It mostly how much each gov spend on education. Countries that suceed spend a lot on education. Countries in West and Central Africa - spend very little - in their notorious low budget. Kenya for example use to out spend anyone in education in africa in 70s and 80s - that explain historical high quality of education - but now smaller serious countries invest a lot more. mtisTheQubit: |
Yes there is no argument. Mauritus is better than South Africa in all such metrics. South Africa to get out of middle income trap need to focus on education first and foremost. AfriqueDuZuid: |
People are driven to the informal economy out of poverty. Not by choice. It cannot be an economy policy. It's the default - you will find people hawking or eking out a living in the streets out of poverty. That is why your poverty data need to be relooked. vankelvin: |
Yes there are outliers like those oil rich countries that tend to inflate the gdp - but generally it's pretty good measure of progress. AfriqueDuZuid: |
It's been playing btw 5-7K usd the last 10yrs. It called the middle income trap. AfriqueDuZuid: |
Nominal gdp lower than 1100usd - Least developed country - DRC Congo Nominal gpd per capita of 1100usd or about - threshold to below Lower Middle Income - Kenya Nominal gdp of 4000 to 12000 - Upper middle class - South Africa Nominal gdp above 12,000 is developed country - the entry point - Mauritus/Seychelles have hit there. That is according to IMF/WB South Africa GDP 2020 301.9 /60m = 5000usd. End of this year - it will projected to be 400/60=roughly 6700usd. AfriqueDuZuid: |
The projections are mine. The maths are solid. Kenya generate 21B total revenues - that is 20 percent of GDP - as should be expected for our economy. Kenya average growth has been around 6 percent. Just30: |
Kenya GDP 2010 - 40B - Kenya GDP 2020-100B. Ghana 2010 - 32 - 2020 -72B. The rest are your hallucinations. Kenya has moved from position 12 in Africa to now position 6 - by 2023 - Morocco will be seeing dust - and then Algeria by 2025. Then the list will be "Nigeria", Egypt, South Africa and Kenya. Just30: |
Facts is not popularity contest. I see you desperatly liking your own innane posts. It hilarious. The substance or the soundness of your argument should be apparent. You got what two tabs - one to write the nonsense - and one to like them Then sometimes your Ghanians engage in orgy of liking each other posts - like it's a substitute for facts.Just30: |
Kenya GDP over the last 20yrs has grown 9 times. South Africa 3 times. The last 10yrs is even more dramatic. South Africa has basically been struck. Kenya GDP has almost trippled. Kenya growth is not mineral driven (therefore not subject to cyclic commodity bust-booms), is broad based and therefore sustainable. South Africa is in middle class trap - you should go to Latin America - and find out why Mexico or Brazil despite being near US - has been stuck - and why only CHile and Argentina made it. Just30: |
Facts speak for themselves. They are very stubborn things. My opinion are not facts. But facts like I have clearly put in this thread cannot be disputed by anyone sane. Unfortunately Mcnaughton principles applies to you. You can literally kill someone and get away with it. Just30: |
Coz if you did it will clearly show you kenya is gonna overtake your hunting ground. stop hunting for morsels and go hunt for big things - like knowledge. jl115: |
Studies like this have been done https://www.wider.unu.edu/publication/policy-co-ordination-and-growth-traps-middle-income-country-setting#:~:text=South%20Africa%20has%20exhibited%20tepid,middle%20income%20country%20growth%20trap.&text=The%20paper%20concludes%20discussing%20the,to%20participate%20in%20the%20economy. South Africa has exhibited tepid economic growth over the past twenty years as well as high levels of income inequality characteristic of a middle income country growth trap. ... The paper concludes discussing the welfare outcomes on the vast majority of South Africans who are unable to participate in the economy. jl115: |
If you're interested in hunting the truth like yours truly rather than hunting squierels for dinner...here is how it went down. The genesis is 2009 census - some northern counties in kenya tried to pull a Nigeria - they inflated their population. The statistics body cancelled and corrected them. They went to court and they won. So offically kenya population was inflated...but in 2019 - new measures were introduced to prevent a Nigeria. Most who did the projection using the earlier figures have kenya population figures inflated. Court declares disputed 2009 census results valid from 8 sub-counties in Mandera and Garissa counties https://www.standardmedia.co.ke/counties/article/2000202590/court-declares-disputed-2009-census-results-valid jl115: |
Post apertheid there was growth - until 2010 - and it's been a mess since. I think it's structural middle class rut like you find in Latin America. Mauritus has escaped it and become Africa's only DEVELOPED Country. You think it's Zuma cooling his heels in prison. I think it's deeper than that. jl115: |
