BondRiv: Keep quiet. Some of you don't appreciate the doctrine of separation of powers and the principles of checks and balances because you are used to rubber-stamp assemblies. The governor should wait for a reply, if he sent a letter. He had 48 hours to present the budget, but let his ego run wild as it has done so far.
Thescrutinyng: Despite being members of the class of '99 governors, President Bola Tinubu and former Rivers State Governor, Peter Odili never had any form of friendship till this moment, a presidency source informed TheScrutinyNG on Wednesday.
Both men were governors of Lagos and Rivers from 1999 to 2007.
While Odili was a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on whose platform he was elected, Tinubu was a leader of the defunct Alliance for Democracy (AD) and later Action Congress (AC).
In August 2010, The Action Congress changed its name to the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in its quest to assume a national outlook. ACN later merged with other parties in 2013 to form the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Shortly after leaving office, Odili secured the a controversial injunction from the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt in 2007, preventing the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from investigating, arresting, or prosecuting him, as well as scrutinising the state’s finances during his tenure.
The EFCC has fought to overturn the injunction since 2008, but the legal blockade had shielded Odili from its investigations for nearly two decades.
On Monday, the Supreme Court cleared the EFCC to investigate alleged financial mismanagement during Odili’s tenure.
Some loyalists of Odili have however faulted President Tinubu for allegedly taking sides with former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike and not protecting Odili "his classmate in the 1999 class of governors".
Speaking with our correspondent, a media aide to the president who prefers to remain anonymous, said contrary to claims being made by Odili's loyalists on social media, no relationship between Tinubu and Odili.
"First, the president has pledged to tackle corruption head-on and has always promise the EFCC its unalloyed support. He (Tinubu) will not micromanage the EFCC and dictate to it on who to investigate or not".
" A former governor in the president's party was running away from EFCC. He sent several prominent emissaries to the president but he didn't budge. The governor is currently having his day in court. That is the president Nigerians voted for".
"Also, let me correct the erroneous narratives being bandied about that the president didn't stand up for one of his friends in the 1999 set of governors. No relationship ever existed between the duo".
"Odili was an OBJ man to the core and he saw nothing wrong when OBJ seized Lagos State LG allocations for years until he left office in 2007 and the funds were released by the late President Umaru Musa Yar'adua, another distinguished member of the 1999 class of governors".
Orinechi: If the governor had won in court, would you have sounded like this
My friend. Stop sounding delusional. We want Peace in Rivers State, not this. It's not a matter of Governor winning at the Supreme Court. It's a matter of being reasonable.
In this video, about 100 soldiers of the Nigerian army invade a little compound in a village. Some are seen seemingly searching for the male occupant of the compound, while the others rounded up the females and children. A young lady breaks free from a soldier and tries to run away, but is grabbed by another soldier.
A male occupant is finally caught, and beaten severally, he is dragged by one of the officers, while he profusely begs for life with his hands in the air. There are chants of 'The man go run, make una kill am here, kill am here. If you no kill am, we go kill you'.
The victim, a young male Biafran, is dragged to the ground, hit severally and hacked on the head with a machete. The victim becomes unresponsive..
As the soldiers disperse, leaving the victim for the dead, sprawled on the ground. Another soldier, obviously unsatisfied, shot at the victim twice. Several children are rounded up and made to sit on the ground. They are frightened and crying.
The victim lays dead, as the soldiers disperse with their loots, including goats, and other valuables looted from the compound.
This is to tell you how porous nairaland is. One the norms, mods are not supposed to allow such topics to be created not to mention links. They will not look into things like these rather all they are interested in is placing unnecessary ban.
Martins Amaewhule dey do like don now. He shouldn't forget that the Internet never forgets. They've finished with their Supreme Court brouhaha. He should know that one day he will be in this same shoe as Sim and we will remind him of this and just may be on that day it will be one small boy from Ogoni that will frustrate him like this.
ogododo: Senate President Godswill Akpabio has once again spoken on the scandal rocking the 10th Senate under his watch.
The parliament has been under spotlight since Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) lawmaker from Kogi State, levelled sexual harassment allegation against Akpabio, who denied it.
The lawmaker had submitted a petition against Akpabio but it was thrown out by the committee on ethics which subsequently recommended Natsaha’s suspension.
