Of course colonialism was wrong and it was ended. They should have done what they are doing now...engage africa in trade and exchange of ideas...they should have spread their superior culture, goods, bought natural resources...without subjugation and excessive force. Our grand p are now mostly dead - the last person who saw British in Kenya is now - what 65yrs. We have now reset our relationship - we now import goods from britain - we sell them goods - we are good - mostly. We still are doing the copying/aping/ - but it's not forced. Shma2022: |
Of course. I enjoy almost as good electricity as in Europe. Better internet. Water is good. Name it....my life in kenya is better than in Europe mostly. Only problem are dusty roads and some garbage I see here and there. Otherwise living in most part of Kenya - we have done very well - that is why experts voted Kenya the best in Africa. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9XDtJQlSUk&t=21s samorobo: |
Nobody force people to change their culture or religion. The Maasai stuck to it - and it's been to their detriment. Muslims remained muslims. Those who saw sense adopted "British" culture because it was superior. My own grandmother told me most people became christians after seeing wonder of British modern medicine that enable their kids to survive - from horrible infant mortalities of those days. Those that saw the fruit of education - followed. The British were not all evil. Yes they grabbed land and resources - but they also civilized Africans. Blaming British now is very lame. This is now our mess. We own it. Shma2022: |
Kenya has done better than Nigeria despite not getting oil like Nigeria. samorobo: |
1900-1960 - Nigeria/kenya - British Colony. 1960-2020 - Africa independence. 60yrs v 60yrs. We have failed ourselves. We cannot blame Britain anymore. samorobo: |
British if it had stayed longer might have helped the now hopeless Nigeria. You're still walking the Sahara, swimming the mediterranian, hiking on trucks to get to Britain....60yrs after you became independent. Maybe we need to let British come and fix our countries. Anyone blaming coloniliasm for their under-development now is a slowpoke. AskiaHarem: |

Nobody worship Britain. Most people worship the Jewish and Arabic gods. Britain should undertake restitution for their coloniliasm. We also should appreciate the British for many good deeds...like stopping slave trade in Nigeria and Ghana. Should we partner with Britain yes. As we seek restitution and compensation...Mau Mau were paid some million pounds...we should not forget that Britain is source of forex in remittance & AID to Africa - source of investment, trade and development. They are our partners now. We are friendly to them. obaaderemi: |
US fought a bitter independence war. Nigeria didnt. Why would you be bitter with Brits when they left you better off than they found you. obaaderemi: |
My hometown Kericho -arguably one most beautiful places on earth- is also source of many flower farms https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LALPIJZdMSk |
And sit on golden stool from Ghana. GeneralDae: |
I dont get the animus with queen. She has been a decent lady. She has ceremonial powers. She is not Tony Blair who invaded Iraq. She lived long and was mostly force of good doing charity work. If you have a problem with Britain...this queen is not responsible |
Why is Ramaphosa unable to fix Eskom. Time to bite the bullet. The big problem is on big consumers - that 1600MW is nothing for them. I believe about 20 of big consumers - consume about half of electricity. And they are big manufacturers, mining companies, water, etc. They will mess the economy - as manufacturing and minning will have to stutter. AfriqueDuZuid: |
We have to deal with remaining issues like land and such - but we are also friendly to British - are part of commonwealth - and queen has been there forever - and definitely for Ruto - he is in cloud 9 - he is not a week into presidency - and is rubbing shoulders with all the big boys. So let our man enjoy it. This is honeymoon for him. obaaderemi: |
The more reason to smile or you wanted him to shade crocodile tears. Let also admit that Britain post colonial period does a lot of good. They provide AID to many countries. We are also in friendly relationship with them. We cannot forever wear the bitterness of colonialsm. It over. Get over with it.obaaderemi: |
Ruto delivered a TKO. The desperate movement you're seeing here are nothing but rigor mortis. The last thing is for the tail btw their legs to get final hardon then we can pronounced them completely politically dead, bury them and we move on.vankelvin:
|
They are looking for company in misery corner and are praying Ruto fails....so their political decision is vindicated. If they had a nuclear...they would nuke kenya ![]() vankelvin: |
