Shollypopzz:The Yoruba play what I refer to as Safe Politics, they hardly ever put all their eggs in one basket... The Biafra war is between Nigeria and the state of Biafra ... if only the Yoruba's also wanted a sovereign state, they would HV made it know back then. |
It is difficult to say if Igbo and Yoruba are friends or enemies or merely tolerating each other. On the surface, they seem to be friends, because you rarely hear of any clashes or killings between the two in over 100 years. People from the two ethnic groups work together, live together, laugh together, worship together, and play together. Everything seems all right. Nobody wants to be seen as publicly making any comment seen as tribalistic or intolerant. But if you look deeper, there seems to be something you cannot truly place a finger on. It’s like a volcano waiting for the least provocation to erupt. It only needs an excerpt from Chinua Achebe’s There Was a Country to be made public, or for Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos to “deport” some Igbo to Onitsha for hell to be let loose. Commentators immediately line up behind their ethnic groups, releasing venom against the other side. Luckily, such altercations usually end in words and not in violent acts. But on Nigerian online sites like the punchng.com and others, where commentators can use anonymous names, such fights are a daily affair, and they always get embarrassingly nasty. At such times, combatants throw caution to the wind and rake up gut-wrenching jibes dripping of hate and bordering on insanity. You wonder if the purveyors of such vitriol would feel at ease afterwards interacting with someone from the ethnic group they have maligned so viciously. Some see it as fun, but many don’t. They see it as a war that must be won at all costs. Regrettably, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe and Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu, whose direct and indirect action and inaction sowed the seed of hate and distrust between the Igbo and the Yoruba, have died without uprooting that dangerous plant or even denying it water and nutrients. Therefore, till this day, the Igbo and Yoruba still enjoy shooting at each other with accusations of betrayal, expansionism, hate, ingratitude, greed, as well as trying to prove that each ethnic group is superior to the other. And it seems the contest for superiority is at the root of that frosty relationship. The Igbo and Yoruba are unarguably the most competitive in Nigeria. They are the ethnic groups that easily and forcefully ask for the removal of quota system in all national life. They believe that if things are done on merit, they will excel. The Igbo think that the Yoruba are the major competitors they have in Nigeria, while the Yoruba think that the Igbo are the key competitors they have in Nigeria. This shows in almost all spheres of life. The Yoruba had a head-start in western education because the British colonialists and missionaries arrived on their land first. The Igbo, who resisted and rejected the British initially, eventually accepted them and thereby began a sprint to catch up with the Yoruba. And they succeeded. Whatever the Igbo achieve, the Yoruba have an answer to it, and whatever the Yoruba achieve the Igbo have a response. So, if you have a Wole Soyinka from the South-West winning the first Nobel Prize for Literature in Africa, you have a Chinua Achebe from the South-East holding the record of the most popular and most-selling literary writer in Africa. If you have a Rangers International Football Club of Enugu shaking the Nigerian football scene in the 1970s and early 80s, you have the Shooting Stars Football Club of Ibadan shining brightly at the same period. If Rashidi Yekini is noted for scoring Nigeria’s first World Cup goal and being Nigeria’s all-time highest goal scorer, then Nwankwo Kanu boasts of being Nigeria’s most decorated footballer, while Austin Jay-Jay Okocha flaunts his status as Nigeria’s most glamorous and mesmerising footballer. If Genevieve Nnaji boasts of being named by Oprah Winfrey in 2009 among the most popular people in the world, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde will show off her name in TIME magazine’s most influential people of 2013. If P-Square and Flavour think they rock the music scene, D’Banj and Davido smash the charts. So, in all areas of life, the Igbo and the Yoruba are competing, and in the process boosting the nation’s economy and bringing glory to the nation. Yet, some inferiority-complex-afflicted people who feel threatened within each of the ethnic groups look for every excuse to spread hate among the two peoples. My close study of the Igbo and the Yoruba makes me see them as the Germans and the French of Nigeria respectively. Even the Igbo language is like the German language in many respects. In German and Igbo, there are no silent words. Excluding a few words in Germans which are sounded differently from the way the English sound theirs (like “j” which is pronounced like “y,” “w” which is pronounced as “v,” etc), whatever you say in both languages is what you write. For example, the “g” is always pronounced /g/ in Igbo and German and never as “j.” “Danke” and “obante” are pronounced as written. But in French and Yoruba, what you say may be different from how you write it. Some letters are either silent or semi-silent. For example, the Yoruba and the French would pronounce “san” as if it were “saw,” or “son,” but the Igbo and Germans would pronounce it /san/: exactly the way it is spelt. Also, the “h” is usually silent or glossed over in French and Yoruba: Hospital or Kehinde. The Igbo and the German are bullish and technology-minded. They have fought and lost wars but staged successful comebacks in a short time. Conversely, the Yoruba and the French are subtle and supercilious, with