He simply encouraged not to fight in work place even if you are being cheated on, just to avoid law case against you.

Better still, put your anger on the person outside work area to avoid office property damage.

This depends on your city and state. And it really depends on how badly you beat up the person you intend to fight. If you use a weapon, that's a charge. If you destroy work property, that's a charge. If you disrupt the peaceful work environment, that's a charge. If the person you fight gets severely injured or dies, that's a charge. These are variables you have to consider. You could be in jail for a long period of time.
Plus, you run the risk of being fired.
Moral of this story, don't fight at work. Hash out your beef with someone off the work site somewhere.

Jobs/Vacancies / What Is The First Thing To Do When I Reach And Start My Day In Office? by Robertkenny(m): 4:13am On Jun 26, 2021

Once you enter into the office, just sit in your place and take a deep breathe and relax.
And then, clean your desk, computer, keep each and every items in proper place, take some few moment to pray have it in mind you’re good to go, so that you can feel a good environment and you can concentrate in your work.

After do a list of your works and organize it with smile.
Then wish your colleagues with a warm smile in your face.

Place important calls and check if there is any urgent emails you have to send.

Be in a very clear mind.
Dont get confused for anything.

If any doubts just ask with your colleagues, don't feel nervous or tensed.
In this way, you'll have a good environment in office and also a better day.

Jobs/Vacancies / How Do You Tell Your Boss That There Is Too Much Work? by Robertkenny(m): 2:11am On Jun 24, 2021
David Gray

Hi boss, do you have a sec? I was reviewing all the tasks on my plate and making estimates of how long it will take me to accomplish them. I realized that given the deadlines we have, there's no way I can get all that done and maintain a good level of quality. There's about 8 days of work to do, and our milestone is in 5 days.

I'd like some guidance from you on how to prioritize these tasks, given the time constraints. Or if you'd like, I could help brainstorm how to shuffle some tasks around to other team members."

Something like that assumes that you're on the same team, rather than being antagonistic or blaming. It gives him or her specific information, rather than a vague statement of "there's too much work!" It's also an offer to help with the problem, rather than just dumping it on your boss and saying "you figure it out."

If you were reporting to me, I'd respond well to something like that.

How do you complaint?

Jobs/Vacancies / At What Point Is It Too Late To Back Out After Accepting A Job Offer? by Robertkenny(m): 1:00am On Jun 22, 2021
Adepetun Robert Kehinde

Technically speaking, you are free to back out at any point right up until the job is expected to begin. But the more important questions are how they will react to your backing out and the impression you’ll be sending.
If you were to back out earlier, it would give the company enough time to extend an offer to their second or third choice. So they will have time to run with an alternate to substitute for your dropping out. But if you hit them at the last minute, now you’re leaving them in a tough position because it’s too late to have a substitute come in. And that will make them pretty upset and angry at you! So you would have burned a bridge with them by not giving them time to deal with the situation. And the message is you “played games” with them.
The exception to backing out at the last minute would be a perfectly acceptable “emergency.” For example, you were involved in a terrible accident and are hospitalized or laid-up and unable to start work. While the company won’t be pleased, they will also be understanding that you don’t have a choice here. So it’s not your fault you’re incapacitated.
Thus, backing out of a job offer is something you need to consider very carefully!

Jobs/Vacancies / How To Deal With An Angry Boss by Robertkenny(m): 3:15am On Jun 19, 2021
Adepetun Robert Kehinde

The next time you are being yelled at or criticized, ask them “what do you mean? are you not happy with what I did or may be with how I did it?”
You are forcing them to actually explain to you what do they want. This is the first step of negotiation.

Oh, sorry, I didn’t mention it before. It is all about negotiation and them yelling at you is a tactic for you doing whatever they want. In this particular case I assume that they want you to acknowledge that they are stronger, better, superior, whatever. It is all about ego. You on the other hand, do not want to be yelled at, bullied or otherwise abused.
So, by asking them what do they mean, you are defusing the situation. when yelled at, we tend to react emotionally but when you are asking a question, you are taking control over a situation since you are creating a dialog and not a yelling/criticism interaction.

