—How Poor Nigeria’s Health System killed a Young female Philanthropist, Kaffy Harbdul

YBTC News—Kafayat Abdulazeez, 25 years old Muslim lady was not feeling too fine on Valentine’s Day, Thursday, February 14, 2019. She left for Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja, where she was admitted, and the doctors diagnosed that she had pneumonia.

After the initial treatment she regained her strength. But painfully, the following day, Friday, her situation became worse and the hospital was no longer as responsive as they were supposed to be.

Mobile oxygen which was supposed to be used on her was not used. A drug was prescribed by her doctors, but the nurses didn’t give the prescription to the family until a day after. By then it was too late. That was how we lost our beloved friend, colleague and advocate.

We lost our friend, our volunteer, an anti-human trafficking, Co-founder of Al-imran Islamic Foundation and health advocate, Miss Kafayat Abdulazeez (Kaffy Harbdul), due to the carelessness of our medical practitioners and our unhealthy health system. We cannot call it a medical mistake. It was clearly a case of lack of value for life by our medical practitioners.

It is important to know that access to proper health treatment is a human right. Denying people treatment is an abuse of the right of citizens. Lack of value for the life of a patient is violation of the rights of the patient.

Miss Kafayat would have been alive today if her treatment was taken seriously at Asokoro General Hospital, Abuja. She would have survived if those on duty treated her with a sense of emergency and urgency. While she was in the emergency unit, her health was not taken as an emergency. Her family, friends begged and cried but no empathy was shown. A patient in the hospital had to place a call to doctors and kept begging on her behalf just to be treated, but all efforts proved abortive.

A lady who impacted communities and the less privileged. She had a lineup of community projects for this month under her foundation, Al-imran Islamic foundation. So many indigent people depended on her to put a smile on their faces. She is also a volunteer with Devatop Centre for Africa Development and Project Pink Blue and more....

“We are hopeful that the tenure of our IGP has been extended by Mr President because you can see him today in his official uniform even though the media said he was to retire yesterday (Thursday).

—Full text of President Muhammadu Buhari new year Message

Dear compatriots,

It is my utmost pleasure to rejoice with all Nigerians as we enter the year 2019, which will be a very significant one for our country.

2. At the turn of every year, we often use the opportunity to look back at the past and forward to the future. To review the outgoing year, its high and low points, successes and failures, and be fully thankful to God.

3. We Nigerians are a religious people, and we believe that God reigns and rules in the affairs of men. A time like this offers precious opportunity for thanksgiving, stock taking and reflection on goals and targets set for the receding year, and how much was accomplished. The ones not done can then be rolled over into a new year.

4. The dawn of a New Year is also a time to look forward. To consider new prospects, unfold our plans, and prepare for landmark dates and events.

5. 2019 will be an election year for us. In about two months, the polls are due, and we will elect leaders into various offices, at national and state levels.

6. As I welcome you into 2019, I also reiterate my many promises and declarations that the general elections will be free, fair and credible.

7. Elections need not be do or die affair, and we should not approach that eventuality in a democracy with trepidation and mortal fear. Happily, a large number of presidential candidates have committed
