People should be careful in asking question pertaining to how embassy confirms bank statement or how do I get a job in Canada to sustain myself etc. They are the people creating problems for genuine Nigerians who want to study. Mind you. This is an open forum which is open to the embassy staff too.
Why do you think embassies recruit some Nigerians to work with them as visa assistants? They recruit them specifically to scout for information on the tricks used by Nigerians in securing visa and they can read posts on this forum and give their paymaster, embassies some of the implicating posts some people post here. This informs why the embassy will look at a bank statement a conclude that the statement is forged whereas it is actually genuine. This also is the reason why the embassies don't believe in million we display in our accounts and with that people get refused whereas in other climes even Oman, people buy flight ticket before applying because of the assurance that the visa will be approved. You told the embassy that you have enough find but in actual sense, you don't have with the hope to go and hussle in Canada and pathetically, these individual won't go to school and they begin looking for money by all means including stealing and yahoo yahoo. These is the fear and concern in issuing Nigerians visas because they know who we are.

What privacy? Are you kidding me? You submitted every single info about you to the embassy AND signed a disclaimer that the info you submitted is genuine and true then the embassy called the bank to verify the same info you have given them and you called that breach of privacy?

What planet are you from?

I don't know why people are worried about if embassy calls the bank or not if they have nothing to hide. The bad news is that embassy will definitely confirm your statement. If you like go to the Supreme Court. If you don't want your privacy to be breached, don't present a bank statement to the embassy or you don't apply for visa.

Thanks for the encouragement.
When I applied for the visa, the processing time then was 6weeks.

Moreover, i don't even know where my student visa is being processed since I applied online

If your application has Passed the normal processing time and you have sent a mail to them with no effect. Take a back door by ordering your GCMS note. They will attend to it sharp sharp

Errrm,

It's been 4weeks since i applied online, and i have not heard pekem. The only thing that changed was "biometrics updated".I understand some people applied way earlier before me and it's the same, some have also gotten updates in less processing time.
I've signed into my CIC account more than i've used google in the last one month.

From experience, what's the likely processing time before one begins to get updates. Basically, this is just to get have another date i'm counting down to.

BTW, i've been to canada, USA, and Turkey and i indicated them, i've been reading several travel history, don't know if this counts cos it appears travel history now delays instead of giving assurance.

Thanks guys, and God's will be done in our lives.

Even previous travel to Canada may contribute to refusal ground

A friend just told me about this case.
His younger brother applied for the study on 3rd of April, 2018 via paper routes with a tuition fees of $8,000. He put his living and board at $10,000 and others as $3500 making a total AVAILABLE FUND of $21,500 and presented a personal bank statement of about $26,000 but to his surprise, the school sent an emai to him on 26th April, 2018 (three weeks after he submitted his application) that the tiition fees has been increased to $12,000 and he had innocently written $8000 on the study permit form.
Hope he won't risk insufficient fund story?

I am not interested in attacking anyone as much as I am interested in facts. The figures have been debated on too on the SOWP forum and the take is that one figure by @Ratawau is for PR and family sponsorship and the other by @goingforward is actually what CIC uses for assessing international students applying for SOWP. The figures are diametrically opposed and cannot be both correct for assessing SOWP.

Yes, for PR but I am telling u authoritatively that it is what the CIC uses for SOWP now BUT IF YOU FEEL I AM WRONG, GO AHEAD AND DO YOUR WISH.
Good luck.

This is actually correct because that is what CIC always recommends if you are applying for SOWP. The principal applicant has to show an additional $4k for spouse and $3k for every dependent child or minor.

This is what the CIC will use for your Spousal Work Permit whether you like it or not

Minimum Necessary Income and Family Class Sponsorships

One of the requirements to being a sponsor in both the Family Class and the Spouse or Common-Law Partner in Canada Class is that the sponsor must on the day that the application is submitted and until the application is assessed have a minimum necessary income.

