Fubara Makes Me Weep- Wike Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has said that he often wept because of the alleged betrayal shown to him by the suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara. Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, made this statement during a media parley in Abuja on Monday. “When I go back in my quiet moments, I play the video of speeches of the governor (Fubara), what he said, what he did to me, I weep,” Wike said. This was as he dismissed the allegation of undermining the opposition party by serving in the administration of President Bola Tinubu. “I am still in PDP. I worked hard for the party,” Wike asserted. “I have not seen anybody who has the guts to tell me, ‘Wike, you are not a member of the party.’ Who is that? What is his contribution to the party that is more than me? “No one will take me from the party. I’m a member. In fact, I’ll lead the PDP campaign in Rivers by 2027.” Wike also revealed his delight in challenging powerful persons, especially in his role as FCT minister. He said, “Look at what we are doing differently. People have said that FCT was not working (but) now it is working, which means I’m doing things that they (past FCT ministers) refused to do. “I found out that most of them didn’t have the courage to annoy people, to step on toes, but I take joy when I step on the toes of big men; those who say nothing will happen, but I say something will CONTINUE READING Also Read: Barr. It will be purely in line with extant laws and regulations guiding the process.” The revocations were carried out under Section 28(5)(a)(b) of the Land Use Act, which empowers the government to reclaim land when the terms of occupancy are violated, the statement said. Tunji-Ojo said the individuals, who were declared wanted by several European countries, were apprehended within two days of entering the country. He said the arrests were possible due to recent investments in surveillance and intelligence-gathering technology at the country’s border points. The minister spoke on Tuesday at a regional workshop on maritime border security themed “Regional Maritime Border Security in the Context of Counter Terrorism in the Gulf of Guinea”, held in Lagos. He said the suspects originated from countries including Italy and the Republic of Ireland. These people would have come into Nigeria 18 years ago, but now we know that in terms of our air terminals, they are in sync because it’s integrated into the central system.” Tunji-Ojo said Nigeria now has an Advanced Passenger Information (API) system that allows authorities to screen passengers before arrival. He said the API enables immigration officials to assess passengers’ records, travel history and personal background in line with international protocols. He said: “Now, we can tell you that Nigeria now has an API solution. We never had that before now. “Before now, we were one of the few countries without an API solution, without the opportunity for our immigration officers to pre-profile people coming into Nigeria, not being able to query their background, query their record system, query their antecedents and their travel history. Jonathan Cautions Politicians: ‘One-Party System Dangerous for Nigeria’s Democracy Former President Goodluck Jonathan has warned that turning Nigeria into a one-party state would harm the nation’s democracy. Jonathan made his displeasure known while speaking in Abuja on Wednesday during a memorial lecture for the late elder statesman, Edwin Clark. “Any nation that must practice it must do so carefully and with a well-planned process and projected outcome,” Jonathan said. His comments come amid concerns over growing defections of opposition politicians to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and continued internal crises in opposition parties. Many believe these are being influenced by President Bola Tinubu and his party to weaken the opposition. Jonathan stressed that trying to create a one-party system through manipulation and selfish ambitions would be dangerous. According to him, any attempt to bring about a one-party state through political machinations to soothe personal aspirations will be detrimental to the country. He also urged the family of the late Edwin Clark to set up an annual memorial lecture in his name, to promote his vision of a united and fair Nigeria. Also speaking at the event, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, expressed concern about Nigeria’s current direction. He said the labour of heroes past was already in vain pointing to poverty in rural areas, insecurity, and the high cost of living. : : : ...... https://leadnaija.com/jonathan-cautions-politicians-one-party-system-dangerous-for-nigerias-democracy/ |
NTSB Reveals Cause of Crash That Killed Wigwe The United States National Transportation Safety Board has attributed the helicopter crash that killed former Access Holdings CEO, Herbert Wigwe, his wife, son, and three others to pilot error caused by spatial disorientation. The NTSB report, released on Wednesday, further indicted the helicopter company, accusing it of “inadequate oversight of its safety management processes”. This was contained in the NTSB final report unravelling the reasons for the helicopter crash in February 2024. Preliminary report had earlier shown that the helicopter, registered as N130CZ, crashed while operating under visual flight rules in what ultimately became instrument meteorological conditions, requiring different flight protocols and instrumentation. According to the report, investigators determined the “probable cause of this accident to be: the pilot’s decision to continue the visual flight rules flight into instrument meteorological conditions, which resulted in the pilot’s spatial disorientation and loss of control.” The crash, which occurred near the California-Nevada border on February 9, 2024, claimed the lives of all six people on board, including Wigwe, his wife Doreen, their son Chizi, and Abimbola Ogunbanjo, former group chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc. The US accident investigators further revealed that the helicopter company failed to ensure pilots properly completed flight risk analyses, recorded maintenance issues, and followed required regulations before departure.
