You are correct by geopolitical division of Nigeria. But I think by geography and culture, large part of Kwara and Ilorin is located in the southwest.

Health / How To Manage Fear In Distress Or Tensed Situation by Rendezvou: 8:42pm On Oct 23, 2020
How to manage fear in distress or tensed situation.

Recent events unfolding in Nigeria which have caused loss of lives and properties, several degree of injuries and damages have heightened anxiety in many people who live within or around hotspots of fracas and hullabaloo. These unfortunate incidences have created tension which can lead to hypertension and other devastating health challenges. While it is normal to be concerned about the safety of your life and that of your family and friends, extended period of tension can do a lot of damage if not managed.

Some years ago when I was temporarily residing in a town where cultism is rampant among students from secondary to tertiary institution, a friend was redeployed to another state and region due to the incessant cult clashes often accompanied with street fights and maiming even in broad daylight. She was battling with very high blood pressure and cardiophobia. Any sudden sound could make her pass out and she could no longer cope with the too often noisy disturbances and fightings.

When you find yourself in an environment where the peaceful atmosphere has been destabilized due to triggered trouble and you are locked up in fear, you must device means to manage the fear because fear can kill people even before death. Many have lost sleep while others are sleeping with one eye closed in the past few days in many parts of Lagos and other parts of the country where terror is being unleashed. Some people have lost appetite and cannot just eat well even though they are hungry. Managing fear at this tensed period is our own first measure to put the situation under control within our system while we stay safe.

In order to put your fear under control:

1. Discuss your fear- Do not bottle up your fears and concerns, share them with your confidants, relations, and trusted neighbors. Talk about issues giving you sleepless nights, let your people know the situation around your neighborhood. Call a friend to ask about their safety too. This may give you a kind of relief and encouragement to stay stronger.

2. Stop reading too many bad news- while you must keep yourself abreast of events around you, if you realize you have become too fearful with all the terrifying news flying around, it would be wise to stop reading or listening to too many of them. Just scroll up past most topic or report that has to do with any sad and disturbing incidences, click on only a few to stay informed or get brief updates from others. Refuse to open or download those forwarded videos and photos of gory scenes on social media. Read sport, science, discovery and others news more often instead.

3. Find ways to laugh and laugh more. - comedy, jokes can help you cool off and quench the fire of anger and too much worry and fear about everything. Watch comedy videos on YouTube, listen to jokes, shift your mind away from your fears.

4. Imagine a worst case scenario. - one of the ways to subdue your fear is to imagine that what you fear most happens. There is nothing new under heaven and whatever happens to anyone has happened to others before. I pray that evil will not befall anyone by God's grace. This imagination might help you realize the vanity of life and why you do not need to allow fear kill you before your time. It does not also mean you should make yourself vulnerable, stay safe as much as you can.

5. Speak aloud to your fears. - If you cannot tame your fear by imagining a worst case scenario or that option does not go down well with you due to your faith or other reasons, then speak aloud to it. If you are soaked in the fear of death, speak it loud and clear that 'I shall not die but live'. If your greatest fear is any form of loss, echo it that 'I shall not suffer any loss'. There is power in spoken words and they can make your fears disappear into thin air. Be confident with your declarations and do not doubt or begin to shiver when you hear gunshots rending the air.

6. Device a backup or safety measure. - Amidst the turmoil, think of ways to keep yourself and loved ones safer or how you can possibly defend yourself or escape attacks. Don't just sit, watch and panic around, also think. A measure such as an escape route in case of any eventuality can help in reducing your tension and put your mind at rest to an extent.

7. Engage yourself - Read books, watch movies and sport, fellowship, pray, sing, dance, play games etc By the time you become engrossed in any of the above, the grip of terrific fear would have been loosed. Spend more time on that activity that makes you forget your fears. I feel stronger when I pray. Watching comic films calms my nerves as I smile and laugh, reading takes my mind away from worries.