For most types of family sponsorships, the income must be equal to the minimum necessary income, which is statutorily defined as being equal to Statistics Canada Low Income Cutoff (“LICO“). The current LICO requirements are as follows:

Size of Family Unit Minimum necessary income
1 person (the sponsor) $24,600
2 persons $30,625
3 persons $37,650
4 persons $45,712
5 persons $51,846
6 persons $58,473
7 persons $65,101
More than 7 persons, for each additional person, add $6,628
For sponsors seeking to sponsor their parents and/or grandparents, the income must be equal to the minimum necessary income plus 30% for each of the three consecutive taxation years immediately preceding the date of filing of the sponsorship application. The current requirements are as follows:

Federal Income Table for Parents and Grandparents Sponsorship
Size of Family Unit Minimum Income
2015 Minimum Income
2014 Minimum Income
2013
2 persons $38,618 $38,272 $37,708
3 persons $47,476 $47,051 $46,354
4 persons $57,642 $57,125 $56,280
5 persons $65,377 $64,791 $63,833
6 persons $73,733 $73,072 $71,991
7 persons $82,091 $81,355 $80,153
If more than 7 persons, for each additional person, add $8,358 $8,271 $8,148
Canadians seeking to sponsor their spouses or common-law partners do not need to have a minimum necessary income.

Excluded from these amounts include, amongst other things, any amounts paid to the sponsor under the Employment Insurance Act, other than special benefits.

Looking Beyond the Notices of Assessment

Visa officers must accept Canada Revenue Agency Notices of Assessment as proof of income when a sponsorship application is filed.

However, the Immigration Appeal Division (the “IAD”) can look beyond the Notice of Assessment. In Motala v. Canada (Citizenship and Immigration), 2012 FC 123, the Federal Court stated that:

goingforward:

I am a bit confused with your response and i disagree.

For a family of 5 for 1 year living expenses is 10kCAD (for primary applicant) + 4kCAD for 1 (adult dependent) and three children 3kCAD each

This sums up to 23kCAD

In naira its about 6.5million. (1year living expenses)

Please, how did you arrive at 20million

Going forward.

Many people don't know that Canadian visa officers have now adopted the use of LICO for the spousal work permit application. If you rely on the $4000 for adult plus $3000 for each of the dependant, you risk refusal on insufficient fund.

@ goingforward, thanks for your contribution.
I applied via paper route for my study permit.
I travelled from. US to Canada in January 2017 spent two days then back to UW before coming to Nigeria.
I travelled with my child and nephew ,my spouse didn't travel was back home busy with studies.

Thereafter I applied for study permit in May 2017 got refusal letter in July reapplied February 2018 got refusal letter in March 2018. All application have been via paper route.

Well you have a point, I recall in February 2017 as a sort of test run I registered my express entry profile online but didn't meet anywhere near cut off point never felt it would matter. More so that my study permit was via paper route.

I still appreciate input from experts in the house.
Anyone with similar experience that later got study permit after first attempt.

You can share your profile and let the house understand your case better for a proper advice vis a vis your undergraduate course, your present occupation and the course you are going for.

I submitted my Canada Study Permit Application sometime last week. I received a mail from VFS that my application has been submitted. However, I have been trying to link my application online to no avail. I also noticed my application was forwarded to the Lagos Visa Office and not Accra. My VFS tracking also starts with CALA rather than the usal GHAN. Do the Canada Visa Office in Nigeria now process Study Permits? Someone help, please.

Thank you.

Yes, Lagos is now processing study permit for paper route only.

I just got invited for medicals today but i already submitted upfront medicals. Please guys, how do I go about it?
I think I have one of the simplest profiles here. 2M bank statement, employment letters, 2 pages SOP, all forms filled, father's bank statement, police certificate, birth certificate of family and former degree certificate and a lot of faith in God! Thats it.
I have been secretly praying for you all, next week will have a lot of good news. mark it!

The English is very clear. Or do you want something like... "We regret to inform you that... We wish you well in your future applications"?

They specifically stated you should email them once you have a new score uploaded and also said you should let them know if you want to withdraw your application. This means they are giving you chance to get the seemingly ONLY impediment to your admission.

Quickly give the exam again and hope you get the required score.

Your second refusal is based mainly on the purpose of visit. All those personal assets and trave history are just "jara".
Did your SOP address the below questions
1. Why the program?
2. Why Canada and not Nigeria considering the high cost of the program?
3. What concrete benefits will the program bring to you In terms of career prospect and personal development. What is the future prospect of the program and lucrative is the program in Nigeria? How significant is your program towards the economic and social Development of Nigeria?

The mistake many of us do in our SOP is that we give generic response to the above questions instead of doing a thorough research and put up a case specific response that is peculiar to our personal circumstances.
But most important thing there is PRAYER
