Career / The Leicester City Of Sheer Determination – How It Applies To You! by rexoluj(m): 12:00am On May 04, 2016
Once upon a history in England in the year 1884, a group of old 'misfit' school boys from Wyggeston in the East Midlands decided to form a football team. Without proper formation, history began, but within a space of six years, they had already played at five different grounds which included a cricket pitch, bicycle grounds and a city centre. Alas, the financial difficulties of the First World War finally brought this little known group of boys to its knee. But with a renewed passion, a new strategy was adopted for the same old purpose, to play football. This sheer determination, some 132 years ago has brought them gradually from the lowest ebb of English football to become the 2015/2016 Premier League Champion.

At this point, we should pause to pose this salient question, What is the place of determination in life situations? But before we proceed further, a certain story of the Terranga Lions of Senegal depicts another audacious example of sheer determination.

Prior to the 2002 Soccer World Cup tournament in Korea/Japan, any mention of Senegal on the international sporting stage would more likely have to do with basketball than football. Even athletics was more popular than football in Senegal. However, by some stroke of necessity, a group of young men was aligned, perhaps under a different approach, but yet again for same purpose ...To reveal the uncut power of sheer determination. Gradually, The Terranga Lions qualified for the world cup tournament as one of Africa's representatives against all odds. And so it was official: France, the reigning world champions would begin their title defense against Senegal on May 31 in front of a crowd of 62,000 in Seoul’s World Cup stadium. It would have been difficult for any team at that time – or indeed any in the history of the game – to surmount the power and brilliance of the French National team. But with this same act of conviction, Senegal defeated the undefeatable.

Many more stories in history has broached the impact of consistently portraying a sense of purpose and direction, notable names like Henry Ford, Steve Jobs, F.W.Woolworth, Thomas Edison, Oprah Winfrey have all emphasized that one requires enormous firmness of purpose to achieve success.

The Leicester story is more of a 21st century Renaissance of the old order. Things like this, you don't expect to happen in real life. And when they do, you laud them. You exalt the participants who defied not only seemingly insurmountable odds but all sporting logic. You do something about it so people forever more will know about it. Leicester City Football Club at the start of the season were 5000/1 to win the Premier League - by far, the longest odds offered on any winning team or individual in the history of professional sports. Let’s say it again; 5000/1. Even Kim Kardashian is currently available at 2000/1 to become the next president of the United States. It is on record that Manchester United Football Club have spent more on new players in the two-year reign of their current manager than the new champions have in their entire 132-year existence. Also amazing is the fact that the entire Leicester team cost less than the transfer fee of a young Manchester City FC Player, yet they weathered the storm and soared excellently above all.

As we eulogize Leicester's remarkable and history making Premier League success, it's important to reflect on the lessons that can and indeed, should be learned from this laudable feat:

Hardwork and Resilience Pays
Be Original and Creative
Work under the radar; Let your success do the talking
Believe you can make it even when others doubt you
The Supreme Being Factor (Luck) is pivotal

I remember, Michael Jordan was told by his high school basketball coach that he wasn’t good enough and would never make the team. He didn’t take it lightly, and he didn’t let it get him down. He worked harder than ever! Every night when he got home from school he would go outside and take shots on the net, not just a few, or ten or twenty, only after sinking one thousand successful shots would Michael be satisfied enough to go back inside. He did this every single night. He was committed to becoming the best he possibly could be, and it worked! In 1981, Michael received a basketball scholarship, and, in 1984, he entered the NBA Draft where he was then selected by the Chicago Bulls as their third pick. His determination drove him to achieve ultimate successes in life, with the help of a good set of priorities to overcome and conquer the rejection he faced when his coach told him he wasn’t good enough, he succeeded over all.

Determination is a positive emotional feeling that involves persevering towards a difficult goal in spite of obstacles. If you ever get into a situation where you want to give up, you will do much better for yourself by saying “I can do this,” “I can make this happen,” and, “I can win.” Just the words “I can” produce more energy for your mind, and this will empower you. Life is hard, but only the tough-minded will get somewhere. Everything you want in life is within your reach. But you have to empower yourself to reach out and grab it. There is no comfort in being comfortable. Comfort comes from the strength earned from growing through discomfort. Vacate your comfort zone and gain strength from challenge and adversity. Determination breeds self-confidence. Self-confidence comes from knowing that you have the will and ability to do whatever it takes.

Remember, If you lack DETERMINATION, you get the leftovers of what life has to offer. Go out into this world of limitless possibilities and make DETERMINATION your best friend!

