onochurch: Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio faces criticism over leadership.
...as Prince Saviour Iche reiterates on Senator Akpabio's key roles
By Naomi Onome
Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, founder of Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF) and president of 'The Voice of the Voiceless Media', criticises Nigerian senators led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio for their ineffectual leadership and lack of transparency since they were elected into office in 2023.
He said the Senate is known to employ the use of a check and balance mechanism to address the excesses of the Federal government. However, some ill-managed cases are addressed in the public hearings during their plenary meetings, causing resentment among the masses, such as the issue of Natasha, a controversial figure that has been a contentious topic in the Senate for months.
He further said,
"It is frustrating that the Nigerian Senate and specifically Senator Godswill Akpabio would make public hearings only to discuss Sen. Natasha's case all the time as if we no longer have other issues to address. The perceived lack of tangible achievements and the focus on certain issues like the Natasha case, which seems to be dominating discussions, is totally absurd."
Highlighting a couple of key concerns, it is pertinent that,
"There is a lack of checks and balances; the Senate isn't effectively exercising its oversight role over the Federal Government, leading to unchecked decisions and bills passing without sufficient scrutiny."
"Discussion of national issues, which includes important matters of national interest, including budget considerations, security issues and other concerning issues, should be addressed during these meetings, not irrelevant discussions that have no positive impact on the nation."
"Nigeria's Senate is a check and balance mechanism, allowing the Senate to regulate the Federal government's excesses. However, some bills already pass even before their reading as long as they are from the federal government, leading to issues; some cases should go to public hearings for public scrutiny, besides the three tiers of government, since they have remained dormant and irresponsive in functionality."
"There is a disconnect with the masses; Nigerians are critical about the Senate's engagement with the public and policymaking that benefits the people. Unfortunately, in recent times the public hearings aren't representing the masses effectively."
"I specifically criticise Senator Akpabio's leadership in the Senate; it is disappointing and frustrating with reference to past controversies with EFCC, where immunity covered his excesses. At this point, his leadership purpose is not useful to Nigerians; it is suggested that he consider resigning to preserve what's left of his reputation."
"Nigerians are looking for tangible policy achievements or actions from the senators to show they're representing the people's interests instead of prolonged focus on the Natasha case and the perceived shortcomings in governance."
"The Nigerian Senators could convey public hearings as related to the welfare of the masses to show they're representing them, based on the concerns of critiques, something to show that 'they're committed to transparent governance, actively engaging with Nigerians on critical policies, and holding the executive accountable for the benefit of all Nigerians.'"
Senator Godswill Akpabio is being urged to resign to preserve his respect. Despite being a governor for eight years and a minister during the last administration, Akpabio has been making errors and is being questioned about his tenure. Iche, in his summation, emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the Nigerian political landscape.
Person wey him problem na upuehhh. What do you expect from him? Akpabio should have been the no. 1 person to put this government in check but it's unfortunate that someone like him is heading the Senate.
ibabz: How exactly did you arrive at these statistics? Do you genuinely believe any southern candidate can defeat Tinubu in 2027? You might need to reassess your data. At the moment, there are three major contenders from the South but only one from the North. What does that signal? The northern bloc is preparing to consolidate behind a single candidate, while the South is set to split its votes among three gladiators.
Historically, the North has always delivered the largest share of votes in Nigeria, and I don’t expect that to change in 2027. If Atiku manages to secure even 70% of the northern votes, while the southern gladiators divide the southern votes in a rough ratio of 60:30:10, Atiku’s path to victory becomes very straightforward.
The real swing factor will be the choice of running mates, that will determine how much support each candidate can attract from outside their regional base. Don’t you think so?
What do you mean by do you think any southern candidate can defeat tinubu? Which other southern state did Tinubu Genuinely win? Aside his south western States?

Daejumong: ‘No argument with my wife in 17 yrs of marriage’- Pastor David Oyedepo Jnr.
Having arguments in marriage can actually be healthy!
Why Arguments Matter in Marriage 1. They Build Trust -When couples argue respectfully, they show that it’s safe to express disagreement.Over time, this builds emotional security and openness
2. They show Hidden Issues • Arguments often reveal concerns that have been hiding beneath the surface.Addressing these early prevents issues from growing• It is better to release tension than let it explode later.
3. They Promote Honesty • In conflict, people often speak their raw truth. This can lead to better understanding and connection.
4. They Improve Communication Skills • Learning to argue well—without yelling or shutting down—teaches conflict resolution.
5. They Strengthen the Bond • Working through disagreements shows commitment• Couples who resolve conflict together often feel more united afterward.
6. They Establish Boundaries • Arguments clarify what’s okay and what’s not. • They help couples define personal limits and mutual expectations
“A little conflict can build trust, so approach disagreements with respect to grow closer”

