Which state Is this?
They once tried it with me at one petrol station in gwarimpa, in Abuja. I just put the keg in my boot, paid for the petrol I bought and zoomed off. I don't have time for nonsense.
That's a ploy for attendants to make extra money.

Lagos state to be precise around Ogba. Even the customers that are meant to be supporting you against this illegal charge will be mocking you because they think the money is too small.

The money is not an issue but for the fact they claim what they're doing is legal. Even the new fuelling stations that just got opened around the area didn't take long before they started joining them.

Crime / Is It Legal For Fueling Stations To Charge 50naira For Using Jerricans? by RubiesBanking: 7:13pm On Aug 24, 2021
I just stopped near one of the fuelling stations around my area to buy fuel, and I noticed this issue of fuelling stations deducting 50 naira on the basis that they're not meant to sell fuel to customers using kegs.
Is it legal what they're doing? And it's almost in every single fuelling station they do this sort of thing.
The worst thing about this is if you argue it out with them, they will just take the fuel they sold for you and sell it to another customer whose ready to pay.

Phones / Facebook Is Letting Religious Groups Charge Users $10 Per Month For Exclusive Co by RubiesBanking: 9:02am On Jul 27, 2021
Facebook is trying to persuade religious groups to partner with it, The New York Times reported.

The Times reported that Facebook has been courting religious groups since at least 2018, but it's made even more effort over the past year.

The Times spoke with the Leaders of the Church of God in Christ church, which recently trialed two new tools from Facebook to help it make money. The first let worshippers donate to the church while watching livestreamed services, and the second was a $10 subscription service for exclusive content, including messages from the bishop.

The Times also reported that, last month, Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook's chief operating officer, held a virtual summit for faith leaders in the style of a religious service. At the summit, religious leaders discussed new products Facebook had been trialing for their groups.

"Faith organizations and social media are a natural fit because fundamentally both are about connection," Sandberg said, The Times reported.

On Thursday, Reuters reported on Facebook's recent push to appeal to religious groups, saying the company introduced a new "prayer" tool in May.

Facebook did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment.

Facebook has been partnering with religious groups, The New York Times reported.
A US church said Facebook gave it access to new monetization tools.
This included a $10 monthly subscription for exclusive content, including messages from the bishop.

"Our hope is that one day people will host religious services in virtual reality spaces as well, or use augmented reality as an educational tool to teach their children the story of their faith," she added, The Times reported.

Mark Zuckerberg, Facebook's CEO, has championed Facebook's VR division, and he said in an interview last week that he wanted Facebook to become a "metaverse company" — meaning consumers would interact with it in 3D, rather than through their phone screens.

Education / Have You Ever Looked Directly At The Sun During A Solar Eclipse? by RubiesBanking: 7:22am On Jun 09, 2021
I have read articles talking about how looking at the sun especially during a solar eclipse can cause a permanent eye damage or a hole in your retina.

Even watched a video by a guy named Mark Thompson, who did an experiment to see what will happen to a pig eye if it viewed the sun directly. I have already attached the video of the experiment below.

WARNING...THIS IS GRAPHIC.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9cMXCemoJI

I also managed to get a few comments from people who made the mistake of viewing the beauty of nature during a solar eclipse with 0% protection and how it regretted that mistake.

Sometime in the early 80's, 82 or 3 I think, there was a solar eclipse. We were TOLD, no idea who, but the rumor was that it was safe to look at it through exposed x-ray film.

So, we lined up outside Lexington hospital ER with our exposed x-ray films in hand and stared at the solar eclipse that afternoon.

It was an amazing thing to see. And when it was fully covered it got dark and very cold from the noon heat that we're used to. I remember a very very bright searing light and a flash sort of then it went away. The lights came back on and the afternoon heated back up and everything returned to normal.

Life happens and you move on. I started using readers many years ago, but no big deal. That's just part of aging.

About 10 years ago while driving I had a big brown perfectly round spot appear in my right eye. Wouldn't blink out, or go away. The left eye was ok. Pretty much freaked me out.

The next day, the optometrist examined it and the first thing he asked was am I right handed, I said I was.

The next question was 'have I ever looked at a solar eclipse?' I said yes, but that was in the early 80's. And "they" said it was safe if we used x-ray film.

He said they were wrong. Then he said you have a burn on your right retina that's perfectly round and consistent with a burn from looking at a solar eclipse. Sometimes the damage takes years to show up, in which it did in my case. Stress and aging can cause it to swell and become visible.

I was working in the cath lab and had a particularly long day and was hurrying and rushing to Lexington for a ceremony to honor Leeburn Ray Harris at the band room when it occurred.

There is nothing that can be done for it, it's irreparable. It's sort of like macular degeneration.

Over the years, the brown spot has gone away unless I get really tired, which I try to avoid because, well..I love sleep.

But my vision in my right eye is severely impacted from a rumor of what was safe. I was young and would try most anything at least once. I can still see out of it, but I only see really big letters. My left eye has accommodated to help it out.

I didn't write this from the victim standpoint because the world needs less whiny victims.

