vaxx: Nigeria MTN has recently been given the go-ahead to start , it was launch last two years( i actually don't know why it is yet to rolled out) the money supplied will increased tremendously because most of the market woman and other small scale traders like the water seller , wheel barrow pusher , bus conductor, fishermen etc. will automatically used the system and that will.add to the money circulating within the economy. formally
It's not cheap - it's marketting gimmicks. Kenya telcoms used to sell unlimited internet - like 1 terrabyte if you want - but you better be waking up in the middle of the night .
popizaino: This is about affordability (price) and not about internet speed,so kenya internet is still not a joke if its faster......The fact that glo offer cheaper data packages compared to mtn doesn't mean the former has a better network......beside, this is the same poster that confirms mpesa to be light years ahead of mtn momo which you've been arguing against.
Interop was long rolled out - and it pretty useless because again MPESA is like 99% of mobile money. People have Mpesa line even if they use Airtel.
vaxx: what are actually saying . in Ghana we have what we called GHIPPS. go learn about it. registering on mobile money here means having a bank account . you can automatically do the same of what you will do with your bank account with your your mobile wallet. nothing again .
Though i agreed that Kenya has been able to roll out a similar thing, but Kenya has only been able to roll the interoperability between telco and telco but has not been able to roll out the bank to mobile wallet transactions, therefore making Ghana’s to be superior to Kenya. simple
You can get unlimited for much less - the big difference is it shared or not - if everyone watches their netflix - will it degrade. That is kenya about 10yrs ago. New kenyan people want to get HIGH SPEED INTERNET ANYTIME ANYHOW. You get your own PIPE. Not a shared.
So MTN are engaged in MARKETTING GIMICKS,
Akin to Ghana banks telling them you can get bank loans at 1.5% interest rate per month - which is 30% plus annually.
Just40: The guy is telling you his experience and what he bought and you are still here lying
In terms of cities - totally agree - Tanzania is way better - and so is Uganda and even Rwanda. Heck Juba would look better. Ghana really need to figured out why their cities look like chicken coop or cattle kraals.
Saddamochieng00: Why are we still debating these guys. It's really difficult to debate uncivilised people that's why you don't see me wasting my energy on them.
It's even an insult for us to be comparing our cities with theirs. My guy have you seen Accra. When I'm talking about chicken coop I ain't even exaggerating. Damn I'd rather live in war torn Somalia than step foot in that godforsaken craphole.
Please my fellow Kenyans let's look for our mates in Singapore and Malaysia so we can debate them. We're ruining our reputation by associating with these primitives.
When it come to internet - important thing apart from the cost is the speed. Kenya companies use to give you unlimited internet for cheap but internet would degrade. It was shared. The same for Ghana - company can give you 90GB of shared data. In kenya that would cause problems.
Safaricom unlimited fiber is like 4k (40 dollars) a month - not capped - not shared.
Kenya internet speed are world class for that reason.
leQubit: You Ghanaians lie like crazy...an i thought its on here
Nigeria allowed Banks instead of Telcoms to run mobile money. Yes they badly need it but don't expect miracles. The money supply will not increase. The velocity and ease of transaction will improve - and yes banking/financial services will be better.
vaxx: most of many millionaire in Nigeria don't have their own bank account. the informal setting of saving money is still widely used
.having their account as phone number will fast track many Nigerians to automatically become a bank owner. then you will see the difference between 6 and half a dozen
What interoperability are you talking about when M-pesa command 99% of the market share. When banks have their own M-PESA called PESALINK - doing billions of transactions. Equity Bank have their own Telcom company - Equitel - with SIM SWAP - and run their own mobile money on top of it. When you bank transfer in kenya through RTGS happen almost instantly When you can clear most cheques the same day When you banking agent in kenya is Africa leading by far - nearly every M-pesa agent is also a bank agent
When it come to mobile money/finance/banking - kenya long crossed 100% mark. Ghana you're just at 50% banking access.
There is nothing more to be done honestly.
And you're babies. Tell MOMO to even release an API - and open huge possibilities.
Heck you cannot even do online mpesa transaction.
vaxx: You keep reminding me of how stupid you sound . despite your continuous interest in shifting the goal post , Ghana is still miles ahead of you.
No any African country has fully anexed inteperobiility of money transaction just like Ghana as did. you may be first country to start it along Uganda but you aren't successful in it like Ghana. hence the reasons Ghana is term to be the largest growing market for mobile money penetration in Africa.
even with many company setting their office in Kenya, it hasn't changed anything. Ghana still received the highest foreign direct investment than your back water country. hence the reason for our lower unemployment ratio to yours
I used to run Mpesa payment system for our companies in 7 africa countries. MTN didn't even have an API. I managed MTN, MPESA, TIGO CASH, AIRTEL, name them...and our payment system received a payment every second. MTN MOMO is like MPESA in 2011 or earlier. Please when it come to Mobile Money - Kenya is the MECCA - By FAR. That is why many companies interested in Africa are setting base in Nairobi.
vaxx: you can compare your back water country to Uganda, at least both of you started around the same time.
with Ghana, the infrastructure supporting interoperability of all money on major platforms works and is miles ahead of Kenya.