SO, you start with a question - “what do you mean?” and then you should receive an answer since the question is based on your constructive desire to be a better employee, right? If you get some response like “you are too slow, you should work faster!” Ask them for guidance - “How would I do that?” Or “How would you suggest me to do that?”. At this point, I am sure that you will have a much more calmer boss and a little bit more control over the situation. Who knows, they may even understand that being quite and “introvert” is not the same as stupid and spineless.

Introverts, are more focused, more creative and usually, have greater self confidence and esteem. People are challenged by introverted people and thus have trouble with them sometimes. It is their problem, not yours.

Jobs/Vacancies / What Is The Cleverest Salary Negotiation You've Had? by Robertkenny(m): 1:42am On Jun 17, 2021
Adepetun Robert Kehinde

Do your homework before you get to the salary negotiation and KNOW your market worth. That being said, some HR personnel will pause for a long time after you state your salary requirement. This is a tactic they employ to make you uncomfortable & doubt your salary requirement and make you blurt out: “well its negotiable”……don’t ever say that!… because then they got you and will undoubtedly offer you less. Stick to your original salary figure no matter how long they pause or try to talk you down. Be business smart.

Jobs/Vacancies / Have You Ever Lost A Job Offer Because You Negotiated Your Salary Too High? by Robertkenny(m): 3:07am On Jun 15, 2021
Okoye Vincent

Recently i got an interview in one of the leading IT Company. It is CMMI level company so i thought to try. I gave written test and technical round of interview, then again technical round with manager and he put me on hold.
After i asked the reason to HR, she told me manager put you on hold. Again after 3 months i got a call that now you have to give final round of interview.
I went there for another technical round and got selected. This time my appraisal is due in current company which is on next month so i can’t accept first offer which is 15% raise.
I have 50k salary so it’s obvious I will get 15% in current company so i asked for 30% raise and she offered me 54k on hand. My current on hand is around 45k so i told her that i won’t join at these much less and if she wants to renegotiate, i am open for that. She after offered me 55k. I was like shocked that is this called negotiation. She is asking me for 1k more. Am i at grocery store or what? I said no.
She said she is chasing me from few days to convince me but now she won’t. So i said, if your offer is convincing, no need to chase anyone. What does it make sense to give someone 1k more? She said, if you want to join at the offer, call me or reply me.
I never replied and called.

Jobs/Vacancies / What's The Most Embarrassing Thing You Have Done In Your Work Life? by Robertkenny(m): 3:08am On Jun 14, 2021
Michael S.D.

Most embarrassing huh…! because if you mean just embarrassing, I have many, and I mean many.. I am as clumsy as it gets when it comes to workplace. But in this one, I have outdone myself in terms of embarrassment.
I work in the IT department of my company, a not too shabby enclosed space with superb lighting where all other IT nerds go on with their coding everyday. So the thing about this enclosed space is its extremely quiet. So quiet that it would make my school teachers the happiest if their class was ever like this, the pin drop silence types.
Confession: Myself along with some guys from college have a whats-app group which is known for it’s THAT kind of posts, if you know what I mean…. And it usually includes nude, GIF’s, short clips and all other kind of media types depicting the basic forms of pleasure in human nature.
Now for my most embarrassing moment — I usually put my phone on silent always. But on that not so funny day somehow it was on full volume. And that same not so funny day someone decided to post a video clip in the group. I went into the group and clicked on the video still under the assumption the phone’s on silent. Guess what happened, of course it was all the sounds of pleasure from the two of them in the clip emanating from my phone loud and clear for everyone to hear. There were constant giggles, laughs, whines, occasional sighs of disgust and eeayyh, who is that, Konji master, Aaah kind of shout!!
And that was the one time I literally wanted to hide in a bubble forever. I wanted to dig a hole under me and jump in it. I wanted to find a bag and cover my face inside it. I wanted to just f**king DIE
PS 1: Yes, I should have known better than to open that group while at work
PS 2: Yes, I should have checked my phone if it was on silent or not before I opened it.
PS 3: Yes I acted like a complete immature professionally demeaning person on that day.
Yes I agree to all of the stuff you wish to say, so save those comments…