Business / Write Your Business Plan This Weekend With These Easy Steps! by rexoluj(m): 10:45am On Mar 11, 2016
Someone once wrote, A Goal without a Plan is just a Wish!

Being an entrepreneur in some ways is like being a student. You have to do your homework.

So this weekend, You should take out time to develop your ideas into a business plan, It is quite simple, you just need to start writing and you will realise the energy and passion that will arise while putting your plans on paper or a word document.

A business plan is a dynamic document and it serves some very distinct purposes; It gives YOU an opportunity to sell YOU on the business, then allows you to sell others on the business. These two actions avail you a better understanding of your idea, make necessary modifications during the planning process and boost your level of confidence which will ultimately improve your chances of success.

So you might ask,What's the next step? Well, I'll tell you.

Follow this outline below, develop your business plan over the weekend and get back to me so we can discuss funding and investment.

Table of contents –
Page numbers of each section.

Executive summary –
Write this section after the plan is completed. This should be a compelling summary of the plan and how it will work.

General company description –
A high-level description of the product, service, or organization and the unmet need it meets.

Products and services –
A detailed description of the product, service, or organization; how it works; manufacturing costs; and so on.

Marketing plan –
A detailed description of the current state of the market, including competition, your positioning, target audience and how customers will learn about your product, service or organization and the cost to get the word out.

Operational plan –
A detailed description of how you will run the day-to-day operations, including product costs, real estate, inventory levels, labor, credit and so on.

Management and organization –
A detailed description of the principals of the company, including bios, board of directors, advisory board, banker, attorney, insurance agent, mentors and so on.

Personal financial statement –
A personal financial statement for each partner in the business. This is important as business owners often provide capital to start up or support the business; investors want to see the financial standing of the principal individuals.

Start-up expenses and capitalization –
Accurate accounting of the expenses that are required to get the business started.

Financial plan –
A twelve-month profit and loss statement, three-year financial projection, projected cash flow, and opening day balance sheet.

Appendices –
Supporting information such as brochures and advertising, blueprints, leases, equipment, list of assets available, letters of recommendation, and any information that will help support your plan.

Once done, we can move onto the next phase which is how to connect with Partners, Equity contribution, Crowd-funding groups or Angel investors. How about that?

See you on the other side of the weekend, with your-idea-turned-into-a-businessplan.

Have a Business Planning Weekend!

Nairaland / General / Its Only A Habit! by rexoluj(m): 12:15pm On Feb 16, 2016
The habits we cultivate can have negative influences on our lives. Interestingly, what it takes to break a bad habit is simply to do more of the good habit consistently.

One cowardly person came to a master of martial arts and asked to teach him bravery. The master looked at him and said:

I will teach you only with one condition: one month you will have to live in a big city and tell every person that you meet on your way that you are a coward. You will have to say it loudly, openly and looking straight into the person’s eyes.

The person got really sad, because this task seemed very scary to him. For a couple of days he was very sad and thoughtful, but to live with his cowardice was so unbearable that he travelled to the city to accomplish his mission.

At first, when meeting the passers, he quailed, lost his speech and couldn’t contact anyone. But he needed to finish the master’s task, so he began to overcome his fear.

When he came up to his first passer to tell about his cowardice, it seemed to him that he would die from fear. But his voice sounded louder and more confident with every passing day. Suddenly came a moment, when the man caught himself thinking that he’s not scared anymore, and the further he continued doing the master’s task, the more convinced he was that the fear was abandoning him. That way a month had passed.

He came back to the master, bowed to him and said:

‘Thank you, teacher, I finished your task. Now I’m not afraid anymore. But how did you know that this strange task will help me?’

Cowardice is only a habit and by doing the things that scare us, we can destroy the stereotypes and come to the conclusion you came to. Now you know that bravery is also a habit. If you want to make bravery a part of yourself you need to move forward into the fear, the fear will go away, and bravery will take its place.

Have a great week ahead and break the fear holding you back.

Nairaland / General / Never Silence Your Testimony. It's Meant For Someone Else; Not You - READ THIS!! by rexoluj(m): 3:35pm On Feb 11, 2016
As posted by a friend...

First of all,i would like to thank my creator and my Redeemer, who redeemed me from the hands of kidnappers yesterday night..it was the worst night of my life..my hands are still trembling as i type this..I closed from work around 3pm yesterday,so i decided to chill in my friends office cos i didnt want to go home on time.i closed with her around 6pm and we parted ways going home cos we dont stay in d same area..

