What is wrong with your baby's head? Soft spot or oka ori as its locally called is a normal thing in all newborn babies. The fontanelle is left open to aid in the birthing process and closes gradually! Forcing it to close prematurely may cause more harm than good.

If you notice your babies fontanelle is sunken please up his feed and offer water as he may be malnourished and or dehydrated.

The sunkeness doesn't hurt them it's the hunger and thirst that makes them cry, sleepless and loose weight.

Most of our parents were not as enlightened as we are now so many of them may still subscribe to the soft spot as a deformity and claim it's appearance as a result of the mom eating plantain and the likes which is absolute balderdash.


The only time you should be worried and seek medical help fast is if the fontanelle is bulging! Which may indicate an infection or pressure build up in the brain.

Not give pcm ke? That nurse is joking o. I was also asked to give my dd every 4-6 hours when she took the first dose 4 weeks ago.

What's his weight? 0.4 does not work within 3 hours, give his weight x 15. E.g.if he weighs 4kg, give 0.6 (4x15=60=0.6). 6kg = 0.9 etc.

Repeat every four hours while he's running temp but please don't give more than three times in a day (3 times max within 24 hours)

Also this formuler is for local paracetamol e.g.emzor, panda. Please don't use with the butti ones like calpol.

Please massage the thigh he took the injection with COLD water if it's hard/swollen. If possible wrap icecubes inside a towel and use.

Sorry about the temperature, can be really stressful. Calm down, pray, administer pcm. If you can, back the baby and be dancing up and down.

My hospital (national hospital) they ask us to give pcm every 3 hours. I wonder y the nurse asked you not to. They even ask us to massage d spot gently with warm water.

if u have baby pump, u can use it to pump his stomach with warm water

my 5 weeks old as not pooped for 8days now.
I know exclusively breastfed babies can go 5days but is this not too much!

though he urinates and fart well, (those type of continuous farting )
I've taken fruits, I massage his tommy with warm water, I've also drip warm water in his anus. he does not seem to be in pain too

what else can I do?

mine was 10 days post op, d plaster was removed n i was told i can now bath. Bt i think it depends on d hospital n d procedure used cos my sil wasTold to do so abt 6-7days post op.