Jobs/Vacancies / What To Do If You Hate Your Job by Robertkenny(m): 2:38am On Jun 13, 2021
Adepetun R. Kehinde

A lot of my friends are in companies that they don't want to be in, have a routine that they hate and are frustrated almost three times a week. When I try to reason with them and tell them to quit their job and try for a better job or startup, it doesn't work, because I get the following answers
• I need to gain more experience here then I will quit
• If I leave so early it will put a bad impression on my resume
• You got lucky, doesn't mean I will
• I don't have any contacts, don't know where to start
Apparently the approach of asking them to leave never worked but there had to be another way. Because when someone gets trapped in the circle of their excuses it's difficult for them to get out unless someone else shows them a unique way, mine was this.
I told them "Don't quit your job, just give 10 interviews."
What does that mean?
Instead of telling them to quit, I told them just check out ten companies you would like to work at, mail them, tweet to them or check out their careers page and give an interview with them. That's it, no big deal, only ten interviews. And give the interviews like you have nothing to lose.
One of my friends got a double package offer in the second interview he gave, one in the first she gave. They both quit their jobs.
Just give ten interviews in the next 4-6 weeks, that's it, no big deal.

Jobs/Vacancies / Which One Is Better, A 70K Private Job Or A 40K Government Job? by Robertkenny(m): 4:50am On Jun 09, 2021
Mrs. Precious

The government job is better even if it pays 40k instead of private job which pays 70k.
I've worked in private sector and can confirm that Nigeria private sector jobs are terrible. For that 70k a private sector company will take 140k worth of work out of you. Most of the times, even though official timings were 9 to 5 Monday to Saturday, I rarely left my office at 5 and most of the days left around 7pm and sometimes even worked on Sundays.
Now I'm in govt job, I arrive at office at 9am and leave at 5pm without any problem.

In private job I was happy with salary initially for 2 -3 months but after that I realised few things:

1. I was getting fat because of only 5 hour sleep and drinking sugary coffee to keep myself awake in office

2. My private job was making me work 2–3 times more than normal and only paying 70k

3. No time with family and the little time I got was used by me to sleep and recover physically than interact with family

4. Since all Saturdays were working I had no time to visit bank or to do any household chores as on Sunday also I needed to take rest and could hardly move a muscle.

5. Everyday I used to curse my job but still had to work and give 100 percent otherwise I would get in the bad books of boss.

6. After 1 year of struggle the private job increased my salary by 5k, and my salary became 75k. But that hardly satisfied me as I realized expectations from me had increased even more. That meant I was given even more work than I could take.

7. Now I'm in govt job which pays me 60k a month plus benefits. And I'm happier. More respect for work done. The public gives a heartfelt thank you when I do work for them. I feel I'm contributing to the nation. I spend more time with family.

Once you have worked in Pvt and govt sector you will realise that govt sector pays more for per hours work done than Pvt Sector.

Thank you Bogger for sharing my story.