good administrative skills, regaling in their years of history and culture. A country that has such two success-driven ethnic groups should be at a great advantage. The Yoruba have been great hosts to the Igbo; and the Igbo have reciprocated by contributing immensely to the building of Yoruba land, especially Lagos State, including buying swamps at a high price and turning such places to residential or commercial estates. The sleepiness of Lagos during the Christmas-New Year period, when the Igbo usually travel home en masse, bears testimony to their contribution to making Lagos lively. Just like the French always wish they could cut the Germans to size, so do the Yoruba to the Igbo, but it will never work. And just as the Germans always try to flaunt their success at the French, so do the Igbo do to the Yoruba, but it is completely pointless. The Yoruba can never be like the Igbo, and the Igbo can never be like the Yoruba. There is nothing the Yoruba can do to suppress the Igbo, neither is there anything the Igbo can do to suppress the Yoruba. Both of them can actually succeed without the other, but working closely together will be very beneficial to each of them as well as the nation. The younger generations are forging greater ties, despite the baggage of enmity the older generations handed over to them. Working together, attending church together and living together seem to have increased the rate of marriage between the two people. Most Sundays when I look at the church bulletin, I see increasing higher number of banns of marriage between Yoruba and Igbo people. These days, it is common to see women whose names are Temilade Amadi or Ngozi Adesanya because of marriage. The ethnic barriers are being broken, even though ethnic jingoists continue to spread hate. Such hate speech and thoughts need to be stopped, for ethnic bloodshed or xenophobia does not burst out in one day. Since the older generations are passing away without bringing these two great ethnic groups together, the onus is on those born after the Civil War to consciously take steps to bring the two ethnic groups together for their own good and for the good of the nation. It is high time this Tom and Jerry relationship between the two ethnic groups ended, for the good of both and the nation at large. |
Dear President-Elect, To kick off, I congratulate the Nigerian people who have chosen to take hold of their fate, the ultimate winners of the election. I congratulate President Jonathan for the grace he has shown in defeat. In truth the President is a good man personally. He could have reneged on his words, but chose to uphold integrity. I congratulate Professor Jega for birthing a true democratic process in the face of unimaginable pressure. I congratulate General Muhammadu Buhari over his victory, however his race has just started. I congratulate Mr. Bola Tinubu for engineering a platform that matched the ruling PDP. Now to the crux. Mr. President-elect, when the world witnessed the Arab Spring that commenced in 2011 we marvelled. Albeit violent and bloody, we, especially in Nigeria, concluded immediately that this could never happen in Nigeria. We said that no matter how bad Nigeria is run, the people are docile, love life and would rather eat the crumbs falling off the tables of our callous political class. What we didn't realize then was the power we possessed as a collective if given a free and fair medium by which we could express that power. We got that power through the PVC and card reader technology. It must hence be noted in our history lores that President Goodluck Jonathan gave us that power and we all must be eternally grateful to that statesman. It doesn't matter if we turned against him in your favour, we did so in the interest of Nigeria. What matters is that he, Goodluck Jonathan, let the will of the people prevailed and we must thus start to speak good of the man. In retrospect, you, sir, must now ask yourself the question: What happened along the way that made President Jonathan, who scored 22million votes in the 2011 elections, lose his popularity and nationwide appeal now? How did a smooth ride get so bumpy? Could it be his PDP Party, their attack dogs and hate campigns? Could the fault be layed at the footstools of people he surrounded himself with, and how non-realistic advisers and non-performers of his Government brought aspersions on his humble and good person? Could it be sabotage or the free reign of corruption in his tenure? Whatever answers you may come up with in your reflections, I am sure you will not be far from "inaction". It is often said that, when good men are not percieved as decisive and proactive they are seen as ineffective. Basking in the euphoria, which is your right to do so after 4 dogged attempts at offering your leadership and service to a Country you are so passionate about, I would rather advise that now is the time to roll up your sleeves and get to work. The work to be done in Nigeria is on a scale of frightening magnitude and not for men of pleasures, but men of grit. First shall we look at a simple analysis of the recently concluded polls. The outcome shows a Nigeria State has been deeply polarised, subtly if I may, along religious and ethnic lines. This polarisation dampens your victory and any crave for an elongated celebration. Sir, seeing that you couldn't win any state in the South East and South South Geopolitical zones of the country is nothing for your party to be gay about. Likewise, we could also juxtapose by looking at the current President of six years, Goodluck Jonathan and how he hardly made any in-roads into the South West and North Central, save Ekiti and Nassarawa states. And he had no victories in the North East and North West, not like we expected much from him in those zones anyway. A conclusion could thus beckon the question: Was the