Okay, let me take a step back for a sec and maybe ask you this. Since you say that Kenya has more influence than Tanzania, what has the Kenyan government done or influenced that has given her an advantage over Tanzania? Meaning that, what has Tanzania and Kenya competed at that Kenya got because of her influence and English? Ukitaja vitano nakaa palee, niite mbwa......

Dont be funny. Kiswahili is as kenyan as TZ.
Heck Kiswahili is bantu language that is spoken by almost half of sub-sahara Africa.

And yes Sub-Sahara africa should adopt Kiswahili as it's language

Kazikazi:
Then there is the issue of a language...

Yes,a language is a powerful tool which many superpowers have used to insert their influence around the globe for ages and ages
That's what UK and U.S. did,and its the same thing China is busy doing for her own benefits( security and economic benefits). Through these languages, the superpowers have managed to get sympathizers, planting spies in different parts of the globe, they have placed their ideologies in the minds of those folks who addapted the language, and as their influence gets bigger, their economic advantages rises too.

That's is what United republic is busy doing...
Spreading Swahili language all over the world. This is one of the characteristics of a superpower. All superpowers have their own language, and they use the language to influence other nations.
When we talk about influence around Africa, you have to use TZ as a yardstick.
Go to kenya, our Swahili is being adapted at a faster rate
Go to Malawi
Mozambique, DRC
Zambia,Rwanda
Burundi, comoro etc

That is influence

Now take you medicine. This beyond stupid. Insane.
Just40:
NATO does not need to send soldiers even though they are doing so, to run out of weapons.
They've simply run out of bullets and artillery in their effort to bleed Russia dry of ammunition, they ended up bleeding themselves dry.

Meanwhile Russia can keep this going for another 15 to 20 years before running our of it Soviet stockpile.

The US dollar lost 10% of global trade just by Russia's single intervention in one year and now doing 44% or 34% of global trade.
Before they'll be able to knock Russia out, Russia would knock them out when all that dollars start returning to the US.

You're just and idiot... NATO have rachet up production of weapons and yet their combine production can't meet those of Russia. They destroyed their industrial base and are now trying to destroy those of Germany.

Ukraine are being given the best of NATO including the best of intelligence.

The Russians have won already economically and militarily... Now NATO wants to freeze the conflict but the Russians will never trust them again
PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 9:53pm On Jun 16, 2023
You're wrong.
GDP measures both marketed or sold goods and own production.
The own produced and consumed - GDP measures albeit in approximated means.

Let me give you a good example.
Milk production in kenya.

Kenya produces 6B litres of milk annually.
What is marketed and processed formally is roughly a billion or less.
The other are either drank by owners or sold informally to neighborhoods.
To calculate the Maasai cow that was milked in a year - GDP uses guestimates - or use any patch data they can get.
Livestock surveys - say we know from Census Kenya has 10M dairy cows - about 2 million are high grade - 8 million are traditional.
Most of 2 million high grade or commercial breeds will end up formally....producing 1B litres..measured and tracked through dairies companies.

The useless 8 million will produce 5B litres.
So how do we estimate the production - we can randomly sample the cows or ask the owners - they will likely say they milk 2 or 5 litres a day - compared to 20 litres for high grade cows.
Give and take dry cows - you estimate the milk produced.

Then you go to nearest markets and ask - the prices of milk - you average out.

Now you can come and say kenya produces 6 billion litres times half a dollar - bringing total GDP from Milk to 3B.

Mzal3ndo:
I think there needs to be extensive classes about economics in this forums so as to avoid this kind of gibberish. GDP is a very improper way of measuring an economy because it goes on the basis of everything produced in a country has to be sold and if its not being sold thus production is low. If you have a land and produce 10 bags of corn and sell five it is considered you produce 5 bags in terms of GDP and if it happens you increase production from 10 to 15 but still sell 5, it is considered no production increase has occurred. But if you still produce 10 and sell 7 instead of 5 it will be considered that production has increased.
Now since we have gotten that out of the way lets make a careful break down of the two economies. Kenya is more of a cooperate economy while Tanzania is more of a mommy and daddy shop kind of economy meaning most Kenyas on a large scale work for cooperation or someone else while most Tanzanians work for themselves and most of them in Agriculture. With vast areas of land most Tanzania make enough for themselves and sell the extra to meet monetary requirements (thats 70% of the working population are in agriculture). With a more cooperate form of doing business raw material pass though various industries to reach the final product and in all those stages in a monetary transfer happens that contributes to the gdp whereas in Tanzania its more as from the farm to the sell to consumer without major processing requirements.
So if you look at the GDP PPP pf the two nations (which is a bit more accurate in describing the economies) Tanzania is 2/3 of Kenyas economy which is not half by any metric and for a country that was still socialist till the early 2000s its fair in African standards. But although you have a larger economy in terms of monetary transactions Kenyas still pay way more in taxes and cost of living is higher thus its much better to be poor in Tanzania than in Kenya.
While you guys take pride in working hard Tanzania believe life in meant to be enjoyed so forgive us if we dont want to kill ourselves for money that when we die are not going to take anywhere.
P.S. Kenyan politician like this grandiose gestures, showing that they are working that is why they are pushing for rapid regional intergration but let me ask you this, If you add Somalia to the EAC and half of Somalia move to Kenya which is safer do you have the resources to accommodated and build all the infrastructure needed to support them or are your leaders going to go to Washington with their tails between their legs to beg for aid?

