Ms Nas: You could get a first class upgrade. My friend was dumped in first class for her NC flight
Really. Wow!!! This is so sweet mehn. I guess maybe they didn't see any available seat in the economy class, that was why they dumped her in first-class, I guess first class was still available.

Ms Nas: You can try and sweet talk them but it depends on how lenient the person at the counter is.

Btw, rescheduling is $200. So it makes sense to just buy a new ticket instead if rescheduling. That was why I bought a new ticket.

If you show craze for them, they'll call airport security. Lol. This isn't Naija

suxes2005: Guys, I need y'all help please.

A friend is currently processing his USA student visa
but we are having problem with his SAT registration.

I have checked collegeboard and the thing is I can't register
from Nigeria through the phone for him.

My question is simple: How do we register the SAT from Nigeria
other than the money order thing been asked for?

Secondly, is it possible for him to write the SAT in south Africa?
He wants to go there for like 2-3 weeks in December ......

Please guys, come to my aid. He's more than a friend to me, just like
a brother and also a member of nairaland !

SHALOM
It is good you have come here to seek advice.

There is One thing all SAT test takers from Nigeria need to know is that SAT is different from TOEFL or GRE & GMAT where you easily register online.

SAT CANNOT be Registered online for students testing from Nigeria or applying from Nigeria.

You can ONLY register for the SAT through their ONE & ONLY representative in Nigeria.

Go on Collegeboard website - www.collegeboard.org and Click on "SAT" at the left hand side of the page.

You will see the part that states "Register" Click on it, then you will see another part that states "International Representative" Click on that as well

Then you select your nationality - Nigeria. and get the location of their office where you will register in either in Lagos or their Abuja office. Simple!!!

You can as well send me a PM if you still don't get the whole directions, will let you know how to go about the process of the registration.

Amefrica: *faints* grin I swear, you are crayyyyy. Convert am to madness? grin you nor go go get choice than to pay for anoda 1 nii.
Me, Pay anoda fee ke. God forbid, that one no go happen, I don't mind paying anthr litlle extra money to re-schedule but NOT the whole amount again I paid innitially for the flight.

If they charge me 10 to 20% of the money I paid for the flight to re-schedule, then I'm ok with that. wink

BUT to think of paying that flight ticket fee 2wice again, is a NO NO. That one na daylight robbery na.

MS Nas really tried to pay that money twice, me wey get expenses to settle when I reach Minnesota, go con dey tink of payin anthr flight fee again, shey na Jazz dem wan use 4 me.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay:
Ms Nas: She actually missed her flight cos she didn't know the difference between American Airlines and US Airways. We were there trying to check her in on American Airlines (cos she told me that's the flight she was booked on) and I was looking at her flight leaving not knowing.
She was lucky, they didn't ask her to pay for missing the flight. But i paid when I missed my AA flight.

The other flight I didn't show up for was United and they didn't tell me to pay again. The lady just rescheduled me, after we sweet talked her. So, I guess it also depends on the carrier.
Wow!!! This is cool. Which means US Airways and United are good then!

And I wanted to actually use US Airways, but they didn't have the perfect timing for me and they were also having lots of stopovers and will end up gettin to my destination - Minnesota very late @ night which I don't want, because I don't know anyone there.

So I settled for Sun country airlines. Got a Non stop flight with No stopovers and will get to Minnesota from JFK NewYork in just 2 hours.

I just pray those ones will reschedule me for free just incase I miss my flight like they did to your friend. I no fit let my $189 waste oooo.

IF I miss my flight, I will sweet talk em thru it like the way you did, wink but if that method no work, then I will convert to madness. gringrin
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay: 6:58am On Nov 18, 2013
Ms Nas: Yes you can get a flight at the airport. But that's subject to availability of seats on the flight.

Chances are, the route may be one with heavy traffic. That means fewer seats left to buy. Its a 50-50 chance.

My friend missed her flight to North Carolina and the girl stayed at the airport for almost 6hours. Cos there were no empty seats to put her in, on subsequent flights. On another side, I have deliberately missed my flight because the time it was scheduled for wasn't convenient for me and I know I'd always get a seat on subsequent ones. The human traffic on these routes determines if you'll get a seat or not.
Your friend that missed her flight. Did she pay a little extra fee to re-schedule OR did they charged her the price of the FULL fight ticket when she re-scheduled again?

And also which airline did she use?

blackbee: Ricky Rozay and others in the house..
My interview is like in 3 weeks and I have not written any standardized test because of this latest ETS ban on Nigeria.. But my school waived all these test for me. Does anyone think its a good idea to go without any of those tests? Besides, I have already told my school to send me a letter that stands for the waiver.. You guys have really helped me especially Ricky Rozay... No one wants to go to the Yankee Embassy twice, I'm really going for it with one shot. I need your advises like water...
My brother, I think Mandybaby2007 has said it all. You know I told you yesterday about the importance of taking Standarlized test to the Embassy, because it portrays one as a GENUINE and serious student.

Assuming you informed us earlier here like about 2 months ago, you would have been able to meet up for the SAT test which held this month on the 2nd of November.

