Christianity EtcRe: Questions For Logic1 (if You Have Doubts Concerning The Christian Faith) by ritchboy(m): 8:40pm On Jan 07, 2011
I am talking about belief in something concrete not a mere rephrasal of words.
A coherent worldview has to tell us who we are and at least attempt an explanation of why we are the way we are.

So my friend, a simple belief in the non-existence of gods does not suffice.
Perhaps what you meant to say was "atheism as a world view is illogical" and not "atheism is illogical". The former may be true(depending on your definition of the term "world view"wink but the latter is, well, preposterous.

However if you were to say there is no married man who has never had sex then you would have to have knowledge of all the married men in the world to defend your statement.

To prove that black swans exist, one only has to have seen one black swan; but to say black swans do not exist, one has to have seen all the swans in existence

In the same vein for one to say there is no God one has to know all the beings there are in the universe to know that God is not one of them.

To defend a statement of non-existence one has to possess absolute knowledge.
Except i never said God does not exist. . . Having read through the thread YOU seem to be the only one making categorical statements, with nothing tangible to back them up.

Electricity cannot be observed with the eyes but there is evidence as to it's existence.
Electricity CAN BE OBSERVED with other senses. . . Which of your senses is capable of observing God? Terrible analogy.

We are the evidence of a creator, therefore belief in a creator is logical.
Care to explain this?

Many atheists believe in a creator. They just don't believe that the creator is God.
I assume you are referring to the biblical God.

If you consider that no physical phenomena can materialize out of nothing then you have to agree that the cause / creator of the universe is non - physical.
No physical phenomena can materialize from nothing WITHIN our universe. . . Since you believe the cause of the universe is OUTSIDE the universe then how did you arrive at this conclusion? Are you familiar with the laws outside the universe?

Even if we assume this to be true, is "non-physical" = God?

If you consider that intelligibility and communication has never been observed to manifest in non - intelligent beings and life has never been observed to spontaneously materialize out of non-biological physical matter then you are left with the option that the creator must have been intelligent.
Shouldn't we first establish there is a creator to speak of before we start attributing it with intelligence?

Why we came to the conclusion that atheism is illogical is because it does not satisfactorily explain the fundamental issues of life.
And you think you(or anyone else) actually have a SATISFACTORY explanation of the "fundamental issues of life"? grin grin grin

Pardon me i had to laugh at that. You can start explaining now.

How can atheism explain the creation of the universe without assuming that physical matter somehow spontaneously materialized from nothing (Which is impossible) ?
As far as we know nothing comes of nothing. . . And yet somehow we are here. What if the "default state" is one consisting of physical matter?

Is that any less possible/logical than a creator saying 'let there be light', and then light "spontaneously materializing from nothing"?

The FACT that WE DO NOT KNOW how exactly we came into existence doesn't mean you should plug that gap in your knowledge with unsubstantiated ideas and present them as factual explanation.

Tell us in which Spains formation ether Euro cup ir World cup where Xabi Alonso did not play or you just sat down and formed a formation in your head?
You must be the most incoherent nucca alive. . . What rubbish are you TRYING to say here? That Alonso was a starter for Spain in Euro 2008?

At the last Euros Spain played 4-4-2: Senna, Xavi, Silva, Iniesta; Torres, Villa. Even when Villa got injured Cesc was the one who stepped in, not Alonso.

Get your facts straight before you come here and TRY to embarrass urself.

Ibime:
@ DK,

Ignore that somebody. Even when Torres played, Villa would play on the left.
See this mugu, did you not see me put Villa on the left in the second formation? Ibime i think it's time you stopped browsing with that 45x90 pixel phone of yours. . . You are running the poor thing ragged! cheesy

I guess the DISBELIEF works fine as long as you don't try to defend atheism rationally. If it is to be defended rationally then the DISBELIEF must be backed up by some kind of BELIEF.

To be able to elevate atheism into a worldview then DISBELIEF is not enough . One has to believe in something to have a coherent worldview. That's the kind of atheism we are dealing with here.
The disbelief in the existence of God(s) is a BELIEF in the non-existence of God(s). . . mere wordplay

I'm sorry to say, but your brand of atheism which includes only disbelief is not a worldview and we are discussing worldviews here.
"My brand of atheism"? cheesy

Look at your analogy well sir, what does a man having sex with his wife have to do with having a coherent worldview?
You said one requires "ABSOLUTE knowledge" to logically be an atheist(belief in non-existence of God). If a man is married to a woman, then it is logical to believe they've had sex based on the absolute FINITE knowledge of their marriage.