Trust lagos and it traffic.i was held up in a terrible traffic around Oba Akran road leading to ogba,we were stucked in dere for a very long time.i picked up my phone to return d calls i had missed.so i call my friend and he told me he was in my area and that i shud stop by before going home.meanwhile,i remembered that i left my key at work,so i gave it a second thought to see him cos i dont know if my bro and his wife would at home as at that time and i wouldnt want to go home and wait outside...i called my friend and he told me to take a bike to OLANIYI close, which i did.

Immediately i got there,i noticed the place was really dark so i called him and said y u no wait for ds junction, this place really dark naa.so he apologized and said he was coming out..before i could even blink my eyes,i just saw a space bus parked in front of me and two guys came out with guns, one of them covered my mouth and pushed me into the car.when i entered i saw three oda guys inside all wearing black suit and hats, making them all five guys and me alone..they pushed mi to the back sit and started beating mi.they collected my bag ,my phone, and my wrist watch.and inside my bag was my purse containing 24k inside.they cleared it leaving mi with only the coins i had inside..they requested for my ATM card i told them it was expired they slapped mi hard again.at dat moment i'd lost it..different thought were just flying through my mind.they requested for my ATM card again and i told them the same thing,so one of the guys said in yoruba that o fe ri awon ti e mon abi? meaning that i dont want to see my folks again right?..i was in an uncontrollable tears and i was just praying and asking for forgiveness from God,cos they pointed the gun and said if i dont answer them they ll blow off my leg.i wasnt myself anymore.so they kept on beating me and they told mi to close my eyes and they asked mi if i understood yoruba ,i said no.then one of them said shey ka shey kini yen fun? meaning shud we do that stuff for her? so one of them was trying to unbuttoned my shirt..so i started sreaming that am the only child of my parents ooo that they shud please leave me alone,so one of the kidnappers had pity on me and he told the rest that they shudnt harm mi in yoruba language.but they shud deal with mi ..before i knew it i got anoda slap on my face.so they sed again that they ll take mi to a bush..

On our way, they raided some guys too ,a lady and some people at the filling station, robbed the guys too at the filling station..and we drove off, they pointed guns at the new guys they caught and requested for their ATM cards..they all took their pin number they were asking them how much they each had in their account.our eyes were all closed so we didnt even knw where they were taking us too.they stopped at every ATM machine to withdraw from those guys account and they also robbed anoda set of people at the ATM stand.we were 7 all together that was kidnapped yesterday night.so one of them now sed that the bus is full that they shud look for a dark place to drop us so that they can gt anoda set of people..

That was how they dropped us in an unknown area in abule-egba,and that guy amongst them that told them not to touch mi sqeezed out five hundred naira in my hand.so they told us if we shout we r on our own with guns in their hand leading us out of the car..so they drove off.trust mi i cudnt stop crying and shaking..we eventually found our way to the main road.

Thank God i got home safely like 10pm or there abt.everybody had slept .no one to talk to,i just took my bath and cried myself to sleep.cos i was to be at work 6:45am the nextday(i.e today) ..guess what, i wokeup 6:50 the exact time i was suppose to be in the office..i just flew out of the house,i didnt even take my bath i just was my face and rinsed my mouth...

TO GOD BE THE GLORY ,AM ALIVE TO TESTIFY TO THE WONDERS OF GOD.PLEASE HELP ME THANK GOD ON MY BEHALF..

Do have a wonderful day ahead.BYE

Jobs/Vacancies / My Horrible Experience At A Job Interview Today by rexoluj(m): 9:24pm On Jan 12, 2016
Long story short...

I got 2 job offers. The 1st is a school running crech to college & not too far from home. I was offered a job as the Secretary to the proprietor & to take the basic 3 class because its more or less like an upcoming school.

The other job is related to my discipline; a shopping mall @ Lekki, comes with good offer, luxuries & conveniences but I opted out myself.

The reason i opted out was because I applied for front desk position but on getting to Ajao estate today where I was asked to come for the interview.

I met with the MD & he said he wants me for immediate employment, to work directly with him that he is tired of seeing the girl that works with him.

He said before I can work with him, he needs to know my status & asked some questions like;
am I married or engaged? I sed NO.
He said don't I have a bf, I said yes.
He said how serious is the relationship then I begin to suspect him.I said its a serious relationship.
He now said since am not yet engaged, that its still going to be easy to tell the guy off now than when he has proposed. I told him I don't understand him.
He said "what am saying is simple, I want you to be my girlfriend automatically. A pretty girl like you deserves a man like me but just tell me u will be mine & promise to tell that guy off & get the job with preferential treatment....

Immediately, I stood to my feet & told him the job is not for pple like me cz I will never do what he is asking for & told him gooday.

Dats was hw my day went today