So considering the fact that your interview is just around the corner, like in a few weeks time, and there is No much time for you to take the SAT anymore, since the next SAT text is scheduled to hold in January 2014.

I will advice you go with faith and pray for the best. God's favour is all you need.

But Pls go with a Waiver letter from your school stating you were exempted from taking the SAT or TOEFL due to your brilliant performance in your WAEC and you also mix this response with that your suggestion you gave me yesterday night.

mandybaby2007: Its American Airline, they even have a flight for $83 all depends on the time, even if they charge $50-$100 for luggage twil stil be cheaper dan paying direct from lagos-minnesota. For dose already in the states or those that have been there before, abeg how long does the whole POE clearance, luggage clearance etc take? my Lagos-Chicago is ariving 5:50pm, wil i b able to make an 8pm local flight chicago-minnesota or i should push it to 9pm or last flight of 10pm, i no wan miss flight and i no wan over stay for airport doing nothing but waiting at the waiting lounge. does clearance take hours or minutes?
American Airlines, that is Cool.

Although I have NOT been to the US before neither have I been there before but can offer to talk you through this and give you my own suggestion;

It is better to wait longer @ the airport than for you to miss your flight. When you miss your flight, some airlines will make you forfeit your flight ticket payment depending on the terms and conditions of the airline OR they will charge you an additional fee to re-schedule your flight to a later time, which you didn't bargain for.

You know how it is with all this airlines, One can never predict em, anythig can happen and they cancel flights alot and they also do experience much flight delays, so it is better you allow enough time for any delays and immigration clearance, and the minimum number of hours you should try to give should be ATLEAST 4 hours and above.

So since your flight from Lagos to chicago will Land @ Chicago @ 5:50pm. It will be much better and Realistic to book your Next local flight from Chicago to Minnesota by 10pm. Just to be on a safer side and allow enough time for immigrations and POE.

After all, waiting for 4 hours won't kill you. grin It will even give you much time to observe the environment and see what chicago has to offer b4 u head to my Town. grin grin Minnnnnneeeessssotaaaaaaaaa!!!! gringringrin

imperiouxx: Well, you should be able to do it. Like right now, I'm writing this long boring dissertation but taking break by checking NL.

Sometimes, it's like pain in the neck coming here and keeping up with classes.
But I must really commend your effort, you are really trying, coming up here on NL, even with your very busy schedules in the Lab.

Among the peeps on here that have traveled to Obamaland, I think you are the most frequent person I see on here. It's like you even here almost everyday and hour.

Depending on my schedule, Who knows, when I get to the US and start attending classes by January 2014, I might not be checking here as frequent as you do!

Great Job Boss!
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay: 10:24am On Nov 17, 2013
mandybaby2007: @akay_47 nd Kunlebal, cheap flight depends on when u r traveling, diff days has diff prices, do not book ur flight thru 3rd part website like wakanow, u could use dem 2find cheapflight(i used kayak.com) when you do, u go 2d airline website direct nd book, ur best bet is to land in NY or Chicago(ORD) den pick anoda flight to ur state, i got Turkish airline $815 to ORD nd a local airline frm ORD-minnesota@ $100, when making your choice also pay close attention to flight tyme o if u no want pass out frm journey b4 u reach Obamaland. So basicaly u can use wakanow, kayak nd co to find cheapest flights but don't use dem 2book, book directly frm d airline website 2avoid stories that touch.
#True Talk. IF only Kunlebal knew what Flynbird went thru in the hands of this so called wakanow agents, then wen he hears their name, he will make a run for his money.

Your flight ticket to Minnesota is quite cheap $100, that's a good deal. Which airline is that? And are you sure they won't charge you for baggages.

Because if you are charged for baggages, the total amount for the flight would be rounded up to like $150 to $180.

If you intend making changes to the 4 schools on your list, you can easily do that on your collegeboard account.

But if you intend adding additional schools to your list, you need to contact the office where you registered, they will be able to get it Done for you.

Collegeboard, DON'T accept credit card payments from applicants from Nigeria even when one wants to register for the SAT test, one has to go to the ONLY GENUINE representative of SAT in Nigeria, which you just made mention of and register in their office..

TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay:
blackbee: Is it possible to do a voluntary job for a period of 2 years and above? I think that would funny to them.. Just saying.
Can I say my salary is very low and I was just working there to gain the experience while I wait to further my education... Something like that.. PM me your contact details..Please..
YES, it is possible to say you were working with the company for 2 yrs and it was voluntary.

2 years is NOT much. Assuming it was 5 years and above, it will be funny to say it was voluntary.

But if asked about your income by the VO, you should also inform him/her that, Although your services was Voluntary as you agreed to offer it for FREE as you were NOT been paid, but you do receive some tips/incentive from your employer. Simple!!!!!

The reason why I want you to use this method, is to make the VO think that you didn't get paid because you don't have a degree and assuming you have a Bsc degree from a US university, then you will be HIGHLY PRIZED and be WELL PAID. You get the Logic...

