Th main focus of Govt is to take Govt budgets hitherto drained by those companies channeled now into public infrastructure. You only analyse all these If Govt still has shares in it. NLNG Limited is an example. NLNG is performing at 25% capacity govt still has stakes. If it was fully private with govt hands off operations itll operate at 100% capacity5. |

We Yorubas will not leave PMB for someone who co-spent $16b on electricity YET with stakes in MIKANO.
PDP is dead here. this is the average thinking of the South westerners. Vp slot is an achievement for them. I never knew nairaland has people who can engage in arguments without insults until I commented on this thread and I can tell u I am thrilled by the mature mentions I got. Even though some people disagreed with me, they never insulted but only made their counter arguments on facts. Thanks for ur contributions.
Lemme say this concerning Trump's detractors, they don't understand his methodology because it is alien to their normal ways of doing things and also don't want a change in status quo. The USA is known to use diplomacy in growing their economy through pacts with different nations and it has never given them this level of growth because in any agreement between people, there must be compromise. This compromise is halting the US gradually and it is evident in their debt which has trippled over time.
Trump found the loopholes, he saw that these nations are taking advantage of the agreements and blocked it with his policies, we all can see that their unemployment rate is reducing quarterly. Do u know that as of yesterday China is calling on the US for a discussion on trade? That is the power of having the right policy internally.
Now look at Atiku's statement, it is suicidal because of our over reliance on imports. We import virtually every thing which is unsafe and dangerous to the local currency if the market forces are to determine the strength of the naira. The FX is will be overstretched and we may end up becoming like Venezuela. if you understand atikus plan youd understand the plan is to end importation drastically by producing locally via heavy FDI influx. This MAY(and I quote MAY), over stretch our fx but will guarantee we get production engines on ful throttle..the f2f becomes useless if it will be significantly affected. Free market forces will determine fx. This in my opinion is our best bet now cos the current economic plan is putting is in debt and there's no facet where it will succeed. This isnt Russia or a communist socialist population. |

Now u might want to ask how he does it...dangote has been able to rack up massive foreign exchange through his massive investment abroad, but the sorry thing is that his huge foreign revenue are kept abroad..if there continue to be a good return in investment, coupled with stable exchange rate,he could be encouraged to lodge his monies at home....
Infact,wd all should pray that he finishes that refinery. That is the main hope of nigeria eceonomy like his monopoly in cement and sugar crashed the prices and helped us right. Pls we don't need a monopoly . Floating the naira will ensure massive Fdi. Dangote you're talking about was given dollars by our fg ie given preferential treatment. kingkakaone: Let me answer your Mtn and DStv issue. Both of them built a system before the present uncertainty. They were pioneers in their own sector when the economy looks promising.
No investor will engage in business after looking at the economy in the last 10years.
Foreign investors are very careful when investing in Africa. There are indices that defines their momens in deciding whether to spend or not.
Of they cannot see a 10years economic growth, they won't invest.
Concerning refineries, most investors won't rush into it even though the PIB is passed. Reason is because crude oil is getting unstable and the determinant factors are unpredictable. wow... first of all dstv and mtn weren't pioneers of those sectors...some ppl tried and crashed out. That didn't deter their entrance. As for the refinery analysis...last time I checked 90 % of the world's automobiles run on fuel and diesel to in addition aviation fuel hasn't been substituted. So by projection oil refining will still be very relevant for the next 30 years atleast in Africa and other under developed nations. |

It is has been argued that supply side policies bring about increase in economic growth with little inflation.
Why cant our politicians use this supply side policy that is the hard and self sustaining route instead of the usual attraction of fdi, increase in mpr...subsidy ?