Let's stay safe, pray for our country and play our part for normalcy to return

The adjective 'Deeper' used in this piece is to emphasize the need for Christians to be deep in their knowledge of Christ and their obedience to His word. Read the first sentence again, you will see that there is no conflict here. Thanks

Religion / Characteristics Of A Deeper Christian by Rendezvou: 5:47pm On Sep 11, 2016
So many of us claim to be Christians, but we do not meet up the requirements that will qualify us for the designation. Though we need grace (which has been made available to us) and the Holy Spirit in order to please God, many of us are not making any personal effort. Just as a student knows that after being taught, there is still need to do personal studies and revisions in order to pass an examination excellently if he is not relying on expo or any form of give-and-take, there is need for us to discipline ourselves in many areas as preparations for the ultimate examination where we cannot cheat, bribe our way through or hire mercenaries.

The list is inexhaustible, but here are some consequential characteristics a deeper Christian (true Christian) should possess:

1. A deeper Christian is a prayer warrior. Not husbands who always tell their wives to pray short prayers. Not someone who prays only on Sundays. Not someone who could watch a three-hour movie non-stop but couldn't pray for 1 hour alone.

2. A deeper Christian is a soul winner. He preaches the gospel of Jesus Christ and wins soul to the kingdom. This is what Christ commissioned us for. Ask yourself, when was the last time I spoke to someone about Jesus?

3. A deeper Christian is not lousy, he is calm and gentle in heart. Not that he is dumb, but he speaks when necessary and whatever he says would edify, encourage, motivate and inspire his hearers - no vain talks.

4. A deeper Christian is teachable- he listens to others and takes correction. No matter how knowledgeable and brilliant he is, he doesn't look down on anyone and always willing to learn.

5. A deeper Christian must be word-filled, a man who studies and knows the word of God. Only extreme circumstances beyond his control would not enable him to open his bible in a day. He also tries to memorize at least a verse per day. Try to master a verse per week for a start and watch yourself grow.

6. A deeper Christian is an incurable giver. Does not close his eyes to the needy if he has the means to help. They often give anonymously in cash or kind and where they couldn't hide their identity, they do not blow trumpets.

7. A deeper Christian submits to the leading of the Holy Spirit. They do not just follow multitudes or take quick decisions without hearing from the Holy Spirit.

8. A deeper Christian does not give in to the lost of the flesh. Not that they do not see the nudity being paraded everywhere, but they decided that they would not fulfill the lost of the flesh. Once they accidentally catch a glimpse, they redirect their gaze, delete the catche files and move on. Only weak men give excuses that they cannot put their eyes, hearts and minds off immorality.

9. A deeper Christian is patient, willing to wait on the Lord. He understands that every problem is a tool in God's hand to refine him for His glory. Not Christians who serve God for what they want and not for who God is.

10. A deeper Christian is hardworking, not lazy. He is not an individual who wants faith to bring everything to his bedroom without any effort.

11. A deeper Christian must be holy. We are called to be holy. Conscious efforts must be made towards perfection while relying on the Holy Spirit for grace.

12. A deeper Christian keeps no record of sin. There is no need to note such in his diary because he has forgiven his offenders before they ask for forgiveness.

13. A deeper Christian thirsts and hunger after God: to know Him more. Despite the closeness, he still craves for more intimacy with God and doing everything to get closer day by day.

14. A deeper Christian retreats regularly in quiet time, prayer etc alone with God. There are invaluable periods that should be for you and your loved ones alone. Unfortunately, many Christian homes prefer vacations spent at various beaches and resorts but have never considered a vacation at any prayer ground and prayer mountains to be alone with God.

15. A deeper Christian must be broken. Someone who takes things easy generally in the physical but violent in the spiritual. A fellow who holds no grudges against anyone and forgives easily. An advocate of peace who is difficult to offend.

AM I A DEEPER CHRISTIAN?

Happy Sunday.

Romance / Pretty Lady Seeking A Rich Husband Got A Priceless Reply From A Banker by Rendezvou: 9:03am On May 02, 2016
Pretty girl was seeking a rich husband. The reply she got from a banker was priceless

We all know women who are ‘gold diggers’. But rarely do we find women so bold and transparent about their hunt.

This pretty woman is serious about her goals. She went to a forum seeking a rich husband. And wrote a rather desperate sounding inquiry as to how she could attract a man with money.

“I’m going to be honest of what I’m going to say here. I’m 25 this year. I’m very pretty, have style and good taste. I wish to marry a guy with $500k annual salary or above. You might say that I’m greedy, but an annual salary of $1Mis considered only as middle class in New York.

