Even from the root of our discourse, "modern" has always being there.

Besides, would I be discussing an ancient city with you, are we in ancient times?

EnlightenedSoul: You're talking about maternity leave. Well, it isn't a "law" as you put it, but some companies already avoid hiring younger women because of that. Businesses aren't allowed to ask women about their childcare plans or plans to have children, so the only thing they can take a guess on is being a woman of the right age. But 1 in 5 women in the US don't have children through choice or circumstance, and the bulk of maternity leave is paid by the state.
Don't tell me what some companies do or any other story.

I am asking you "Is the action it right, fair and not cruel to women" considering the employers would apply the same assessment to both sexes?

Why don't you just define a city for us as Sagamite has been asking you?

Misogynist2014: 720k is even more than the population of some countries grin . THE CHARACTERISTICS OF CITY ARE :
* A large town.(Town has population of 10,000 or more)
*Has a greater population than town but less than 500k
*It gives more services than town.

Foreign AffairsRe: ‘yes Means Yes” The New Sex Law Of California by Sagamite(m): 8:53pm On Sep 06, 2014
EnlightenedSoul: That would be discrimination. Rather it is perfectly acceptable for an employer to fire anyone who is presently in their employ for being frequently tardy or absent. Besides, an employer can refuse to employ.
So it is fair if an employer decides not to employ someone because they can easily see that if they employed this person, they might end up paying money for a period when the person would not be doing any work?

And that would be fair because at least they will apply that assessment it to both sexes (only that only one sex is susceptable)? grin grin grin

So all this anti-sexist laws in the West are moronic?

Don't worry, I am still coming to your "cruelty" with aplomb. I just want to milk this a bit.

EnlightenedSoul: Please illustrate the cruelty in this law.

As for your example, I don't know if you're pulling things from your own life, but how one breaks up is a personal thing. Anyone, man or woman, can choose to be direct or indirect. I've always been direct myself.

I don't think the law you mentioned is cruel. If someone is not coming to work, or has frequent tardies, the employer has every right to fire them.

I'm more concerned with your logic tbh...
So before I go into the cruelty, so you are telling me that if employers refuse to employ people they think would be a high cost without any additional profitability to them because of child-care, or fire people who just had a child, that is fair and not cruel? grin grin grin grin grin

That would be an interesting logic.

EnlightenedSoul: I doubt it's usefulness (the law), but I don't see how it's "against men". 1 in 33 men will be ra.ped in his lifetime, men are 82,000x more likely to be ra.ped than falsely accused and yet you and others try to make "false accusations" out as some devastatingly common occurrence instead of facing the real problem facing men and women in this realm: RA.PE. Even in the event of a false accusation, the system does not convict unless substantial proof is provided. In actuality, there are an overwhelming number of guilty individuals walking free due to lack of substantial evidence.

Abortion is yet another discussion. We'll have to see how the law pans out, but I don't see how it's "cruel". Your ability to be responsible for your own actions is not dependent on another person's so-called responsibility or lack thereof - that IS clear.
Trust a typical woman's logic! grin grin grin grin

Of course you will not see it as against men, cruel or wrong as long as it does not affect women. grin

Actually, I am sure you will argue it is actually helpful to men just like you women like to train mugu men that wrongs done to them that you will not allow to be done to you is actually to help them. grin grin grin grin grin

E.g. I will avoid him or cause frequent fights to make sure w break up instead of courageously sitting him down and telling him to his face you want to break up. You only did it to help him and save him heart-ache. But you moan when a man dumbs you without being "Man enough" to tell you to your face. grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Yes, I agree with you. This law is as un-cruel, un-wrong and un-against men as a law that allows employers to fire people who cannot come to work for child-care reasons is not cruel, wrong or against women. grin

At least it would apply to both sexes in theory and it would help women take care of their kids better. cheesy

EnlightenedSoul: Because I argue this cause, I am emotional or have emotional issues? Laughable. I am very well aware of the fact that someone out there is "getting ra.ped" as you so eloquently put it - it happens every ninety seconds or less. You think it naive of me to challenge a dangerous view on an online forum and perhaps you are right in that, but the way I see it leaving it unchallenged isn't any better, especially since it's showing up directly in my mentions. If I cannot bring the writers of the comments to reason, my only hope would be to provide the audience with a comprehensive argument and hope it reaches a like-minded individual from their "school of thought". If you believe that "anyone who drinks her life out must face the consequences", I do not consider ra.pe a fair consequence of drinking, and additionally believe that anyone who ra.pes an incapacitated/sober person deserves all the sex offender and felony charges that befall him/her in a court of law.

