Djourou has been absolutely fantastic since he returned from injury.

Slim,

I agree 100%. It's impossible to fit Arshavin, Cesc, RVP and Chamakh in a 4-4-2, unless we're chasing a game, or the opponent is significantly weaker. Which brings us back to what to do with Chamakh?

Well i guess it's a better type of headache to have than the one from last season: Who plays as the lone striker, Arshavin or Vela? cheesy
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by ritchboy(m): 6:28pm On Dec 01, 2010
While Cesc is injured, play Nasri centrally and play AA23, RVP and Chamakh in a front three. That will give us a chance to see whether it can work or not, and we'll still have all the main ballers on the pitch.
How would a front three of Arshavin, RVP and Chamakh line up? Who plays wide? RVP hasnt played wide in a long time and i dont think it would make too much sense playing one of your very best players out of position.

I don't think he's going to sacrifice Chamakh just yet till RVP gains full fitness and form.
Dont be surprised if he does. . . Afterall he's already dropped Chamakh for a half fit RVP earlier this season at Blackburn. Though Chamakh has given a good account of himself since then.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by ritchboy(m): 6:11pm On Dec 01, 2010
^^ Then what will the midfield look like when Cesc returns?

Wenger never plays Cesc in a two-man midfield anymore which is why i think he'll drop Chamakh.

       Song    Wilshere

Nasri       Cesc     Arshavin

               RVP

                OR

           Song    Cesc

Nasri                            Arshavin

                 RVP

             Chamakh

Probably the former. Though i'd love to see the latter where appropriate.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by ritchboy(m): 5:56pm On Dec 01, 2010
RVP showed us what we've been missing like the kid on a carton of milk! Phenomenal footballer.

So Wenger still knows how to play 4-4-2? It was closer to 4-2-4 actually so maybe he doesnt grin grin

Does Wenger stick RVP behind Chamakh or does he revert to 4-3-3 and drop Chamakh?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by ritchboy(m): 3:33pm On Dec 01, 2010
VdV lacks the skilled movement of a 10, All he does is to depend on Long range shots and some hustle, No innate skill whatsoever.

Its only in this time that a VdV can play a number 10, Skillwise he is on the same level as Lampard though much less effective.

Can VdV successfully dribble round a traffic cone
Ramblings of a mad man. . . What Rafa can do with the ball, Lampard can never fantasize nor dream about.

VdV's technique shytes on every player at Bayern and you are there talking nonsense about skill.

My friend go and get a clue.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Manchester United Fan Thread: Red Devils' Zone! by ritchboy(m): 3:02pm On Dec 01, 2010
If Holland play with orthodox no10, VDV will get the shirt everytime
Sneijder will still play ahead of VdV cos he has a bigger rep. . .

One can also argue Sneijder is a more "orthodox" AM than VdV, who is more of an SS. . . it's half full half empty.

The person saying Ozil is better than VdV must have cotton wool for brains. . .
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Did Mourinho Instruct His Players To Get Red Cards? by ritchboy(m): 1:43pm On Dec 01, 2010
Yeah, he was supposed to give instructions based on the chance that Real Madrid will 'probably' be 4-0 up ten minutes to the end of the game, infact he should have told them to get red cards 2-0 up at halftime . . . see what emotions do to grown men.
Eldee, i'm afraid to inform you you are talking nonsense cheesy

Jose didnt have to know they'll be exactly 4 nil up. . . 2 nil, 3 nil, 4-1 etc are also leads which you'd EXPECT Real Madrid to have over Ajax like 7 times out of ten.

Any  know that pictures of a coach talking to his players cannot is nowhere near proof that he told them to waste time, let's not even get to the point of asking them to get red cards . . . Fact is different from the truth . . . fact is, pictures of JM talking to Essien before he goes to injure the key player of an opposing team is no proof that he was instructed, you don't need an SSCE to know that.
Of course fact is different from truth. . . Rooney apparently stamping on Carvalho's balls doesnt mean he meant to do it. . . That doesnt stop the ref from sending him off. Just as the lack of "fact" didnt stop UEFA from punishing Mourinho. You NEED Common Entrance to know that!

