Kenya should strive for this. Jayceon: |
I had to check this and turn out they are bus companies. Kenya has several of those plying east africa countries. Africa Commuter Services Limited. Coast Bus (Msa) Limited. Blue Horizon Travels. Arusha Shuttle Bus. Blue Line Shuttle Company. Bustrack Limited. City Hoppa Limited. Crown Bus Service Limited. Modern Coast. I was thinking you're talking Logistics - where kenya has several mncs (trucking goods all over east and central africa) - with several trucks - with largest being Multiplier hauliers with more than 3,000 trucks. Signon has more than 1,000 trucks and are shipping & air logisitics. I could go on and on..but I doubt Nigeria transport sector is as modern as kenya- forgiveness: |
Outside mining you don't all that power. Kenya doesn't do any serious minning or heavy industries. Only the cement companies in kenya consume a lot of power but rest of manufacturing that we excel in is light manufacturing of fast moving goods. Kenya 2000mw is more than enough. The power supply and demand is at 10% annually. What matters is to keep that power on all the time. We have 2000mw but we get 10 Gigawatts hours per annum. Nigeria with 4000mw get 1/3 of that. That tell you most of nigeria power station are not running 24-7 as they are supposed. most of the time they are broken down...2/3 of the time. Typically a household using electricity to fire home appliance and lighting doesn't even need 1kw per day! but one gold mine or cement factory can gobble 1,000 mw of power. iblawi: |
all kenya towns and villages have 24-7s as long as they are connected to the grid. power is only cut during maintenance (soon to end as we trial live maitnance) - and maybe transformer vandalism. kenya is at 60-70% connection (every slum or hut or village) and by 2020 - any structure in kenya will have 24-7 power. Unlike Nigeria nature which has been spoilt by oil - kenya remain pristine destination for leisure travels -willing to pay to dollar to sleep in simple cabins. https://edition.cnn.com/video/world/2010/11/17/mckenzie.kenya.royal.engagement.cnn.640x360.jpg https://enhols.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/Main-living-area.jpg https://www.africasafarireports.com/wp-content/gallery/rutundu-log-cabins/rotundu-log-cabins-3.jpg |
Yeah certainly richard branson thought they were worth; and in Kenya you are not allowed to build a slum inside a national park; it has to complement the enviroment and cause as little change to nature as possible. No sane kenyan would go writting or speaking that stupid language of yours. It the reason why Kenya has very large BPO sector serving English speaking countries - call centers. Who will hire an nigerian when your accent will get on your way. Even expats and tourist have big problem going through your thick accent. You call honey - horn.y - money - monie - husband - hoseband -and you think your english is great?kenya Business Process Outsourcing - https://www.kencall.com/kencallsite/wp-content/uploads/2015/07/KENCALL-Ltd-513x343.jpg https://www.theeastafrican.co.ke/image/view/-/928666/highRes/145912/-/maxw/600/-/gu7y5m/-/PIX1.jpg darknetcom: |
You actually did give yourself that title by cooking statistics. Right now even if we take your N90 trillion dollar at face value - and use official usd exchange rate - your economy is about 200b usd. Nairobi alone has more structures than probably nigeria - which you'll call barracks. darknetcom: |
Having ugly buildings and an ugly language (pigdin) doesn't make it Africa. Call that Nigeria. Is it coz you don't have beaches and resorts? Kenya has more structure than nigeria - and structures that complement the nature. Not shady ugly slum cities. Kenya beaches and resorts are worth serious dollars. You cannot sleep in some if you are not willing to spend anything upto 1,000 usd per night. This will set you for 400-500 usd per night sharing. What Nigerians are learning is that size is nothing. Big is nothing. Having all that Oil count for nothing. You've to be smart. You have to make it count and Nigeria giant right now is crawling. They can't make use of all that human resource (180m) and all the incredible natural gift of oil (billions of barrels) they've been blessed since 60s-70s. It shameful. Look at Safaricom with 2/3 of Kenya telcom market share (equivalent of MTN South Africa - make that Nigeria )It just has 24M subscribers but check it financials. Nearly 2B dollars worth of revenue (MTN Nigeria -last I checked was 2.5B from nearly 70M subscribers!11). It set to make 700M usd profit before tax. It set to be worth 10B USD -market cap. Safaricom has less customers than Glo - 10-20m less - but you can't compare the value proposition and multiplier effect safaricom has on the economy. https://businesstoday.co.ke/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/safaricom-share-price-2-1-1024x724.jpg |
Misplaced anger. You should be angry at Nigeria gov for taking your for big ride for years. I mean the amount of billions from oil that you gov has earned if it was half-decent would be enough to make you a developed world. Selling 3-5% of world oil is big money. But look at you know..instead of revolting against your thieving gov..you're engaging in mindless online rant against kenyans who despite not having a barrel of oil...is doing waaaaaaaay better than you. I read this article from economist and really feel sorry for you guys. This all the power in your main grid. https://cdn.static-economist.com/sites/default/files/imagecache/original-size/images/print-edition/20160305_MAC628.png http://www.economist.com/news/middle-east-and-africa/21693971-nigeria-has-about-much-electricity-edinburgh-problem-powerless darknetcom: |
Lame. Just admit Nigeria is cesspit that nobody with an option to go elsewhere want to stay in except if they were prospecting for oil. Who want to live in place without electricity - and with noise & smoke of generators renting the air- i mean kenyan slums enjoy 24hr of electricity and waters supply. Fix electricity first -which is baseline for development - and people may want to move in and do business in Nigeria. The whole nigeria receive less electricity than Nairobi. Naiorbi receives more than 5GWH of electricity with Nigeria receive 3GWH. The 4,000 mw of power stations are barely running, are bankrupted, not maintained and transmission of the little power they manage to get out is non-existent. In reality the amount of electricity in nigeria main grid is about 500MWs. 68816419: |