Kenya co-operative movement -Africa largest cooperative movement -
Africa need such kind of cooperative movement - not communism.
Kenya cooperative movement has asset base of 6B dollars - and CO-OP bank is now in Bankers Top 1000 - and in Africa top 25 banks (No bank in Ghana can even beat that )
2NK - with 2,000 members - Public Taxi/Transport with 800 minibuses with 240 million in assets.
The only thing limited here is your thinking capacity. M-pesa will remain the trailblazer and is light years ahead of MOMO. I used MOMO in Uganda - pretty lame. It's like Mpesa 10yrs ago.
Just40: another noise yet your Mpesa has limited capability as shown by your fellow.
That is a USSD app. In kenya you can do it that way - or simply with STK app - every bank has their business no and the account number or through mobile app.
vaxx: stop lying and be articulate with your logic .
this is my own mobile wallet. show me some evidence like this.
you will notice the option 6 is taking about bank transfer
There are many ways; from native safaricom app, from USSD and from mobile apps; Please Kenya began mobile money in 2007; when were still paying for the Golden Stool fine.
vaxx: I have given you prove from your own central bank. all others garbage you are typing are just rant .
You seriously believe there is even one single aspect of mobile money that Ghana;s South Africa's MOMO is ahead of kenya Lol - no existing tech in kenya to transfer money from bank account to phone wallet - are we in 2008 There many ways to transfer money btw your bank and the mobile accounts in kenya; it non issue.
vaxx: stop shifting the goal post, the fact is , there is no existing technology in Kenya that support transferring money from bank account to phone wallet and vice versa .
you can actually received foreings funds into your phone wallet in Ghana thru world remmit and the rest. what you need to do is to download the mobile money app .
from your own central bank
The benefits of one mobile wallet-to-another interoperability for customers are immediate and substantial. Networked customers will avoid the expense and inconvenience of reloading or withdrawing via network agents. The customer’s mobile wallet is mirrored. Funds are immediately visible upon receipt, regardless of the network. Customers can also withdraw money in their wallets from agents in their network, “said a statement from the Kenyan central bank""
This means that with Kenya’s interoperability it is only from one phone to the other or one mobile wallet to the other which precludes payments through banks.
Which facts - you get your own data - based on mobile accounts - and extrapolate to market share. That is uber-nonsense. Safaricom M-pesa is 99% of mobile money - yet the other telcoms have millions of mobile money users.
Just30: so now you are disputing the facts again ?
Nonsense human
According to MTN themselves, they have less than 60% market share in the mobile money area.
M1, M2, M3 - can tell you how much money is in Kenya - it about half Nigeria - and Ghana doesn't even feature.
Wizzzzmike: This show how poor Kenyans are and their population is almost twice our population...very sad...I heard when Kenyans borrow money from their Momo they don't pay back lol. Broke ass ppl lol
Does that sound so complicated in Ghana - there is nothing you have done in Ghana MoMo that was not done maybe 4yrs ago in Kenya.
vaxx: when you are able to transfer money from your safaricom phone wallet to any bank in Kenya, let me know . what you have only exist among major telecom platform not from telecom to banks
Ignorance is a bliss. Why not use Google or consult your vodoo expert. You can actually sent money from your phone to anyone in East Africa on any network in Kenya - and of course all the paypals, western union, name it.
vaxx: stop acting stupid, the only mobile infrastructure that exist in Kenya is transferring wallet from the same telecommunication company and not from telecommunication to the bank. the one will freely enjoy here in Ghana.
borrowing, buying shares and paying for goods and services is normal event here.
You're jumping all over. MTN Group is 90% of your Mobile Money - and therefore we can trust your master to tells us about your mobile money - than your empty links - without a report or a methodology.
Again what makes you think kenya has not done that. We began it and has done all that. I tell in Kenya most people can operate cashless. I personally rarely have any cash around me in Kenya.
While you're talking accessing banks account - kenyan borrow more than I think 1B dollars daily through their phones. There were at one point about 50 digital lenders.
Whatever you can think about in mobile money spaces - it's been done in kenya! Kenya is the mecca of it.
vaxx: Your only problem is simply because you are educated in Kenya. in Ghana, when you have moble money, it is has good as you have bank account cus it does not limit you for any available transaction, either usssd, mobile wallet, QR payment and others .
when Kenya adopt such system let me know . Your out model money mobile wallet still operate in silos .
More lies. Put links to any trash you post like I did. Again MOMO is 90% of your mobile money.
In the first half of 2020 the value of MTN MoMo transactions was US$61.2 billion, and the group processed 11,752 MoMo transactions a minute across its markets, up 28% from 9,193 transactions a minute in 2019. Vodacom and Safaricom's mobile money platform, M-Pesa, also saw gains during the 2020 pandemic.
Just30: MTN Ghana transaction for half year was 40 billion dollars and guess what, MTN is not the only player. There are other 2 players.
So out of that figure, Ghana transaction was more than 50%of it.
Pesalink - links every bank account with mobile money - and there are so many virtual mobile money bank accounts - with ability to get loans and all that in kenya.
You're just babies here...trying to walk when you should be crawling.
vaxx: When you begin to links banks and mobile money all thru let me know . alphabetic Mofo"
