domex007: Hello Room, I will be attending visa interview in Dec 2013 @ lagos consulate for undergraduate, computer science, got admitted to UCO, wrote TOEFL scored 66, the company where I work presently agreed to sponsor me, I have an uncle in the US, finished secondary school in 2010, I filled in ♍Ɣ ds-160 that I have an uncle in the US, please I need all the assisitance I can get. I A̶̲̥̅̊♍ confident I will get the visa but I jjust need assistance to prepare ♍Ɣ self ahead. Thanks!Company sponsorship? You have to work hard enough in convincing the VO why this company you worked with would want to spend Millions on your education and what will they stand to gain in return. And also, where is your school located? I hope it isn't that same state where your uncle is. You need to be careful with the above questions? In other to avoid stories that touch. The moment you ticked "YES" on the DS 160 form that you have relative in the US, the VO might want to dig deep into your profile to know if you are NOT a potential immigrant. So you will have to do a very hard job in convincing the VO that you will going to the US to study and will return to Nigeria after your studies and NOT running to the state where your uncle is located and settle as a permanent immigrant there. So you need to work hard enough with your HOME TIES and always try to form the habit of attaching yourself to Nigeria in necessary questions being asked by the VO, where you have the chance to slot that in. |
@Obajamie you'v got a mail bro. |
@ikaboy & keyysur, I just posted available dates @ the Lagos embassy. Isn't it better for you guyz to CANCEL your appointment and book any of the dates I listed above. If you ask me, I will say 17th Or 18th december will be the best date for the both of you, as it will allow enough time for you guys to arrange yourself and contact your school to get the ERROR on your i-20 corrected and Issue you another NEW and UPDATED i-20 and will allow you enough time also for the i-20 to be processed and be RECEIVED to you here before the date you booked. |
Hello House, Dates are Available in Lagos for 6th, 17th, 18th, 19th and 20th of December. Those looking for dates should hurry up nowwwwwwwwww and go book a date. Success! |
Amefrica: Abeg, if anybody should see any december date in Abuja should let me know. A friend needs it. DankiesA friend Or You ![]() ![]() Don't worry, will let you know when I see any available date in abuja for december. ![]() #TeamNeverGiveUp |

gracious17: Gurus; do I need to be contacting the school while preparing for the visa interview. The school sent me an email telling me about the registration of courses. Your advice will be appreciated. Thank you. There is NO harming in contacting your school while preparing for your Visa interview. You will even use that as a medium to take advantage and get to know more about your school, the professors that will be taking you in some courses in your first year, and the kind of courses you will be taking, just incase the VO might decide to dig deep to ask you certain questions in those areas. Regarding the Registration, I don't think that is the main registration, because schools can't start registering students for courses when they don't know whether they have gotten their visa or NOT. The MAIN registration should be in January, during Orientation, that is if you going for the spring semester! But some schools do start doing online registration to students just to ease the process, prior to the large volume of student registration that will be done in January during Orientation. By the way, Pls DON'T let that bother you, Focus more on getting your Visa, that is the MAIN issue @ hand now. Then after you get your Visa, you can worry about registration issues.. Success bro! |
femmoy: Nice one Rozay, keep the good work up and God will favour u wherever u go,i pray u shall reign and be celebrated in Minnesota, just keep the good works up.May the Good lord shower his blessings upon you too. You shall come here with your success story soon. Thanks bro! |
ikaboy: Kessyur, are u speaking my mind? For real am confused her. Won't a mail from the school to correct the error be enough to showcase to the VO?What are your plans regarding the correction of the Error on your i-20? NO, If the VO spots the error on your i-20, a mail from the school won't be enough to showcase to him. The VO will still need to see the corrected changes which should reflect on your i-20 and NOT a letter from the school. I-20 is a VITAL document and all necessary errors corrected or changes made, needs to be reflected on it. It is NOT difficult to get the error corrected, depending on how fast your school responds to emails. You can send em an email first thing in the morning and inform em there is an Error on your i-20 and you