Boko Haram terrorists are currently attacking Damasak town in Borno State, SaharaReporters can confirm

A security source told our correspondent that the insurgents came into the village around 3:00pm, shooting sporadically.

“Damasak is currently under attack, pray for our troops in Damasak. They are presently under attack by Boko Haram,” said the source, who would not want his name published.

Increased attacks by insurgents have been recorded in the area in recent times that led to the displacement of residents between 2015 and 2017.

Politics › Kogi Chief Judge Dies Of COVID-19 Complications by References(op):
The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Nasir Ajanah, has died due to COVID-19 complications, POLITICS NIGERIA has learned.

According to a member of the family of the deceased, the judge died at the COVID-19 isolation centre in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Recall that the Kogi state government has insisted that the North Central state does not have any case of Coronavirus. It also accused the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) of falsifying COVID-19 cases in Kogi.

But the death of Ajanah, an aide to Governor Yahaya Bello and Shaibu Atadoga, the president of the Kogi customary court of appeal, has s negated the stance of the state government.

Ajanah was born in 1956 to the family of MJ Fari Ajanah in Okene local government area.

He studied law at the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and was called to the Nigerian bar as a barrister and solicitor of the supreme court.

Ajanah later set up his private firm, Nasiru Ajanah & Co in Okene, where he practised law between 1985 and 1989.

He served in various capacities such as chairman, Kabba disturbance tribunal, Kogi, (1994); chairman, election petitions tribunal in Adamawa state (1998); member of governing council of Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (1999 and 2006) and chairman, panel on Murtala Mohammed international airport fire incident (2000).

Ajanah, whose remains will be buried in Abuja on Sunday, served as chairman, election petitions tribunal in Akwa Ibom state (2007) and chairman, election tribunal petitions in Rivers state (2008).

Health › Abia Discharges 93 COVID-19 Patients by References(op): 4:17pm On Jun 22, 2020
Ninety-three persons from Abia State were on Monday morning discharged from the state isolation centre in Amachara Specialist, Umuahia after they were treated and confirmed COVID-19 free.

The result of their sample sent to the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) laboratory at Abakiliki, Ebonyi State returned negative as at the weekend, prompting the Task Force on COVID-19 in Abia State to release them.

The State Commissioner for Information, Chief John Okiyi Kalu who dropped this hint in a chat with the Daily Independent in Umuahia explained that more patients of COVID-19 who have been successfully treated of the virus, would be discharged this week if their expected negative results from the NCDC laboratory are out.

On the latest report of the death of three COVID-19 patients in Abia State as published by NCDC on Sunday, Okiyi Kalu said that they died because their cases were bad before their arrival to the isolation centres, even as he used the forum to advise persons who may be having symptoms of the virus to submit themselves immediately for test.

“If the number one citizen of the state can come out publicly to announce his status that he’s COVID-19 positive, I don’t see why any person can continue to hide his or her status, thereby infecting others”, he contended.

The Abia Information Commissioner announced that the state centres being established by the state government in Umuahia and Aba would soon take off, saying that officials of NCDC came to the state on Sunday to inspect the two different facilities at the Amachara and Abia State Teaching Hospital, Aba and thereafter gave the places a clean bill of health.

Politics › Rivers Locks Down Bonny LGA And Onne Community by References(op): 9:03pm On Jun 20, 2020
RIVERS LOCKS DOWN BONNY LGA AND ONNE COMMUNITY

*Residents of the State to prepare for statewide lockdown if infections continue to increase unabated

Rivers State Government has imposed a total lockdown of Bonny Local Government Area and Onne Community in Eleme Local Government Areas with effect from Sunday, June 21, 2020 to check the spread of coronavirus in the State.

Consequently, all residents of Bonny Local Government and Onne community, except those on essential services and duly exempted must stay at home.

Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike announced this today in a state-wide broadcast.

"Pursuant to the fundamental objective of stopping the spread of coronavirus, we have reviewed the situation in Bonny Island and Onne Communities and come to the conclusion that a total lockdown is necessary at this time to shut down the continuing spread of the virus in these communities.

"By this measure, all shops, offices and business places must remain closed.

"All gatherings, including religious, burial and wedding activities are prohibited. All entry and exit into the two communities, except those on essential services and duly permitted, are also banned.

"Security agencies have been directed to enforce the lockdown by arresting and prosecuting anyone who dares to disobey these directives, " he said.

The Governor noted that with a total of 866 positive cases out of 2572 tested samples, the State is gradually becoming the next epicenter of the virus in the South-south region of the country.

He said that within this period, the state also recorded 30 deaths, including prominent persons while 356 persons recovered and were discharged from Treatment Centres.

According to the Governor, only today the state recorded 127 new cases leaving the Isolation and Treatment Centres overwhelmed.

As the number of new cases and deaths continue to increase, the Governor said there is no more denying that coronavirus is both dangerous and deadly.

"We cannot also deny that the transmission of the virus in our state is currently on a steep upward trend. This being so, we must all brace up to the reality of having new infections and a couple of deaths in the coming weeks and months.

"When we recognised that effective early response was key to preventing the virus from progressing deep, we introduced drastic measures to protect our citizens.

"Unfortunately, some people deliberately twisted our intentions, maligned our timely measures and exploited the attendant temporary hardship on our people to further their selfish political drives.

"Today, I am sure with the daily worrisome number of new infections and the fear of possible calamitous community transmission, everyone is now seeing the needless politicization of the fight against coronavirus.

"Nevertheless, we are encouraged by the fact that the virus can effectively be stopped from spreading further, if only we all submit to the prescribed guidelines on social distancing as a matter of strict responsibility, he stated.

Governor Wike regretted the nonchalant attitude of those who blatantly violate the rights of people to good health and public safety by refusing to comply with established guidelines.

He therefore appealed to all residents and visitors to treat the spread of coronavirus with all seriousness by
*staying at home as much as possible
*avoiding contacts with others when outside
*avoiding gathering in groups
*regularly washing hands; and
*regularly wearing face masks in public places, including transport mediums.

The Governor assured that government would continue to collaborate with well-meaning partners to stop the continuing spread of coronavirus.

He stated that this is not a time to play politics and called on residents to accept individual responsibility to reduce the risk of transmission and protect our people.

The Governor warned that residents of the State should be prepared for a statewide lockdown if the number of new infections continue to increase unabated.
