Seun - My simple point is that computer whizkids (title!) need to acquire business skills to make it. That means having both.cool then, And who told you I don't know the entire history of Bill Gates? Please don't insult me with your cut and paste job.All i did was back up my point with some quote, and i cited the source. That has nothing to do with anyone memorizing another man's ENTIRE history Anyways, no hard feelings, we are all just sharing our opinions. |
When it comes to Bill Gates? I would recommend reading up maybe like a book on how he became so Rich? Was it his skills for computers or the skills of Business that helped him? It seems as if you can't read what I wrote above, so I'll repeat it. I said it's his business sense that did it.I disagree on that one, I believe it was both: Business and Computer skills. How can you overrule the vast knowledge and skill he had at a very young age and his achievements prior to windows etc. Even though, the windows ideas might have not been genuinely his, his overall accomplishments were not simply based on his business skills. according to wiki "At the end of the ban, the Lakeside students (Gates, Paul Allen, Ric Weiland, and Kent Evans) offered to find bugs in CCC's software in exchange for free computer time. Rather than use the system via teletype, Gates went to CCC's offices and studied source code for various programs that ran on the system, not only in BASIC but FORTRAN, LISP, and machine language as well. The arrangement with CCC continued until 1970, when it went out of business. The following year Information Sciences Inc. hired the Lakeside students to write a payroll program in COBOL, providing them not only computer time but royalties as well. At age 14, Gates also formed a venture with Allen, called Traf-O-Data, to make traffic counters based on the Intel 8008 processor. That first year he made $20,000, however when his age was found out they lost a lot of business." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Gates The man was extremely versatile. By the way, just because he did not complete university degree program at Harvard does not mean he did not attend university - as widely misinterpreted. |
Another clear example of lack of direction, instead of worrying about the purchasing power of Naira it is whether a religous inscription should be on it.- True, since, we would not longer have any non-nigerian language on our currency, we can now worry more about the value of Naira ![]() |
STOP SPREADING RUMOR, he was only hospitalized. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/6425875.stm -- he was flown "abroad" for treatment as usual, I guess No Nigerian hospital was good enough for him. This again begs the need for him "Yaradua" to fix our health sector if he should ever become president. |
I don't see any threat with mcDonalds coming to Nigeria - they can't "colonize" our food sector . However, I see something wrong with foreign oil companies "colonizing" our oil industry sector, drilling the hell out of our oil and not putting back most of the revenue from it back into our economy. |
I have observed that hyperlinks on Nairaland such as: www.takemeawayfromnairaland.com redirect users to any specified site, as opposed to opening up a new window. I will suggest that you make provision for hyperlinks that will open up new window whenever a link is clicked on nairaland, Keep up the good work! |
OBJ has a world class University too, bought many corporations, oversees petroleum ministry fr seven years don't u think his name should be included, infact he should be number 1True! However, he is concluding his term, and hopefully we can elect an honest Nigerian who will probe OBJ for his loot. Having said that we still don't want another OLE like Atiku |
http://odili.net/news/source/2007/mar/4/312.html I really don't see the point why any reasonable citizen will support that Arabic should be on any Nigerian currency. |
What about exportation of processed goods rather than raw materials? Maybe art? Is there any room for that?- Finished products will not only yield lots of revenue, but also povide more employment opportunities for Nigerians. Supposing I want to export maybe movies. How will I start? Maybe a vissit to the Export Processing Commission?- I just wanted to add I've met a good number of people from West Indies\ Islands in the US seeking Nigerian movies. I beleive the market for Nigerian movies abroad is growing; hopefully the quality of our home videos will do the same! |
mactao - keep up the programming enthusiasm -- the future is bright |
Again how can I bind Textbox control to datagrid such that I can Type in Datagrid cell using VB.NetThat statement threw me off. anyhow, sorry I wasn't of too much help, Goodluck |
- Am not quite familiar with MSHFlexgrid Let me clarify though, You are not actually binding to the database, but you are binding (including your textbox) to a dataset (or resultset returned - in memory). This means that you will not only have the textbox to input data, you can also prepopulate the textbox if needed. For example dim sConn as String |
ISHMAEL Most US employers advertise job openings on CareerBuilder, Monster etc. Try searching for job opening for COBOL or FORTRAN programmers and see what you get. Don't just sit down there, and talk about how much FORTRAN programmers earn in the US. I can walk you through it GoTo: www.careerbuilder.com in the Keyword field: type in FORTRAN or COBOL -- see what you get, I tried it -- u can guess -- I got only 1 for both then type in JAVA or .NET -- see what you get -- so many i lost count Drop your pride and explore newer technologies and don't just argue about how much COBOL/FORTRAN developers make in the US |
Below is a breif guide on how you can bind a textbox to a datagrid, set your AutoGenerateColumns="False" -- eg <asp:datagrid id="dgResult" Runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False"> then define the textbox: <asp:TemplateColumn HeaderText="Period Control Begin"> To bind (database) table column to textbox, in the textbox definition set: Text='<%# DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem,"PutNameOfColumnHere" You can reference the TextBox from the code behind as follow: dim txtBox as TextBox I hope this will help, You can also search on google for more help, Let me know if this was of any help |
Candylips My friend, don't you see the bigger picture -- getting a certification is really nothing special, but the motivation at that young age is what's fascinating. obviously if he his patient and determined enough to read for the exam, and pass it, learning how to code should n't be much of a challenge. |
