Kenya led the world in completing China-funded mega projects ahead of schedule under Beijing’s global infrastructure development strategy, findings of a new study by a top US research university suggests.

The report established five projects in the country were done ahead of deadline between 2013 and 2017, putting the country top amongst countries which have benefited from China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).

Researchers at the College of William & Mary attributed the fast-pace of implementing Chinese projects in Kenya partly to President Ukuru Kenyatta taking ownership and Chinese contractors acting quickly to stifle resistance.

“Kenya is at the top of the list (of countries in the dataset with the highest number of BRI infrastructure projects completed ahead of schedule).”

Kenya is followed by Indonesia, Mongolia and Cameroon which separately had three projects done ahead of timetable, while Cambodia, Lao People's Democratic Republic and Zambia had two projects each.

I am not a racist - but will continue to call out Boer racism - where a country so rich - has confine millions of black south africans to inter-generational poverty - is trying to compare itself to kibera or kenya slums - where every slum kid has a chance to become anything - like a kid in Karen or Runda or South Africa best neigherhood.

How many Kiberan kids have gone to IVY league - THOUSANDS.

We do not have insitutionalized racism or inter-generational poverty. Kibera kid knows he can make it life - they are very disciplined, and they ace their exams, they proceed to get scholarship to best high schools, to best universities and they suceed in their numbers.

South Africa remain the WORLD MOST UNEQUAL WEALTHY COUNTRY. The wealth is not from industries. You dont sell phones or cars. You sell BLOODY MINERALS.

You done yet with your racism?

You know my feelings. You should not own farms or hunting in South Africa until blacks get their land and you can buy it. The best you should own is apartment and factories. That is where Mbeki failed.

How can we even compare kenya and south africa - one is saudi arabia of minerals - one is 89 percent semi arid barren wilderness - that is flying the black flag proudly above all.

jl115:
you see that's all you can do.....throw racist insults....pathetic really!!

Hey Boer, when everyone gained independence in 1950s - 1960s, all your people could think about is apertheid while stealing black south african minerals? Now you want to compare yourself with Kenya - barren semi arid country with no minerlas.

The Africans who got independence - not a single country enacted racism - until Amin did it in 1970s against asians.

Now the Boers - all the primitive in National Party (dont hide under the white colour) could think about is apertheid.

Who does that?

If British had been intelligent - they would have handed South Africa to blacks - not Boers.

PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 4:35pm On Oct 10, 2021
This is not general case. In most places it's middle and rich kids who end up in good schools and good careers - and poor remain in inter-generational poverty. Escaping that vicious cyclic poverty is not a joke. It's very rare to find schools like Olympic where a millionaire in Nairobi Karen would take their kids to deep to poverty in Kibra because they will ace their exams..and almost for free...than taking them to private school.

Most slums you will find beset by serious structural problems - like drugs, crime, prostitution - it almost very hard for kids born there to escape it. Most slums kids end up rude, violent and almost unteachable. Soon they start beating teachers, skipping classes, perform poorly and drop out of schools.

You're just the obtuse Nigerian as always.

Abohboy:
This is a general case around the world poorer students tend to work a lot harder to escape poverty

That applies to everywhere in Africa a few months ago an old woman was robbed in a slum in cape town and they burnt the man alive with a tyre even in Nigeria same thing happens nothing special

I think you're interested in heckling - not in real debate. Again stay away from anything using PPP/GDP for poverty analysis in unequal country like South Africa. Kenya last HOUSEHOLD BUDGET Survey was done in 2016. Poverty had reduced from 47 percent to 36 percent.

What you put ther is - Poverty headcount ratio at $1.90 a day (2011 PPP) (% of population)

In a country of extreme inequality like South Africa - and Kenya = that is NONSENSE.

Only if you put a link. Kenya poverty has never been 32 percent. When I worked for WB - poverty was 47 percent - and then it redueced to 36 percent in the 2016 national household survey. The northern Arid kenya has serious endemic poverty problem. They are battling Sahara desert - desertification - but they are doing extremely well - given their circumstance of perrenial drought - that kills everything - including your beloved wildlife in millions. Unlike the Fulanis of West Africa - they cannot just pick arms and shoot down their way to pasture and water. Some do try but kenya security forces are tougher and not complicit like in West Africa -esp Nigeria where Fulani is president or dominate the army.

No other poverty analysis of that scale has been done...I guess it will be until 2025.

