It’s clear. I wouldn’t worry much. But whatever you do, don’t liquidate your investment, if you have to, liquidate the amount for tuition into another account and cos it’s another war if you liquidate and reapply, they will call it lump sum. If you are lucky a good visa officer will understand, if not, another unmerited denial. So the second question, what financial institution did you use?

What also struck my eye is the pension thing, did you present your whole pension as spendable, if you did then that’s not true. Have your PFA do a letter stating that 25 percent will be available 3 months after, I always advise that have your main money and let your pension be an addition.

Honestly. If I didn’t have a job, or I didn’t explain why I am carrying 13m to study it can be admitted it’s not a reasonable expense. I even attached a research pay scale of how much a compliance officer of my caliber should be earning if I had a masters. They didn’t even factor in the fact that I had paid 28k of my tuition. My efforts were watered down. I was even more concerned it was cos my uncle is sponsoring me, but that didn’t even come up.
Lol I’m rooting for myself also. Thank you so much.

Bobomaigida:

The VO did not review your file diligently, he/she/it must have made a cursory glance on the documents,n said woo, l can't approve this o and plucked a yeye reason for denial.
You have a strong case for JD. I am rooting for you.

Lol, I have a job, I am a management staff, even explained how I was made acting managing director when my md resigned and I was considered as his replacement but I didn’t have the qualification. I’m going for masters of global management. I got study leave and my board gave me a commendation letter.

I explained that I had my funds in a fixed deposit account and I liquidated it for purpose of my bank statement. I attached fixed deposit letters showing I had been holding the funds since June 2020. My uncle gave me money November 2020, my mum gave me in March 2021 and I immediately paid my fees with it. I think I stressed it in two parts in my sop attaching gift deeds and all the docs in this life. Reasonable expense in itself is an unfair word and it should never be used, the VO has overdone and overstepped on its reasons, whether reasonable or not, the idea for all of us going to study is to improve ourselves.

Still they didn’t read that. The lawyer said I can do all things right in my next application and still not get it especially when there’s a bias of lump sum.

I have done GIC and paid my tuition, so once there’s a settlement I present it as additional documents. I just don’t want the 2nd refusal in my immigration record.

Enjay316:
what course are you going for and are u presently employed?

to me I would have preferred u trying once more after paying ur full tuition and opening d GIC plus liquidating ur cash.A well constructed letter of explanation, addressing all this,ur new steps to proof ur funds would help.Except if u dont presently have a job or ur job that u are coming back to is not well sort after hence the "reasonable expense" clause.Judicial review takes time though with this ur profile, I know u will succeed by Gods grace but it takes time nd money

Always keep your application number private.

For safety reasons, either you crop it out or blurr it.

Can someone help me with the mail of their Addis ababa office or How do i get in touch with that office and also can i send mails to the secondary office too. Is that safe. Thank you

Look, it can swing anyway. He doesn’t necessarily have to send you the money, he will just say he’s supporting you. Even if it’s a lump sum sent, it’s going to be backed up by a letter of support and gift deed and it’s your dad, hardly ever a problem if the lump sum is coming from him. Just weary of the money being paid from a company account. Vos don’t know how these things work, once it’s company they wonder why a company will sponsor you, they will have denied you before they realize it’s a family business.

I may be wrong and this is plainly my opinion, self sponsored applications are getting approvals more, sponsored application from parents or spouses come second. Anything company, I will advise you just get a consultant to handle it. Like

I just submitted last week but I hear it generally takes 2-3 months. My JR cost 3k cad but I was allowed to pay in Naira, the lawyer only advised me of the exchange rate. And payment was per milestone for me so I can rest from paying the first half. next payment is when another milestone is achieved possibly, settlement.

Different lawyers with their payment terms. I hear some lawyers even charge 5k but 2500 is the cheapest I have seen, with beg. If you get something cheaper, I can’t guarantee the lawyer will be that good. Good lawyers with good reviews usually cost 3k and above.

etin06:

On the average, what is the cost of JR and duration it will take ?

I duno but with the way I feel about visa applications now, if you can avoid many checks please avoid. Business can just be ties. Let your dad be your sponsor and he can transfer whatever amount he wishes from his personal account to you. It’s more straight forward and direct. Then your dad can show that he has a viable business and it’s for the family and you are directors. I duno really; don’t assume visa officer should know however the company funds should be used. Avoid probing if you can.

NmaEbube:
It’s a family business, my dad is the MD and my mum, brother and myself are Directors. Does it make it hard still?