I wrote this to let everyone know to take this upcoming solar eclipse seriously; it's not play.

I have no intention of looking at it again. Don't have but one good eye so I can't lose it.

Be sure to check with an eye doctor about the safest way, if there is one, to look at this phenomenon coming up.

Just a tip.

Don't risk it.

Be safe.

Not me, but 3 friends of mine lost a bet a while back. They each had to stare at the sun for a couple of seconds. One came out okay, but the other two got some form of color blindness. It was a shame because one of the two was a successful graphic designer, but it worked out. He now asks his SO whenever he creating something if the colors are okay, and he goes on as normal

Despite all these stories on the effect of looking at the sun especially during a solar eclipse, some guys feel it's a hoax by scientists (won't blame them since they're used to hearing how eating beans and plantain is bad for your health).

An annular solar eclipse will occur on June 10, 2021, when the Moon will pass between Earth and the Sun, thereby partly obscuring the image of the Sun for a viewer on Earth

Now, my question is anyone here is suffering from an eye damage caused by looking at a solar eclipse or know someone that made the same mistake?

Phones / Elon Musk’s Starlink Satellite Internet Targets Late 2021 Launch In Africa by RubiesBanking: 6:03am On Mar 04, 2021
Starlink, the satellite internet constellation being developed by SpaceX, targets Africa’s coverage in late 2021 and 2022.

Only Nigeria may expect the late 2021 launch, while other African countries should have access to Starlink satellite internet service in 2022. To be part of the early users, you have to join the “Better Than Nothing” beta programme because it takes about six months to fulfil a pre-order. You can pre-order on the Starlink website for a refundable $99. The Starlink kit, which includes a mounting tripod, WiFi router, and terminal to connect to the satellites, costs $499.

It is important to note that coverage across countries would vary (see satellites map). With only about 1,300 satellites launched as of February, “users can expect to see data speeds vary from 50 Megabit per second to 150Mbps and latency from 20 milliseconds to 40ms… There will also be brief periods of no connectivity at all”, Starlink says on its website.

Elon Musk, the founder of SpaceX—the parent company of Starlink, has said speed will double to ~300Mbps, and latency will drop to 20ms later this year. He added that Starlink targets most of the populated Earth by the end of 2021 and total coverage by 2022. Thereafter, it would be “about densifying coverage”, Musk said.

Starlink’s goal is to have about 42,000 satellites constellation in orbit by 2027. But the Federal Communications Commission and the International Telecommunication Union have approved only 12,000 of its satellites.

What are the limitations of Starlink satellite internet?
Satellite internet is best for low to medium population density areas. It can also provide internet access to areas where broadband is unreliable or unavailable. However, with a monthly subscription of $99 (that’s about ₦37,000, which is more than the ₦30,000 minimum wage) and $499 (~₦190,000) for the Starlink kit, most people in developing countries may not be able to afford it.

Hence, some analysts had criticised the satellite internet project. They argue that Starlink and its ilks won’t deliver internet access at prices people in developing countries can afford. “It’s a bit like trying to make up for lack of roads by building cars that don’t need them “, Mark Summer, CEO of EveryLayer, told Wired.

Facebook and some of the world’s largest telecom carriers, including China Mobile Ltd, heeded satellite internet critics’ advice to deploy the internet the old-fashioned way, especially in developing countries. In May 2020, Facebook announced that it has partnered with leading African and global operators to build 2Africa, the most comprehensive subsea cable to serve the African continent and the Middle East region.

The regulatory framework SpaceX would have to comply with to operate Starlink in African countries is also unclear. For instance, it is required to obtain a licence before it can operate in South Africa.

Last month, the Independent Communication Authority of South Africa (ICASA) said it is having discussions with SpaceX regarding Starlink. Because to operate Starlink in South Africa, SpaceX would need to obtain an Individual Electronic Communications Network Service (I-ECNS) and Individual Electronics Communications Service licence.

Nawa o.. Be like na 2go Trump go finally settle for o, as e dey be.. cheesy..

But on a serious note, we need decentralized social media platforms built on the blockchain technology. Platforms that are transparent and focus on users' freedom: like users having total control of their data without fear of it being sold to third-party organizations; like users having rights to their privacy; like users having freedom over their Contents - right to add, delete, edit their contents without restrictions and without being subjected to the strict rules of the owners of these platforms, etc.. These advantages far outweigh the disadvantages..

"Decentralized" platforms like Steemit, Relevant and Vid are capable of disrupting their centralized rivals like Facebook, Twitter Reddit, etc.. But we need them to be completely decentralized for this decentralized revolution to be successful... Hopefully, Nairaland will be decentralized in the future.. cheesy

Back to Donald Trump... I suggest he use Telegram or Signal.. Especially Signal.. A platform recently recommended by Elon Musk himself..

But left for me, I suggest he should use one of the decentralized platforms... It'll make the decentralized platform and the blockchain technology even more popular..

Cos...

The FUTURE is in DECENTRALIZATION.. The future is BLOCKCHAIN..

God bless the blockchain technology...
God bless science and technology.
God bless decentralization.
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