President ruling only over the South South and South East, which palpably are his people by tribe. You also sir, even by virtue of the merger that formed the new beast called APC in our political jungle, your victory can still be hinged on your partnership with regional Stalwarts such as Tinubu, Amaechi, Oyegun, Tambuwal, Okorocha etc. Yet you still couldn't win any state in the South South and South East. Suffice to say we are playing ethnic politics. This is not a good sign in leadership acceptability. What you hence need to do, Sir, as your first effort, is to play the role of a "National Healer". You sir, need to take the pain to re-orientate Nigerians to shelve their religious and ethnic bigotry. You need to heal the wounds that date as far back as 1966. I would suggest you go the route Lee Kuan Yew by banning or ameliorating over-the-top religious indoctrination, proselytic activities and ethnic superiority and favouritism in place of religious tolerance, ethnic unity, intertribal-marriages, meritocracy, good leadership, trust, Government Accountability, equity and justice to all. To buttress my point, we witnessed how the divisiveness mentioned above held sway during the campaigns. Some went as far as saying you were a member of Boko Haram, ISIS and ISIL. Some said you were a Muslim and that they are Christians, and they feared you to be a Islamic fundamentalist. Some said you were from the North. I was amazed also that many didn't think anything was wrong in Nigeria so long as the status quo remained. And for this reason sir, we fought tooth and nail for you. We responded to these propagandas like we were being paid. Social Media became a war zone and a lot of friends turned against each other. We argued in our little corners on what and who is best for Nigeria. However in the ultimate interest of Nigeria, and since you have been magnanimous in victory, we who voted for you must hence proffer our arms towards our friends and foes (of whatever tribe or religious affiliation) and embrace as one Nigeria. Nigeria won. Let me cast light on the fact that we didn't vote APC, though their platform was necessary for your victory. We voted You, the people's General. And now that we have realised our new found power in democracy, we would not hesistate to vote you out in 2019 if you fail to deliver. The needs of Nigerians are the same whether in Ijebu Ode, Abakaliki, Onitsha, Sapele, Jalingo, Daura, London or America. We have voted you, to use your iron hands, to set the new rules of righteousness and progress that would guide the new Nigeria to its destined seat in the committee of nations. It can be thus said that what we witnessed in Nigeria is a people's revolution, through the ballot and not violence, as we voted out the tyrants who vowed to rule us for 50 years. Under the sun and under the rain, some of us were bent that the result would not be rigged against you. A sick old man was carried from his hospital bed to vote and then returned to the hospital. An 82 year old woman was seen voting. Reason, because we believe Nigeria should be and can a better place. And the voice of the people became the voice of God. As we look forward to May 29. As we look forward to a pleasant future set into motion by you and your structures of transformation, we pray with you that your God whom you faithful serve will protect you, keep you in good health and sound mind, surround you with men and women of wisdom and result, a cooperative populace and a repentant and sensible political class. Personal advice: Do your best in four years and leave the office for younger brains. You will be regarded as our own Mandela. God bless you, sir. Sai Buhari. God bless Nigeria. The effort was worth it. By Theo O O

Hi Nairalanders, I have noticed for the past two days a total shot down and desertation of the Oando filling station located along the 3rd mainland bridge while approaching Alapere junction. The look and feel of that part of the road is so unusual, I believe even if there is unavailability of fuel to dispense, the station cannot be this deserted. Does anyone know the reason for this unusual closure? I hope its not related to the upcoming elections... #SayNoToViolence |

Today I did my share in building the nation. I drove a Permanent Secretary to an important, urgent function In fact, to a luncheon at the Vic. The menu reflected its importance Cold bell beer with small talk, Then fried chicken with niceties Wine to fill the hollowness of the laughs Ice-cream to cover the stereotype jokes Coffee to keep the PS awake on the return journey. I drove the Permanent Secretary back. He yawned many times in back of the car Then to keep awake, he suddenly asked, Did you have any lunch friend? I replied looking straight ahead And secretly smiling at his belated concern That I had not, but was slimming! Upon which he said with a seriousness That amused more than annoyed me, Mwananchi, I too had none! I attended to matters of state. Highly delicate diplomatic duties you know, And friend, it goes against my grain, Causes me stomach ulcers and wind. Ah, he continued, yawning again, The pains we suffer in building the nation! So the PS had ulcers too! My ulcers I think are equally painful Only they are caused by hunger, Not sumptuous lunches! So two nation builders Arrived home this evening With terrible stomach pains The result of building the nation-in different ways!" BUILDING THE NATION - Henry Barlow According to the poet, people in the upper class are hypocrites. Their role is to build the nation but they are like pests, who exist only to abuse national resources. They are not building the nation but their own stomachs, the poet says. There is no equality. The poor suffer from lack while the rich and politicians suffer from overfeeding. The good news is that there is a high level of awareness among the poor. The bitter and angry tone, irony and choice of words by the persona shows that those who are oppressed know that those who are on top are destroying the nation. This is important as the first step towards emancipation and development. |
