The statement reads in part: “The attention of Enugu State House of Assembly has been drawn to today’s (Friday) newspaper reports to the effect that the House has endorsed former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar for the forthcoming primaries of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“We want to categorically state that nothing can be farther from the truth. While it is true that Alhaji Atiku Abubakar visited members of the House on Thursday, December 30, 2010 to seek their support, at no time did we endorse him.


“For the purposes of clarity, we want to re-state our commitment to the candidature of His Excellency, President Goodluck Jonathan. We are part of the larger Enugu State under PDP leadership of Governor Sullivan Iheanacho Chime which had unanimously endorsed President Jonathan both for the primaries and the general elections. Our position remains constant.

“In his response speech to Atiku’s speech, the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Eugene Odoh said; ‘we are men of integrity and will not do anything contrary to the wishes of the people’” the members stated.

The lawmakers re-emphasised that they would vote in line with the known position of the Government and people of Enugu State who have never hidden their total support for President Jonathan."