Kenya as colonized by the British, what does that have to do with development? The Germans lost the first world war and its colonial territories where transfered to the British and other allied powers (Most colonies didn't make profit except for France and Belgium Congo) so I do not see any relevance to the matter apart from the British had more investments in Kenya than Tanzania since TZ was a protectorate meaning they where just overseeing things in Tz and had no intentions for mayor investment especially after fighting a major war.

Language, Second largest economy in the world speak Chinese, largest economy in Europe speak German, the entire North Africa speaks Arabic, you point being what exactly about language?

You asked how is Tanzania going to influence anything? Simple by having translators in international meetings just as the Chinese, Germans, Russians and the French do. You dont need to have the whole country speaking English only those whole represent us in International trade.

Poland and Ukraine are siamese twins now. Clearly Ramaphosa peace project is unwelcomed.

Until big boys of US, Germany, France and UK - financing Ukraine - say enough with beating of Putin - there is no peace deal in Ukraine

And why would US & EU-UK want a peace deal when Russia is getting bogged down & depleted by brave Ukrainians with a few hand-me down weapons?

Tell Ramaphosa to turn from Kiev and head to Sudan or DRC or Mozambique - or Somalia - or Mali - or so many Africa countries need peace deals.

There is nasty war in Sudan - and South Africa can be helpful there.

Exactly. Joburg, Lagos, Nairobi and Cairo - are the main cities in Africa - when it comes to geo-politics. Ghana is only relevant when Nigeria has problems.
GeneralDae:
That's cool but that doesn't signify much in terms of influence/relevance in Africa.
Ethiopia is home to the AU and was never colonised but how relevant is Ethiopia in Africa? Even in East Africa, many would consider Kenya more influential than Ethiopia.

Influence is mostly about Economy, Military, and spread of your culture.

Ghana is doing well but she is not even the most influential English speaking West Africa. Ivorycoast is the most influential French speaking West African country and Nigeria is still the most influential English speaking West African country.

Kenya is the most influential East African Country just like South Africa in Southern Africa. Egypt is the top dog in North Africa.

Economic ranking, Military ranking, and Cultural spread in that order are the three topmost metrics to guage influence/relevance here.

Yes died with Kwame Nkurumah. People did notice Ghana under Jerry Rawling but generally they've been in shadows of Nigeria - only emerging when Nigeria is weak and dysfunctional. They are more like Ivory coast and senegal in west - relevant when Nigeria is in trouble.

Nigeria must only country where customs is separate from revenues.
In kenya we merged customs with revenues in 1995 - and created KRA.
Almost every country I know has one single revenue authority that collect customs, income tax, sales, vat and name it.

This need to be done TODAY. It almost 30yrs late.

And corruption is dealt by installing system at customs - computers will kill 90 percent of corruption.

Obaaderemi2:
I know Tinubu is a beast when it comes to generating revenue, from the Lagos experience. But first he has to come up with a strategy to tackle the serious corruption in Nigeria Customs before he tries merging them with firs if he actually plans to do so.

The customs service here is too corrupt. Like you wrote above the customs shouldn't even be in the business of handling our money at all when we've got FIRS.

Now that Tinubu has decided to wake up the sleeping giant - nobody will hear of Ghana again. Ghana despite being as irresponsible as Zambia is only relevant because Nigeria under Buhari went down. With Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan - Nigeria was in frontline. Little Ghana appeared sane man in west africa - as Ivory Coast also went into civil war.

Now Nigeria and Ivory coast are back. Ghana will revert to being a slave dungeon.

Buhari like Yardua should never have led Nigeria. Dangote has been leading.

Dangote soon will buy Senate to impose import ban of refined fuel - to "save dollars". Abuja will play along after getting huge bribes. Then he will monopolize the market.

Subsaharan:
The NMDPRA would begin to Issue import licenses to anyone who wants to bring in the product. The market is now fully deregulated. This is 46 years in the making. Dangote would have to compete with other marketers if his products don't cut it, he should export it to gain Fx. The Saudis and Indians are making a killing by exporting their diesel and importing cheap Russian petroleum products

That's a language barriers. And your guy have said so,but I can't understand why u think if someone can't speak English then the person is dumb? Why not speak Swahili if you want people to understand u?

