Timotee: That isn't the way to respond to people. He's looking for guidance and not someone to write him off. We should be courteous and nice when responding to people. I believe his question is valid enough. Apologies please. |

hybeenoni: Good everyone and I appreciate the way you respond to different questions asked here, I have a troubling issue on my mind and would appreciate your kind response.
Graduated since 2011 and since jobs was not forthcoming, had to resort to personal hustling to keep body and soul together.
Now issue is this, plan to go for a graduate program in US and already written the gre, though didn't hit my target score but the score is sufficient to get me admission and funding in US
Now I'm worried on how to answer the question ' what have you been doing since you graduate? '
Does replying that teaching mathematics is enough? Will applying for and getting admission for a PhD Mathematics cover me in this regards or just MSc admission with funding be enough?
I'm really worried. Thanks in anticipation |

Ubah1: Either way, you can use both. You just need a consent letter from the signatories to the account in order to use the company account. I never knew it is possible until now. I am adding that to my bank of knowledge. |

Gloryemo: Hello house, please can one use company account for bank statement? I need answers pls. Has anyone used it before and how did it go?
Thanks When you say company's account, do you mean for instance, Mummy has a company registered in her name, e.g. Alakija ventures, and you want to present the company's SOA, or on the other side, the company's SOA belongs to a company owned by a group of people? if it is the former, I don't think it should be a problem, although gurus in the house can say better, but if it is the later (own by a group of people), that outrightly shouldn't be an option, in my own opinion. Either way, fellow Nairalanders, help solve this equation as there may be others with such dilemma. |

Emusan: Please house, is it advisable for someone in early 30 to apply to a COLLEGE in US?
If admission was given, hope there won't be any hindrance at embassy? Thanks Excuse me, it is not advisable, the VO will be very concerned about what you have been doing since you graduate from High school, in fact, when you say college, it could either mean Highschool or higher institution, either way, at age 30, don't waste your resources if it is not an MSc program. |

stastra: I didn't get much advice from my last thread on the main page..However I am trying again and hope nairaland can turn up for me this time on here and give me some credible advice this time.. This was my last post ;
Please I need your urgent advice concerning my travel plans for my masters in the USA..I was giving admission but denied a Visa at the embassy twice around June, July..However I deferred my admission to Spring 2019 and already got my i20 for about two weeks now..I don't want to do it wrong this time and in need of advice on how to go about reapplying for the Visa..Time is going by and the earlier I book an appointment, the better...Thank you all in advance.
................................
I've heard I was denied because I am 29 old that is single, with my father as my sponsor which is actually true..In fact all my details in the last form was very correct and true, but now I am being told you'd rather lie to get the visa..Weird isnt it? Now I've been advice to apply as married, probably with a kid and change a few things in the form, since it's over two months from my last application....Can this help pls and does it have an consequences? Time is running out and I am yet to book an appointment..PLEASE HELP!!! Denied because you are 29 and still single, hey, bro, don't bring that closer to me at all, I am 31 and still single, so, where in the visa policy was it stated that at a particular age, you must have been married before applying for F1 visa? Probably, something was wrong during the conversation with the VO. I am engaged, and that is all. |

martAKINOLA: V.o: good morning
Me: I'm good, how was your night
V.o: what's your study plan
Me: I'm going to Lincoln university to pursue my bachelors degree in sonogrpahy
V.o: tell me about this course
Me: sonograpy is and aspect in diagnostic imaging that involves the use of ultrasound, it is used to view internal body structures like the kidney liver, muscles, the heart, feotus in a pregnant woman .
In the aspect of viewing the heart it is used to check the rate of blood flow to the heart and the aspect of pregnant women is to check if the feotus is in the right position and the condition of the feotus the breathing rate and the likes.
V.o what will this course do for you?
Me: with the look of things here in Nigeria, the course is very much alien to us the common one here is radiography, radiographers are still trying to improve their practice to sonography level. So with this course I've an upper hand in taking a sonography job in Gani faweyinmi diagnostic centre in ondo state
V.o: how many schools did you apply to?
Me: 3
V.o: name them
Me: Lincoln university, Cleveland state university and university of lowa
V.o: how many admits
Me: all
V.o: why Lincoln?
Me: I chose Lincoln over all because they have excellent course curriculum and are dedicated in training students the the basic and practical knowledge needed for them to be a professional in this field, and their weather over there is closer to that of Nigeria, it is about 23°c at this time of the year so it will be very easy for me to survive there
V.o: who is your sponsor
Me: my mum
V.o: what does she do
Me: she is a business woman into oil and gas, she is the CEO of Nicon filling station with 3 filling stations. 1 in Ondo town and the remaining two in Akure city
V.o: do you have her statement
Me: yes I do, here they are.
V.o: I'll be holding on your passport take this white paper pick your passport where circled here.
Boom naso I run joyfully go house
please gurus hemme screen the transcript To start with, I love the fact that you are bold enough to come up with this, but the truth is, you still have lots of work to do with your transcript before you even pay the visa fee. I am not a VO, but I have studied enough of both successful (issued visa) and unsuccessful (denied) transcripts, and I have seen the asymmetrical relationship between the two sides. Please, go to the first page of this thread, you will see a link to download both successful and failed transcripts, then, study both, and use them to develop a personalized transcript for yourself. I recommend this to all those who are yet to come up with a Professionally styled transcript. I love you all. Gracias |

