Health › COVID19: Muhammad Dingyadi Goes Into Isolation by References(op): 1:17pm On Jul 21, 2020 |
The Minister of Police Affairs, Muhammad Dingyadi has gone into self-isolation for COVID-19.
This followed his meeting with the foreign affairs minister, Geoffrey Onyeama, who tested positive for the virus.
Dingyadi and a former Sokoto State governor, Senator Aliyu Wammako, met with Onyeama last Thursday.
The spokesman, police affairs ministry, Mr Seyi Odutayo, confirmed the development to our correspondent on today (Tuesday).
He said, “I can confirm that the minister met with his foreign affairs counterpart last Thursday and following the announcement that Mr Geoffrey Onyeama tested positive for the virus, the minister of police affairs has also decided to go into isolation in compliance with the NCDC guidelines.”
The PUNCH had reported that senior officials and staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs may also undergo mandatory testing for COVID-19.
Onyeama, a member of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 and the first federal cabinet member to test positive announced his status on his Twitter handle on Sunday after his fourth test returned positive for the virus.
It could not be immediately ascertained if other PTF members would take the COVID-19 test or go into quarantine on account of Onyeama’s status.
Onyeama had met with several foreign diplomats and officials in the last two weeks. He had posted pictures of the dignitaries he held meetings with on his official Twitter handle.
On July 13, he received the Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Nigeria, Hocine Latli.
The minister also received a delegation from the Nigerian National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons led by the Federal Commissioner, Senator Basheer Mohammed.
On July 14, Onyeama received the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Amb. Jamal Barrow and they both discussed issues. https://punchng.com/breaking-covid-19-police-affairs-minister-goes-into-isolation/?amp=1&utm_term=Autofeed&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Twitter&__twitter_impression=true

The president of the Bolivian Football Federation (FBF), Cesar Salinas, died Sunday after being hospitalized with COVID-19 earlier this month, officials said. The federation confirmed his death in a statement that highlighted his "dedication and commitment to national and international football." Salinas, 58, had chaired the FBF since 2018. He was a director of The Strongest in La Paz, a century-old Bolivian soccer institution. His wife, head of the same club, also tested positive for COVID-19. "My condolences to the family and friends of Cesar Salinas, president of the Bolivian Football Federation. They have all my support in these hard times," wrote the interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Anez, on Twitter. The South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) said: "Conmebol and the South American soccer family deeply regret the death." Salinas had recently met with authorities to plan restarting football in Bolivia after the virus shutdown. With 11 million inhabitants, Bolivia has registered 58,136 cases and 2,106 deaths. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nation.co.ke/kenya/sports/football/president-of-bolivian-football-federation-dies-from-covid-19-1901808%3fview=htmlamp Mynd44 Lalasticlala Seund4lyfe

Politics › Hos Declares NASS Clerk, Others’ Service Extension Illegal by References(op): 10:10am On Jul 07, 2020*. Modified: 10:38am On Jul 07, 2020 |
The Head of Service of the Federation, Dr Folasade Yemi-Esan, has told the leadership of the National Assembly to reverse the elongation of service and retirement age of workers in the federal parliament. Yemi-Esan, in a written presentation to the President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, faulted the amendment made by the 8th National Assembly to the Conditions of Service of the National Assembly. The Head of Service stated this in his written presentation to NASS leadership, with reference number HCSF/SPSO/ODD/E & NP/649807/I, dated June 30, 2020. The document, a copy of which our correspondent sighted on Monday, was entitled ‘Presentation by the Head of Service of the Federation to the Leadership of the National Assembly on the Resolution of the 8th Assembly Regarding the Extension of Retirement Age of the Staff of the National Assembly Service Commission.’ The presentation partly read, “The 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) classifies the clerk and other staff of the National Assembly as public servants whose conditions of service are guided are by the public service rules which derives its existence from Section 169 made pursuant to Section 160(1) of the Constitution. “In specific terms, Section 318(1) of the Constitution states that ‘public service of the Federation means the service of any capacity in respect of the Government of the Federation and includes as (a) clerk or other staff of the National Assembly or of each house of the National Assembly.’ She said the public service rules “prescribes attainment of 60 years of age or 35 years of service for an officer to retire, whichever comes earlier.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/punchng.com/hos-declares-nass-clerk-others-service-extension-illegal/%3famp=1 Lalasticlala Mynd44 |

Jobs/Vacancies › 774,000 Jobs: Only NDE Will Implement Recruitment - Lawan Declares by References(op): 3:28pm On Jul 06, 2020 |
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, declared on Monday that the National Directorate of Employment will be fully in charge of the exercise designed to recruit 774,000 youths across Nigeria as part of the Federal Government COVID-19 palliative measures.
He, however, said that the NDE and the Ministry Labour and Productivity must first explain the modalities for the recruitment process.
Lawan stated this during an interactive session with journalists in Abuja.
He said, “Only NDE will implement this programme. The NDE led by the ministry of labour will have to come and explain.
“It will be unfair to say that we in the legislature and executive are not on the same page because of an action by someone in the executive.
“What the National Assembly is insisting on is in national interest.”
The National Assembly had last week asked the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to suspend the programme, following a face-off between one of his ministers and the joint panel of the two chambers of the federal parliament.
The PUNCH had reported that the federal lawmakers last Tuesday, walked out the Minister of State for Labour, Festus Keyamo, following his refusal to apologise after the legislators accused him of raising his voice against them.
The incident happened at an investigative hearing organised by the National Assembly Joint Committee on Employment, Labour and Productivity.
Members of the joint panel had summoned the Minister and the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment, Nasiru Argungu, to brief them on steps so far taken to recruit 774,000 across the country.
Keyamo had told the panel how he had set up a 20-member committee in each state to midwife the programme.
Trouble started when lawmakers queried Keyamo for allegedly engaging in lopsided recruitment without the active involvement of the NDE, the agency that got N52bn approval from the National Assembly to implement the programme.
The argument that ensued afterwards, led to a shouting match between both parties which later forced the lawmakers to drive Keyamo out of the meeting. https://punchng.com/breaking-774000-jobs-only-nde-will-implement-recruitment-lawan-declares/