Black Americans are not informed. A guy is surprised why we don't have a direct flight to Madagascar or Angola? This is too dumb from him.

Let me give up on the Zoo - considering Tinubu is hopelessly sick.

You wrong on black market in Kenya.
In Kenya it started when unethical banks and sleepy central bank messed up.
Kenya banks have inter-bank forex window - this is where price discovery happened- this they had killed.
Secondly Central Bank slept and didnt regulate forex trade - when banks were warned of heavy fines - they behaved.

Black forex market is clearest sign that market is broken. I dont know what helll you're argue about.

theenchanter:
1. what do u mean by most Nigerians? Most Nigerians deal with naira, not dollar. Only business men and those that has to do with traveling deals with dollar and PTA and BTA already covered them, so who are the most Nigerians u're talking about?

2. Black market was also in Kenya when dollar was scarce this very year, should I attribute such arbitrage to ur central bank and banks? Most people that are into forex in Nigeria are northerners, so the Kenyan guy was factual.

3. I like how u're contradicting urself here. Oil dollar doesn't belong to govt but oil royalty and tax does.😂 I guess the royalties and tax are paid in shilling. Yes, NNPC doesn't belong to Nigeria, it belongs to Kenya.

4. CBN doesn't issue forex initially, it started issuing it after d 2016 oil Crisis through PTA and BTA. Don't let ur half baked knowledge send u down d drain. And we have 36 branches, each branch covering each state.

5. As I said earlier, ur ignorance is alarming. CBN gives loan to farmers through bank of agriculture under the anchor borrower scheme. U're just a blazing idiot.

6. It'll be floated, ur junks wouldn't count.

7. I don't even think u know the reasons countries peg their currency against the dollar.... I don't think I can start with that. Saudi Arabia still have it's currency Pegged till today.

8.... Off-point.

PoliticsRe: Kenyans Are Far Behind Nigerians In Every Aspect – Fani-Kayode by rvp2018: 9:03am On May 30, 2023
1) Most Nigerians get their dollars in black market rate. The Kenyan who was travelling in Nigeria had to literally claim he was gonna starve. The rate is almost twice the official rate. That is now 750 against official rate of 440?.

2) Black market exist because Nigeria CBN and Banks cannot meet demand - heck they might be one hoarding dollars - so they can resale in black market. That is 50% arbitrage for those connected to CBN and banks. No wonder Kenya guy was told only Northern business men have dollars and are one selling them.

3) The oil dollars dont belong to gov. They belong to oil exporters. That is Shell, BP, Oando, whoever. Even NNPC dont belong to Nigeria CBN. NNP use the same dollars to import refined oil. What belong to Nigeria gov is oil royalties and taxes.

4) Nigeria CBN is the most messed up central bank I know. Central bank should strictly be Gov Banker and Bank Bankers. It should never be in retail or deal with clients. Their main job is policy, regulation and should be INDEPENDENT. In kenya CBK have 5 or less branches - and all they do is manage bulk cash for Banks- never clients or customers. You go to own commercial bank. Nigeria one was even lending farmers money.

5) Nigeria gov should create seperate development or commercial banks for stuff like Anchor Borrowers - it crazy to imagine Central or Fed Reserve bank lending money to farmers. Very crazy.

6) Nigeria cannot float the Naira because they are afraid it will fall. They are trying to manipulate it. In 2016 - it allowed it to float then panicked when it dropped. There is no way out. Let it drop - until it find it base. It will be somewhere btw black market and official rate. Somewhere near the blackmarket.

7) Excuses about Oil economy is hilarous. Many oil producers have floated their currency. Angola did it - it went down - and it now stabilized.

cool Until you have one uniform rate that is market driven - you will continue to become poverty capital. You will continue to block Airlines and MTN from sending their dollars home. You will struggle to keep very high forex reserves. You will not see capital flow in to Nigeria.

theenchanter:
did I mention that CBN is the sole supplier of dollar? U can also get dollar at DMBs at an increased rate, but u can only get dollar at an official rate in CBN.

Nigeria, being a country that generates major income from crude export has to peg the exchange rate, just like many oil nations around the world after the oil market collapsed in 2016......

We didn't generate much income and dollar was scarce, black marketers began to sell dollar at an exhorbitant rate, just like they do when dollar was scarce in Kenya this year. So CBN had to peg the dollar in order to regulate it's flow.

I'll stop there, so as to let u continue to wander the path of ignorance.

And yes, central banks around the world supplies forex to the economy, not market. Market only determine its rate depending on the demand and supply.

Idiot.