The action of the senate triggered mixed reactions, with some persons and activists calling on Akpabio to step down and allow independent investigation.
Speaking at an event to commemorate International Women’s Day, Akpabio maintained innocence, saying previous allegations by Natasha ended up false.
‘’It is only yesterday that I realized that what we are talking about only happened when there was a change of seat. That is when hell was let loose and all sorts of allegations came up. Only after the change of seat and change of committee which my Senators know happen from time to time.”
“This is said to have happened on the 8th of December, a day to my birthday which was celebrated in the Stadium in 2023. So from 8th of December 2023, I never heard, my wife never heard, no Nigerian ever heard, even the husband never heard any issue of sexual harassment until her committee was changed and then her seat was changed.
“Have ever wondered the trauma caused by that same woman on the other people she has accused in the past. None has been proven so far. Do you even wonder the trauma this caused to the 10th Senate and the image of the Senate with all this useless allegations. I have refrained myself from making a statement.
“Look at these beautiful women. They have come across me so many times. Have I ever harassed any one of you? Or is the person thinking that you are not beautiful?”
Natasha go soon release evidence. She just dey take her time to arrange am. The woman wan pull Akpabio down and this time around she go do am. Isn't Akpabio supposed to keep quiet having suspended the woman?
GistMedia0: A lady shared a video of herself in tears, claiming she was brutally assaulted by a cab driver over an argument about the car’s air conditioning.
In the trending clip, the distressed woman, with visible injuries, recounted her ordeal. According to her, she had simply asked the driver to turn on the AC during the ride, but he refused, insisting that it would consume more fuel. The disagreement quickly escalated into a heated argument, which allegedly led to the driver physically attacking her.
"I only asked for AC, and he started shouting. Before I knew it, he hit me multiple times. I was so scared!" she sobbed.
The video has sparked outrage on social media, with many calling for the authorities to investigate and take appropriate action. However, some netizens believe her story is one-sided, questioning if there was more to the altercation. One comment read:"The driver will not just beat her up without extreme provocation. Maybe she refused to pay her fare, or there was another issue. It just can't be about AC."
gabbytabby: You mama no train you so that you can express your opinion without abuse. Sorry oh I guess we know who is less than an animal.
I hope your dad has stopped sleeping with widows? As you no come get sense, why you come dey mention person wey no talk to you? Abi your dementia don take over your entire brain?
Antoeni: A Pakistani man has been charged with murder after allegedly shooting the administrator of a community WhatsApp group who removed him from the chat, police said Saturday.
Mushtaq Ahmed was shot dead on Thursday evening in Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a province that borders Afghanistan, which has a history of bloody sectarian violence.
A man named only as Ashfaq has been charged with his murder, according to police documents seen by AFP and a local police official.
Mushtaq allegedly kicked Ashfaq out of the WhatsApp group following an argument, according to a statement by Mushtaq’s brother seen by AFP.
He said that both parties had arranged to meet and reconcile but alleges that Ashfaq turned up with a gun and opened fire, killing his brother.
Ashfaq was angry “in reaction to removal from WhatsApp group,” according to his statement.
The availability of firearms, the influence of tribal customs, and sometimes weak law enforcement contribute to the frequency of such incidents.
gabbytabby: Person wey them wan burn dey take oil rob for body. Unfortunately Fubara played his disloyalty at the wrong time and with the wrong person without having any worthwhile backing.
Only God can stem the tide of the tsunami and I continue to pray for innocent Rivers people that they don’t get caught up in all the drama.
Na backing go kill you and that person wey you dey follow. Animal.
kingbee90: Even as a mod, You are supposed to be ashamed of yourself for making some certain posts with pride. Rivers State is not Ekiti state that it's assembly would hold plenary under a bridge or inside the gutter. That is why we keep telling you folks to keep clear from Rivers politics because we and una nor dey reason alike
No mind that fool. These are the kind of guys seun used as mods and that's why there's injustice here on nairaland.
Acekidc4: Fubara should Goan sit down 👀 he can't dictate to the Lawmakers where to sit and hold plenary sessions. He is doing too that will put him in trouble
Well, kid, he is waiting for that trouble. Let's see how these all ends.
Mynd44: Said executive order holds no water as the governor cannot order assembly members on where to hold sittings.
The law is clear on that and as for when the assembly building isn't available, the house can sit anywhere.