Jobs/Vacancies / Why Did You Quit Your Last Job by Robertkenny(m): 5:10am On Jun 08, 2021
Okoye Juliana

My last job was horrible. It was an incredibly abusive situation. It was a law firm and the main shareholder was a huge jerk. I always say this joke to a close colleague of mine “Our boss his here now, let watch the Devil wear Prada”. He would yell at you in front of everyone, curse and scream “Are you a craze lout?!”. One time he threw his lunch wrap at me because they delivered it with whole wheat wrap instead of spinach (I wasn’t the one who ordered it and even so, why would it be his assistants fault if the restaurant messed up?). He even yelled at his wife in front of everyone. People had literal panic attacks and mental breakdowns not only from the abuse but because he would place impossible deadlines and overall stress us out. We were working on a class action lawsuit. We were expecting to get literally over 10 thousand responses (if I remember correctly Defensive was arguing that the number of claimants was false and so now were requesting proof) and he wanted us to open every single one, scan them in and file them in by a certain date. I remember doing the math and if we (it was a group of 5 of us) literally stopped doing our jobs and just spend the next week opening letters from open till close we still would not be done on time, and that didn’t include scanning them in but he didn’t care. He would walk in and yell at us that we were too slow and not good for anything. One girl had a mental breakdown after she spent basically her last three days living at the office. She would sleep at her desk and shower in the gym downstairs because of how much work he gave her.

It was honestly one of the worst work environments I had ever been in, I finally give up the job last year. Before quitting my old job, I made sure I secured a better job with great management team.

Thank you Bogger for sharing my story.

Jobs/Vacancies / Have You Ever Fired Someone On Their First Day In Office by Robertkenny(m): 5:01am On Jun 07, 2021
Mr. Omisesan Olaniyi

Unfortunately, yes. A few years ago, the company I was working for had a position open in customer service.

I interviewed several people and ended up hiring a woman that seemed perfect for the job.

She had a beautiful resume and interviewed extremely well.

Her first day on the job she spent a couple of hours completing paperwork and reading the job description we had typed up, which outlined all of her new duties.

Everything was going well, until she actually sat down at the computer so I could show her where certain files were, etc. She seemed to struggle a little with the basic search functions, but I assumed she was a little nervous on her first day.

Next I showed her the email we had created for the position, and how she could answer certain customer inquiries with a simple document that could be attached to her reply. I showed her the document, which was saved on the desktop, and I told her to go ahead and reply to one of the emails with the attachment.

She didn’t seem to understand what I meant, so I thought maybe I had confused her in some way. So I sat down at her computer, opened the email we were responding to, typed a simple “Please see attachment” reply, attached the document, and hit SEND.

Then I asked her to respond to the next email in the same way. She was totally lost. It was as if she had never used a computer before.

Unfortunately, the position needed someone proficient in basic computer skills, so after testing her on a couple of other things (like editing a simple Word doc), I had to let her go at the end of the day. In hind sight, we obviously should have been checking references prior to interviewing anyone.

Thanks for sharing.

I'm a bit curious; how much did you make on a monthly basis while you were there?

Eleven years later, where are you now? What are the working conditions like for you currently?

As for my working experience, they've been mild to averagely good. For now, I work from home.

At some point, I plan to go out there and start a string of companies, but I'm not looking to work for anyone, no sir.

She was earning N75k, but like she said they make more money when clients are brought in.

She's currently working in a better company and she's a mother now.

Jobs/Vacancies / My First Job Experience After School As A Lady. by Robertkenny(m): 4:53am On Jun 06, 2021
Miss. Olivia

11 years ago I was 23 years old, fresh from university and got employed as a mortgage banker in a local bank in Lagos. On top of my salary, I had commission income, transport and entertainment allowances. It was good right? But not all that glitter is gold.

However 6months into it I was disappointed. I realized that rosy picture I painted of work life in the finance sector was born of artlessness. Underneath that suit and immaculate appearance, I was just a saleswoman, advertising one peddling products I could not even convince myself to buy.

I also felt like I was doubling up as a club hostess peddling my services to clients, in this case they were property agents, and bribing them with fine food and alcohol in a bid to get engaged for mortgage advisory services in the event of a successful home sale. This happened on an almost daily basis. I found it absurd I spent 4 years studying accounting that turned out to have little to do with my job.