kingkakaone: Brother, let's remove political affiliations in our analysis and we'll see that this move is DOA. Also thinking a VP will influence Atiku and his decisions is a bad gamble because we know how power drunk Africans leaders are. Imagine how Pence has been silenced in Trump's government, that's to show u that a VP has little or no power to influence a regime.
BTW, This move by Atiku will destroy the economy as all foreign investments will be short term and will expose the country to danger when most of the investors relocate their money abroad.
I expected Atiku to talk more on improving our manufacturing sector and other solid minerals to enhance our local currency and reduce our reliance on imports.
Look bro, so long as our import is so high, this move is suicidal. how will the fdi inflow be short term? You'd assume there wouldn't be terms and conditions ...why hasn't mtn and dstv ran away. You fail to realise nigeria is Africa's largest economy by population alone sef. Any company that gets plugged in here has hit jackpot. Why do you think theyre reluctant in building numerous refineries in Nigeria....the pib hasn't been signed thats all that's stopping them. They're all watching and waiting for a law that protects them in that sector. Our govt doesnt even have to sell a single refinery they would build brand new ones in record time. |

humandroid: Nigeria has been defending the Naira through fraudulent means and that is how CBN becomes a pipeline for corruption in the name of 'stabilizing the exchange rate'.
It is time we try something else, let us allow the economic indices to determine the true position of our economy, then we can begin to fund manufacturing and other sectors and end the dependence on importation.
I am with Atiku on this. Of what use is a high value Naira when my phone can not stop ringing from people who need help because of a poverizing economic strategy ?
Atiku is open with his economic policy, Buhari has no knowledge of what is called Economic Policy, so I stand with a man who is vocal about what he represents and ready to face the critics of his policies, that how we should jaw jaw as opposed to war war. yes I totally agree with letting market forces determine our exchange rate ie floating the naira. This is a super incentive for Fdi inflow. |

pacespot: More like saying you want to sell Nigeria back to the colonialists. Foreign investors (especially the West) are not attracted by only the economic environment, they are also attracted by the political environment. China is one of the most attractive and lucrative investment destinations for foreigners, but since Donald Trump was elected president, European companies have been withdrawing their investments from the country.
Buhari administration has made a lot of improvement to the infrastructure in Nigeria, power has been the major bane of economic development in Nigeria before this administration, but today that overhead has been reduced. Taking my area as an example, we now experience a regular power supply for at least 23 hours per day in the past 6 months. The would-be Nigerian entrepreneurs should capitalize on this improvement in the power sector. This is not a political rhetoric, I believe everybody can see the difference in power today.
Our next wave of economic transformation should be industrialization, not by sabotaging our fragile economy to appeal to foreign investors who can leave at any moment. Industrialization will make foreign investors to come by force. With this administration making inroads into rail links and road constructions, these the bases for a real industrial economy.
I'm beginning to suspect this Atiku is planted to mortgage Nigeria for the West. your analysis is warped bro. This would work if we had abundant funding for industrialisation. Nobody can deny we need heavy Fdi inflow to achieve industrialisation status. Don't forget we owe China a huge lot and will not be able to pay with our current expenditure. Our past leaders created a very robust expensive fg that's statutorily backed up, thus the only realistic position is to source for funding from Fdi....ofcourse there would be minimal regulation. Afterall when Obama took over from bush they realised they were in the middle of a war and a recession with most of their industries running to China. The immediate solution to mitigate the crises was to open up their economy for heavy Fri fron the Chinese and Indians which saw gm motors etc sold to companies like tata to name a few. We don't need our fg to take more loans to embarl on more projects cause we simply have more recurrent expenditure than we can service. We need Fdi inflow for now more than ever. Nigeria doesnt have the money to industrialised. |
Politics › Re: Atiku: I Will Risk Inflation To Win Huge Foreign Investments by revolt(m): 8:08pm On Nov 15, 2018 |
I see people that don't understand Jack about economics talking nonsense. Atikus proposal has advantages and disadvantages. Floating the naira with sound deregulation policies will see a heavy influx of fdi. This will significantly increase employment. Naira MAY be devalued but since we hope to reduce importation by massive Fdi inflow( profuction) then a devalued naira wouldnt be our major issue. The Fdi inflow would greatly depend on certain policies like signing the pib to law and fixing power by deregulating and decentralising the national grid to fix power. The most important thing is creating a friendly business environment for Fdi inflow. Commodity pricing may sky rocket in the beginning but id assume atiku as a business wouldn't support monopolies thus competition should crash prices in no distant future. This isnt a bad policy direction as compared to the conservative socialist incline the buhari administration is steering us to. I think a little brushing up of this policy by atiku isnt bad at all. If hes really serious about restructuring then wed assume hed do everything possible to decentralised the national grid and hopefully commercialise the use of alternative energy ...more importantly unite the country and expunge the divisive lines buhari has created via his bigotry. |