My requirement is not high. Is there anyone in this forum who has an income of $500k annual salary? Are you all married? I wanted to ask: what should I do to marry rich persons like you?

Among those I’ve dated, the richest is $250k annual income, and it seems that this is my upper limit.
If someone is going to move into high cost residential area on the west of New York City Garden(?), $250k annual income is not enough.

I’m here humbly to ask a few questions:

1) Where do most rich bachelors hang out? (Please list down the names and addresses of bars, restaurant, gym)
2) Which age group should I target?
3) Why most wives of the riches are only average-looking? I’ve met a few girls who don’t have looks and are not interesting, but they are able to marry rich guys.
4) How do you decide who can be your wife, and who can only be your girlfriend? (my target now is to get married)
Ms. Pretty”
A philosophical reply from CEO of J.P. Morgan below:
“Dear Ms. Pretty,

I have read your post with great interest. Guess there are lots of girls out there who have similar questions like yours. Please allow me to analyse your situation as a professional investor.

My annual income is more than $500k, which meets your requirement, so I hope everyone believes that I’m not wasting time here.

From the standpoint of a business person, it is a bad decision to marry you. The answer is very simple, so let me explain.

Put the details aside, what you’re trying to do is an exchange of “beauty” and “money” : Person A provides beauty, and Person B pays for it, fair and square.
However, there’s a deadly problem here, your beauty will fade, but my money will not be gone without any good reason. The fact is, my income might increase from year to year, but you can’t be prettier year after year.

Hence from the viewpoint of economics, I am an appreciation asset, and you are a depreciation asset. It’s not just normal depreciation, but exponential depreciation. If that is your only asset, your value will be much worse 10 years later.

By the terms we use in Wall Street, every trading has a position, dating with you is also a “trading position”.

If the trade value dropped we will sell it and it is not a good idea to keep it for long term – same goes with the marriage that you wanted. It might be cruel to say this, but in order to make a wiser decision any assets with great depreciation value will be sold or “leased”.

Anyone with over $500k annual income is not a fool; we would only date you, but will not marry you. I would advice that you forget looking for any clues to marry a rich guy. And by the way, you could make yourself to become a rich person with $500k annual income. This has better chance than finding a rich fool.

Hope this reply helps.

signed,
J.P. Morgan CEO”

Religion / Noises From Places Of Worship- How Can We Control It by Rendezvou: 3:01pm On Oct 18, 2015
Many of us are aware of the recent closure of some places of worship (mostly churches) by the Lagos State government as a result of various complaints from nearby residents claiming they were disturbing the serenity of their neighbourhood.
www.nairaland.com/2558926/22-noisy-churches-shut-down
www.tori.ng/news/.../22-noisy-churches-shut-down-in-lagos-state

As a Nigerian who thinks right, I cannot deny the fact that many times I feel disturbed by loud noises coming from churches and mosques that are only a stone throw from my abode. I also sometimes feel we are disrupting somebody's sleep whenever my church is holding a vigil and the loud prayers and shouting could be heard over 200 meters away. It is not something debatable that noises stemming from many places of worship have constituted nuisances. Nigerians, even though they know their rights, are generally religious and not litigious. So they accept the incessant unpleasant disturbances even if it is detrimental to their health and move on. Let us consider one or more of the following suggestions on how we could pray and praise our God without disrupting the peace of others:

1. Do Not Build Churches/Mosques at the Heart of Residences- Churches located at residential borders, along major roads, commercial/office and industrial areas are less likely to disrupt anyone’s sleep or peace. I was in a church seminar few days back where a woman said her father had to secure another apartment where he goes to rest and sleep whenever the church beside his house has programme or vigil in order to save his ailing health. What if he couldn’t afford to get another apartment? What about other poor neighbours who are also old, weak and sick?

2. Build Sound Proof Places of Worship- I know many churches with diminutive congregation may not be financially buoyant to build sound proof structures or install sound proof systems but Its an option to really consider if your church could afford it. With this, occupants of buildings few meters away from the church may begin to doubt if worshippers gather to pray or hold secret meetings.

3. Remove Horn Speakers- Noises from some places of worship would have been bearable without the speakers mounted outside. Some mosques and churches encompass their buildings with more horn speakers than with electric bulbs. I once lived in a community some years back where early calls to prayers were often echoed from several horn speakers from about four different mosques before dawn. At that moment you are only left with the option of waking up.

