my fear of cats as a kid was a result of my environment where cats were labelled as witches.

So one day, a cat was in our compound and I saw grown ups causing a scene, they chased the cat and it ran for its dear life. The cat was eventually cornered and stoned to death. All I saw in the cat's eyes was fear and pain.
It was scared of us....We called that little harmless creature witch, when we were the ones terrorizing its life. We were the witches and wizards.

I felt pity for the cat, most painful we later found out it had kittens. Innocent animals just living their lives