People at work were miserable. Humiliation was a tactic used to encourage sales performance. Tight date lines sent everyone panicking, which you’ve to deliver. I was told some would sleep with property agents to get business. How true I don’t know but I wouldn’t be surprised. It was a lot of money if you did well.

It was a bitchy industry. I was not sociable and didn’t try to get along with most of the bankers. Probably one reason why I was the victim of horrible rumor's.

The story went that I accused my mentor, someone I held in high regard, of raping me after I tried to seduce him and got rejected. That was sick. I never did any of those things; never seduced him, never accused him. I then knew why he avoided me for the longest time... Since we had never spent enough time for him to know me enough to know I wouldn’t sink that low, he likely believed them more.

Sexual harassment was common. I think because many of the women were fine with sexual exchanges, the men assumed all of the women wouldn’t mind their advances. Of course not all the men were disrespectful. A few did come to my aid at various times.

I felt that the environment negatively impacted everyone. There was a lot of money to be made and it led to people becoming mercenary, selfish, backstabbing, demeaning… those who were not, were also affected like me.

I felt my mental-wellbeing under constant attacks and it affected my personality. I was distrusting and temperamental. It hurt the interactions with people I was close to. In distress, I seek the solace of short term pleasures, consoling myself with the food and alcohol that was always on offer, but I only felt worse. My self-esteemed dipped. I was not proud of the person I had become… At some point I realized this was not living. No amount of money was worth selling my soul. I left after 2 years into the job.

You see, our work life has a huge influence on other areas of life. If you feel constantly feel shitty at work, this negatively influences your character and colors everything else you do. If you feel good at work, your moods will positively impact other areas of your life. Therefore, choose your work wisely.

However I am really grateful to that experience because I learnt so much about life and how to better identify the right career path for myself in such a short time and at an early stage of my life. It’s all good.

Thank you Bogger for letting me share my story

How was your first job experience like? Kindly share your story.

Jobs/Vacancies / What One Employee Taught Me About Hiring by Robertkenny(m): 3:50am On Jun 05, 2021
A true life story by Mr. Wilfred

I quit. I’m in Third Mainland and leaving the van with the keys here.

That was the call I received one weekend not long after launching my first business. To the bitterness situation, the van referenced was full of valuable merchandise, and I was 9 hours away in Enugu state.

And so started my long history of terrible hires.
Some background. I had started a business with a partner, and we were already stretched to the limit with time, money and stress. The van in question was in route to Lagos to deliver merchandise to new clients and needless to say, it never made it to the clients.

Immediately after receiving the call, I drove with my business partner overnight to Lagos Island to retrieve the van. Of course, like very entrepreneurial story, this one was more complicated. The delivery driver who abandoned our van and the merchandise was actually on his third task with our company. Yes, third.

When the driver originally applied for the position, he was a well-spoken, ambitious and genuinely seemed enthusiastic to join our smooth startup team. The first time we hired him, however, he did not show up for his first day, though he did call later and had a reasonably good excuse for missing. He demonstrated remorse and continued to express enthusiasm to be part of our team, so I gave him another chance.

Fool me once, shame on me. When his first day again came, he again never showed up. And again he called and had a seemingly valid reason for not coming. He begged for one more opportunity, and although I declined originally, but he was persistent. Again everything I knew had been taught, I gave him another chance.

Fool me twice, shame on me. This third time, he did show up for his first day and after a couple of months on the job and getting to know our operation, he seemed reliable. We then decided to give him the van keys to make the 9 hours trip to Lagos, meet with clients and deliver merchandise. He left and the next day, he called to tell us he quit.

Fool me thrice, shame on me you would say. Well what I remembered most about this incident were the debates between me and my business partner. Who from the start disagree with hiring this driver and certainly disagreed with giving him two more chances. It was a long quiet drive together down to Lagos and I left any remaining pride I had at home, because it will be sad to argue with my partner knowing fully well I was wrong from day one.