lextube: Hello all,
Please I have a question that's begging for answers. I want to go for a Master's program during the spring admission in the U.S. I applied to 5 Universities, I got admission into 2 of the Universities, while 3 denied me admission. The 2 Universities I got admission into are private Universities with no funding.
I want to ask, is it possible for someone to get an f-1 visa with a form i-20 from a private University, even after being denied admission from other reputable Universities? Starting with the schools' tuition fees, I hope you know that your sponsor's SOA must cover up the tuition fees before you can boldly convince the VO that you aren't a potential immigrant? You may try to push for funding package, you wouldn't know what could come up. |

Uzzy785: Hi. I am going for a masters in health services administration at Tulane University SPHTM. This place is truly a gold mine and I learnt so much here. I got approved on 27th of sept in abj. Just picked up my passport today. I felt I should give back to the community. There is a lot of background story to this interview but for the sake of brevity i will just go straight to my interview. This was my 2nd attempt.
V.O, good morning
Me, good morning
V.O, where are you going to
Me, Tulane university in new orleans for a masters in health services administration otherwise known as health care management
V.O, how did you hear about the school
Me, when i first made up my mind that i wanted a masters, i went to google and searched for top 20 schools of public health in USA, then i bagan checking each school on their official website. Tulane ranked 12th on the US news and world reports and also My supervisor mentioned the school as one at the forefront on research on tropical diseases which is important to Nigeria...V.O, i will stop you right there.
V.O, why now when you do not have enough medical experience
Me, Not at all, I have been a medical doctor for over 3 yrs now (told her all i have done since graduation till now, all the things on my DS160). V.O, I will stop you right there, so why now?
Me, Based on this experience, i have witnessed a lot of heart shattering things such as people not being able to afford drugs, doctors and healthworkers going on strike, people dying of preventable diseases. Most burdersome is how crippled the country is when we have epidemics. We have manpower and appreciable material resources, what we lack is good administration, planning and execution on how to generate an output that covers the health issues of all Nigerians. This is why i am going to the US to gain such transferable skills. I also have plans of owning my own hospital in Nigeria in the next 6yrs and I need this training to be able to run it efficiently and effectively with aims of giving affordable and accessible health care to my people...VO...i will stop you right there.
V.O, who is sponsoring this
Me, My uncle and i mentioned his name
V.O, can i see a statement
Me, yes, here you go
VO, what does he do
Me, told her
V.O, why is he doing this.
Me, he has always been supportive of my academic pursuits and wants me to be an instrument of positive change in the healthsector of this country
V.O looks at me seriously then says...do you agree to take full responsibility of this document if its found to be fake, this will cost you a 10yrs ban
Me, Yes, its authentic.
V.O, Ok, you have been approved...then the famous temporary deafness started....you will need this i20 at the port of entry... Me, come again...repeats herself. Your passport will be available so so date, Me, pls come again....VO repeats herself....VO, you wont be able to enter the US 30 days before start of school so the earliest date for you to enter the US is so so date...Me, pls come again...VO, repeats herself. Are you clear with all i have said? Me, yes
V.O, picks up the white paper and hands it over to me, do have a nice day. Me, and you too.
Few tips that i can give based on my experience.
1st believe in yourself, sounds cliche right but its tested and trusted. My 1st interview, i met the infamous african american woman and honestly it was not pleasant atall. So if you know within you that you did the whole process yourself, had all your documents intact like i did and the only issue was the interview, do try again.
I am single, in my twenties and have not travelled before. So do not let that bother you so much.
Avoid agents pls. Avoid agents pls. They can be soo wicked. Do everything yourself. Come here for information
Pls be confident, its necessary...there was this guy shouting ontop of his voice thinking it was projecting confidence but we listening could hear the anxiety in every syllable what more the V.O. He was denied. Pls practice well before hand.
I have always been confident about my abilities. GPA 3.6/4 (Wes evaluated). GRE total 310. Applied kindda late to 8 schools was admitted into 7. Two gave me partial scholarships. So i was pretty confident. After the 1st denial, i was truly humbled but i am a resilient fellow. I hardly give up. I found God again...lol, sounds funny but its true. I prayed harder than I did before the 1st interview. I had to trust God this time and it worked.
Listen to motivationals, they helped me alot. I went on youtube, saw a lot. I discovered TD Jakes. What a gifted speaker. It will help you get over the few days depression and push you on.
I had to also contact ppl here to help me. Some answered, some didnt and i understand. People are busy with school, work and all but for a shy guy like me who likes to keep my business my business, i dreaded putting up my enquiries so i contacted the ones i noticed gave enlightening responses with a touch of humanity and who were willing to help others. Few answered, most didnt. So go with the ones that replied you.
Pls during the interview, learn to talk, express yourself. Do not be rigid. A lady i observed who was laughing with the consular officer and smiling through out got hers. I had to learn to smile like those beauty pagent models. My first interview was corrupted with the mantra of dont talk if not spoken to, do not answer what you were not asked...so i was a one word answering machine..yes, no...i did not even expatiate on questions and there was this long period when she was just typing on end, i was expecting more questions but none came afterwords because i read here how brief one had to be, anyways the point is pls by all means express yourself fully. When you notice them typing for long, present your case again, talk about the school, ask for opinion on the city you intend to go to school, say your future plans for Nigeria. Dont just keep mute. Let the V.O be the one to say 'stop' At last, we have goodnews and the first one in the month of October, congratulations. More please, we need more to build our confidence. |

