the midst of being a working wife and mom; to make sure you remain attractive. |
Wife's mother because the average Nigerian woman relates much better with her own mom than her mother-in-law. She can speak her mind freely when talking with her mom without fear that anything she does or says "can be used against her." |

Probably not. |
I agree with reality4us. We have 5 1/2 yr old and 3 yr old cars, both purchased brand new. Presently, the former has 80000km and the latter's at 47000km because my spouse's commute to work is only about 20 mins and a large part of my commute is on trains/buses. |