The point is, one doesn't need absolute knowledge to logically believe anything, you only need finite knowledge.

On the other hand, when there is a lack of tangible knowledge/evidence, then the logical conclusion is not to believe, be it in God, Santa Claus or Bigfoot

Since there is no evidence(hypothesis of the "unmoved mover" doesn't count as evidence) to suggest God exists, then surely it IS LOGICAL to believe he doesn't(atheism).

How one comes to the conclusion atheism is illogical beats me.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans Thread : Winners of the FA Cup And League Winners 09/10 by ritchboy(m): 9:45am On Jan 06, 2011
DK/Ibime,

Y'all are basing ur inclusion of Alonso/Swiny on Spain's WC formation. . . If everyone is fully fit and firing, then there is no room for Alonso/Swiny.

Busquets Xavi

Silva/Pedro Iniesta

Torres Villa

OR

Busquets Xavi

Silva/Pedro Iniesta Villa

Torres

Now let Cougar come and tell us where the likes of Carrick & Gibson would fit in a 99 man Spanish squad. . .

dayokanu:
Xabi Alonso who starts for Spain is being coached by Jose Mourinho.

Jose Mourinho stated that Bastian Schweinsteiger was his player of 2010.

Schweinsteiger would definitely play for Spain.
What manner retar.ded logic is this?

How can one make such asinine comments like the one above minute-in-minute-out and still repeatedly accuse people of delusion?
Christianity EtcRe: Questions For Logic1 (if You Have Doubts Concerning The Christian Faith) by ritchboy(m): 8:03pm On Jan 05, 2011
I usually don't comment here but i find this quite preposterous:

Given the above and the fact that you do not have absolute knowledge then you cannot logically be an atheist.
How so? Using the definition you provided earlier, atheism is the DISBELIEF in the existence of God, not the belief in the FACT that God does not exist.

Saying you need "absolute knowledge" to "logically be an atheist" is like saying you need absolute knowledge to "logically believe" a man has had sex with his wife, or to believe virtually anything else for that matter. . . Preposterous.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans Thread : Winners of the FA Cup And League Winners 09/10 by ritchboy(m): 7:04pm On Jan 05, 2011
See these punks talking about Cesc and how many starts he has for Spain. . . I seriously doubt any CM from Man Utd or Bayern Mushin would even make Spanish bench let alone start.

If Cesc(arguably the best footballer in the league) doesnt start for Spain then it says more about the quality of Xavi and his cohorts than Cesc's deficiencies as a player.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Chelsea Fans Thread : Winners of the FA Cup And League Winners 09/10 by ritchboy(m): 2:06pm On Jan 04, 2011
If it is possible to assemble a team with - Defence of Terry, Ivanovic, Alex, Bruma, Cole, Pat Van Aanholt; Midfield of Lampard, Essien, Mikel, Hazrd, JMcE, Matic, Kakuta, Alex Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez, Malouda, and Attack of Drogba, Anelka, Lukaku, Neymar, Kalou and Borini, we "WILL" not need to buy for five years.
Yes, the unforeseen - players with absolute promise losing form, long term injuries and the likes - may happen and that could force you to go out and buy; the thought of spending big, buying right and mixing with a bunch of good talents from the academy with the intention of not approaching the market for five years cannot be considered dumb.
Players losing form, wanting to leave, suffering injuries, etc are not "unforeseen", they are INEVITABLE. That, my friend, is what renders your argument "dumb".

Also, just because you have good players doesnt mean you wouldn't have the "intention" of getting even better players when they INEVITABLY pop up during that 5 year period. That renders your argument "dumber".

Last but not least(actually the most fundamental), the likes of Drogba, Lampard, Anelka, Malouda etc will be either retired or useless within 5 years. They'll INEVITABLY have to be replaced. And don't delude yourself, the odds of your kids turning out to be good enough to replace all those players are slimmer than a microorganism's toothpick. This is what render's your argument the "dumbest" of 2011 thus far. cheesy
