dayokanu: Bebeto won the biggest trophy in football. How many times do I have to remind you of that.
But DK, you said "If you are good, big clubs come for you?".

How come they did not come for Bebeto, was he shyt or was he one of the best players in his era?

Your criteria is crumbling, omoboy. grin

dayokanu: Did Benny Mccarrhy also start a CL Final like Kanu? Stop comparing apples and oranges
Oh! Na start be the emphasis? grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

Okay, Derlei started (I bet you don't even know who he is grin grin grin grin grin). So according to your logic, he is better than Batistuta becausee he started CL final? grin

dayokanu: Finidi played for Ipswich at his decline. Do you know where Dinho plays currently ?? Does that remove anything from him ?
Lets say I agree with you, even though I don't. What about Betis?

How come Barca, Juve, Man U, Madrid, Bayern etc were not coming for him? Was that because he was shyt?
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:21pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: You can choose your opinion you can't choose your fact. Facts are sacred. Ajax is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
Hell no!

Ajax is hardly anywhere where better or as rich as even Arsenal?

Tell me, is Bebeto shyt?

How come Finidi was bought by Real Betis and Ipswich? He was shyt? Why not Man U, Arsenal, Madrid or Barca?

dayokanu: JT was in the team they felt it and won Barcelona and Bayern Munich

Mikel was a key player for Chelsea when they won the CL last May
Mikel is not a key player for Chelsea, he is only a regular player.

Even Busquet cannot claim key player for Barca. They are easily replaceable.
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:17pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: That's to you. I can say to me shooting stars is the best club in the world or Alhaji Adamu is the richest man in the world.

To the football world CL is the next biggest stage after the world cup.
I am not saying it is not the biggest stage, I am saying because a player plays in it does not mean greatness.

So according to your logic, Derlei and Benni McCarthy, are greater strikers than Bebeto and Batistuta because they played at CL final and won.

Really? grin grin grin grin grin grin
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:13pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: That's an opinion. Fact is Mikel started and won a CL something okocha never achieved. John Terry didn't start and Chelsea still won I'm sure someone like you would say the teams chances reduced
Nah! Chelsea won something not Mikel.

If JT was not in the team. THEY FEEL IT!

Remove Mikel and he is replaceable. No more loss than losing Welbeck!
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:12pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Finidi was bought by Ajax one of the biggest clubs in European history. Okocha never achieved anything close
Rubbish!

Ajax is not one of the biggest clubs in history.

If Ajax is one of the biggest clubs in history then you can say Porto and PSG are also one of the biggest.

How come Finidi was bought by Real Betis and Ipswich? He was shyt?

Was Bebeto also shyt?
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:09pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Kanu started a CL. Final he captained an Olympic winning side. Tell us anything Okocha achieved close to these
Unfortunately starting a CL final means nothing to me as anc achievement. Nor does wearing a captains armband.

If you control the game, bang in goals like wata and/or are a source of inspiration everytime you are on the pitch, then that means something to me.

If you like wear cowboy hat on the pitch, that is not an achievement.
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:02pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Psg is not in the league of Lyon.
Why is PSG not in the league of Lyon? grin

dayokanu: How's Valencia better than finidi. What has he won that finidi didn't
But no big club bought Finidi now, so he is not good. A big club bought Valencia, he is a star. grin

Bebeto is also shyt!

dayokanu: If you are good big teams would seek you. That's why big teams sought Kanu all through and only mediocre sides looked at okocha
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 7:00pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Okocha was largely a benchWarmer in ANC win of 94.

Kanu captained the Olympic team and number 6 in the whole world
So the bench of Okocha matters but the bench of Kanu makes him the greatest ever while other people do the majority of the work? grin
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 6:58pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Lyon won several league titles. Can't be compared to PSG.
And what makes you think PSG has not won several titles?

PSG is not one of the top teams in France?

dayokanu: Mikel Kanu Finidi all started champions league final.

What factor is used to judge Messi as a great player
His contribution on the pitch.

Tell me, is Valencia better than Finidi?
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 6:56pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Mikel won a champions league. Did okocha win anything in his career as a key member of the team
Okocha won ANC and Olympics!!!

If Mikel was removed from the team are you saying his team's chances would drastically reduce?

How was Kanu key member of his team?

By sitting on the bench most times?
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 6:51pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Gazza played for Lazio. Juninho for Lyon. Bebeto won the world cup. Cannigia played for Roma which of these can Okocha match

Jayjay na just circus entertainer
How are Lazio, Roma and Lyon bigger names than PSG?

But if Bebeto was good, big clubs would come for him na? So maybe you are suggesting he did nothing at the WC they won then.

Surely you are saying Bebeto is shyt because big clubs never bought him.

dayokanu: My list has a reason my top 3 won the champions league the best stage of football after the world cup
Their teams won, not them.
SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 6:49pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: Kanu started a champions league final. The biggest level of football after the world cup final

My list would be like

Kanu
Finidi
Mikel
Taribo
Oliseh
Yekini
Amuneke
Okocha
Amokachi
Ikpeba
Be careful DK o!

People can vex and lynch you for what you did there. grin

I guess Paul Gascoigne wasn't good then.

I guess Juninho Pernambucano wasn't good then.

I guess Bebeto wasn't good then.