The Nigeria Social and Economic structure is in Omnishambles... Whose fault? My fault as a part of citizenry or the fault of our Leaders who we purportedly voted in? Well, We have all contributed our quota, Of our acts and deeds, we have a Nigeria of our dreams. Though a Nightmare, only our acts and deeds can make it better or worse. Either we Change the Changer or Change the Transformer Power lies with the citizenry, Power lies with the electorates, Power lies with You. And with such powers, you can choose, you can elect, a choice you will be happy you made years down the line. This is not a campaign This is not a propaganda This is not a mudslinging effort This is not a charade of endless allegation This is not a scam It is is a word of conscience, uttered directly to your subconsciousness, Resounding unto your sensibilities and beckoning on your compatriot spirit... A Nine year old girl, Nicole Eniiyi Benson, has publicly read the letter she wrote to the All Progressive Congress (APC) on the sum of about 6,000 naira she donated to the Presidential campaign team of the party as her token for a successful campaign for Gen. Muhammadu Buhari come March 28th, 2015. In a letter the little girl wrote and officially read during the Buhari interactive session with women in Lagos, explained how she saved up her lunch money given to her by her mother just help support the GMB campaign because she feels that the time has come for the much needed change. In her letter, she wrote thus; Dear APC and governor Fashola, My name is Nicole Benson. I am 9 years old. The name of my school is Green Springs School Lekki campus and I am in year 4 peters. I want to be a doctor when I grow up so that I can take care of people who are sick and dying because they take care of me when I am sick. Governor Fashola and APC I was listening to the radio on my way to school today and I heard that we can send money to you to help you to win the election. My mummy said that I can donate from N100 so that we can help APC to raise the money to win the election and remove president Goodluck Jonathan so that Mr Buhari and professor Osinbajo can be the new president and assistant president and be able to help Nigeria to fight the Boko Haram people who are killing innocent children and also bring back the Chibok girls so that their mummies and daddies can be happy. Governor Fashola and APC, please don't you think that N100 is too small? I have the new N100 notes but I am sorry I will not be able to give it to you because I only have one and I want to keep it in my wallet. But I have N5,785 that I saved from my lunch money and pocket money and tooth fairy money. I know it's my mummy giving the tooth fairy the money to give me because I found my tooth in her wallet last year. and I want to give you all my money that I saved so that you can win in February. I have N5785 naira and also N8 but the N8 is in coins and it's only in Shoprite that they gave me so I want to go and spend it there. I wanted to buy my inhaler disk but my daddy has bought another new one for me. I have given my mummy the money and she put it on her card to pay it on your website and she paid it now. I wish I could get more money for you but that will be next week when I get more lunch money from my daddy and tooth fairy can't give me any more money because all my teeth have all grown back. I can still save more money for you and give you in February. Please help me give some of the money to Mr Ambode too so that he can win Mr Jimmy Agbaje. I like Mr Ambode very much. I wish you Goodluck not Goodluck Jonathan but best of luck and please you can call my mummy's number if you need me to send the money I want to save for you. But you will have to give me some time to save it. Please say hello to Mr Ambode Mr Buhari and professor Osinbajo for me. For the record and your information, I, the author am definitely never PDP, but I am not APC either. I will only support the best human beings from whichever party they emanate. I am totally not a political animal; I am averse to democratic politics. The only party I ascribe to as yet and have invested thought and finance in is SNP. So for those taken to lies and slander, you can call me a paid whatever and APC author all you care, you will know deep inside that you do not even succeed in fooling yourself. My people, have never been in power, and I do not care and ever see power coming to my people. Now let’s proceed. There are several important points to be presented here. Best highlighted: 1. Major General Muhammadu Buhari never said he will make Nigeria ungovernable in 2011 in any public format 2. It was a PDP politician, Alhaji Lawal Kaita who actually said Nigeria would be ungovernable if Jonathan became president in 2011. 3. It was Jonathan’s media spokesman, Reuben Abati who sat down and largely concocted the slanderous libel against Buhari’s name in April 2011. 4. General Muhammadu Buhari took Reuben Abati to court for damaging his name. 5. The Jonathan Presidency begged Major General Buhari to settle the case with Reuben Abati and the Guardian out of court. 6. General Buhari obliged and settled out of court. Reuben Abati with The Guardian published an unreserved apology to Buhari in the Guardian of 11 July, 2013. 