4. Reduce the Volume of Your Engine Set (PAS)- Once the congregation can hear the sounds coming from the microphones and the musical instruments clearly then its just ok. Do not amplify your engine unnecessarily. I stay beside a speaker due to my role in the church and honestly, my left hear often blocks few minutes into the service and reopens hours after the service and sometimes the next day because of the noise level.

5. Pray Fervent Prayers at the Right Time and in the Right Place- I understand that there are some challenges that require violent prayers involving shouting and crying aloud. That is the essence of prayer mountains, prayer cities, prayer camps et cetera. They are often situated in isolated places or on the hills where several people cry aloud unto the Lord round the clock without becoming nuisance to anyone.

6. Do Not Turn Deaf Ear to Complaints- Do not Label Complainants as enemies or devils. Get field back from your neighbourhood whether noises from the church is affecting them. Listen to complaints; explore ways by which you can minimize the noise. Apologise if necessary and do not raise prayer points of ‘kill them’, ‘relocate them’, ‘shut their mouth’ and the likes on complainants. If their complaints are not genuine because they are simply enemies of your faith, your God knows how to silence them which he will surely do if you are worshiping the true God in spirit and in truth.

Happy Sunday!

A soldier is not a sport man. He fights for the cause of his nation and defends his country's territories, not for trophy or entertainment. Businesses and Works that a good child of God should not consider

We all know that we must work as Christians. In fact, there is no room for laziness in the word of God. Even our Lord Jesus Christ worked as a carpenter before He kicked off His divine mission on earth. However, it is extremely important for us to choose career paths, jobs and enterprises that are in conformity with Godly principles. Some Christians would opine that whatever is not outrightly condemned in the Bible may be permissible. What I’ll say is, those who live by the spirit are led by the spirit and those who live by flesh are led by their carnal minds and they can never grasp spiritual things.

Rom 8:5-9 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. 8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Let us also remember that God is interested in all we do and He wants our lives and businesses to display His splendour.
1 Cor 10:31 Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God.
Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

1. Brothel – A brothel is a house of prostitution where people pay to have carnal knowledge of harlots. I do not know why anyone who claims to be a Christian would be running or thinking of opening a brothel. You would be leading people to damnation by drawing the soul of men into the pit of hell. You would be shattering homes and promoting promiscuity in the society. You would be encouraging prostitution, fornication and adultery. As a matter of fact, you would be like an executive satanic agent. Running a brothel is a no go area for God’s children.

2. Panderer/love-vendor- A man who solicits customers for prostitutes, acting as their manager and getting paid from part of the prostitute’s earnings. Those who are into this utterly immoral enterprise may be on the devil’s payroll without knowing. If you direct the knowhow used in arranging babes for Aristos (or young bloods for sugar mummies) into a decent endeavour, you will surely blossom. Do not ever think of encouraging or watering sinful relationships if you are truly for Jesus.

3. Selling Cigarette and Gins (Paraga, Sepe etc)- So many commercial vehicle operators have met their untimely death as a result of excessive smoking and drinking. It is unfortunate that many a times they also send a lot of innocent passengers to early graves. As true Christians, the Holy Ghost should be our intoxicant and not some ‘dry or wet gins.’ There is no glory in calling a child of God a smoker. Don’t think of this business if you really love God and your neighbours. There are other businesses you can set up and I pray that the Lord shall direct you if you seek His guidance.

4. Beer Parlour- One of my former church member used to run a beer parlour. So many married men and singles would drink to stupor and remain there at odd hours. Drinking as many as possible bottles is the prayer of the owner. Some would argue that even Jesus turned water to wine and Paul encouraged Timothy to take alcohol for healing out of ignorance of the Word of God. It is pathetic that many who lack the leading of the Holy Spirit are not even willing or ready to submit themselves wholly. No spirit-led child of the most high would think it is the Master’s plan for him/her to become a renowned beer parlour owner. Please don’t go there!

5. Casino/Gamblers- So many lotto and sports betting businesses have inundated this country. I met a young family man about two months ago who spends 80% of his earnings on betting and gambling. After some minutes of discussion, he admitted that he has become addicted and needs urgent help. He would have been able to make good with all the money he has squandered on gambling and betting since he started about 6 years ago. I wonder if a father who neither runs a casino nor gambles would be happy that his child owns a casino or is a gambler.