It was predictable. They were running on empty and now there cooking excuses that kenya is so far ahead coz of whites and asians while their only working part of the economy - oil -which is now also struggling - is controlled by Shell & Total -real foreign companies. Kenya indians, kenya arabs, kenya somalis and kenya europeans are kenyans. They are not foreigners. They are residents here. Somali were first to move to kenya thousands year ago. Arabs along kenya coast have been here for 10 centuries - since 10-12th century. Indians and White been settled in kenya for 100yrs. They are now maybe 5 generations of Kenyan indians and whites. Nigeria is a cesspit coz the country lacks the dynamism that all these diverse group of people bring. If only they had lebanase like ghanians or the dynamic kenyan indians - their economy would certainly be better than just waiting for petro-dollars to come- and their igbo, hausa & yoruba squabbles would be less intense --we won't have biafra & muslim-christianity deadly fights. I mean we are talking about country where it's gov struggles to pay salaries -salaries that are a third less than Kenya's. That has budget of 20-30b usd to provide services to 180m. We are talking of a country whose central bank and statistics body release data that are obviously cooked. Nigeria according to their stats body has 8% unemployment and you know how they do that; they ask if you've work (any job) a few days the last week or so. South Africa with credible stats have 28% unemployment and kenya is 40% - coz we don't count farm hands or herders or informal black market economy. |
What is perceptual and reality rank? This must be only rank out there than ranks Lagos ahead of Nairobi in anything serious. Just type this in your google - Nairobi City rank - and see what comes up. Just today TravelBird - ranks Nairobi world 74th Most Inspiring City. Few days before that -Nairobi City ranked among top 20 successful cities globally - Nairobi is regularly rank top with Joburg and Capetown in Sub-Sahara Africa. Now type - Lagos City Nigeria rank Topmost -The 27 cities with the worst quality of life in the world Oxtonguy: |
Nigeria (and many african) cities can learn alot from Kigali - which was equally like most of Nigeria cities - but kagame is turning it around. Nairobi is lucky to have inherited a world class city from the British - all they had to do is to maintain it - and they've done a good job at that. The pictures from Nigeria are so few and in so small resolution - these guys are really struggling - coz if you enter google image search - and type LAGOS OR IBANDAN- what you see is slum city. Nairobi has thousands of pictures taken at all level coz it a truly beautiful city folks actually want to photograph and share them. Don't ask our Naija friends to zoom down to street level. https://scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/13092233_295043920827107_791932013_n.jpg https://scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/13150835_752399618236550_1787914543_n.jpg https://scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/12976162_1528619437447236_718093075_n.jpg https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3950/15765025115_6aa18d720d_h.jpg https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7613/16895099452_61809c7cb9_b.jpg https://scontent-lga3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/12747749_1671734586442870_1991723254_n.jpg https://igcdn-photos-h-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-xpf1/t51.2885-15/e35/12331424_765529746884759_1767352869_n.jpg https://c1.staticflickr.com/9/8560/15722580221_e34820b4be_b.jpg |
I am back after being banned (allegedly by antispam bot). There is no way any of nigeria slum cities (even abuja-created from the scratch) can match kenya cities. Even the new city EKo Altantic - cannot much the beautify of Nairobi or Mombasa. There is a lot more to a city that you'll only see in Nairobi and Southern Africa cities - and of course in developed world. Only in Nairobi and Southern Africa cities do you find slums...coz there is clear distinction, rigorous zonning and plan..in Nigeria - you're talking about mishmash of slum next to posh house - entire city is what you could call a slum city. Nigeria cities simply lacks oomph! The least said about their GDP and their wobbly economy the better. Just learnt Angola has overtaken them in oil production. Nigeria is messed up country that is going down fast - usd to naira is now 470 - real inflation is 120% - nigeria gov is busy cooking statistics but reality on the ground is different. Nairobi clear has it! - You want to live, work and play there. https://farm4.static.flickr.com/3596/3468738951_4a90f9d07f_o.jpg https://i188.photobucket.com/albums/z263/ngari_2007/800px-Co-operative_Bank_of_Kenya.jpg https://farm1.static.flickr.com/85/281241436_f465f7b7e1_b.jpg https://scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/13741175_1732017770369597_20775205_n.jpg https://scontent-iad3-1.cdninstagram.com/t51.2885-15/e35/13658435_1222862811091934_824563758_n.jpg Mombasa clearly has it! https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Cn4GUiEW8AAanzY.jpg |
Some Naijas are so delusional they imagine they can compete with South Africa yet despite all petrodollars they can even beat Kenya! Nigeria need to really fix their country.Basic things like reliable power, running clean water, clean and safe environment, paved roads and walkways are still a miracle...leave alone world class infrastructure and buildings. |
They have sea front - that is mostly contaminated by oil - and is dirty as hell. They don't have a beach. Jay254: |
You've got jokes. Ibandan and Lagos can only beat kenya in SLUMSCRAPPERS not skyscrappers. Lagos seem to have build that skyscrapper in 70s and that marked basically the end of it. Nairobi can only compete with Joburg and Cario. Not Lagos. Leave alone the slum city of Ibandan. In skyscrappers, infrastructure, buildings and general livability. forgiveness: |
Kenya has risen to become world largest black tea exporter. Tea is now kenya biggest forex earner and main export by value & volume. The amazing thing is that most of the tea is grown by small holder farmers -about 70%. Can Nigeria hack this kind of work - seem all they're used to is waiting for oil dollars! Tea is mainly grown in Kericho - with really cold temperature and high rainfall. On skyscrapper -https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tallest_buildings_in_Africa.