7. Late General Azazi referred to the PDP “ungovernable” crises and anger that did actually lead to Boko Haram terror franchise hired by the PDP. These are amazing facts which I have been shocked to discover since I paid attention to this matter. To imagine that the PDP can know that Buhari never made this statement and that they (the PDP Presidency) begged and apologized for it, yet all they did was kept Reuben silent and threw out other canines, Metuh and co, to continue right where Reuben stopped, is some of the most sick and evil stuff one can encounter or ever imagine. All this against the elderly, respectable General, because they see it as a fancy tool to generate animosity against their strongest single adversary… as a tool to hold on to power? It is one thing to fabricate a lie against someone. It is another thing to transplant an evil of your doing unto a person who you know is innocent. That is the most evil, evil in the books in my humble view. This precisely is what PDP did and continues to do. Buhari was nearly bombed to death and the dogs continue to utter their putrid trash and invented slanderous concoctions against the poor elderly gentleman. It is frankly satanic. He is such a compassionate gentleman, no joke, if it was me who had all the facts you will read below, I would have been all over the place letting the truth be known and getting the slanderous liars locked up forever. A Timeline of Lies and Slander: Major General Muhammadu Buhari never said he will make Nigeria ungovernable in 2011 in any public format Point number one needs no referencing. I’ve done the research tons of times. Since I wrote my article, “Now that Nigeria is ungovernable, what next,” on the 15 of March, 2014 [ http://ends.ng/?p=679 ], no one has commented and refuted my results. Buhari never in any public media threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable in 2011. That is final fact. Nothing more need be said. It was a PDP politician, Alhaji Lawal Kaita who actually said Nigeria would be ungovernable if Jonathan became president in 2011. It was a PDP politician, Alhaji Lawal Kaita, who is quoted to have said, “The North is determined if it happens, to make Nigeria ‘ungovernable’ for President Jonathan or any other Southerner who finds his way to the seat of power on the platform of the PDP against the principle of the party’s zoning policy.” The big problem was in PDP. When Yar’Adua died, PDP northern politicians wanted power to stay in the north and as such they insisted that Jonathan should not succeed him. It was PDP politicians and only PDP politicians who threatened to make Nigeria ungovernable if Jonathan emerged the party nominee and ascended to the presidency that will make the nation ungovernable, which they did. And Jonathan knew this and know them full well. He eats and dines with them but has watched us die in our thousands and lose our farming land and livelihood whole he has not brought a single one of them to book. He protects and goes to bed with them so long as they focus the ungovernability on the north. One now understand why Jonathan’s best man, former PDP Chairman and now appointed Railway head, Bamanga Tukur famously said that Boko Haram was fighting for justice and another name for justice. It’s an in house thing. Boko Haram became an invaluable tool to be hired and utilized by the party, and to be sustained as a weapon of slander against party opponents. It helped to galvanize votes by nurturing strange harmony in extremists and religious fanatics, especially northophobes who never cared to study the truth. (Truths like- northerners select southerners like Obasanjo or support Middle Belt Christians like Gowon into power; and truth like; why will northerners bomb up their own home-land and purposely destroy their chief resource – farming – to make a point). It was Jonathan’s media spokesman, Reuben Abati who sat down and largely concocted the slanderous libel against Buhari’s name in April 2011. It was Reuben Abati of The Guardian; that our friend, that spun the yarn about Buhari. It was Reuben that sat one dark night and concocted the malicious slanderous tales, rerouting the PDP terror statement to Buhari’s person. Reuben capitalized on our sectarianism, knowing full well that to most of us, one Hausa, or Fulani man was just the same as another Hausa or Fulani(to be more correct) man. Knowing that we had heard the statement made by PDP’s Kaita, and with Buhari’s “Baboon and Gorilla” Hausa adage with which he did promise that if what happened in 2011 repeated in 2015 (note the year), the Nigeria would witness a people’s upheaval; Reuben manufactured a tale one April night in 2011 and published this in the Guardian. It was captioned, “For the attention of general Buhari.” This was the article that was well buffered to make many careless Nigerians jump on the evil and satanic bandwagon of Buhari accusers. I have again fully well described Reuben for who he is and what he did and how he did it, in the recent past. See: “Reuben Abati: Nigeria’s Most Evil Genius?” [ http://ends.ng/?p=1252 ] General Muhammadu Buhari took Reuben Abati to court for damaging his name. Of course, like anyone of us would, Buhari did not fancy this and he promised to take Reuben and the Guardian to court, and he did. Buhari took them to court for libel and slander. ‘Usual suspect’ General Muhammadu Buhari’s lawyers threatened to sue the President of Nigeria’s spokesperson, Reuben Abati in a letter sent on the 11th of July, 2011 for “inventing libelous” allegations against the person of the ex-President, accusing him of instigating post-election violence. The letter was sent on behalf of General Buhari by Harrison Ogalagu for his lawyer, Tope Adebayo. The accusations had been made against him in Rueben’s Guardian newspaper publication. [See: Post Election Violence: Buhari Threatens To Sue Reuben Abati For Libel; SaharaReporters, Jul, 17 2011] The Jonathan Presidency begged Major General Buhari to settle the case with Reuben Abati and the Guardian out of court. This is hard to believe but true. It was in all major news media. The Jonathan Presidency did beg General Muhammadu Buhari to settle out of court. And the noble