need to get it corrected for the sake of consistency @ the US Embassy, as you intend going to the embassy soon. Most schools DON'T take errors on i-20 lightly, most especially when it has been spotted, all they will do is to get it Corrected and send you another NEW and UPDATED i-20 which you would take to the embassy. But I think the school might likely pay for the courier service to ship it down to you since the mistake came from their part OR the otherwise. Regarding the Resumption date on your i-20, after you get a GREEN LIGHT from your school that the error will be corrected and a new one will be sent to you, You can start contacting the US Embassy to seek emergency appointment, you might be lucky to get a date for mid-december. |
obsy2020: i hail una oo, oga imperiouxx, ojab, bigfrancis, rick rozay and all NL members, i say make i greet una again, hope you guys are doing wellHello bro, US finest . I don't see you on bbm anymore. How's studies going? Hope everything is going fine over there with you?Pls bro, Pm me your contact either your email or your New bb pin so we can get it touch. Thanks |
imperiouxx: To correct you guysExactly!!! That's wht I was trying to tell him privately today. Thanks bro for clarifying this out. You are one in a Million. I have already spoken to amefrica on bbm so he should have a polite well of correcting peeps just like the way @Detus and @Kunlebal do correct some issues here. They do that in a matured way. But, anyways, that has been cleared out. He understands now. I think you very right, it's better to get things corrected before going to the embassy, No room for mistakes, so he shouldn't take any chances.. @Ikaboy, I think it is best you contact your school so they can get the error corrected once and for all. Better late than NEVER. Thanks bro.. |
De Tus: @Ricky, something which worked for someone else may not work for another. Some VOs are very curious.Yea, that's true, what worked for someone else might NOT work for him. Anyways, let's leave it @ that.. Let him make his decision whether to go like that with faith or Re-schedule another appointment till January as you guys suggest! |
Amefrica: Do you know the type of scholarship he has? It may be the in-state stuff or the one ur school gives for d first semester(which is small).Even if it is in-state, it is still a scholarship, Atleast it is still better than the ones without any scholarship @ all. The scholarship my school gave me for the first semester, Played a MAJOR ROLE, towards the success of my interview. When the VO heard I had a scholarship from my school, she was impressed, and I told her my uncle will pay the remaining. Before I knew it, she started rounding up the interview and told me my visa has been APPROVED!!!!!!!! |
Amefrica: Hey bro! You got it all wrong. That's a bad advice. Student personal funds should be Student personal funds. No mama stuff should be involved unless it states family funds. Let him reschedule and mail the school for correction.Listen to me, there is Nothing like bad advice here, the boi already has a scholarship from his school, so even with what was written on his i-20, he still has a better of chance of getting his visa. This same issue happened to Nomso27, and he went like that and still got his visa approved. IF he cancels his visa appopointment now, he might likely not get a date for next month december anymore, it be till next year January he will see available dates which might NOT be convenient for him given that his school resumes in january... |
Amefrica: Ghen ghen! what have you been doing since you noticed dis error. You have to cancel ur appointment date and mail ur school for correction. Btw! Were you given a scholarship? How much is it? How much is your school fees?I don't think it will be a good idea for him to cancel his appointment right @ this point, because his date is already close. Let him go with faith. And also, that scholarship he has from the school will play another role towards his interview, it will be an advantage for him. The VOs love to hear students received scholarship from their school. @nomso27, had this same issue with him and I told him what to do a day before his Visa interview, and he went for his interview and got his visa APPROVED!!!! |
ikaboy: from my form I-20 is seems there is a mistake as it is has Student personal funds and Intl student Scholarship. You were given a FULL or Partial scholarship from your school. So what will happen is that, you will go along with your mother's personal bank statement to the embassy, and when you get to the part that the VO ask you, "Who is sponsoring you?" Your Response - I have a scholarship from the school and my mum will pay the rest of the expenses. Simple!!! |
