etrange: Lol... you make look like doing what serves human and having a career are mutually exclusive. Career is just an English for the dedication you give to a specific thing that serves human. It's not even about education. It's about dedication to a domain. Just like some people are passionate about football, some people have spent their lives advancing in a specific domain, sharpening thier skills, contributing to the domain and making both a name and money for themselves while at it. When such a person comes online to ask questions like the OP, it is for like-minded people to answer. Exactly 💯 |

sonature1: In terms of infrastructure, the best governors in Nigeria are (in no particular order):
Udom Emmanuel Dave Umahi Babajide Sanwo-Olu Prof Babagana Zulum Nyesom Wike
Others need to take classes on infrastructure from those five.
Worthy mention: Nasir El-Rufai but didn't make my list because he cannot compete with the 5. Where is Kano state governor? |

TRANQ: I was working in a big food company in Nigeria as a Production Supervisor, after 4 years I was getting a burnout, I had to resign when my leave isn't enough to recover, I became recharged after 3 months and I started working as a contract staff in a multinational food company as a Quality Technician. I was feeling lucky already but after a month I was laid off along with other contract staff and it was so promising I was going to be converted to a normal staff, I had to stay back at home than necessary. Fast forward after 3 month again I got an offer in a multinational chemical producing company as a Production Supervisor.
If there is anything I have learnt in my year of work experience
1. Before you respond to a query always sleep over it, in the morning you will find clarity, dont respond outright 2. You have no friends at work 3. Before you resign, have another job waiting, nothing is promised. 4. Its depressing being jobless in Nigeria. 5. Contract job is no job in Nigeria
I hope you picked one or two things here This is the sauce thank you |

Whatever. Just do you. Good one |

TechBaron: I remember when I resigned my job at the bank trying to get into tech.
Saved up some 1m and designed Tshirts for amazon in their merch program.
8 months down.. The 1m had depleted down to less than 100k and the amazon gig wasn't paying that much.
Omoh. I con dey see shege small small....
Luckily for me, before the shege metamorphosed into shege banza, I secured another job with a small financial institution.
Career break!
Save a lot of money. A lot of it. The Nigerian labour market isn't like abroad where you can get jobs easily.
Make sure you have a side hustle or business that can take care of you. Not one one kobo... I mean a side gif that can pay your rent, feed your family and you still have small change left.
Else..... Career break go turn to compulsory early retirement. It's well..... I'm working on a plan and will flow with it......will update this forum with whatever move I take on this |

emmanuelewumi: The street is not smiling. You can only appreciate your job, when you are jobless for 3 months.
You can take a career break if.
1. You have an emergency reserve that can take care of your expenses for 12 months.
2. You have a side hustle, that gives you up to 50% of salary
3. You have been saving all your salary for the past 6 months and above.
4. You get passive income cash flow from rents, dividends etc and the income can take care of your expenses for at least 6 months. A lot of sense here...a lot So I intend to work on a 3-6months plan of - Keep evaluating my work environment - Seek an improvement in terms of pay or assistant or other work options like hybrid - Get important tools that I will need money for - Save up - Keep looking for other side opportunities My current work is too chooked up and gives me no time to do other things and it's not good for me |

Printerscanner: Village people have made a sculptor of you. They have started manipulating the head.
If you take a break, you will break down completely. Don’t try it. Don’t let your village people to rejoice at your downfall. J did it once, I regretted it. Luckily, I am a computer professional, so it was a little not too difficult to get another job, but I am still regretting the break till date. As a matter of fact, I have ....... I don't see any village people here.....I'm not going to wake up and jump into career break...I'm taking all the steps evaluating my current options including possible renegotiation of my job and then whatever happens next, I will be good to go.. |

WorkaholicB: Meanwhile this is a company where when I first resumed as a manager, the sales and profit was very small because the former manager and his accountant mismanaged the funds and siphoned some. Since my resumption, the figures have continued to increase on a monthly basis. This is not acceptable Present your case with management and renegotiate your take home... First find out how best to go about it and then push your case.... |

Ynix: In an unstable economy like Nigeria, your focus must be economic stability and to achieve that you must understand how to use the principle of entry and exit. Know when to enter a place and when to leave, but before you leave ensure you have maximize your opportunities. 1 It all begins will having a purposeful vision and a 7-10 years plan of progression That will make you develop more skills to be strategic in your field or choice of endeavor so that even when you are silent you are noticed 2. That you have a functional wealth creation and wealth management plan that can carry you upon your exit 3. That you have the right networks that can pull strings for new installation for you.
All I mentioned is what politicians don't joke with. You made a lot of points here and I quite appreciate the details.....I have experience and the right skillset in my field and not lacking with interview opportunities anytime I show interest in a role...Although they are beautiful growth opportunities in my current work place, but they tend to overload someone without compensating one properly that's just the issue.... I will take your advice and work on a plan |

WorkaholicB: I write with a heart full of resentment. This is because despite all the effort I placed on self development and discipline, nothing to show for it. I am 35years of age, married with 3kids and a masters degree holder. I work as a manager in a big fast food in South South Nigeria with a good managerial skill and results yet I live like a pauper. The salary is not upto 80,000 yet I work from 8am-9pm every day. My effort gives company millions every month yet they are stingy to give a good pay. There is no time to do another business. Now my house rent has expired and I cannot boost of 20,000naira in my account. So I ask, what is the essence of hard work when there seem to be no tangible benefit. I really need out but how do I do that when I have family to cater for. I cannot afford to be out of job for even a month. Please I need advice. What should I do? This is difficult to accept You know your contribution to the company and yet you haven't find a way to get them to better your pay or sort of find another option? Even a single person can't manage on that salary talkless of you that has 3kids... It's well |

My people.....have you ever taken a career break? When is the right time for one to take a career break and is it workable in a society like Nigeria where everything seems hard and most jobs are not easy to come by.,,......
I'm asking because pleasure at work now has become so intense and it's taking other things away from my life..,..that my regular leave days will not suffice.....
But how do I explain that I just walked away? How I'm sure that I can quickly get something else once ready to return to work?
Would advice will be highly appreciated |