6. Nightclub- Dancing, drinking, watching strippers and other performers, chatting, lusting, and so on at late night is not the right way to unwind for a child of God. I ask myself if Jesus would ever open a nightclub or honour an invitation to a nightclub. May God have mercy on this generation where everything goes and nothing matters. Detach yourself from the love of the world and its temporary pleasures.

7. Strippers- Many ladies are trooping into this unholy profession as more nightclubs are springing up. This job requires them to dance almost unclad as a form of entertainment to the clubbers. This isn’t the kind of dance David danced. Dancing naked at clubs is immoral, demonic and abominable unto God. Do not aspire to become a striper or allow any circumstance to push you into it if you truly love God and desire to have a place with Him.

8. Agberos- Agbero in Yoruba language means those who call and usher passengers into commercial vehicles, like a bus conductor. However, majority of those we now call Agberos particularly in Lagos Nigeria, are area boys sometimes affiliated to transport unions. They are the set of people I refer to as ‘beggars who don’t beg for money.’ They extort money from commercial bus drivers like twice or more on daily basis. The collection is not meant for community development but for sharing by their leaders which they often use to philander and acquire properties. This is not the kind of job a Christian should be involved in.

9. Prostitutes- You cannot claim to be a true child of God and still be defiling your body which is God’s temple [ 1 Cor 3:16-17: Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are KJV].
It is unfortunate that prostitution is a legal business in many countries. In a nation like ours where it is not constitutionally declared legal, prostitution is neither treated as illegal nor discouraged. There is more to the spiritual implications of prostituting your body than both the moral and the health consequences. A sincere Christian would never consider prostitution as a livelihood.

10. Violent sports- God would definitely not be happy seeing you incapacitate another of His creature by breaking his/her jawbone or ribs and inflicting serious injuries and bruises on him. There are many extremely violent sports such as Wrestling, Boxing, Martial arts etc where the fighters’ sole goal is to wound or injure the opponent to ensure victory. The heavens will not celebrate victories won by physically battering a fellow human being which may lead to hospitalization of either or both combatants and subsequent permanent injuries or death.

I pray that the Lord will give you a clear vision of what He wants you to do or become that would create wealth for you and glorify Him. Amen.

No matter the excuse we come up with, it is not part of the church's spiritual assignment to be organizing excursions. Christians today would always find justifications for their actions no matter how glaring they contradict the teachings of Christ.

That is why we keep on loosing touch of the 'old time religion'. Compare how many excursions your church has organized with the number of times they have mobilized the youths for evangelism in either distant or even nearby locations. May the Lord help us. Happy Sunday

Excursion and sports i dont really see anything wrong with that, its only a healthy person that can evengalize to the world, secondly some of this lazy people that find it difficult to go to church or even cross the church gate can be easily lured in by sports and gradually they will find love and joy in the sports and that atleast will be bringing them close to God and the church who knows They might by the grace of God step one leg to the main church and might find more joy there........... And excursion, my dear excursions is not bad at all, i have to say this plainly now, if not for our CBO(Catholic Boys Organisation) tins i wont have gone to abakiliki, akwa ibom, benue and rivers all in the name of excursions and enlightenment. It helped me in building my evangelism life across border and characters...... I wouldnt have been more confident if not for that......... Apart from those too i explained here i dont think you can find others in Catholic Church
I love going on excursions too, I love adventures and sightseeing. But you can get this outside the church. It is not a spiritual activity and it has lured some youths to sexual immoralities and other unholy acts in many instances. I do not see why churches would prefer excursions to evangelism. I know a church that has organized several excursions some of which I have attended but yet to mobilize its youth for evangelism of any sort. The issue is that social events has prevailed over spiritual activities in many churches.

It is important to be mindful of activities that would feed only our bodies and not our souls in churches. We should have a life outside the church for moderate social and extra religious activities.

One of my patients bought a 5litre gallon of holy water for 500k from those banner wearing people as treatment for pericarditis after refusing surgery..
He died just after he finished drinking the water.
Things are bad around here
The surgery would have probably cost less than 500k and save his life.