ikaboy: Thanks bro. it seems u didnt get me well as i am yet to be cleared. My sponsor is my mum who happens to own a private clinic. Do i go with her clinic bank statement or her personal bank statement?I explained everythin to you in my post. I think walspring has replied you already. You would be much better off with her clinic's bank statement. But Before I decide on which kind of bank statement you should take to the embassy, kindly let us know what was written on your i-20 as source of funds? So we can know the appropriate Bank statement you should use, so you don't complicate issues for yourself. |
imperiouxx: that looooooooong thing! https://www.mysmiley.net/imgs/smile/scared/scared0015.gifMeself fear ooooo. |
JFK12: @amefrica @walspring,D sevi number start with N nd it 10 digits number,d school code given to me is 6090,university of central missouri. The Sevis Number given to you is CORRECT, that is how it looks like BUT your school code is INCORRECT. I think most school code starts with the first 3 digits as letters and the remaining will be in Numbers. Maybe your school didn't get what you said through the phone, I think you should email em and explain better to em, so they can fully understand. |
JFK12: @house,I jt collected my sevi number nd skool code from d skool as instructed by ROZAY,but code given to me was d same as d skool toefl code,Is that d same code I need for booking my interview appointment ? Was confused and nid house monsters to clarify this for me.TnxYour School code should look like this for example - SPM214*****6058. While your sevis code should look like this for example - N0033****965. The First 3 digits of most school code usually starts with letters. If otherwise, then you need to contact your school back and explain better to em. I guess they misunderstood you. Because I see no reason why you will need the TOEFL code at this stage when you intend hitting the embassy soon. |
Amefrica: ^^^ Who dey obstruct my view for here. This ibadan boi, you are a Case study. ![]() ![]() |
ikaboy: well done Gurus.I hope you are really getting warmed up for your Visa interview which is slated in 6 days time. Make sure you skim through the previous pages of Nairaland and read people's success stories and Denial stories so you should gain and learn things from it and know what you should look at for and also what you should avoid. Given that your visa interview is very close in 6 days time, if I were you, I will start reading from part 4 of this thread, because you need to read more updated formats and questions being asked from students @ the US Embassy so you can gain your CONFIDENCE. CONFIDENCE IS key to US visa interview success. Regarding your enquiry, what is written on your i-20 as source of funds? IF company funds or the company's name is written as source of funds on your i-20, MAKE SURE you go to the Embassy with the company's bank statement BUT if "Family" or your "Sponsor's Name" is written on your i-20 as source of funds, then you will go to the embassy with a Bank statement which has your sponsor's name BOLDLY WRITTEN on it. Pls DON'T do otherwise as I have mentioned, so you DON'T GET DENIED @ the Embassy for Inconsistency in your records. NB: I don't think it is a good idea to tell the VO that your sponsor's company is sponsoring you, because you will have to do a very hard job in trying to convince the VO why a company will want to sponsor you and spend all their resources on you and what will they stand to gain in return. If you can work hard enough in convincing the VO when you use that company's route, then you should be okay, BUT if otherwise, I will suggest you stick with the normal way, which is to tell em your Uncle/Aunty or Father/ Mother is sponsoring you, Even though you are taking any of the above mentioned people's company's bank statement to the Embassy, it doesn't mean you will have to tell them their company is sponsoring, you can still claim any of the above people are your MAIN sponsor. BUT is your i-20 Reads just "SPONSOR" as source of funds, then I must say you are lucky to have what I call the MAGIC I-20. . This is all rounder. . Which means you can use any kind of bank statement, whether the Bank statement of Family funds or Company funds or a Bank statement in your sponsor's Name, they will all be ACCEPTABLE. Because when I went for my Visa interview, "Sponsor" was written on my i-20 as source of funds and i told the VO my Uncle is sponsoring me, and I gave her my Uncle's Company's Bank statement and it was ACCEPTABLE.. NB: The Only Supporting document you just need from your sponsor is his BANK STATEMENT and LETTER OF SPONSORSHIP, But if he still gives you his company's certificate, tax clearance, e.t.c, still go along with it, but I bet you, the VO won't demand to see any of those docs, ONLY your sponsor's Bank statement will be requested from you. But NEVER show the VO any document unless requested. |