man that Buhari is; he accepted. When this was happening, many of us read it but did not really realize what matter it was about – that it was about the great tarnishing of General Buhari’s name. It was in different media under the various captions – “Presidency begs Buhari to settle slander case out of court,” in DailyPost [ http:// dailypost.ng/2013/01/13/presidency- begs-buhari-to-settle-slander-case- out-of-court /], and “Presidency Begs Buhari To Settle Abati Libel Suit Out Of Court,” in Leadership, etc. Here’s a quote from leadership: “The presidency has convinced former head of state General Muhammadu Buhari to settle out of court the libel suit he had initiated against the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Dr Reuben Abati. Abati had on page 51 of the April 22, 2011, edition of The Guardian newspaper, written an opinion article entitled “For the attention of General Buhari”. In it, he claimed that Buhari made an inciting statement which led to the post-election violence that rocked some parts of the north. The former presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), however, regarded the publication as defamatory, intended to lower his integrity and to bring him into public ridicule. Buhari consequently dragged Abati and The Guardian to court via suit no. ID/837/2011 and demanded N1billion damages from them. But in a copy of the Terms of Settlement exclusively obtained by LEADERSHIP SUNDAY and filed before a Lagos High Court in Ikeja, the parties have agreed to settle the matter out of court.” But after begging Buhari to make little of it, Reuben just shut up thereafter and the other Presidencies men went right on with the very same slander. Buhari being the gentleman, in fact over-gentlemanly, that he is, just sits back and watches these young desperate people secure their positions in hell for a little penny. It’s really stunning and terribly sad. General Buhari obliged and settled out of court. Reuben Abati with The Guardian published an unreserved apology to Buhari in the Guardian of 11 July, 2013. And here is the post-settlement publication and retraction by The Guardian and Reuben Abati: GUARDIAN Re: For the attention of General Buhari Thursday, 11 July 2013 00:00 Editor SIR: “On April 22, 2011, The Guardian Newspaper published an article on page 51 titled “For the attention of General Buhari” wherein certain allegations were made against General Muhammadu Buhari’s alleged role in the violence emanating from the elections. The publication was based on information which we believed to be reliable at that time. Since the publication, however, we now have reason to believe that certain parts of the story were not verified to be correct before the publication. We assure General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) GCFR of our highest esteem and regret any distress or embarrassment which the said publication may have caused him.” — Editor http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/ index.php? option=com_content&view=article&id= 126723%3Are-for-the-attention-of- general-buhari- &catid=77%3Aletters&Itemid=613#.Ud 6sCDHgyY4.facebook Late General Azazi referred to the PDP “ungovernable” crises and anger that did actually lead to Boko Haram terror franchise hired by the PDP. Of course, we all remember what made NSA General Andrew Azazi a most-wanted and the things he said before he was killed in that helicopter crash. Andrew Azazi occupied the position of the top security man in Nigeria. No one else will be privy to information on the truth of Boko Haram as the head of nation’s security. Andrew Azazi clearly knew and could not take it. He spilled the beans. And he was martyred for it. Boko Haram died when Yar’Adua destroyed them. That was the end of Boko Haram. What remained was some scampering thugs without path or finance. But as Andrew Azazi explained to us before he was martyred; these rag tags “suddenly got sophistication and finance” as a result of PDP zoning and primary power tussles. In Azazi’s words: “PDP got it wrong from the beginning, from the on-set by saying Mr A can rule, Mr A cannot rule, Mr B can rule, Mr B cannot rule, according to PDP’s convention, rules and regulation and not according to the constitution {applause} and that created the climate for what has manifest itself, this way. I believe that there is some element of politicization. Is it possible that somebody was thinking that only Mr. A could win, and if he did not win, there will be problems in this society. Let’s examine all these issues to see whether the level of violence in the North East just escalated because Boko Haram suddenly became better trained, better equipped and better funded, and in any case how did they get it all done…” May General Andrew Owoye Azazi;s soul rest in perfect peace. We will surely avenge his death in the Lords Mighty name. Amen. Truth is, – everyone at the top knows these things. All the politicians on both sides of the aisle know the truth; it is only you and I, the masses who have been taken for a ride here and of course, it is only us who die… well, Buhari almost did. What a shame it would have been had he passed before most of us realized what he had and is being subjected to and are able to seek his forgiveness for participating in the wicked lies against him. These are the facts. Everyone is invited to join this discussion and contribute what they know, so the truth can finally be clearly revealed and the guilty can be shamed while the innocent can be begged for forgiveness while they are still here with us. Let the devil be the liar. “ Their throat is an open grave; they use their tongues to deceive.” “The venom of asps is under their lips .” – Romans 3:13 Dr. Peregrino Brimah; http:// ENDS.ng [Every Nigerian Do Something] Email: drbrimah@ends.ng Twitter: @EveryNigerian |