While everything turned out fine, we recovered the van with the merchandise intact and paid some Lagos hoodlums (Agbero) before our clients even knew anything was amiss.

Looking back on this delivery driver Mr. Tosan, I remember also having a bad feeling about him from the start, and certainly after not showing up the first time. My pride and desire to be right however got in the way of the rational decision to move on.

Today, I go more with gut feeling and will be the first person to admit when I am wrong.

What do you think about hiring? Please share your hiring story.

Jobs/Vacancies / My Experience Searching For A Job (no Jokes) by Robertkenny(m): 9:18am On Jun 03, 2021
Egbeosa Sunday.

Looking way back in the year 2014, immediately when I finished my NYSC service, I was eager to look for a promising company that is organized and has a good service as well. Less I forget I studied accounting in Edo University Iyamho, before moving to Lagos to serve and plan for my future.

Back to my story.

I shared my c.v to some of my highly connected friends to help out in securing a job for me, which I waited for several months with no positive feedback from anyone of them. I was forced to connect with an HR company to get the best job, which I paid 10k for registration with an agreement of getting 10% off my salary for the first 6 months of my resume in office. They said the money will be used to check, monitor and secure my activities in the office including but not limited to health and any other problem I come across in the company. Sounds protective you will say!!

Of course I agreed, paid and signed the agreement form that was giving to me with a big smile on my face, I submitted my documents having believe of working in a big company. It’s over 3 months with no positive feedback call or text from the HR Company. All this while I have being staying at home doing nothing, rather been asked by my neighbors if there is NEPA light since morning.

I gave myself an extra 1 week before visiting to know the state of my job hunt. On getting to their office I was told the person in charge of my job search case is not on sit, is either I come back next time or wait for some minutes for his arrival. I had to wait knowing fully well there is nothing for me to do at home, I took a sitting position and sat for some minutes, I was bored so I took a nap, about an hour later I requested for the person in charge of my job hunt, immediately someone stepped in and introduced himself as Mr. Vincent “Infarct I just finished sharing some copies of your document to 8 companies that are actively seeking to recruit new workers, which I assure you will bring forth a good result, you don’t have to worry yourself coming over to check I will personally give you a call”. I was happy to hear this, so I requested for his mobile number in case of any question from my end, which he gave me without any second thought. Feeling excited I head home hoping to get the best job within few weeks or month.

Now it over 2 months after my visit with the HR company, I remembered collecting Mr. Vincent mobile number so I quickly gave him a call and immediately introduced myself and asked for my job search result, then he started saying things I don’t understand “Mr. Sunday I was about to call you now the Lord sees my heart, we’ve tried all the company within our reach, but they’re not actively employing for now. Don’t worry there are other company locations outside our reach which we have connections to other agencies that will effectively get you your dream job, I only need you to send me 10k to be able connect with other agencies around”. That right there got me angry I had to hang up the call to avoid insulting an elderly man. With the pain in me I had to take a walk round the street, thinking of what next to do if I don’t get a job soon.

This is really getting serious there are lots of thought going on in my heard right now that I cannot pick out the exact one. Walked straight to the field where many of our community youths come together to play and have fun. I sat alone on a bench far from the goalpost trying to figure out the right thing to do, after some minutes right there I made a stupid decision that I believe would work.

I stood up and held my thought strong believing it will work out fine, so I went back home took some money, went straight to the closest market bought two black polo round neck then went to a printer shop to print on the cloths. This was what I wrote on them “Am a graduate and I’m in need of a pleasant job”. Funny you say? But I did it.

Early in the morning am always at the bus-stop with my cloth on, waiting to take a bus that will lead me to a populated company location where I will start walking round in search of any office job opportunity. I did this for over 3 months without any good result, I thought of giving up this plan but I just spent 5k buying and printing on my cloths.

