Which colonial masters were in East Africa in 90s. Nearly all Africa countries got independence same time in 1960s.

West Africa, North Africa, Central and South Africa hit a mineral bonanza. Some countries made it count - South Africa/Botswana/Namibia/Magreb. Some didnt - Nigeria, Congo and Ghana.

East Africa - Kenya, Ethiopia, TZ, name them - got very little if anything in mineral resources - and for Kenya - even climate consipired against her - and Yet Kenya has done well.

West Africa should be as developed as anywhere in the world - but we know what happened. They went under military dictatorship, did not diversify the economy with minerals but allowed minerals to kill the existing industries..end results....huge mess.
