President Muhammadu Buhari has given more
insights on the extent of corruption in the country’s
oil sector under the administration of former
President Goodluck Jonathan.

He spoke on Tuesday while reacting to questions
from members of Nigerians In Diaspora
Organisation (NIDO) in the United States and
Canada at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC.
According to him, “250,000 barrels per day of
Nigerian crude were being stolen and people sell
and put the money into individual accounts,”
adding that the United States and other developed
countries “are helping us to trace such accounts
now.”

” We will ask that such accounts be frozen and
prosecute the persons. The amount involved is
mind-boggling. Some former ministers were selling
about one million barrels per day.
” I assure you that we will trace and repatriate such
money and use the documents to prosecute them. A
lot of damage has been done to the integrity of
Nigeria with individuals and institutions already
compromised,” Buhari stated.

Citing the example of the Nigerian National
Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), President Buhari
said unlike what obtained during his tenure as
Federal Commissioner for Petroleum under military
regime when the NNPC had only two traceable
accounts before paying oil proceeds into the Central
Bank of Nigeria (CBN), “now everybody is doing
anyhow.”

The President, who expressed skepticism on the
existence of oil subsidy, said if subsidy was
removed, transport, housing and food prices would
go out of control and the average worker would
suffer untold hardship.

What is believed to be the world's oldest fragment of the Quran has been found at the University of Birmingham.

The manuscript of the Muslim holy text were found in the university's library and are believed to date as far back as 1,370 years.

Radiocarbon analysis dates parchment on which the text is written to the period between 568CE and 645CE - around the time the Islamic Prophet Muhammad is believed to have lived - with 95.4% accuracy.

The tests carried out by the University of Oxford places the two parchment leaves as possibly the oldest surviving text of the Quran.

The manuscripts consist of parts of Suras [chapters] 18 to 20 of the holy book, written in an early form of Arabic script known as Hijaz. The pages were mistakenly kept with the leaves of a similar Quran, which only dates back as far as the seventh century.

The pieces of the Koran are part of the University's Mingana Collection of Middle Eastern manuscripts, held in the Cadbury Research Library.

Susan Worrall, Director of Special Collections (Cadbury Research Library), at the University of Birmingham, said: "The radiocarbon dating has delivered an exciting result, which contributes significantly to our understanding of the earliest written copies of the Quran.

"We are thrilled that such an important historical document is here in Birmingham,the most culturally diverse city in the UK." Dr Muhammad Isa Waley, Lead Curator for Persian and Turkish Manuscripts at the British Library, described the discovery of the Quran fragments as "news to rejoice Muslim hearts".

The Prophet Muhammad is generally thought to have lived between 570CE and 632CE, meaning the manuscript found at the university could date back to the founding years of the Islam religion.

ALLAH (swt) did not copy any pagan act or worship. Every ritual performed in pilgrimage has its origin from prophet Ibrahim (as) and his household. And down the line, generations practised the ritual, but the value of the origin and referring it to the true GOD was lost, hence they replaced the same and other fabrications in dedication to their idols. If you ask the then arab pagans about how they came about their worship, they will tell you they met it from their fathers. ALLAH as they knew from Ibrahim (as) is referring to GOD, but because the generation had relegated to idol worship and they heard the name from their fathers, they made a statue.

The idols and these fabrications are what Muhammad (saw) came to destroy and retain the original symbols and practice for ALLAH (swt) alone. I hope this helps sire - (golpen)

Narrated Ibn Abbas (radhi Allahu anhu):Ismail's mother went on suckling Ismail and drinking from the water (she had). When the water in the water-skin had all been used up,she became thirsty and her child also became thirsty.She started looking at him (i.e. Ismail) tossing in agony.She left him,for she could not endure looking at him,and found that the mountain of Safa was the nearest mountain to her on that land.
She stood on it and started looking at the valley keenly so that she might see somebody,but she could not see anybody. Then she descended from Safa and when she reached the valley,she tucked up her robe and ran in the valley like a person in distress and trouble,till she crossed the valley and reached the Marwa mountain where she stood and started looking, expecting to see somebody,but she could not see anybody.

She repeated that (running between Safa and Marwa) seven times.The Prophet said:This is the source of the tradition of the walking of people between them (i.e. Safa and Marwa)[Sahih Bukhari Book# 55, Hadith# 583].
