ednut1: Most of you people in this forum are misinformed if you think majority of abians actually voted Ikpeazu in the last election. They are tired of Pdp misrule in that state. The guy rigged himself for 2nd term. The people's choice was Uche Ogah of APC who is now a federal minister. Mark my words, Abia will be APC by 2023. Other pdp governors in the SE are performing well and APC would have won Imo if not for imposition of unpopular candidate like we saw in Ekiti, Ogun and Bayelsa. 1 Like |

OgogoroFreak: The electronic voting is better if we have the requirements in place. E-voting will cost less and save lives too. Many countries still use manual voting and still get good results. Our problem is INEC. If INEC can conduct elections devoid of bias and party interference, the situation will be better. If these challenges are not defeated, even if we adopt e-voting, INEC and our politicians will still manipulate and rig it. I don't see how a president would appoint a person as INEC chairman and that person won't be loyal or sympathetic to the president. For instance, GEJ didnt exert his influence on inec but same cant be said of OBJ and Maurice Iwu or Buhari and Yakubu. We say INEC is an independent body but it has to show its independence by finding a way to choose her leader without FG's intervention. |

Nothing lasts forever. PDP thought this way too and see where they are now. I think APC won't last as long as PDP because their style of governance is very crude. Another party(not PDP) will one day be formed to take over from APC. |
Politics / Re: 30 ‘missing’ INEC Staff Found by Rumxy(m): 5:44pm On Nov 17, 2019 |
OgogoroFreak: My brother even the electronic voting will be difficult to pull off because we don't have a central data base that captures all Nigerians. Ben Bruce suggested using sim cards but we know it won't work because sim registration is flawed and one person can own multiple sims. NIMC are not serious at all, if not NIN would have been used. The best option would have been the use of BVN but there are still eligible adults especially in the core north that don't operate bank accounts. 1 Like |

LegendHero: Seriously I think a disciplined soldier taking over this country will be the best solution. I don't think we are ready for real democracy. I just wish the military can sanitize this country. Then refresh the whole system and start a new democratic process by 1) Amending the 1999 constitution to reduce too much power on the centre. 2) Adopt a two party system like in 1993 elections. 3) Adopt a 6 year single tenure for elective offices. 4) The winning party must form a coalition government with the loosing party to incorporate everybody and avoid jumping from one party to the other. This will prevent the ruling party from being too powerful like the days of pdp from 1999-2015. This is just my humble opinion. 1 Like |

LegendHero: The thing tire me sef. Everytime the FG complains there is no money for meaningful projects like road rehabilitation and job creation but when it comes to elections, they budget hundreds of billions yet politicians will still rig. That is why I don't risk my life to vote for anybody no matter your party because all Nigerian politicians are the same. Well make we just dey endure because the matter no start today, na since 2003 like you rightly said. |
Literature / Re: Chinua Achebe: An Icon Beyond Nobel Laureate Award by Rumxy(m): 2:17pm On Nov 16, 2019 |
Achebe was the author of the first African novel to be taken seriously by anglophone critics and to be influential outside Africa; and thus to demonstrate to his contemporaries that the thing could be done. That's no mean achievement in itself, and worth any number of prizes.

NGpatriot: Did you actually read my statement very well, that he currently doesn't hold a public position now does not exonorate him from being part of the leadership problems we have been having in Nigeria. He was once a governor and currently an APC leader. If he can use his position as an APC leader to place his boys in top government positions, he can as well influence government policies directly or indirectly through those his boys. As for making baseless allegation against people I love. That I love a quality in a person doesn't mean I will foolishly support every action of that person blindly. As for those in jail, Joshua Dariye and Jolly Nyame are not top elite politicians and Maina is a civil servant. That only 2 ex governors have been convicted for corruption since this democratic dispensation is a testament to how our judicial system works. That is why I said nothing will come out of this case. Even though this case will be difficult to prove in a court of law, we all know what the bullion vans were meant for on that occasion. If you really have conscience and mean well for this country, you won't come out in a public forum like this to defend such act. There is always a limit to tribal and party sentiments. We are Nigerians first and need to stand up to these greedy politicians, if not for our sake, then for the future generation. |

NGpatriot: Anybody that opposes your views on anything APC or Tinubu is a hater or tribal but I won't continue arguing with you. Infact, I admire Tinubu's political acumen but he is part of the leadership problems we have been experiencing in this country. You are innocent until proven guilty but it doesn't work that way in Nigeria. No elite politician irrespective of party has/can be jailed for corruption in Nigeria because they will always manoveur our judicial system. If you truly believe Tinubu or people of his likes are not corrupt, that's left for you and it means either you are not a Nigerian or you are benefitting directly from them. Anyway goodluck to you 3 Likes |

wirinet: But he went to the same US during elections. We as Nigerians do not need Obasanjo or the US to tell us who is corrupt or not. Going by your logic, Abacha was not corrupt as alleged by Buhari. Even Obasanjo we all know is no saint. If Tinubu is not corrupt, please can you outline his businesses before 1999. If only we can look at this from the angle that you want the best for this country and not through party or ethnic affiliations, you will see that these politicians have looted this country dry. In a typical Nigerian fashion, nothing will come out of this case because Tinubu is one of the few untouchables in this country. I weep for Nigeria because the future looks bleak with all these politicians still at the helm of affairs. 4 Likes |

I don't support any political party in Nigeria but the greatest hypocrisy I have seen here on nairaland is WHEN YOU ACCUSE ATIKU OF BEING CORRUPT BUT YET CALL TINUBU A SAINT. If those of you supporting this act of corruption can be honest to yourselves, in a saner clime where nobody is above the law, EFCC would have have investigated this issue a long time ago. The timing was even wrong, on the eve of a national election, what will you be doing with 2 bullion vans in your house? Bullion vans are meant to carry cash and sensitive materials. The video clip he said that it was his money and its nobody's business has confirmed the vans were carrying money. This bullion van bruhaha was a bad move for Tinubu no matter the outcome of the case. 3 Likes |