As long as they are within this borders of the state, have the necessary numbers and the mace, they can sit anywhere and make resolutions. The executive order signed by the governor is just a waste of paper.
Picture 1 and 2 are pictures of the Ekiti house of assembly members holding plenary under a bridge
Picture 3 is self explanatory
Shut up.
Another useless mod on nairaland. That's why you ban people without first looking and confirming what transpired. What do you know about Executive orders?
GistMedia0: Amidst the ongoing controversy surrounding suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio, female legislative aides of the 10th Senate have publicly expressed their appreciation for Akpabio’s leadership, describing him as gender-friendly, inclusive, and fair.
The aides emphasized Akpabio’s commitment to women’s empowerment within the legislative arm of government. They highlighted his efforts in ensuring female aides and lawmakers receive equal opportunities, adding that his leadership has fostered a more inclusive working environment in the National Assembly.
“We acknowledge and appreciate the Senate President’s unwavering support for women in politics and governance. His tenure has seen increased inclusivity, and we stand by his efforts in promoting fairness and equity,” the statement read.
This comes as Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan faces suspension over what the Senate described as gross misconduct. While her allegations against Akpabio have stirred political tension, the show of support from female legislative aides suggests a divided perspective on the matter within the Senate.
press9jatv: “Five Pro-Wike Lawmakers Defect To Fubara Camp: Is Governor Fubara’s Eight-Year Tenure Now Set for Celebration?”
By: Joy Musa
In a surprising political shift, five lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, all of whom were staunch supporters of former Governor Nyesom Wike, have announced their defection from Wike camp to Fubara fold. This move, coming just after supreme court judgement, has sent shockwaves through the state’s political landscape, prompting speculation over the stability of Pro Wike Lawmakers in the state.
The five defectors—whose names have yet to be disclosed—were part of the “Pro-Wike” faction that had been instrumental in maintaining the former governor’s hold on the state. Their departure marks a significant blow to the Wike influence in Rivers State and has left many questioning what this means for Fubara’s eight-year tenure, which some are now humorously referring to as a “celebration of stability.”
Political analysts believe that the defections could further weaken the Wike influence in the state, giving Governor Fubara the upper hand in advancing his agenda. However, some critics have raised concerns about whether the move could spark a larger exodus of lawmakers, potentially altering the dynamics within the Rivers State House of Assembly.
For now, Governor Fubara, who assumed office in May 2023, is likely to take the defections to his camp in stride, using the shift in political power to consolidate his position. While celebrations of the governor’s tenure remain speculative, there is no doubt that these recent events could mark a new chapter in Rivers State politics.
In an ironic twist, social media has exploded with memes and jokes about the defections, with many joking that the “thunder” of the lawmakers’ exit will reverberate for years to come. “Thunder fire ultimatum,” one commentator quipped, referencing the earlier political tensions within the state. Whether the defections will indeed lead to a smoother reign for Fubara remains to be seen, but the political waters are undoubtedly more turbulent than ever.
As the state watches these developments unfold, it remains to be seen whether Governor Fubara’s tenure will be marked by the kind of stability he hopes for, or if these defections are only the beginning of larger political shifts in the coming years.

It has become a standard that so long as you are in Nigeria and the system is against you, you'll never get justice. As a man I feel so bad seeing this and it's more demoralising that the man who is in the middle of this is a Lawyer and a former Governor. It's a thing of shame I must say. I have nothing much to say rather than all who supports this injustice should pray they don't raise daughters who will grow up one day to be harassed by men sexually.
Abeg my people, na country we go call this Nigeria so? What manner of fuckery is this? Why not suspend both parties? These Senate committee wants to create problems for Akpabio ooo.
fergie001: Natasha: Distinguished colleagues, I am Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and I stand to raise a petition under Order 40: "A petition may only be presented to the Senate by a Senator who shall affix his or her name at the beginning thereof.'
The petition is in my name against the President of the Nigerian Senate, His Excellency Senator Godswill Akpabio for sexual harassment, abuse of office and malicious obstruction of my legislative functions. You may recall Sir on Friday, on Arise TV, I did make some statements and I have decided to narrow these statements in a formal petition against the President of this Senate, so if it may please you, I will humbly step forward and lay this petition.
Akpabio: You may proceed