At least 40 people have been killed and dozens injured in clashes between police and supporters of Egypt's Zamalek football club at a game in Cairo, medics say. Police used tear gas to disperse the football fans during Sunday's clashes at an army-owned stadium in the city's northeast. The Egyptian Interior Ministry said that the clashes occurred after supporters of Zamalek, known as Ultras White Knights, tried to attend the game without buying tickets. But according to fans, authorities only opened up one narrow barbed-wire door into the stadium, sparking the incident. "This was bound to happen," Abdul Musa, a football journalist based in London, told Al Jazeera. "They [Ultras] have been threatening to cause violence in recent events. That's why there was a lot of police force today in Cairo." Musa said Ultras - "some of the fiercest fans in Africa" who are known for violent riots - were banned from entering the stadium on Sunday. "They were not allowed to go in. They tried to force their way in and police reacted violently," he said. Following the incident, the Egyptian government said it had decied to postpone the Premier League until further notice. Previous deadly match In February 2012, a riot broke out at a match in Port Said, where the home Al-Masry fans attacked Cairo's Al-Ahly supporters with explosives, knives and broken glass. At least 72 Al-Ahly supporters were killed and more than 500 people injured. After that incident, the interim Egyptian government banned domestic league football for two years. Last month, Al-Ahly and Al-Masry faced each other in the first game since the 2012 riot. Ultras, who are known for challenging authority, supported the Egyptian revolution in 2011, joining other Egyptians calling for change. Ultras have often clashed with security forces at matches. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/middleeast/2015/02/deadly-clashes-zamalek-football-game-cairo-150208184916816.html |
The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has postponed the 2015 General elections in Nigeria by six weeks. The new dates as announced by the Commission chairman, Professor Attahiru Neva are March 28th - Presidential and Federal House of Assembly and April 11 for Governorship and State House of Assemblies Elections. The rescheduling of the General elections is not unassociated with the security challenges in the country, particularly in the Northeast region where the Insurgent group, Book Haram has been operations and causing terror and unrest to the nation. Mr. Jega said the elections have to be postponed after the nation’s security agencies indicated to the commission that they were not available to support the elections planned for February 14 and 28. The INEC chairman said security operatives agencies told INEC that they were commencing a six-week special operation against Boko Haram insurgents in the north eastern corridors of the country and would rather not be distracted by the elections. |
rafeelly:So much Hypocrisy in Nigeria... This is a sitting President that keeps visiting religious centres o...and he's not considered a bigot. But a Buhari who has not been seen visiting a Mosque or a Sheik is being considered a Fundamentalist. So much we need to sit and think about before any additional comment. |
Now, to my Dearest Single Sisters, a lot of us are missing it today. A lot of us have been seriously deceived and misled by erronenous marriage teachings and lectures of confused marriage counsellors and teachers. A woman was once invited to one of our sisters' conference, invited to come and minister to our single sisters. She mounted the pulpit and shocked us by saying, no sisters should marry any brother who is not materially capable of being a husband. She said she also counselled her daughters to be gather as many materials as possible before getting married; that her daughters must go into mariage with enough self-sufficiency. She ought to have got a lot of things like fridge, electronic gadgets, dinning sets and other things that could make her stand tall as a self-sufficient lady. I told my wife, that the woman would never be invited to any of our conferences again. He teaching was confusing. I heard some marriage teachers taught their single sisters to check the Bank Account statement of the man who come proposing to them before they consider their proposals. If the Bank Account is very lean, then, they need not bother themselves considering the proposals. Some sisters would go and pay visit to the houses and apartments of the men who proposed to them, before they could begin to consider their proposals. A young brother who had waited for almost a year before the sister finally said "Yes", later came back to me after almost one year of courtship, to tell me that the lady suddenly began to ask some strange questions about his projections for the future and what he hopes to achieve and possess in a year's time and what he hopes to acquire in two years' time; the amount he hope to have saved for the wedding in two years. And when he told the sister that he was not sure of the amount he could save for the wedding neither does he have any future projection, but he is a minister of God and she could see all the works he has been doing for the Lord and he knows the Lord has a great future for him as he keeps serving Him. This made the sister began to reconsider the relationship. Then, she said later, that she didn't think they were compatible, because she thought he had no future plans. Meanwhile, such sister would readily believe a lie. If the brother had began to blow an invisible trumpet of himself and began to paint an unrealistic picture of his future for this same sister, she would have believed everything. If the brother had said something like "making a saving that would enable him acquire a jeep in a month to their wedding; and how he would