Twelve years old, JSS 3 Nigerian boy, Nyemahame Allwell Worgu has equalled a record set by another 12 years old Pakistani girl in mastering the Sun's Java program.http://odili.net/news/source/2007/jan/28/23.html This is pretty impressive. If more young Nigerians can look in this direction, the future of Nigeria's IT sector will be bright. What do you guys think? |
my2cents - I am not a programmer I think I can speak confidently on this - I am a JSP developer and just put up my first PHP website as a side projectI don't get it! How can you possibly be a JSP developer, but you are not a programmer -- sounds like double-speak to me. |
When you say school management software, do you mean Academic Enrolment System? Well it is a very complex solution;I definitely agree. It will require a team effort to plan, design, and implement a reliable, robust, less erroneous application of such. Otherwise, you might end up with a sloppy app that isnt worthwhile |
you should consider existing accounting softwares eg. Microsoft Great Plains, SAP, Peoplesoft etc. It takes a whole lot to design and implement a full package accounting software. |
-BIOYEI co-sign on that! lol |
[table][tr][td]Thatz the problem with you guys; simply because you don't know or use fortran u begin to discourage those who are learning it. For your infomation FORTRAN programmers make big money in the US and UK.[/td][/tr][/table]Ishmael - You sound like you have a little passion for Fortran, well I must agree with Rock2 a little - Fortran77 is quite out dated. Please understand that I am not trying to be obnoxious. But at this present times, object oriented programming is ideal. Using the same effort you put into programming Fortran, you can always explore more recent programming languages. However, I can understand if you are using Fortran for just specific tasks that it is most suitable, or school work. Anyhow, It's still quite unfortunate that our Nigerian universities choose to teach older languages instead of newer ones. Perhaps, the professors do not have training and knowledge in 3GL and 4GL languages. You won't find too many schools in the US that still teach Fortran. |
*Just to clarify -- you do NOT have a bug; you only need a little help However, It's a little hard to help you in this case since I cannot see the code. First, what kind of applet are you working on? is it a jApplet? From your post I suspect that you might be a little new to Java. The easiest and fastest way to get help online is to search for tutorials on line. You will find tutorial online on almost every topic. But if my assuption about your experience with Java is wrong then, you might find this a little useful: =========================================== String[] items = {"item1", "item2"}; JComboBox cb = new JComboBox(items); // Add an item to the start of the list cb.insertItemAt("item0", 0); // Add an item after the first item cb.insertItemAt("item0.5", 1); // Add an item to the end of the list cb.addItem("item3" ;// Remove first item cb.removeItemAt(0); // Remove the last item cb.removeItemAt(cb.getItemCount()-1); // Remove all items cb.removeAllItems(); ========================================== Assuming you are using a JComboBox as your dropdownlist, this should do the trick for you: cb.removeAllItems(); - It removes all items from the combobox. Since you are working with a data file, you will need to read the data from the file, and add them to the combobox. You can get help from this link: http://www.devdaily.com/java/edu/pj/pj010004/pj010004.shtml or better still, you can always search on google for more help |
- possible final year projects: explore designing and implementing a suitable algorithm for Traffic light systems in Nigerian cities. Implement your algorithm with any language of interest. or (client/server) network programming for sending data packets over the network eg TFTP. This will give you some good programming experience. You can do some research on google to learn more My2Cent-- Good thinking however, you will need cooperation from banks to implement a suitable solution. But i suppose that if anyone can come up with a convincing prototype of a reliable, secure electronic payment solution, HOPEFULLY most banks might be willing to support. I do have a little experience with electronic payment solution. I am interested in patnering in a project to effect an ePayment solution in Nigeria. With the help of web services, xml, web appl (.net or jee) etc we can come up with a good solution Any interested enthusiast out there should PM me at cashrolls2@yahoo.com |
What areas of computer science are you most comfortable with; that is Networking, Programming, Databases, algorithms etc? This will help in recommending a suitable project for you |
Java Tutorial http://java.sun.com/docs/books/tutorial/ But first, you also need to download and install the Java api, ide, sdk, jre -- Don't worry, you will learn all about what you need when start with the tutorial For more tutorial or references on any language whatsoever, search on google. |
I am trying to copy data from another dataset then save the new dataset into my database. Below is my code. The line hightlighted in red assigns my dataset (containing copied data) to the grid's datasource and displays the copied data just fine. However, after calling the DBAdapter.Update, the copied data is not commited into my database. In a Nutshell -- The output displayed on the grid contains copied data while the data updated to the database doesnt. Can tell what i'm doing wrong? Thanks =============================================================================== Private Sub UpdateDataBase(ByVal ds As DataSet) Dim dbConnString As String Dim dbConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection dbConnection.ConnectionString = "Data Source=ServerName; Initial Catalog=DB;" & _ "UID=uid;PASSWORD=psw; Trusted_Connection=false" dbConnection.Open() Dim DBCmd As SqlCommand DBCmd = New SqlCommand("Select * from [Table1]", dbConnection) Dim DBAdapter As New SqlDataAdapter DBAdapter.SelectCommand = DBCmd Dim DBds As New DataSet DBAdapter.Fill(DBds, "Table1" ![]() DBds = ds.Copy() DBds.AcceptChanges() DBAdapter.Update(DBds.Tables("Table1" )DataGrid1.DataSource = DBds.Tables(0).DefaultView DataGrid1.DataBind() DBds = Nothing DBAdapter = Nothing DBCmd = Nothing ds = Nothing End Sub |
On Access bank website, it took me close to 1 minute to load a page when I selected an option: "Lease a Car" under "I want to:" dropdown menu. I'm browsing on a T1- LAN connection, so connection speed is not an issue from my own end. This is not acceptable from an IT professional standpoint. Their is more to a website than just its looks and feel. However, the site appears to be better than several Nigerian websites I have come across. |
Does anyone know if eclipse is compatible with Sun Java System Application Server. that is, can you register the SJSAS with eclipse? I tried a few times but i'm still having difficulties with it |
