Good profile .

1. Go to Measure Evaluation, Coursera and other online platforms that offer free certification in global health courses.

It will help increase your knowledge base and improve your CV.

2. Life isn't easy at all. Good to be thorough. Buy as many Tuesday & Thursday Guardian Newspapers you can. Take your time to discover trends in hiring and popular organisations that hire and for which positions. I did this a decade ago. I no longer have to.

3 Check the job responsibilities for the more often cited positions and try to build your competencies around those positions.

4. NEVER give up. Took me a full decade before I got a UN position. Lots of rejection letters - i mean hundreds, no exaggeration. But I didn't stop. Just tried to introspect and improve myself.

Yes.... it's mostly man know man but I got 3 international posts strictly on merit. I got another on competence-based referral.

Good luck!

Thank you so much sir!! I really appreciate

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Did You Cope In A New Job Where You Had No Experience? by Richdee1(m): 1:51pm On Jan 09, 2023
Olumaeme:
I have been in that shoe before and what i did was to study past records and ask questions.
My first NGO job was though. I got it without knowing anybody. Although it was something in my line of experience but the system is way too complicated. To make the matter worse, the supervisor had a candidate that I defeated obviously and he was bent on frustrating me from the first day.

I had a colleague I was to be working with and what i did was fraternize with him, then took him out for lunch that first day since the induction was going to be a week. At lunch i tole him i liked how how he welcomed me that i was nervous when i was coming but he wowed me like he has known me before and i knew it will be very wonderful to work with him. I told him i will really need his help to stabilize and would be asking him questions if he dosent mind, and booom he accepted and to make the thing sweet, he closes late. So i wait and we close together. After everybody had gone home, all the questions i have for the day or all the difficult tasks, i show it to him and boom he will explain to me.

Also, my boss, i make sure i respect him, greet him in the morning and get him snacks or water when coming back and in 1 month you think that i have been there for years.

I am someone who did lots of politics back in the university, so talking to people and joking was easy for me, and also i am not afraid to ask the most ridiculous question. I show people i am vulnerable and most times, they will help.

I got another job and doubled my pay in 1.5 years with another NGO and now became very good at the processes. I entered into the NGO world as an Admin assistant, now i am a Procurement officer.

Two things help me succeeded, 1. Read! (Past documents, emails, organization manual and procedures) 2. Ask questions!

Oh!! This isnl the reply I've been looking for God bless you

Can you help me out, I'm a graduate of Social work and trying to break into the NGO sector, where did you get jobs you applied for?
What and what can you put me through
How do I apply for jobs, how do I plan and go forward

Landing Gist,From Abuja to Halifax Nova Scotia. I left For Abuja Airport on the 22/08/2022 I got to the Airport, I was asked for my Vaccination card, acceptance letter, enrollment letter and passport. I went to collect my boarding pass. My luggages were checked, over weigh,I paid 100 Dollars for excess Luggage my Airline was Air France.
It came to 7:55 We boarded to Paris France. We stopped over at N,Djamena Chad for 1 hour we didn't come down from the aircraft. We left around 11 pm to Paris, we got to Paris 6: am Paris time. We had lay over for 5 hours.
We boarded to Montreal by 12:30pm dot because our flight was delayed for 1hr:30m. We arrived Montreal 1:30 pm local time.
I had already submitted my ArriveCan information and CBSA declaration items through my ArriveCan app, so there was no stress just confirm that my information was true and submitted in less than a minute on the kiosk machine.
I proceeded to the next officer was asked for my ArriveCan, if I carry anything like raw meat as my food stuff, I said no. The young fine girl asked me to proceed to the queue to get my Study permit
the queue was not much, when it got to my turn for study permit, a pretty fine young girl again was the officer, She greeted me with respect and asked for my passport and letter of introduction only printed my study permit and gave me, no questions or queries.
I proceeded to claim my baggages and waited for my connecting flight to Halifax Nova Scotia.

The only issue I had was that immigration gave me 1 month study visa for a 4 year study program, I don't know if the immigration officer smoke weed that day for doing that. when I got to Canada 3 weeks were gone from the 1 month remaining only 1 week, so the CBSA told me they can't give me study permit beyond the validity of the visa on my passport, that I should call the immigration immediately to explain the situation to them to extend my study permit. So I was given 1 week study permit.
I had to contact the immigration immediately they asked me to apply for extension of the study permit online before that one week given to me expires, I did waiting for approval soon. However I explained to the school, and was asked to show proof of extension application,I did. They told me I can start classes. Canada is very beautiful and worth every stress and money spent. I pray that everyone waiting for their PPR shall testify soon in Jesus name amen. Don't give up. Nothing good comes easily.

I am reading this while sitting in a send forth ceremony for 3 members of staff in the NGO where I work. One joined in 2016 through an internship program but replication to US, the second came in on contract and his contract expired after the closure of the project, the third person is a teenager who came for a 3 month internship program. Don't ever listen to the lies that NGO job advertisement are fake. What ever you believe is what you will get. NYSC, internship and volunteering are ways to join an NGO. It's always funny when Corp members come and ask if "we pay Corp members" and I am always eager to tell them "no" even though we pay handsomely with plenty of benefits. All staff entitlement are available for interns, volunteers and Corp members, but we don't want people who feel entitled and who only want to join because of money etc.

Please How can I apply for internship in your organization?
I've been looking out for one

That you didn't get a job doesn't mean its wash. I've worked in that system nd I got my job my just applying online and going through the processes. It is normally stiff yes but there is a lot of merit too especially in the international ones.
Even when they give insiders they have to advertise that is done for audit purposes as its the laid down process
Where did you look online to apply

I disagree. I have a friend who got an NGO job in Abuja last year. It was basically on merit. Though the chance of one getting it without an insider is slim but it's not impossible

What's the name of the NGO?

My brother/sister, you’re 95% wrong on this.
Have worked with over three International NGO without any connection.
Most times, your connection with inside reduce the chance of you getting the Job.
To the best of my knowledge, NGO is one of the best sector where merit work.
If you compete with an insider during the interview, and you merit the job, there is no doubt you will get it.

Where can one look towards for NGO jobs