tender a business proposal before an oil company or come up with a business idea that could fetch him some millions, which would afford him an opportunity of purchasing a duplex apartment in Lekki part of Lagos, the sister would readily believe that he had a future plan. She would take him for a very serious-minded marriagable brother. We have come to a strange generation where lies sell heavily than the truth. We are now in a season when our young sisters believe a man by what they see of him physically or how sweetly he could run his mouth by saying big and boastful plans and not by what they spiritually perceive of him. This is a season when, it is the way you package yourself that many sisters take you, even if the fine shirts and suits with shoes were borrowed to be returned later. MANY, NOT ALL. MANY OF OUR SISTERS LOVE TO BELEIVE IN LIES TODAY. Some sisters' choice of who to marry would depend on where the man is working: Bank?, Oil and Gas? Real Estate? Insurance? Constructions? And some sisters' readiness to consider a proposal rests on the family status of the man who proposed: is the family rich and wealthy? Are they based in US or Canada or Germany or Asian nations? Famous and Influential? Today, a lot of brothers love to live on lies and falsehood, because this is what many sisters want. I once read on the Whatsap page of a young brother in Christ whom I happened to know. He wrote under his name, CEO of a Motivational and Purpose Group company and under this are about two or three website of his Motivational Purpose company. In one of his write-ups, I read where he said: One day, as I was coming from my office, I saw....." When I read that, I wondered which office he was talking about, because, I knew him to be working as a shop attendant or sales man in a shop. I look at the picture he posted in his profile, he dressed up like a Director of a corporate organisation, but he is a sales boy working in a shop. These are the type of lies many of our sisters love to hear before they could consider a proposal. What does the Bible say about responding to marriage proposals: Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV [5] Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; [6] In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. A christian lady who would have a great future and pleasant home would commit her ways, the proposals into the Lord's hand. I THINK THIS IS THE ACTUAL SOURCE OF THE PROBLEM: MANY SISTERS CAN'T WAIT BEFORE THE LORD TO KNOW THE MIND OF GOD CONCERNING WHO TO MARRY AGAIN. MANY SISTERS ARE GUIDED INTO MAKING THEIR MARITAL CHOICES BASED ON THE PHYSICAL APPEARANCE OR MATERIAL OR FINANCIAL POSSESSIONS OF THE MAN, AND NOT ON THE LEADING AND CONVICTIONS OF THE LORD THEIR GOD. |
NIGERIA seems to be an exact replica of the allegorical and dystopian novella by George Orwell - ANIMAL FARM Notable extracts from the 68-year old book includes: All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which. Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He does not give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, he cannot run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is lord of all the animals. He sets them to work, he gives back to them the bare minimum that will prevent them from starving, and the rest he keeps for himself. The only good human being is a dead one. Several of them would have protested if they could have found the right arguments. This work was strictly voluntary, but any animal who absented himself from it would have his rations reduced by half. Let's face it: our lives are miserable, laborious, and short. All men are enemies. All animals are comrades Man serves the interests of no creature except himself. Windmill or no windmill, he said, life would go on as it had always gone on--that is, badly. Man is the only real enemy we have. Remove Man from the scene, and the root cause of hunger and overwork is abolished forever. The distinguishing mark of man is the hand, the instrument with which he does all his mischief. Comrades!' he cried. 'You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink the milk and eat those apples. Surely, comrades, you don't want Jones back? His answer to every problem, every setback was “I will work harder!” —which he had adopted as his personal motto. There, comrades, is the answer to all our problems. It is summed up in a single word-- Man they had come to a time when no one dared speak his mind, when fierce, growling dogs roamed everywhere, and when you had to watch your comrades torn to pieces after confessing to shocking crimes. I trust that every animal here appreciates the sacrifice that Comrade Napoleon has made in taking this extra labour upon himself. Do not imagine, comrades, that leadership is a pleasure! On the contrary, it is a deep and heavy responsibility. No one believes more firmly than Comrade Napoleon that all animals are equal. He would be only too happy to let you make your decisions for yourselves. But sometimes you might make the wrong decisions, comrades, and then where should we be? And so much more. The pertinent questions remain: 1. Who are the Pigs, Humans, Horses, Donkeys, Dogs and other animals in our country? 2. In the context of our present day society; Who is Old Major, Mr Jones, Snowball, Napoleon, Minimus, Squealer, Boxer, Benjamin etc 3. What is the conspiracy theory behind this nation called Nigeria and who are those behind it? 4. At what point are we as a country, the era of Old major, Snowball or Napoleon, Who are we? Of course, we know that human beings change. What the claims of personality change or transformation impose on us is a rigorous inspection of the evidence, not wishful speculation or behind-the-scenes assurances. - Wole Soyinka This Article was written in 2007 and I believe both Soyinka and Buhari have changed over time. |