Are you not familiar with the term "Reasonable Doubt"?

I can't name one, you know why?? Because no one ever made a big deal of time-wasting till last week.
So why then were you asking me if they were the first players to do it? Eldee, are you DPUI(posting under influence)? cheesy

Hehehe . . .it happens all the time, one loophole . . . one man exploited it, everyone comes out to say they thought of it first.
Ramos and Alonso are NOT the first players to get suspended intentionally. Go and read the article someone posted on the first page or so, there were 4 or 5 other instances there. People have probably been doing it since Mourinho was in diapers.

Wrong . . . the only person that does not accept it is the team that's behind.
For the gazillionth time you have no clue what you are talking about. Does the ref accept it? Do the governing bodies accept it? Do the fans accept it? Do you accept it?

Time wasting in deadball situations is used all the time, managers making baseless substitutions in the 93rd minute, players feigning injuries when they're ahead, players kicking the ball as far as they can in dead ball situations, players taking forever to walk off the pitch after a subtitution, obstructing a freekick. . . could you please tell me one team in this world that's not put one of those scenarios I listed into practice.
Just like diving is used all the time, overly aggressive tackles are used all the time, etc. The question here isnt whether it is "used all the time" but whether it is "ACCEPTED" / "NOT FROWNED UPON". Do you smile when you see Drogba rolling shamelessly on the ground?

I can even go as far as a few scenarios where fans hold on to the ball to stop the opposing team from getting the ball.
We are talking about players here not spectators. If you go that far you'll never find your way back cheesy

Now you tell me to take Suarez' feelings into consideration . . . that sounds like you saying 'Messi's silky moves are not accepted in football because everyone else tries to kick him'.
It sounds nothing like that. Did you think at all before you typed this?
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Did Mourinho Instruct His Players To Get Red Cards? by ritchboy(m): 5:04pm On Nov 29, 2010
Oh yeah, I get it, he was supposed to use his crystal ball to see that Alonso and Ramos will get yellow cards in the match . . . and he was supposed to forsee a 4-0 lead at 75 minutes so he can say 'yo Ramon, Xabi . . . we'll be 4-0 up 81 minutes into the game, can you like pull an Oscar winning send off after the Ronaldo penalty??'.
One doesn't need a crystal ball to know Real would probably beat Ajax. . . Even if Real were underdogs, a "genius" should be clever enough to know he should give instructions of that nature in the dressing room and not in front of 1000 cameras, in the event of an upset.

If Jose thought he and his posse werent going to be caught on camera and subsequently charged by UEFA, HE IS NOT CLEVER! Or at least, he wasnt clever on that occasion.

He instructed his players to get sent off to avoid potential one match ban, and now both players, and two others face God knows how many games ban AND a fine. . . That isnt genius, that is foolish.

How do I expect a player 4-0 up to get a yellow card for time wasting without looking ridiculous?? Oh, so Alonso and Ramos are the first players to waste time after to protect a high margin win??
Arent they? Or can you name another player that spent an hour over a dead ball when his team team were 4 goals up in stoppage time?

Hehehe . . . genius is he thought of it before you did
No he didnt. . . If you must know, that is a strategy i use quite regularly in video games cheesy

A million coaches must have also thought of it. . . The difference is Mourinho is the only one stupid enough to actually do it in front of over 6 billion people! cheesy

You see, we can be trivial and argue over the meaning of 'accepted' in this context . . . or we could just be reasonable and note that accepted means widely practised and popular with managers and players and not frowned upon like diving and setting out to injure players.
I call reasonable.
In whatever context, time wasting from dead balls IS FROWNED UPON and is NOT ACCEPTED by referees, managers, players, drug-dealers, etc.