Less than week. He was sworn last tuesday. We are dealing with very bitter folks who are yet to accept their old slowpoke Raila is completely finished. vankelvin: |
Meles was worse - he was mass murderer and dictator - but he transformed the country. Being a thief Pinochet didnt stop Chilean president from making it 1st world. Of course Ruto is not a thief - the real thieves you'll be shocked in next few months - when state capture commission start work. Ruto has been accused of all many things including crimes against humanity - but look who is Kenya president ![]() Obiano13: |
ESKOM taking South Africa to route Nigeria. Level 6 load shedding for rest of 2022. https://nation.africa/africa/news/south-africa-plunged-into-open-ended-power-crisis-3953822 |
China is not worried. We shall see - if price is a problem - they will reduce. Nobody expect a toll road to turn profitable day one. Chinese have 30yrs AfriqueDuZuid: |
Another bitter fool. Ruto has been president for less than a week. He has not even formed cabinet. I know he set very high expectation but relax. Nobody works as hard as Ruto. Dr Ndii says they are working 16 hours per day. In the next few days - you'll understand why some of us have supported Ruto for years. Ruto works hard, smart, and never give ups until it's done. He is the next Meles Zenawi and your old man Raila was hopeless against such a terrific talent. Ruto isnt planning to be just another president - he want to transform kenya. 5 days - he has hired 6 judges, cut off oil and maize subsidy, given police their financial autonomy. In btw he has fixed parliament - go both house speakers, majority leaders, and now taken Mps through the agenda that will roll out. Parliament is about fixed - remaining just comittees. Now he is spending 16hours per day - studying the lay and laying the plans - meeting those in gov - to understand just the kind of hole - Uhuru and your little slowpoke Raila have dug. In short if I was you - I would go to bed - and cease worrying - Kenya finally is on the right hands. If Ruto cannot fix it - nobody else will be able to fix it. Obiano13: |
You're very anxious to see it fail. Give it time. How are South Africa toll roads doing? Meanwhile Kenya is negotiating with US, French and Koreans for more than 5B dollars of toll roads. AfriqueDuZuid: |
when Ruto was min of agricluture (voted the best minister for three years) - we had bumper harvest. From importing maize from south africa - to surplus maize. Ruto 12yrs ago - fixed agricluture - the problem became too much maize. Agriculture is easy to fix - quality inputs (fertilizer, seeds, pesticides) and better husbandry/agronomy - and you have too much food it goes to waste. Ruto in next two years will have taken kenya back to throwing excess food away. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1Hg46k33qo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u8xZrTk-_Jk |
This was average for month of may. There is no latest data I am aware of. Maybe you can share ones you have. AfriqueDuZuid: |
You subsidize inputs - never outputs. Fertlizer subsidy versus Maize grain subsidy. It common sense. One is investment. One is consumption. Fertlizer application can increase production of maize by upto 50-100% - and it cost very little. Maize subsidy in month was 7.5B kshs...in 12 months...it can go as high as 100B kshs. Fertilizer during planting season...you can spend 7B....the whole year...and double production. Remember Ruto has minister of Agricluture did this - kenya had Maize Surplus for 1st time - I think we produce 40 million bags..against 36 million bags consumption. Uhuru stopped it - and now we produce less than 30m bags of maize...and are in problems. So relax, sit back and watch Ruto transform Kenya. It's been 5 days since he was sworn and you want miracles. Over 31,000 vehicles have used the Nairobi Expressway every day since it was opened up to the public on May 14, 2022, albeit on a trial basis. https://www.citizen.digital/news/over-31k-vehicles-use-expressway-since-launch-n299205 Just40: |
Kazi Kazi - look like UG-TZ oil pipeline is now doomed - EU pass a motion against it. M7 messed up by going through TZ. https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/RC-9-2022-0409_EN.html |
Crazy. Why would you need a ceremony. I bet everyday there many foreigners who become kenya citizens. You just need to mary a kenyan girl. Thousands more through naturalization - 7yrs. 68816419: |
This use to happen recently - folks took Kenya subsidized fertlizers, repackaged them, took them to uganda and made profit - will happen again no doubt. hopefully this susbidy is short term coz of global inflation PROVERBZ: |
Now makes sense why he was present and why fertilizer deal was announced. As long as he makes quality fertilizers why not. PROVERBZ: |
Day 1 - Ruto already done some work. Dangote hovering.

at least give Ruto 2-3 years before you start complaining.