You will be contradicting things for yourself if you tell the VO you were earning while working in the company and you were still there to gain Some working experience and vitals skills needed to advance in your career aspiration. You can see that response doesn't make sense.

But assuming you put this way, that you were NOT earning while working in the company as your services was voluntary as you were there to gain some vital skills needed for you to develop expertise in your chosen field, pending when you gain admission into the University to pursue your Bsc degree. You can see this response sounds better and much acceptable. It makes sense. The VO will actually know you were NOT been paid because you were yet to obtain a Bsc degree from the university. Simple!!!

Another reason why I don't want you to say you were getting paid while working is because the VO might ask to see proof of your income - Payslips, which you might NOT be able to provide, but although they hardly ask for documents, but it's better you place yourself @ a much favourable corner, Besides, my suggestion seems pretty better. It sounds good in the ears.

Read Walecrysler interview experience below; and see yourself.

www.nairaland.com/1482362/general-u.s.a-student-visa-enquiries-part5/65

He used the same Method and the VO didn't make any reference to it because he was okay with the response and he understood him Once, even when you say something like that, they will see you as a straight forward and honest person. I even know of some peeps on previous pages of NL that used that response and scaled through.

Also, let me let you know that, those Vos are NOT fools, they know a NON Bsc Holder cannot be earning well here in 9ja with this current economic meltdown we dey face...
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay: 10:18pm On Nov 16, 2013
blackbee: You're the bomb. I'm gonna just do that.. I could say I was retained by the company I did my IT with.. Maybe that would help. Let me know if this idea is wrong.
#GBAM!!! You just hit it right on the head. Perfect!!! That is a very perfect idea.

Also, if I were you, If asked about your income, I will let the VO know that I'm NOT earning while working as your services were voluntary, because you were there to gain the conceptual skills needed to develop Expertise in your chosen field pending when you gain admission into the University to pursue your Bsc degree, as getting a Bsc degree will make you highly prized in the company when you return to take up a suitable position in the company.

imperiouxx: Sure, I know of few who got it with that age range but they have OND and jobs that cover the gap.
Exactly!!!! I'm a living testimony to that, so also Walecyrsler scaled thru with that strategy too.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay: 9:25pm On Nov 16, 2013
blackbee: I finished my Secondary School in 2005, got into the Polytechnic in 2007 finished my OND in 2009, did one year IT, in 2010 then I decided not to continue education in Naija. Please advise and tell me if that's a good enough story to tell.
Looking at the highlight of your write-up, I can say you have almost closed the gap.

Just look for a company you can claim you worked with for the period of 2011 to 2013. Simple!!!!

Also, the company you will claim you worked with must be Related to your academic Major you intend pursuing in the US.

Also back it up with an Employment letter and Study leave letter from the company just in case the VO demands to see proof of Employment. But the Vos hardly ask for documents.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay:
Graviton: thanks, how much do you think 2 additional schools are going to cost?.

.. and how do I pay?
The cost ranges from about $31 - $41 for additional score report. Check the collegeboard website I gave you, you will see enough details there.

Regarding the payment, Where did you register for the SAT?.
TravelRe: General U.s.a (student) Visa Enquiries-part5 by RickyRozay: 5:03pm On Nov 16, 2013
Graviton: Hey, guys

Does anyone know how one can possibly add more schools to his SAT report card recipients list.

My exam is on the 7th of december
Go on collegeboard website -

www.collegeboard.org

Click on "SAT" @ the left hand side of the homepage.

After that, You will see a part that says "My Organizer"

Then, Login in to your account with your username and password, If you don't have a username and password, create one on the spot so you can be able to do the required things you need.

Then, you will see different icons, Click on the one that says select score choice.
But since you are adding more than 4 schools, then you will be charged for the extra schools you added.

NB: You can select up to 4 schools for FREE, that is if you do that before the SAT test, But after the SAT test, if you make any changes to your score choice OR add additional schools to your list, it will incur some extra charges.

Exactly!!!! He needs to know that there are more than a thousand uni's in the US, and no matter how you think your school is the best, just have it @ the back of your mind that there are still schools better than it.

I actually thought you know him personally as per padi padi tins. Then I think he should drop the name of his school here, so we can help him run a check on the school. Who knows he might be saving himself and other prospective students too.

Don't know the school he got admitted into?

And hope he took a standarlized test. Because I didn't see much info from his post..

Congrats. Walecrysler. I must really compliment your Commendable efforts.

Just take a look @ the way you SMASHED your Visa interview. You are so on point!!!!

Let me tell you something, The reason why the VO issued you that Visa even @ that age of yours is because the VO didn't see you as a Potential Immigrant. He saw you in a different perspective.

The VO saw you as a man with an ambition and you REALLY showed so much signs of a GENUINE STUDENT. And you most especially demonstrated strong HOME TIES in the question where neccessary!

Everything were all spotted in your Interview transcript. You must be very smart and Intelligent. Keep it Up!!!!!

Welcome to Minnesota! gringrin

Make sure you stick to the VO's advice. Come along with a Winter coat when coming in December!!!

Thank God I already have one I got from my sis grin