Subject: Urgent Attention Required: Undemocratic and Unconstitutional Actions by Senator Godswill Akpabio
Dear Sir/Madam,
I write to formally draw your urgent attention to a matter of grave concern regarding the ongoing attempt by Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Nigerian Senate, to undermine the democratic mandate of the people of Kogi Central.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, duly elected by the citizens of Kogi Central in the 2023 general elections, completed a six-month suspension imposed for alleged insubordination. There have been no new infractions committed by Senator Akpoti since her suspension. Yet, Senator Akpabio has taken unconstitutional measures to bar her from resuming her legislative duties, citing procedural pretexts. This is not only a violation of the Nigerian Constitution but a breach of the democratic rights of hundreds of thousands of Nigerian voters.
It is evident that this action is part of a broader strategy to use personal influence and entrenched political networks to consolidate power, suppress dissent, and trample on the principle of representation. By attempting to extend punishment beyond its legal limit, Senator Akpabio is effectively violating the principle of double jeopardy, which forbids multiple punishments for the same alleged misconduct.
This conduct constitutes a serious affront to democratic norms and, under global human rights standards, may amount to acts that traverse into treasonable offenses, particularly where elected officials and the electorate are being systematically disenfranchised. In light of these developments, we urge your offices to: 1. Publicly express concern over the obstruction of Senator Akpoti’s constitutional mandate. 2. Consider the suspension or revocation of visas for Senator Akpabio, his immediate family, and any individuals found to have participated in these unconstitutional actions, in accordance with international norms on democracy and human rights. 3. Monitor and report any further actions that seek to undermine democratic representation in Nigeria.
The Nigerian Constitution vests sovereignty in the people, and no legislative chamber or individual can supersede that mandate. International scrutiny is essential to ensure that Nigeria’s democratic institutions are not hijacked by personal ambition or political vendetta.
We trust that your offices will treat this matter with the urgency and seriousness it demands. The people of Kogi Central, and indeed the Nigerian populace, cannot be silenced without consequence.
Sincerely,
Malali, Concerned Citizen.
Akpabio is feeling like a demigod. Make him no worry, na him time.

dominique: It has not been confirmed yet that he's dead. Sadly America happened to him . The gun control bill American senators and congressmen are unwilling to pass will always come back to haunt them.
Lalasdiva: Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has launched a fresh attack on 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi Omokri explained the reason Obi allegedly resumed public engagements after taking some days to rest following a doctor's advice. FCT, Abuja - Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, said the 2023 Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, returned to public engagement to politicise the recent killings in some parts of the country.
Omokri said that while Obi has condemned the killings in Nigeria, he has refused to comment on Simon Ekpa’s conviction by a Finnish court. Peter Obi, who told us he was sick, came out of retirement to politicise the recent killings in some parts of the country. He said the deaths upset him. But curiously, this same Peter Obi has not said anything about the conviction of Simon Ekpa by a Finnish court." Omokri stated this via his X handle @renoomokri on Tuesday, September 8, 2025 He quoted the Finnish court to have saying Ekpa was directly responsible for many deaths through terrorism in the Southeast.
He chooses not to comment to condemned any evil happened in the southeast, rather he must condemn anything outside his region, Nigerians are aware of this.
If Peter Obi has recovered enough from his sickness to play politics, please can he tell us why the deaths in Borno bother him, but the massacre caused by Simon Ekpa in Igboland does not appear to concern him? “That is Peter Obi's regular trademark. If it happens in Igboland, Obi will suddenly become deaf, dumb, and blind. But if it occurs in the North or Southwest, Peter Obi will dance naked in public like a madman.
He chooses not to comment to condemned any evil happened in the southeast, rather he must condemn anything outside his region, Nigerians are aware of this. The southeast people are just too funny, I do not know if they enjoyed sitting at home on Monday while other states rank in millions, instead of them to call out Peter Obi to talk about the insecurity affecting them, they are busy focusing on Lagos while their state wallows away.
The only man that gives them something to talk about. Okwute the great.
We need someone to scatter South South. Let there be division here as well. Since all of una dey mad. Let's see where the bulk votes will come from aside South West
A President that doesn't know anything about what his people are passing through. He has absconded to a foreign land. Yet, his people are dying, he doesn't care.
helinues: I am actually curious about somethings..
Under this government, most of the sectors and institutions are now independent..Should we still be blaming the presidency for some things.
The insecurity in North, starting from the NSA Ribadu who is from the North, Governors, to the Senators, HOR members, HOA members, Emirs, group leaders etc.
Please what's their own responsibility in the killings here and there in North lately?
Can you imagine this dude?
Like you have the audacity to create a thread and post this? What's wrong with some of you?