I got admitted for Spring and their consideration for funding is held separately from Admission. I have rejected the admit because I was required to do two prerequisites which I have to pay full credit fee for. The school being a private school is expensive for small aspirant Big God like us. I got admitted too, but I am waiting for the other schools(public) before I can take the next steps prior to visa application. I wish us success. |

I got my admission to New Haven last week Monday, they request that I pay $300 tuition deposit before they can issue admission letter. Is it the same case with you? Concerning the funding, I have swept through their site, I think you must have been a registered student before you can apply for the funding. let's continue the rest behind the scene, pm me. |

This is because I currently have a uni that promise grants and scholarships in M.S Operations and Projects mgt. Anything is possible, it's even more convincing if you get scholarship from the school, it shows you are a promising candidate in Management science, and the way you put up your SOP to convince the faculty which earned you a scholarship is the same setup you will place on the table for the VO. Right now, your scholarship is your joker to win at the interview, provided you can convince him with how you have been working tirelessly as a project management officer. Success is my wish for us. |

ritlala: Hello everybody, please help me access my mock transcript, my interview is next week, this is my second attempt, I will appreciate if I can get corrections and contributions from the house. Thank you all. Please remember me in your prayers as I go next week for my interview.
VO: Good morning.
Me: Good morning.
VO: passport and I20
(I passed it)
VO: So I see you’re going to Westcliff University in Irvine
Me: that’s correct. Irvine, California
VO: what program are you going there for?
Me: Master of Business Administration with a concentration in International Business
VO: So where did you first learn about this school.
Me: I first saw it on a former schoolmate’s profile on LinkedIn, he then told me many good things about the school, He did his MBA there. I went further to do a personal online research on the school, I checked college review and the school’s website and I liked what I saw with regard to their College of Business.
VO: So did you choose any other school apart from this?
Me: yes! Park University, Parkville Missouri, Claremont Graduate University, Claremont, California and Westcliff.
VO: so were you accepted into all 3?
Me: I was accepted by Westcliff and Claremont.
VO: so why choose this school?
Me: Westcliff has the right combination of disciplines and courses. Here’s what I mean: Unlike Park University that has international business as a separate department from MBA, giving me a bit of dilemma, westcliff combines the two. So I get to have a background training in specialized functions as finance, marketing and Human Resources and still get a full doze of my concentration in International business.
Also westcliff business management philosophy looks beyond the tradition perceptions of economics, and instead espouses management as a human enterprise and liberal arts, focusing on social theory, history and sustainability. This is a much easier way of learning a course, as it adds some creativity and less technical jargons
VO: so what kind of school is this?
Me: It is a private university, regionally accredited, and offers programs towards business or education, their student demography tends to be professionals
VO: what’s your schedule for this program?
Me: so it’s a 36 credit program spanning two years. 27 credits in courses such as organizational behavior, organizational leadership, managerial accounting, financial management, marketing management, strategic management in globalized economy, managerial economics, applied methods capstone and managing information systems technology. 9 credits for my area of concentration in int’l business
VO: when did you finish your first degree?
Me: 2011, although the session was officially 2009/2010, the semester dragged into the first quarter of 2011.
VO: So what have you been doing since you graduated?
Me: Since after my NYSC in 2012, I have worked as a banker and Since 2015 till date I have been with xyz bank as head abc unit in one of the branches where I’m responsible for the cashflow of the branch, supervise a team of tellers who are in charge of “this this this and that”, I also supervise the tellers in charge of foreign exchange for customers who do int’l trade, PTA, BTA and international money remittances. On the side, personally I also partly function as a consultant for my uncle’s Bureau de Change company.
VO: So what will this degree do for you?
Me: Apart from the strategic business knowledge I will be gaining, this degree places me on the right pedestal to take up an upper managerial role in the bank’s International Business department, a dept and role I’ve in principle been earmarked for, but the bank feels this degree is so appropriate. I will also be better equipped with the needed knowledge to start up my own business in financial services consulting and foreign exchange in due time.
VO: who will be paying for this program?
Me: My uncle for whom I partly work will, I also have savings of my own and a certain percentage of scholarship granted me by the school