Again, stop hunting, Kenya population is projected at 49.8m now. We did a census in 2019 - just 2 yrs ago - it was 47.5m. https://www.imf.org/en/Countries/KEN 2021 Projected Real GDP (% Change) : 5.6 2021 Projected Consumer Prices (% Change): 6.0 Country Population: 49.801 million jl115: |
South Africa is going to play around 300-400B - I dont know why you're excited - the commodities are up - next year - we shall see you back in 300B. The same with Nigeria - Oil prices if they drop - their GDP drops. Nigeria is oil dependant - South Africa is middle class rut - it been there the last almost 20yrs. Kenya is making sustainable move FORWARD. jl115: |
But you've been running around with projected growth of 5 percent. IMF normally release projection in April and October. This was released a few days ago...while you were busy hunting for protein. IMF World Economic Outlook - October 2021 Update African Country nominal GDP top 15 Nigeria - $480 billion South Africa - $415 billion Egypt - $396 billion Algeria - $163 billion Morocco - $126 billion Kenya - $109 billion Ethiopia - $92 billion Ghana - $75 billion Angola - $70 billion Tanzania - $69 billion Cote d'Ivoire - $69 billion DR Congo - $54 billion Cameroon - $45 billion Uganda - $43 billion Tunisia - $43 billion jl115: |
Kenya doesnt have any minerals worth talking about. IMF World Economic Outlook - October 2021 Update African Country nominal GDP top 15 Nigeria - $480 billion South Africa - $415 billion Egypt - $396 billion Algeria - $163 billion Morocco - $126 billion Kenya - $109 billion Ethiopia - $92 billion Ghana - $75 billion Angola - $70 billion Tanzania - $69 billion Cote d'Ivoire - $69 billion DR Congo - $54 billion Cameroon - $45 billion Uganda - $43 billion Tunisia - $43 billion Just30: |
Boer, look like you had bad hunting day. Did your trusty arrow fail you? Of course those figures are from IMF. I clearly said by end of this year - 2021. jl115: |
I was in pro-Ghana - until it failed KaziKazi picture test. I used to think it was one progressive nations. I have now had time to dig a lot more on Ghana - and realize it one hopeless country like Nigeria. Africa leading gold producers yet it look shietty. Look at the electricity sector - they claim to have hit 85 percent - only to realize that their leading electricity distributor only has 3.5-4m customers - in a country of 31m people with possibly 8m household. That is 50 percent. This ONE OF THE MANY LIES THAT MANIFEST IN PICTURES. I checked their water...only 0.5M meters in the entire country. This is a country with 8M households according to their last census...average household size is 4 people. Sewage is totally absent. I knew Senegal and Ivory coast were doing well - but Ivory Coast went down with wars. But I have seen it recover. I have seen many ivory coast products in Europe. I believe unlike Nigeria and Ghana - the lack of minerals - has given them sustainable organic growth. theenchanter: |
Nearly every country that has minerals like Ghana has got out poverty except in parts of Africa. Even countries with 1 million people do it even faster. Minerals give you the capital - for free - required to lift people out of poverty - by investing in people, infrastructure and their business. Ghana GDP by end of this year will be 75b divided by 31M people (recent census). Kenya will be 109B against 50B - so it about 2400 versus 2200. Just30: |
What is there to enjoy with obtuse Ghanians just blurting nonsense on every post that touch Ghana. Shma2020: |
It simple. Learn not to tell people what to do or not do. When you do that - you life will become much better. Shma2020: |
That you still have povery of 19 % with gold for all those centuries in a sacrielege. When it come to gdp per capita - kenya and ghan are now pretty close - the same with HDI. Just30: |
Again you dont tell me to continue - I can choose not to. You simply f.off. if you have nothing to contribute. I am here as myself - not appendage or a team - I am here to share my knolwedge and to sometimes (rarely) learn. Shma2020: |
I havent stopped anybody from commenting; I choose when to come here; which posts to reply to; which one to ignore; I am not going to wait for you to tell me what to do or not do. I know enough of ivory coast - because if you're inquisitive - you wont wait for this thread to learn stuff - you got the internet. I believe I have not told you or anybody else what to do with your time or post here or elsewhere. Come in when you want, comment on stuff you want, and leave when you want. Shma2020: |
Despite Ghana being almost arable - and with so many minerals - you have almost as serious poverty as kenya - which is barren semi-arid and arid - and with no minerals. Just30: |
If the kitchen is too hot for you; step out; this thread is comparasion reason; Just run your life the best way you know; why on earth would you imagine you can even advice me? Like really? Shma2020: |
ICJ - not ICC. The cases are not won by lawyers - but the merits and demerits of the case. vankelvin: |
Another beautiful part of Kenya is definitely Timau - in Laikipia Mt kenya east. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsxMi9SRWsk |