As for Greek philosophy, mythology, or Greek anything, I studied at a private school most of my life - we beat that stuff with a stick and smoothed it out with an ironing board. Quite a few philosophers were particularly opposed to women having any sort of role in society outside of child bearing. I'm closely acquainted with Aristotle's views through my own interest in philosophy. In this respect, however, I'm more attuned to the views Plato and Socrates; two of the big three in Greek philosophy, and the teachers of Aristotle.

I'm actually quite happy with my life. The only man I "obey" is my father, and even him I disagree with on occasion. I haven't noticed any change in "strength" in my doing so.

You've lost me...
You say they'd find happiness in simply obeying men and "kneeling before men during sex just to cum" but in that same breath add that that leads to lesbianism and divorcehuh

I find your argument inconclusive. It is obvious to anyone with a rational mind that there is a culture of ra.pe, and blaming the victim for the act of the ra.pist. You can see it in this very thread. It is in fact common to punish women for being ra.ped in certain parts of the world. That there are/were some harsh punishments of old "deviced by men" doesn't address the issue at hand.

You're going off on another tangent: equality. That's another discussion. But LMFAO@Hilary Clinton. I find it interesting that you're attributing the idea of equality and it's so-called "marriage breaking" nature to Hilary specifically.

I doubt it's usefulness (the law), but I don't see how it's "against men". 1 in 33 men will be ra.ped in his lifetime, men are 82,000x more likely to be ra.ped than falsely accused and yet you and others try to make "false accusations" out as some devastatingly common occurrence. Even in the event of a false accusation, the system does not convict unless substantial proof is provided. If fact, there are an overwhelming number of guilty individuals walking free due to lack of substantial evidence.

Interesting. I don't consider myself a victim, and I've never thought of "men's height" which I consider an interesting notion and one that denotes an inferiority complex. I do however have my own ambitious goals that I strive for and want for myself. As for advice, I seek it whenever necessary from loved ones and experienced individuals whose advice I've come to value. I've no standing gender clause on that.

Abortion is yet another discussion. We'll have to see how the law pans out, but I don't see how it's "cruel". Your ability to be responsible for your own actions is not dependent on another person's so-called responsibility or lack thereof - that IS clear.
You are yet to list for us which countries you know of that women are arrested for raape (i.e. sex without consent) by having sex with drunk men.

Please, the floor is yours, enlighten us with your soul as your name suggests.

On my earlier post it was an error writing 'brain',wanted to write 'thinking'
No. This person said population does not determine if a place is called a city. That, as he was taught by his Plinsipal contunu, it is if a place has good roads, electricity, portable water and modern infrastructures.

So Buckingham is a city but Lagos, Ibadan and Kano are just villages. He said a village can have millions of people.