VO: can I have documents for that. ( hand her my statement, uncle’s and scholarship letter)
Me: (while she is going through the SOAs) my statement is a money market account statement, I decided using that because of the high interest rate as a against the regular savings account, but I have a letter of introduction here from the bank stating that it could be liquidated at anytime.
VO: why would your uncle wanna pay for you?
Me: Apart from being like a foster father and very much involved in my education, he’s very impressed with my work and loyalty and is interested in how this degree would impart to both me and his business
VO: what does he do?
Me: Primarily he owns a bureau de change company like I said and also imports and sells building materials such as tiles and marbles
VO: So what was your first degree
Me: English and Literature.
VO: And why are you going for a totally different one from your first degree?
Me: (smiling] even though my first degree was in the arts I have worked all my post first degree life as a banker and all I’ve been doing is finance, marketing, managerial accounting organization leadership. Going to do a course now in English or literature doesn’t actually help my career. This MBA does and enhances it
VO: so how often will you attend classes in a week at Westcliff.
Me: while classes are weekly the MBA program is a very rigorous one as assignments are due multiple times a week. I would also have many projects and presentations due every other week. I also get to occupy my time with participating in the on-campus organizations (hiking club, peer mentors, and more). The school also now has 5 athletic programs and encourage students to attend games to be involved with the Westcliff community. Well done, you must have put a lot of energy together to come up with this professional response, but I need to be candid, you sound too professional and overly prepared, haba, as much as we need to use some obscure terms to sound professional, we should know there are limits to which we can present our professionalism,as these VOs can easily detect and discern when we are overly prepared. Try to use some simple and lay man terms. Also, when asked about the name of the school, don't very correct, or what wa that statement you made when VO mentioned the school name, I am not contended with your response to the VO. Likewise, I have issue with the fact that uncle is into Bereau de change and also sells tiles and the likes, what if this is where you need a more professional title for your uncle? I also have issues with this response, while classes are weekly the MBA program is a very rigorous one as assignments are due multiple times a week , how did you know the program is very rigorous, at least. you said your friend was an alumni, so how come you know the kinds of assignments, you never mentioned that you are have been in touch with any current student....you need to work on all I mentioned while awaiting other responses from gurus in the house. Success....I am still waiting for my admission from three schools before I apply for my visa. |

Spotlighte: See, it's simple. If you're applying to schools that require official transcripts, it means all schools you went to post-secondary school must send your transcripts to them before your application can be considered. It's an "official transcripts or no admission for you" thing.
If it costs 30k for each transaction and you're applying to 8 schools that require official transcripts, then yea, be prepared to pay 240k. If you don't get admitted to the schools, you'll take your L in peace.
Well, why not look for schools that only require official transcript(s) when you've been admitted to the programme? Or better still have a mix? I don't know, I'm just saying. @spotlighte , I have seen your responses in the past, and I concluded that you must be a guru in this field, but don't make me think otherwise, just go and read his post again, probably you don't understand what he said....he said there are options to upload the transcript in the schools application portal, which is what I also did for all my four schools. in as much as you have the official transcript with you, and they gave you access to upload it on their portal, you are good to go. |

Timotee: Many US schools use unofficial transcripts for admission purposes and upon admission, your official transcript is required to be sent. Clarify from the schools that you're applying to if that's the case with them. If it is, send a copy of your transcript to yourself and then use that copy as the unofficial copy for your admission applications. The same advice I gave him before someone came to try misleading him. Sending official transcript when admission isn't certain is synonymous to waste of money and time as resources. |

homirefacuny: I have a question and would be glad if anyone can answer. I was denied a visiting visa on the 8th of May this year. Now I got an admission for a MSc program in TN with GTA offer just today. The school resumes on the 22nd of Next month. I would like to know if it's reasonable to pursue the said program... I mean the visa. Will the denial in May not affect my outcome?? Pls advice Nice attempt, as it means you have been looking forward to and planning the admission towards ending of the year, but you wanted to visit your relative over there to know how life is before going back for academics. Is that not the case? Don't say otherwise. |
