This issue is like flogging a dead horse, however a post-mortem of the award process is necessary.

This is worst thing FIFA has done since Cannavaro was made Player of the Year some time back. There were astounding players this year such as Xavi, Iniesta, Messi, Ronaldo, Forlan, Robben and Sneidjer.

The major problem for me was FIFA's mystifying choice of Messi, Xavi and Iniesta as the top 3. If anyone did shine at the club and international level, it has to be among Xavi, Forlan, Sneidjer and Robben. Iniesta was injured for most part of last season and didnt contribute that much.

My choice was obviously Sneidjer. Why he didnt make the top 3 baffles me. He was the anchor in Inter's treble last season. He was a force in leading Holland to the finals, scoring 4 (or 5) goals, as well as the important decider against all-mighty Brazil.

Hmm,
Deep,very deep and intelligent

The FIFA award doesnt go the most talent player but the best player in the year. Since captains and coaches did the voting, I perceive they didnt want the arrogant spanish players to win.

(Reuters) - Irrepressible Jose Mourinho added to his collection of titles on Monday when he won the first FIFA Coach of the Year award.

The Portuguese, now with Real Madrid, was given the accolade after leading Inter Milan to a treble of Champions League, Serie A and Italian Cup last season.

He won the poll ahead of two Spaniards, Vicente del Bosque, who led Spain to last year's World Cup, and Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola.

Former Chelsea coach Mourinho, 47, has won the Champions League with two different clubs having previously led Porto to the title.

The new award was organised by FIFA in conjunction with France Football magazine.

It's no longer news,Lio Messi was announced by FIFA as it's best player for year 2010.This is inspite of the fact that Messi had a very dissappointing world cup and did not win the UCL in the year under review.
Some have argued that players like Iniesta,Xavi or Wesley Sneijder performed better than Messi in 2010 and deserved to be given the award.Do you agree with FIFA in their choice of Lio Messi or you disagree,if you do disagree, then who do you think should have won it instead, please do give your reasons

Many of you are worse than market women. You not only sound silly, you sound hopelessly clueless and irrational.
And you sound like an backside wipe
Tell me,do you have to be able to prove allegations before you make arrests,is it the duty of the police or the EFCC to do that or the courts, since you're the only ignoramus that's decided to adopt the Ostrich approach to the Tinubu issue(as you've conveniently decided to pretend you never heard he operated foreign accounts, how about the tax evasion racket he's been doing with Oando?( ,fine and good, you're entitled to your opinion, only just allow the rest of us to ours without spewing stinking bunkum from your equally stinking mouth

The funny reality is that most of you nairalanders and your facebook colleagues are not the one who do the actual voting. For instance, how many of you are card-carrying mambers of any political party.Did any of you participate in the ward/LG and state congresses currently going on all over the nation?or y'all just think it's only the actual voting on election day that counts?Delegates conferences are actually as key as the election itself, especially as we have a culture of "right party" and "wrong party" in parts of the federation;for instance presently in Delta PDP is the right party;therefore a sound candidate with wonderful manifesto will likely lose a governorship election there if he is in any other partty aside PDP,same applies to Lagos and AC/ACN

Point is,elections ARE NOT WON on the pages of facebook as I'm sure over 90% of the facebookers and nairalanders are not actual party members

owobokiri:
For those calling for the election of Buhari, be carefull what you wish for. Buhari is a direhard ethnic/religous chauvinist . Many people are having wet dreams when they remember his regimes activities in his first coming. But most of those hard policy initiatives where carried out by Idiagbon. The coup itself wasnt even his brainchild that was why he was kicked out pretty easy. Without Idiagbon, Buhari is nothing but another fulani irridentist. Take a look at his PTF days and his utterances on religious and ethnic issues to know how dangerous this man is.
Amazing

God bless you Owobokiri. With all the myopia, ignorance, amnesia and hypocrisy I have seen on nairaland, especially on the political forum, where people actually mouth obscene support for repulsive elements like Babangida and Atiku,it's indeed very refreshing to see that objective people like you still come up with very sound, truthful and wise posts like this

US probes Atiku over wire fraud, money laundering

The United States Department of Justice may have opened investigations into allegations of wire fraud and money laundering against Nigeria’s former Vice-President Atiku Abukakar; one of his wives, Jennifer; his American lawyer, Mr. Edward Weidenfield; and an old business, Gabriele Volpi, to determine whether they contravened US government laws, according to a report by a website, TheWill.

The online medium said it learnt from a source, who opted to remain anonymous because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, that the justice department would seek to question the presidential aspirant, his wife and associates. However, the medium did not give details of the alleged fresh probe.

It stated that when it tried to obtain a formal statement on the issue from the justice department, a spokesperson promised “to get back to us as soon as possible.” TheWill stated that about 10 hours later, a spokesperson, Laura E. Sweeney, got in touch with it but declined to comment on the matter.

It said that in response to all its questions, Sweeney responded by saying, “We decline comment.”

The report also contained details of the alleged indictment of the former vice-president and his wife by the US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations in its Committee on Homeland Security and Government Affairs.

TheWill said the committee, which is headed by Senator Carl Levin, had in a report released on February 4, 2010 alleged that Abubakar’s wife laundered about $40m between 2000 and 2008.

When contacted, the spokesperson of the former vice-president, Mallam Garba Shehu, said there was ‘nothing new’ in the report. He said it was a 2009 report that was brought up by some individuals to ‘score a cheap political goal,’ adding that the issues raised ‘had been addressed.’