That is the person's argument. grin grin grin

WeNdigbo: Boko Haram: Jonathan declares full-scale
war ,deploys warplanes
on september 06, 2014 at 9:50 am in headlines
Facebook Share Twitter Share
By Kingsley Omonobi (With agency reports)
Nigerian warplanes are carrying out air strikes
against Boko Haram militant bases at Bama,
Borno State, a senior official said yesterday, in a
government counter-attack against Boko Haram’s
drive to create an Islamist enclave.
The official, who asked not to be named, told
Reuters Nigeria’s military was battling Boko
Haram fighters at Bama, 70 km (45 miles)
southeast of the Borno state capital Maiduguri.
Air strikes have been carried out “on all the Boko
Haram bases”, the official said, adding this
reflected President Goodluck Jonathan’s order for
a “fully-fledged war” against the group which has
waged a bloody insurgency since 2009.
“Bama today is the centre of the military battle
with the terrorists … Boko Haram is being repelled
by the Nigerian troops as we are talking now,” the
government official said, without giving details of
the operations or casualties.
The battle over Bama, and Boko Haram’s storming
of towns and villages to the north, east and south
of Maiduguri in recent weeks, has raised fears of
an attack on the Borno state capital, prompting
hundreds of civilians to flee.
“Even today, we can see so many people leaving
… the buses are going out plenty now,” Musa
Sumail, a human rights activist in Maiduguri who
reports on the violence in the northeast, told
Reuters. He said he had seen at least one or two
Nigerian government fighter jets in the skies
above Maiduguri.
We ‘ll do everything to defend our territorial
integrity –Defence Hqtr
Indeed, the Defence Headquarters said the
armed forces will do everything to defend the
nation’s sovereignty.
In a statement by Major General Chris Olukolade,
Director of Defence Information said, the armed
forces said: “DHQ wishes to reiterate the pledge
and commitment it made while briefing the Joint
Committee on Defence of the National Assembly
to the effect that everything will be done to
reverse the situation and defeat the rampaging
terrorists.
“While welcoming all the concerns shown by
Nigerians and a section of the international
community following the increased menace and
activities of terrorists, it is necessary to reassure
all that the Nigerian Armed Forces is more than
ever determined and committed to the defence
of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of
Nigeria, regardless of any odd.
“It is not only the pride and reputation of the
military that is at stake but that of the entire
nation. We therefore urge our citizens not to lose
hope or be disenchanted but to remain steadfast
and supportive of the military as all steps are
being taken to ensure the success of the counter-
insurgency operations, especially at this crucial
time when our sovereignty is being challenged.
“With this in mind, it is important to reiterate that
the Nigerian military is fully conscious of its
obligations to the Nigerian state and remains
willing and ready to perform its duties with
utmost diligence. Therefore, what the military
requires at this critical period in the nation’s
history is not pillories but continued support from
all stakeholders and comity of nations.
“Indeed, this is not the time to despair or shift
blames. Rather it calls for concerted effort by all
and sundry to stop the agents of darkness who
seek to destroy our country and civilization. On its
part, the Nigerian military as a fighting force,
assures Nigerians once again that this battle will
be won.”
Military ‘ve killed 1,200 insurgents –AVM
Marizu
Sharing this view, former Air Officer Commanding
Logistics Command of the Nigerian Airforce, Air
Vice Marshall Chris Marizu (rtd), yesterday,
cautioned politicians against utterances that were
capable of pitching the armed forces against the
citizens they were supposed to protect noting that
the military forces have killed 1200 Boko Haram
insurgents in the battle for Bama, Borno State.
He spoke in the light of the current challenges in
the counter-terrorism efforts in the North east
which has understandably elicited a sense of
apprehension among citizens and even foreign
allies, as
He made the disclosure just as the President of
Course 18 participants of the Nigeria Defence
Academy, Air Commodore Olufemi Agbetuyi
warned that it was high time the nation stopped
mixing politics with security issues.
Speaking at the 18th regular course re-union in
Abuja yesterday, AVM Marizu said, “People should
know that some persons who have done so much
for this country and the military institution cannot
just be rubbished on the altar of politics.
“Some unscrupulous citizens of this country are
using the advantages that they enjoy under
democracy to malign the military with innuendos
and statements without facts. All the things that
Mr. Davies said for instance, there was nothing in
it and no facts to buttress anything. The angle of
aircraft for instance, was Ihejirika the Chief of Air
Staff?
“It shows there are undemocratic elements
working in tandem with outsiders trying to
destroy this country. For instance, the last few
days, the media has been awash with reports that
Boko Haram has over-run Bama and taken over
the city whereas, the reverse is the case. We have
troops there and we are in touch on a daily basis”
“The truth is that as at Tuesday, our soldiers had
killed over 700 Boko Haram insurgents during the
battle. The following day, another 500 terrorists
were killed.
What is happening is not what is being reported in
the newspapers and sometimes I wonder if the
media are Nigerian media or what they seek to
gain by running our soldiers down” In his
contribution, Air Commodore Agbetuyi cautioned
politicians in the country against trying to bring
the name of the military into disrepute warning
that doing so will amount bringing down the
military. On allegation against General Azubuike
Ihejirika, he said, “Some political elites do not
understand what the man went through as COAS,
the sleepless nights, the sacrifices General
Ihejirika made for the country.
I recall how he was tackling the security challenge
in the country and some Nigerians who do not
understand or pretending not to, or some
enemies of Nigeria said the army was killing
people indiscriminately. The same people today
are saying he sponsors Boko Haram. Does it make
sense?”