I guess Claudio Caniggia wasn't good then.

They are all cannot even smell Kanu. They are inferior to him? cheesy

And Valencia is way better than Finidi George? grin

jadakiss213: not necessarily and am sure u know that..
What you talk about greatness, I think you talk about ability and how you use it.

To me, that implies, who is better.

To some fucktards, greatness is who died on the pitch or was willing to play for Nigeria even though NFA (once-again) stole his flight fare refund! grin

Tgirl4real: Lol.

That break-down just said it all. I still got d golden goal sentiment all over me. Lol.

Jayjay is truly d heart of a match, there's dis confidence u get when u know he's holding the midfield. I was hoping Mikel would take after him, unfortunately NO. sad

And Yekini baba, thatz another legend.
Exactly! There are only three things that can make one give it to Kanu.

Sentiment - A very nice and skilful guy with a smile on his face that had a heart problem shortly after helping us win with super goals.

Titles - Won by teams he is in but where he hardly played.

Playing for top clubs - Even if mostly on the bench, at least they bought him.

We can as well say Mikel is one of the best 5 ever because he plays in one of the biggest clubs as a regular and is winning titles.

Hell No! Mikel is nowhere as good as Oliseh that hardly won anything meaningful.
how many games did okparaji played for nigeria, and what makes him a great player... The last time i check people only honoured him becoz of his patriotism and d fact that he died playing for nigeria... And its very normal for people to respect and fine tune the achievement of the deads (the same they called abiola and ojukwu one of the greatest leaders in africa) its only to honour them and notin much... They said the same abt foe of cameroon (some even said he was better than the great miller)... Though the 1991 zambian team that died in plane crash never achieve anytin... (zambians still call them their best team of all time) against the team that won nations cup for them...
So its normal 4 everyone to have personal opinion on okparaji....

To me i only salute his patriotism and not be becoz he waz a great player.. He z good but not a great player in my book
No min dem!

Foe better than Miller?

And bloody cretins have a right to vote! Shame!

Achievements are not based on merit, rather it is on moronic sentiments.

There is nothing more annoying than people that make dogmatic statements they cannot even attempt to defend.

Next time, you and that person should shut the fck up if you know you cannot defend a statement. Keep it to yourself.

mrjingles: I agree with sagamite on this, Jay Jay ahead of kanu, he gave the eagles over 13 years of sterling performances. Kanu wd have been untouchable if not the heart issue, it really took a lot out of him.
Yep, he was looking like the potential greatest until after the Olympics. After that, na bensh.

jadakiss213: Mos def...Kanu was a greater player than okocha..Africa's most decorated footballer after Etoo Fills? okocha was great no doubt but Kanu remains the greatest footballer to come out of 9ja..
Yeah, Gary Neville is more decorated than Gascoigne and Lineker, so he surely is better than them.

dayokanu: Came on in the CL final when Ajax won
Yeah, sub. grin

dayokanu: Scored the winning goal in the FA cup for Portsmouth
Abeg, and so?

dayokanu: , WOn several titles in Inter and Arsenal
No, his team mates won several titles, he watched and cheered. grin

dayokanu: Chicharito is also a benchwarmer better than many starters
As much as I am not a super fan of Kanu, I think it is even an insult to compare him to Chicharito. Oya, publicly apologise to Pappillo now. angry

Look, there is no team Kanu was not a bit-part player. He barely plays 20 matches a season and a large fraction of that 20 are as a sub or being subbed. He is only up there because of his skill and wins. He is inferior to Okocha and Yekini that are the soul of teams they played for.

Back then, when you see Yekini's name in the team, you breath more easily because you are confident "At least we go score sha. They have to pray to God they score more than us".

There are times when if Jay Jay is not playing, it is like if the team is toothless and their is no creativity.

Kanu never had that. At best you bring Kanu in in the last 10 minutes to change the approach to the game, hold on to the ball, give defenders heart attack in the box with his feints and give the occasional pass to a striker to score. He never does much if he starts.

Yekini and Jay-Jay - soul of teams.

Kanu - last few minutes impact player.

Kanu na bench-warmer jor. He is nowhere as good as Jay-Jay.

Jay Jay is the most talented and one of the top 3 most influential on the pitch Naija as ever had at SE's different primes.

SportsRe: Nigeria’s 50 Greatest Footballers Of All Time By Supersports by Sagamite(m): 5:37pm On Jan 06, 2013
dayokanu: The reason kanu is ahead of jay Jay is because Kanu is a better footballer and more purposeful than Jayjay

Its not by coincidence that one resume reads Ajax, Inter Arsenal while the other reads Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, PSG and Bolton

Big club want big players and not circus entertainers like Okocha

Its like comparing a resume that reads Accenture, Exxonmobil, Goldman Sachs to one that reads Okonkwo and Sons, Obat petroleum and Wema Bank

KANU the best
Perenial long-term bench-warmer at Ajax, Inter, Arsenal and even Portsmouth and West Brom vs. King/Alhaji/Alfa/Olugbala/Owelle/Private Jet Flying Pastor at Frankfurt, Fenerbahce, PSG and Bolton. grin

I would take the latter anyday. He was also Olugbala of Super Eagles.

That said, if I remember correctly (which I really don't care), Okwaraji wore no.8. If not no.8, then no.16 or 14.