This isn’t the only one I am seeing. Someone here also got assessed by same Officer. It’s unfortunate the person can’t afford JR. They are aware of who can and who probably can’t from your profile and level somehow. Very common once you are not self sponsored. I paid the price and opted JR cos going for reapplication is less certain

username12:
Nice observation. This looks like a trend for that VO. It'll be good if he/she can be reported to any higher authority. The VO is clearly not being professional and thorough in assessing people's hard fought applications. Wasting people's time, energy and money is a crime
Let other applicants that got similar refusal reason check if it is the same VO
Travel / Re: Canadian Student Visa Thread Part 20 by RollyA(f): 9:23pm On Sep 24, 2021
As i suspected.

Same Officer assessed our application.

Please consider JR, there’s already an error which you pointed out and that alone shows a gap. You don’t have to pay for the assessment, I’m using Ugo and he looked at my application file and my notes. He will tell you straight up if it’s worth it.

RollyA:
Same bloody reason, not really different. And I think it’s the same visa officer cos that code is familiar, I will check and revert.

Was there a board resolution? I duno. My advise, share your profile with a lawyer. The annoying part is once it’s like this, they may use same reason to deny in your next application. If you can afford it, please consider it.

I do hope the lump sum was clearly explained cos mine was explained in two places in my application and it was ignored. Once they see lump sum they just get weird. regardless if you explained it properly you have a good case to fight

BolaT53:

Good evening I’m a silent reader but I have a concern my application was refused based on personal asset and financial status. My aunt was my sponsor we don’t bear the same surname she sponsored my undergraduate degree throughout my years in school provided evidence, she has paid my 1year full tuition for my and sent me my living expenses though when it came in it was a lump some and it came few days to when I had submitted my application. I did not submit any landed documents or personal assets in my name I submitted her corporate account statements about 45m and my own personal statement with 5m she sent me alone how do I address this Abeg and the company is a charitable organization and she owns it.

If you have other options please take it. Sponsorship on its own is dicey for even family members at times from uncles or extended members not to talk of Company sponsorship.

Except there’s no other option, but if it’s a limited company, be sure there’s a board resolution sealed explaining disbursement of the funds.

NmaEbube:
is submitting proof of funds in a company account wrong? Cause I plan on using a company’s account as proof of funds.

lol. i am a lady by the way. despite the fact that I showed sponsorship letters o! I have held the funds since June 2020 in fixed deposit, I liquidated when they refused me cos my first note they said they didn't see any proof of finance, felt ok, they don't understand what fixed deposit letter looks like. now I liquidated and reattached the fixed deposit letters, explained properly that my savings were in fixed deposit and the money my sponsor gave me and i liquidated for purpose of MBS, yet they say it's lump sum and it is not a reasonable expense (like they are financial advisers) after paying 80 percent of tuition and showing over 12m in cash. Las las, some ppl destiny na once, some na twice, some na three times or more, some na judicial review. Im awaiting good news in the midst of it all.

It seems to be the regular denial reasons especially when you have sponsors. do you have sponsors?

My own notes show they probably did not check my documents properly to even know i have sponsors. They did not also factor in the fact that i had paid 28k out of my 33k tuition. My lawyer thinks it is a good case and i have applied for JR. on top of that i have finished paying my fees and transferred 10k to cibc for gic, so hopefully if i get a settlement, these steps taken will help.

let us know what your notes say.

my notes are out.

Lump deposits are sums received from my sponsors. One from my sponsor since November 2020 and another received by my mum in April which I used to pay my fees. With all the letters of sponsorship and gift deed I attached.

Was the source queried? Who was the person to you? It’s tougher now, I will try other banks next week as my bank, wema bank told me all these. Sourcing dollar isn’t the issue, but establishing the source and whatever.

I do. I have gotten USD at a good rate but I have been told if the person transfers, cbn will want to establish source of funds and what transaction we did. It can only happen probably if a family member or something transferred, not a third party not related to me in anyway.

My bank says it can’t do more than 3k USD, the payment instructions were 12k usd. The option is to source black market and put in dorm and initiate.

If I may ask, what bank did you use? Did you buy from black market, if not, how did you do yours? The other issue is if I source from black market and deposit, CBN will query the source. So the funds have to be something I can prove

What feedback did you get from your bank?
All you need to do is to take the payment instruction to the bank and fill a foreign fund transfer form. The bank will process it. Ensure you have the sum you want to transfer in your dorm account (in the selected currency).
