The health of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has worsened as he had been diagnosed with gastrointestinal disorder following persistent heartburn, his lawyer and human rights activist, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, said on Monday.

According to him, despite the order of Justice Binta Nyako of a Federal High Court in Abuja that the IPOB leader should be given serious medical attention, the Department of State Services has been acting on the contrary.

Kanu has been detained in DSS custody for about 14 months and is facing trial in court over alleged treason charges.

Ejiofor raised the alarm in a statement after his visit to Kanu in the custody of the DSS in Abuja.

While stating that court orders must be obeyed, particularly where the order has not been set aside, he said the DSS is a creation of the law and must not be seen to be operating above the laws of the country which created it.

He said, “Presently, Onyendu is experiencing gastrointestinal disorder, which requires regular intake of antacid and other availing medical solutions, following persistent heartburn. Unfortunately, the DSS have denied him the least of the prescribed pain killer tablet that could provide momentary relief.

“Following this development, our erudite lead counsel, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN) has immediately swung into action to ensure immediate end to this maltreatment and impunity. Nevertheless, we still deem it compelling to place the world on notice, that should anything untoward happen to Onyendu, the DSS and the Federal Government of Nigeria should be held responsible.

“Highlight of the visit was to review other pending litigations initiated against the Federal Republic of Nigeria for their grave violation of international laws and treaties in their criminal abduction and extraordinary rendition of Onyendu, sanctions and reparation arising from this act of state terrorism.

“The visit also afforded us the opportunity to review the overall welfare of Onyendu, as well as the level of the DSS compliance with existing court order in the management of Onyendu’s health condition.

“For the records, it is pertinent to reiterate that for the umpteenth time, the lawless DSS have continued to treat with greatest contempt/disdain, the existing court order, which specifically directed that Onyendu should be allowed access to his personal medical doctor for an independent review/investigation of his current health status. This is following the continued depletion of his potassium level.

“Regrettably, this court order is gravely flouted with impunity by the DSS, as efforts made by Onyendu’s personal doctor to see him at the DSS facility where Onyendu is currently being detained was rebuffed/rejected by the DSS. Enough is enough for this seemingly impunity!”

Kanu also extended his love and appreciation to all his supporters for remaining firm and strongly holding the fort.

Ejiofor said he was particularly impressed with their uncommon civility, even in the face of endless provocations, with a call on them to keep it up, while believing strongly that God’s grace “is leading us towards overwhelming victory, which is no longer far fetched.”

4. He has continued to improve himself and appearing visible in various discourses about the state of the nation. Some governors who ruled during Peter Obi’s time have since been forgotten.

5. He is frugal and not wasteful like the regular politicians.

6. He is neither a religious nor an ethnic bigot.

7. He is free of scandals and controversies of any sort.

8. He is very educated and creative with very bright ideas.

9. He is youthful and extremely loved by the youths of the land.

10. He is a fresh breath and not a product of the corrupt political establishment.

And how about him hiding his assets in Pandora to avoid paying taxes to the FG? He will do even worse if elected. Bad choice for a president

A 24-year-old female skit maker, Annastasia Olamma, has said her family is against her decision to donate one of her kidneys to Sonia Ekweremadu, daughter of a former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu.

Olamma had on Tuesday made the offer after Sonia announced that she needed a kidney donor because she had been diagnosed with rare kidney disease, FSGS Nephrotic Syndrome.

Sonia made the announcement on social media months after her parents were arrested in the United Kingdom and charged by the UK Metropolitan Police with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.

Reacting, Olamma stated that she was ready to donate her kidney to save Sonia and would want nothing in return.

The offer came weeks after the skit maker trended on social media for begging to be married to veteran Nollywood actor, Kenneth Aguba, who was homeless at the time.

She wrote on Facebook, “I (Annastasia Michael Olamma) want to donate one of my kidneys to Sonia Ekweremadu to save her life. I have made up my mind to do this to prove women can help women.

“If any of her relatives, mum, dad, and siblings cannot give out their kidneys to save their bloodline, then I will donate my own to save Sonia and I demand nothing in return. I pray it matches with her own.”

However, Olamma’s family members kicked against her decision, forcing her to take to Facebook Live to plead with them to allow her to go ahead with it.

“Yes, my family members are against it. I expected that initially because when my dad got to know about it, he wasn’t cool with the idea. He was like ‘you want to go and kill yourself?’ My family, I know this thing might hurt you people but please I am begging you… I wish to save somebody’s life. Pray for me so that nothing will happen to me. Pray for me so that the whole thing will go successfully,” she said.

Ekweremadu’s counter affidavit
Meanwhile, Ekweremadu, asked a Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday to dismiss the suit filed by the alleged organ harvest victim, David Ukpo, seeking to prevent the release of his bio-data to a London Court.

In a counter affidavit to the suit, Ekweremadu stated that Ukpo has no reason to be concerned about the release of his visa application information and bank account opening package unless he lied about his true age.

The detained legislator in the counter affidavit deposed to by his immediate younger brother, Bright Ekweremadu, denied the allegations that he demanded Ukpo’s bio-data.

Rather, the deponent averred that what the Federal High Court ordered to be released to London Court was Ukpo’s bank account opening package and the information supplied in his visa application request.

Ekweremadu said that based on a July 1, 2022, order of the court, the required documents have since been transmitted to two different courts in the UK.

The Senator averred that it was too late in the day for Ukpo to seek reversal of a valid order that had been executed to determine his real age only.

He, therefore, prayed the court to dismiss the suit for being frivolous, an abuse of court, and lacking in merit, having been overtaken by events.

At Tuesday’s proceedings, Ukpo’s lawyer, Ojonugwa Oguche, prayed the court to adjourn the matter for him to react to the counter affidavit.

The request was granted, and the matter was fixed for September 20 for hearing by Justice Inyang Ekwo.

Ekweremadu was represented by Eyitayo Fatigun, SAN.

Ukpo, the victim of the alleged organ harvesting scandal involving Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, had on August 30 asked the court to set aside its July 1 order for the release of his bio-data for use in a London court in Ekweremadu’s trial.