Poverty measured under the national poverty line declined from 46.8% to 36.1% of the population. ... Poverty declined considerably in rural areas, from about 50% in 2005-06 to 38.8% in 2015-16

PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 4:14pm On Oct 10, 2021
You can never compare kenya slums with even south africa - leave alone zoos like Ghana and Nigeria.Nearly every slum dweller in kenya has 24hours of electricity - and water - sometimes or mostly illegally - but they have everything - except space and tittledeed to put in property. Sanitation is a big problem but now they are community toilets. Kibra the houses are saddle without any space for sunlight - I remember walked one day inside it - you walk for a kilometer on dark paths - with shops and thriving business - but it pure darkeness on the tiny footpaths - somehow everyone knows their houses. If you enter a house - you are suprised - they have TV, clean cheap carpet, water and some little furniture..in 8 feet house.
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 4:05pm On Oct 10, 2021
Nah - I worked for World Bank in 2005s or around on poverty analysis. Kenya poverty then was 45-50 percent. In places like Turkana and Northern Kenya - poverty was 95-98 percent. Now I think northern kenya it's down to 75 percent - and in places near Nairobi - it down to less than 20 percent.

Kenya has reduced it's poverty tremendiously the last two decades...lifting I think 10-20m people out of it.

COVID has probably send a million back to poverty but nothing that drastic.

Kenya poor have a real path out of poverty compared to South Africa apertheid system that codemn blacks to inter-generational poverty.
Kenya urban slums schools produced some of the best kids in our exams.
They proceed to go to schools like Starehe boys that sponsor them 100 percent - and go on to become the best in their lifes - joining the IVY leageues.

Kenya slums are not permanent station of life in Kenya

If two school could speak - Olympic and Starehe boys - it would be story of triump - of slums kids - extremely intelligent - extremely discipline - coming out of slums to be doctors, engineers, etc

The late Ken Okoth became Kibra first Mp - born and bred - went to Olympic - and like many kibera kids rose to become top proffesional. He left a stellar record as Mp and died young from cancer

Kibera use to be part of Langat/Karen - but is now it's own constitutuency.

Ken Okoth as Mp built so many schools in Kibra..and his brother the current Mp was elected to complete his term.

Look like it was doing well but went down when free primary school was intruduced - Kibera's Olympic primary went down. It was giant during our time. Those slums kids use to beat almost everyone.

Another difference you will notice with kenya slums - crime is almost zero - any little crime attract instant lynching - drugs and such very minimal - there is poverty but no serious structural probelms.

Yeah found Olympic primary - Kibera school at middle the slum - that school has produced lots of top people. They use to lead Nairobi and sometimes nationally

The Olympic Primary School is a government-run primary school in Kenya. It is located in Kibera, a slum district in the capital Nairobi. The school was established in 1980. Over the ensuing years the school was successful in national examinations and thus attracted pupils from all social classes, from millionaires families, middle-classes, working classes and the penniless slum dwellers.

Very true. Kibera and kenya slums people actually climb out of poverty. it's very hard to find inter-generational poverty. In 90s and even now Kibera Olympic primary was one leading schools in kenya. In our university class - we had two kids from Kibera - ex-olympic - and there were many doing medicine, engineering and such courses.

Kenya slums are just a entry point for rural poor emigrating to urban centers.

I think you should overtake kenya first before you dream big.
Kenya has since 2014 risen from no 11 in Africa to no 6.
We are the cusp of Morroco - only 10B dollars difference - that is just one year of growth or two.
Algeria is the next at 150-180B dollars.
After that is South Africa.
Otherwise in Sub-Sahara Africa the list is Nigeria (cooked), South Africa and Kenya - and this is reflected in many indicators.
Nairobi will definitely overtake Joburg in less than a decade unless something catastrophic like a civil war happen.
It almost apparent - the Azanias have to run away from videos and pictures - and start talking statistics like Ghana.

GDP 2020 in Africa - as of last year
South Africa - 301.9 billion USD (2020)
Algeria 145.2 billion USD (2020)
Morroco 112.9 billion USD (2020)
Kenya 98.84 billion USD (2020) - rebased to 107B kshs (roughly 100B).

If you check medium projection - kenya will grow at 6- almost the 7 percent that mean GDP will double in a decade - while South Africa will be at 1 percent - less than population growth.

How does it affect you? If people want to be allowed to be gays publicly - instead of hidding - I dont see a problem. Even in Kenya now there thousands of gays.

And as people become empowered - they will not agree to live in the shadows - while you're out there kissing your girlfriend - they will also kiss their boyfriend.

Shma2020:
I disagree. It's not right to legalize such behavior. You want to copy paste a rule from a country where a woman has been given mandate to marry more than one man? Human rights can be achieved through alot and legalizing homosexuality is not one of them.

Kenya should do copy them. It's not a foreign concept.

Human rights are universal. We need to recognise the right for everyone to sexual orientation of their free choice.