Pettyprincess: My dear, beauty alone can't keep a man especially in marriage. If you like don't wisen up. Only dumb girls like Regina will agree to be a 6th wife because they don't even value themselves. A virtous woman would have known that with her God given talent coupled with hardwork, she would have still become rich with time and her pride and dignity would still be intact. But greed, lust for material wealth and shortsightedness have made her derail. I am certain baba olowo will still marry another wife and her chapter will close. My dear try and emulate people like Omotola, Mercy Johnson, Omoni Oboli etc. They are beauty with brains with happy and fulfilled marriages. 4 Likes |

candidtalk: You are the sentimental one here. Obj is not "the right Yoruba" to you because he was very detribalized, thats how selfish and tribalistic you sound. Considering the economic situation he inherited, he still remains the best president we have had since 1999 and mind you he was not controlled by any cabal. He understands the north and their gimmies perfectly well, that's why they fear him. |
Politics / Re: Babachir Lawal Says Tinubu Will Make A Good President by Rumxy(m): 12:31pm On Oct 19, 2019 |
Those flying Tinubu's presidency upandan, have you forgotten that he is a Muslim? Do you guys expect the north to present a christian? A Muslim/Muslim ticket can never fly in this country with the current ethnic and religious divisions. We should be clamouring for a qualified southern christian and there are many options. GEJ's case was an exception because he came through the VP position. Moreover, we no longer need known corrupt men to lead us as a nation. At least we have intelligent people with a certain degree of integrity that can rule us. Buhari is very popular in the north because they believe he has integrity, their religion forbids corruption. That was why Ganduje almost lost his election except for rigging, that was why they voted out Bauchi governor and finally why they didn't vote Atiku. Tinubu is notorious for being very corrupt except for few yorubas who think otherwise. That he picks technocrats to do the job doesn't take away the fact that he enriches himself more from them being in those positions. How wealthy was he before 1999 but he practically owns everything in Lagos now. Now imagine what will happen to Nigeria if he becomes president. The future of Nigeria should not lie in the hands of people like Atiku and Tinubu for Christ's sake. We have credible and sellable candidates from the south that can rule us. |
Politics / Re: Who Is The Best Governor In The South East Since 1999 ? by Rumxy(m): 4:47pm On Oct 15, 2019 |
DarkJeddi: You are spot on. Obi is both a realist and an idealist. He set the bar so high that Obiano didn't have any option than to perform. He made giant strides in education, rural development, roads and created the enabling environment for businesses to grow.Without his fiscal responsibility (a phrase not often associated with Nigerian politicians) which made the state debt free and also leaving billions in cash and assets for his successor, Obiano would have struggled badly like many of his counterparts who are burdened with inherited debt. Peter Obi is to Obiano what Chime is to Ugwuanyi. They laid the foundation for good governance in their states. In the near future, Umahi's successor will also benefit from his works because he has also set the bar so high in Ebonyi, that's if the person chooses to be Obiano or Ugwuanyi to continue the legacy. |

Both Pdp and Apc candidates are stooges of Dickson and Sylva respectively. Its now left for Bayelsans to choose which godfather they would prefer. Apc has the advantage because David Lyon is more popular and accepted than Diri. Dickson should allow Diri to campaign for himself. I can see Fayose's mistake repeating again. 1 Like |

majamajic: It is even an insult comparing Imo state governors to their Abia state counterparts. Udenwa, Ohakim, and even Rochas were far better than any governor from Abia. Abia is cursed with very bad and rotten leadership. The solid structures still standing there were mostly built by Sam Mbakwe. Aba is one of the cities in Nigeria with very huge economic and human potentials yet the government can't fully tap into these resources to become great. Anambra realised this with Onitsha and nnewi, look at where they are today. When it comes to bad governance, Abia stands alone in the SE. Umahi is really making sure Ebonyi is catching up with the rest in infrastructural development and if this current trend continues, Abia will board last. 4 Likes |

MERCHANDISER: He did very well but not the best like you opine. Moreover, his tenure was too short (3 years) to completely judge him. He performed below par as a senator that was why he was voted out of the senate. If the people really cared about his party, he wouldn't have been a senator under ACN (the only senator in ACN from SE then )despite contesting against the likes of Prof. Dora Akunyili who was in APGA with Obi's backing. |

1) Peter obi 2) Sullivan chime 3) Willie Obiano 4) David Umahi 5) Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi These are the best governors so far from the south east since 1999. Honourable mention: Chris Ngige(opened people's eyes on what good governance truly is but tenure was too short to make the list. Worst list 1) Theodore Orji 2) Chinweoke Mbadinuju 3) Okezie ikpeazu 4) Martin Elechi Biggest thieves 1) Orji Uzor Kalu 2) Rochas Okorocha 3) Theodore Orji 4) Chimaraoke Nnamani The 2nd republic governors by far outperformed all of the above considering the meagre resources at their disposal plus the larger states they controlled. They delivered top quality infrastructure projects that are still standing today not all these china roads and buildings being built by today's government despite the billions. Honorable mention: Sam mbakwe(the weeping governor) 5 Likes |

MoneyMan5: Maybe I should remind you when Osun state became an IDP camp and people were sending food stuffs to a whole state just because of non-payment of salaries. this can never happen in Igbo land because most of us are entrepreneurs and do not depend on the government for feeding. When I told you majority of you are salary earners, you said it's a lie. this situation was a true reflection of what I meant by that.