mikemillz: @Rozay thanks for the anser but i applied to one of the colleges not university, so do i still need it and how do i go about it, ma visa appointment date is Jan 2nd and is it possible i can sit for such exam and get the result before that time, am a bit confuse here, please helpWhich college did you apply to? I hope it is NOT a 2-year community college? You CANNOT sit for the exam anymore, as the next SAT exam will hold on the 25th of January 2014, and by that period, you would have already gone for your visa interview. Students taking the SAT test in January 2014 are those ones who plan on enrolling for the Summer or FAll 2014 semester. |
Tochium: uwcOkay, No problem. Don't fail to let me know when you need my help. Cheers! |
Tochium: RR,Thanks brother, we give thanks to God. |
suxes2005: YESSIRE !Even before the person starts applying for Emergency appointment, He/she should MAKE sure his/her sevis fee has been PAID and reflected on the sevis website. Because the US Embassy will give you a date @ random and you might Not be prepared by then. So it's good to get everything READY and set before you start scheduling an emergency appointment. |
nomso27: i dnt understand o!If your sponsor has PAID for the flight already without demanding for your Visa page, then you are Good to go bro. Only some airlines do require copy of visa page during flight booking. Even flyemirate airline which I intend using didn't require a copy of my visa page when my sponsoring was making the flight booking for me as well. So you good to go bro. Just go along with a copy of your flight ticket (E-ticket) and your Int'l passport when traveling to the US. Simple!!! |
Amefrica: Lol.. I was up till 2:30am, me I've been battling insomnia ever since I was a kid.It is NOT necessary for em to send him the money down here and he shouldn't mention that to em only if they insist on doing so, because they might assume he wan Gobe their money ![]() for something else other than the flight ticket. . Which might hurt his chances of getting help from his relatives in the US.What he will do is to send the details on his passport and Visa to his relatives that want to help him with the flight ticket and they will go on the website of any airline of their choice and book directly from there. Simple!!! and they will make the payment with whatever method the airline requires. And they will just send his flight ticket to his email address, which he will print out and take along to the airport when traveling. @nomso27, you can do as I have illustrated above. It is as easy as that. ![]() |
. |
JFK12: @Ricky pls reply my PM.Tnx broSorry bro, I tried responding to your PM yesterday but I have probs sending out messages with my Nairaland account. Pls send me a Pm again and include your email address. Then I will get back back to you asap with my other email. Cheers! |
mikemillz: Hey guys do one need a GRE or SAT or GMAT to study in one of the yankee collegesYES, you need the above mentioned exams to study in US universities. Some students do take the exams to secure one form of Financial aid, scholarships, TA, GA, RA, e.t.c from their chosen university. SAT & TOEFL - For Undergraduate studies GRE, GMAT & TOEFL - For Masters studies. However Most schools in the US, like an estimate of about 70% of them do waive this exams for students. Which means you can get admission into most of the schools in the US without taking any of the above test. But the US Embassy will be your Major CHALLENGE as they require potential students to sit for these exams, as it is a medium for the Vo to determine your academic strength and to know if you fit for college and also to know the seriousness of the student and how geniune their intensions are towards studying in the US. In other words, If you don't have the required exams, your chances of getting the US student visa is as good as 50%. It is a 50-50 chance. Many students have scaled through the system without writing the above mentioned exams, but I bet you, you won't want to base all your hope on luck alone as everyone's case is different, what worked for A might NOT work for B and Vice-versa. So taking atleast 1 Standarlized test to the Embassy will make you have a Better chance of getting your US student Visa APPROVED!!!!!!!! |
conyema12: Good morning guys,You can take the Immunization at any health centre in your neighbourhood. But make sure you collect a document or certificate or Card from them as proof that you have been vaccinated from those diseases, so you can show it to your school in Texas.. But make sure you do the immunization here in Nigeria before traveling to the US. It is very expensive to get it done in the US and much cheaper here. |

you don summarize the whole thread from part 1 already.