Does Suarez going ballistic look like a symbol of "acceptance" or "SMILING upon" to you? The only person that would "accept" time wasting from a dead ball is the person wasting the time. Even your team mates might not like it.

I remember Henry looking disgusted at Lehmann for wasting time from a goal kick when Arsenal were 2-1 up against United in stoppage time some seasons ago.

Running the clock down near the corner flag is completely different from taking a lifetime to get the ball back into play. Dont get it twisted.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Did Mourinho Instruct His Players To Get Red Cards? by ritchboy(m): 10:38am On Nov 29, 2010
Mourinho is genius, it's not his fault that the acting was crappy. . . it's just like asking Jim Iyke to star in a movie directed by Tarantino, does that make Tarantino less of a genius?? He worked it perfectly, at the end of the day, if not for the fact that this was JM, they won't be on this witch-hunt.
It IS his fault he wasnt clever enough to give the instructions BEFORE the game. If he'd done that, then he, Dudek, and Casillas wouldnt be in trouble for starters. If Jose isnt aware there are a million cameras in the stadium and thought he'd get away with it, he's not clever, simple.

As for the acting being crappy, how else do you expect a player whose team is 4 goals up to get sent off for time wasting without it looking ridiculous? There are less obvious ways to get sent off, again, Jose is more dunce than genius if he couldnt think of any.

By the way you do know that his defence is going to be 'I told my players to waste time since we were ahead, and the referee got annoyed'.
Time-wasting is an accepted part of technical footie.
NO IT ISN'T! Not from a dead-ball situation. If it's "accepted", players wouldn't get booked for doing it.

I think "genius" has a different meaning on Nairaland. . . Or what is genius about getting yourself and 4 of your players charged by UEFA? On the contrary, it is the height of stupidity.

It could have been avoided(or at least reduced a few notches) if Mourinho had just told em "if we are comfortably ahead get yourself sent off", before the game.

If Dudek and Casillas get suspended, who will play in goal? Ronaldo? cheesy

You know, Mourinho is not quite as smart as he thinks he is.

Just tot to add that Rosicky played a very good game in the middle today.
The reason been when Cesc isn't on the field, the other creative players take up more responsibilities.
The main reason being Wenger always plays him wide. . . Tomas Rosicky is the finest play-maker in the league when played central.

A smart team playing Arsenal should just sit back and hit the ball forward. For sure Denilson will be there to defend.
grin grin grin

Wenger must also take some blame for deploying Denilson as the deepest lying midfielder when he's clearly not up to the task. . . I know he can be a lot better than this if used more appropriately.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Arsenal Fan Thread: For Gunners Only by ritchboy(m): 11:49pm On Nov 23, 2010
Djourou was the only one who gave a good account of himself tonight. . . Wilshere, Gibbs & Rosicky were half-decent, almost everyone else was poor. Bentdner was useless.

Even at that, it's ill luck to have a blatant penalty not given, then concede a goal immediately after going down to ten men through injury, all in the space of 2 minutes.

We'll definitely trounce Partizan and qualify but this was a disaster.

Also, i cant understand why Wenger fielded a second string team yet started Cesc who has been struggling with his hamstring. Why not just play Rosicky central instead? I mean what the hell is Cesc doing surrounded by Bendtners and Denilsons? Now he's out for how long?

P.S. If Ibime comes here and declares Denilson "easily one of the best midfielders in the league" again, i'll slap his teeth out.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Inc by ritchboy(m): 8:17pm On Nov 23, 2010
In the first half, Spurs were comprehensively outplayed.

In the second half, Spurs were still outplayed but scored thrice.

Overall, Spurs had no business getting a point let alone 3.

Arsenal are probably the only team in the world that can utterly dominate their opponents and contrive to lose as frequently as they do. . .

When they learn how to turn that domination into wins more often they'll be favorites. . . For now they're challengers.

Spurs on the other hand still have a long long way to go cheesy