Then I tried the second week of my fourth month of searching for a job, on my way to an unknown location, an elderly woman well-dressed stopped me and asked, if what was written on my cloth was just for fun or am I really in search of a job? As a sharp guy I quickly answered her, I am in need of a job and I got lots of experience in accounting plus am a graduate. After long chat, she gave me her business card for an interview in her work place very early next week Monday, with a great smile on my face I said “Thank you ma” and she walked passed me.

Got to the company very early in the morning like she said, then I was directly interviewed by unknown men, they were four in number and very intelligent in asking questions. To cut the long story short, within 3 working days I was called to start work on Monday for the position of financial secretary with a monthly salary of 120k.

Guess what!! The woman that stopped me and gave me her business card is the current and forever the CEO of GoldStripe Company Limited.

Jobs/Vacancies / What It Was Like To Tell My Kids I Lost My Job by Robertkenny(m): 9:38am On Jun 02, 2021
Mrs. Juliet

I was with my husband on March 31st, it was 3 or 4 o’clock in the afternoon and I took a phone call from the owner of my company, the president and COO. He informed me that my position was being eliminated.

Significant changes had to be made to the small, family-owned business I worked for due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Coming from leadership, I understand. I worked for Skymack communications, a publishing company here in Lagos, for over 13 years. I was senior vice president of operations, client service and account management. The majority of the clients I worked with were in the airline space, so Covid-19 had huge impact on the area of the business I managed.

Even though being let go is not a personal issue for me, when you get that call from your boss, it’s quite a shock to the system.
I love the people that I worked with. And I have never been unemployed.

This was a first for me, and I had to tell my kids.
The first person I told was my husband. We went for a walk because I just wanted to takeout bad thought and feel free. It’s so overwhelming that you don’t want to think about the “What if”.

I cried when I told my husband, but it wasn’t sadness that I felt. I didn’t feel a connection to my job title such that it was a loss of my sense of self. It was more, “Well, what am I going to do now?” Or maybe it was because you have to say those words: “I’ve been laid off.” I never said those words before.

But I didn’t actually tell my two girls, who are 12 and 16, for almost a full 48hours. I just sat with it first. I was thinking, “How am I going to tell them that I have been laid off”?.

My girls have seen me get up and go to work their whole lives. I don’t believe they tied me as a person to my job, but they do understand that my job provides money for the family to live.

I was really trying to figure out, how do I tell them without scaring them? And how will I keep a level of composure?.

The third day I told them. Schools in Lagos were closed, so my daughters were homeschooling. I called them into the living room, sat down and told them that I had been let go from my position at work. I was crying while telling them.

They both sort of looked at me and they said, “Well, what does that mean for us?”

How you handle yourself is everything when it comes to how they’re going to respond, so I immediately composed myself.
“Well, we’re probably going to have to make some changes initially, but as a parent let I and your dad focus on that. I don’t want you to worry about that” I said.

My eldest daughter got angry and frustrated at my employer. “Aren’t you important? Don’t they think you’re valuable?” she asked with a sad face.

“I am valuable” I said. But my value has nothing to do with my job. I’m valuable for a lot of other reasons.”

“I will find a job that makes me happier, a place to work that values me, a place where I want to be” I said. The girls asked questions about money too. I have a loan to pay and other bills. “Yeah, we’re going to have to make some changes, for me to be able to pay back” I said.

“I’m going to have to really work to get another job or figure out what my next move is” I said.

For now we’re good. My girls and I are stable and we’re happy. We have made some changes towards managing most things around us. For instance with food shopping, we are not particularly frivolous, but now we are much more careful.

Also there is no “I need does cloths just because they’re beautiful or I want to do online shopping for me and my girls”. They know they need to be conscientious about what they ask for. And they have been fantastic without reminder.

And I have not stopped my job search, but I am not obsessing. Right now everything is fine, but that won’t last forever. So I am trying to determine what my new normal is going to be.
