Uruguay have one foot in the knockout stage after beating Nigeria, 2-1. This was a matchup of what had been two underwhelming sides in their first matches. Nigeria looked sloppy against an overmatched Tahiti, and Uruguay offered little to stop Spain. Both were looking to get a critical win, especially given each side's next respective opponent. It was Uruguay who struck first. In the 19th minute, Diego Forlan got on the left flank and delivered in a low cross. Edinson Cavani looked to attempt a backheel but whiffed. The pass instead landed at the feet of Diego Lugano, who completely scuffed the shot attempt, but it went into the goal anyway. You don't get points for creativity, so that goal counts all the same. It was very poor defending from Nigeria as they didn't clear the corner kick and failed to properly mark either Cavani or Lugano. Video here: http://gbengatoye..com/2013/06/confederation-cup-nigeria-vs-uruguay.html John Obi Mikel leveled the scoring in the 37th minute. It was a nice piece of dribbling after Mikel received the pass from Brown Ideye. He looked to be taking a shot with his right foot but put it onto his left and fired it into the back of the net. See the video here: http://gbengatoye..com/2013/06/confederation-cup-nigeria-vs-uruguay.html After the goal, Uruguay started to lose their hold on the match. They looked shaky at the back at times and didn't create much going forward. It was the shell they crawled into against Spain as well. Halftime couldn't come early enough for the Uruguayans. Luckily they only had to look at a 1-1 draw rather than a losing deficit. Uruguay went back ahead courtesy of Forlan. He's long been the engine for Uruguay, but he can't do it at 34 anymore. He is, however, still capable of scoring the occasional wondergoal. On his 100th cap for Uruguay, Forlan was running on goal down the left. You would think that any near-post effort would be knocked away. Instead, Forlan hit it so high and hard that Vincent Enyeama had no chance. See the video here: http://gbengatoye..com/2013/06/confederation-cup-nigeria-vs-uruguay.html ###Sorry I had to put the links to the page where I saw the video here. And as a side note, if you know how to insert video clip into article on dis forum, please share with me.... Enjoy the great goals, I like the one by Mikel Obi though |
@seunfly, that's the point "We all must av one goal" even the bible makes it so clear, "Can two walk together except the agree (unity on purpose)?" but we live today in a Nigeria whr evry one goes into politics with their selfish ambition. Even those making the law placing themselves b4 d Masses. Righteousness exalts a nation, sin is a reproach to any people (Proverb 14:34) |

Got this from one of my friends on BB, feel touched and wish to share it. Before going to bed, I had to eat something. I opened the fridge and yes, all the things in my fridge had turned to block; the light had been on for 8 years without going off. I finished eating and went to bed. Oh I have to reduce the speed of this fan, the voltage is so high. I woke up very early in the morning to the sound of classical music. I casually strolled into the bathroom. Oh! the cold is too much this morning, I turned on the hot-water tap. While towelling myself dry, I turned on the radio and heard the presenter speaking of how Nigeria is now one of the most developed countries in the world and how the Nigerian president yesterday declared his asset and all he had to boast of was N20 million naira and a duplex in his village. I finished dressing up and took my time to eat. I had no reason to rush, afterall the road is always free and there are no potholes. On the way, I saw a few policemen patrolling and I greeted them. I stopped to chat with them for a few minutes after which I drove off laughing. In my workplace, I saw some people loitering in the waiting room and discovered they were here to be interviewed. I saw the son of the permanent secretary. I also saw a young man with tattered shoes and patched-up trouser; he graduated recently from one of the government universities, but everyone could testify to the fact that he's brilliant. While going home that day, I saw the man with the tattered shoes smiling and I asked him why. "Sir, I've been given the job." "What! What of the Permanent secretary's son, didn't his father call beforehand? "No" the man said, "He didn't". That evening, I went out to play in the neighborhood, I saw Adamu and Obinna discussing the recent trend in the country, of how Mallam Danjuma is now the governor of Rivers state, Senator Abifarin Oluwafemi is now the governor in Borno state, Mr Chijioke Godffrey is now the governor of Oyo state. Then I had a Mosquito bite on my nose, as I slapped my face. I woke up realized that I took large dose of cough syrup...Chai!!! NIGERIA OF MY DREAM!!! www.gbengatoye..com |

The Minister of State for Education, Nyeson Wike, has denied the Federal Government scrapping of NECO and JAMB sequel to a recent report which generated mixed reactions amidst stating that the recommendations as contained in the Steve Oransaye report had been adopted. Mr. Wike made the disclosure during a meeting with the Senate Committee on Education, Thursday, in Abuja. The Minister who appeared alongside the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Registrar of JAMB, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde and head of NECO, Promise Opala, stated that the Federal Government had at no point given a directive for the scrapping of the examination bodies. He explained that the report about the Federal Government scrapping of NECO and JAMB was a calculated ploy by “mischief makers” to destabilize government by overheating the polity. He said: “There was no time that this government scrapped NECO or JAMB; it is unfortunate. I do not know where anybody got that information. “What I want to assure is that whatever will be done will be done in the interest of Nigerians. “The ministry of education supports the existence of NECO and JAMB, but what people should know is that the Oronsaye committee said why should we have NECO when we have WAEC.” The Minister of State for Education further pointed that the Federal Government could not possibly on its own scrap both bodies without recourse to the National Assembly over an amendment of the law. “For government to scrap, there will be an amendment sent to the Senate. Where all these rumours are coming from we don’t know,” Wike added. Source: www.gbengatoye..com |
