TravelLASTMA Averts Fire Explosion, Arrests Tanker Driver by saintbillion(op): 4:00pm On Oct 10, 2023
Lagos State Traffic Management Authority operatives successfully averted a potential fire explosion involving a petrol-laden tanker on the Stadium Bridge, heading towards Barracks/Ojuelegba on Funsho Williams Avenue, in the Surulere area of Lagos.

The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, was disclosed in a press statement issued by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq.

The statement confirmed that a Conoil tanker, loaded with Petroleum products, had toppled onto a Volkswagen Golf car, spilling its contents across the opposite side of the expressway.

To prevent the risk of a fire explosion, LASTMA officials acted as the first responders and promptly alerted other emergency response units, including the LASEMA Response Unit and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services, while the driver of the Conoil tanker, Sefiyu Adamu, was arrested and handed over to the Police for further investigation.

PoliticsPolicemen Who Came To Rescue Man Accused Of Stealing Manhood Attacked By Mob by saintbillion(op): 1:20pm On Oct 06, 2023
A mob attacked five policemen who attempted to rescue a man accused of stealing another person's manhood in the Dei Dei area of the Federal Capital Territory.

It was gathered that the policemen attached to the Gwagwa police division, had gone to rescue the man identified as Mubarak who was almost lynched by the mob on Thursday, October 5, 2023.

According to Punch, a yet-to-be-identified man had raised the alarm of his manhood disappearance after coming in contact with Mubarak.

A resident of the area who did not want to be named told the publication on Friday that the mob surrounded the accused and began to beat him to restore the alleged missing manhood.

He said the presence of the police worsened the matter as the mob rather than release the accused to them, attacked the police and destroyed their vehicle.

“On Thursday evening at Dei-Dei Timber market, a man called Mubarak was attacked by an angry mob after a man said his manhood went missing after having contact with him. He cried out for help and some people gathered round Mubarak. He was beaten and almost lynched when about five policemen came to the scene to rescue him. All efforts by the police to ensure that the mob released Mubarak to them fell on deaf ears," the witness said.

“The mob then turned to the policemen and destroyed their vehicle. Those who escaped called their office and they were reinforced to the place. The whole area was tensed yesterday and we are not even sure what would happen next. This manhood issue is getting out of hand now, it is time we do something about it."

FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh who confirmed the incident, said officers deployed to the scene were attacked by the mob.

“Our men deployed to the scene to rescue the man were attacked. Reinforcement was immediately deployed. Normalcy has been restored to the area. Lawful citizens can go about their activities without fear,” the PPR stated.

Adeh said the Commissioner of Police condemned the attack on the policemen and ordered the arrest of the perpetrators of the act.

“The CP condemned in strong terms the attack on policemen. He has ordered those involved should be arrested. We are for the umpteenth time warning against mob attacks, particularly on the issue of organ disappearance. We have arrested 14 people involved, and we will continue to do so,” she added.

A video posted on Facebook shows the mob beating a man suspected to be the said Mubarak, as one of the perpetrators kept telling him to “commot am" (the alleged stolen manhood)

PoliticsTiktok Row: Osimhen Rejects Napoli Penalty Duty by saintbillion(op): 6:52am On Oct 06, 2023
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has taken himself off penalty-taking duty for Napoli after a now infamous series of TikToks were posted to the club’s social media channels in recent weeks, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian had been left furious after two seemingly insulting videos were posted to the club’s TikTok account, one of which had mocked him as begging for a penalty then his miss from the spot in a Serie A match against Bologna at the end of September.

The videos caused an uproar for Osimhen and his supporters alike, eventually leading to the departure of one of Napoli’s social media executives.

Since the incident, Napoli have played three matches and been awarded penalties in every one of those games, yet Osimhen has not taken any of them.

Instead, Piotr Zielinski took on the responsibility against Udinese as well as against Real Madrid in Wednesday night’s Champions League clash at the Maradona.

Matteo Politano took the injury-time kick against Lecce in the game that was played between the two aforementioned fixtures.

According to reports from La Repubblica, reported via TMW, it was Osimhen himself who decided to take himself off penalty duty, having felt unnecessarily mocked by the club’s social media team.

Osimhen had scored two of the three spot-kicks he took in Serie A during the title-winning 2022/23 season, and had scored one of the two he had taken in the early stages of the 2023/24 campaign.

PoliticsCSU Says Diploma Tinubu Submitted To INEC Is Valid by saintbillion(op): 2:53pm On Oct 05, 2023
The Chicago State University (CSU) has confirmed in an affidavit that the Diploma President Bola Ahmed Tinubu submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is valid.

Atiku, the presidential candidate of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 25 election, had requested the documents to back his allegation of forgery of the CSU certificate against Tinubu.

According to the affidavit obtained by the Nation, CSU confirmed the certificate and that of 1979 it presented to the President on graduation is valid.

CSU, in the affidavit it presented to the court in Chicago, said: ” Chicago State University provided a Diploma to Bola Ahmed Tinubu and subsequently provided a certified copy of that Diploma. Both are valid and authentic Diplomas of the Chicago State University.

”There are certain differences between the Diploma and the certified copy because all diplomas are signed by the current President/Board Chairman. There are also differences in the font and seal on the Diploma because the University updated its seal and font after the diploma was issued.

”The difference in the date of award on the diploma versus the certified copy is likely the result of human error. The graduation date on the certified copy is typed in manually by a person and can be inaccurate.”

The police in Gwagwalada Area Council of the FCT have arrested a man, identified as Solomon, over the disappearance of a woman’s breasts inside a banking hall.

City & Crime learnt that the incident happened around 2pm on Tuesday, when a woman, identified as Janet, went into a branch of a new generation bank in the area to deposit money.

It was gathered that the woman, who was in a queue, claimed that the suspect who stood at her back brushed her on the shoulder and her breasts disappeared.

A witness, Pamela, said the woman collapsed as a result of dizziness and that she raised the alarm that her breast had disappeared.

Pamela further said, “One of the bank’s staff immediately invited a female security to move the lady into a bathroom to check herself properly.’’

According to her, the lady pulled off her shirt and discovered that there was no breast on her chest, a situation which prompted the bank’s security to alert the police.

She added that, “The police came and picked up the suspect, even as the lady’s breasts were returned back to her after 20 minutes.”

A police source at the division who preferred anonymity confirmed the incident, saying the suspect was still helping the police with relevant information before the next line of action.

There was no response from the spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, over the incident.

SportsMorocco, Portugal And Spain To Co-Host 2030 FIFA World Cup by saintbillion(op): 7:52pm On Oct 04, 2023
Morocco, Portugal and Spain will co-host the 2030 FIFA World Cup tournament, world football ru0ling body, FIFA has announced.

According to a statement on FIFA’s website on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, the decision was taken by the FIFA Council.

“Following extensive consultation with all confederations and given the importance of marking the centenary of the FIFA World Cup the FIFA Council took key decisions in relation to the bidding and hosting of the Centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup in 2030 during its meeting held by videoconference from the Home of FIFA.

“In 2030, the FIFA World Cup will unite three continents and six countries, inviting the entire world to join in the celebration of the beautiful game, the Centenary and the FIFA World Cup itself.

“The FIFA Council unanimously agreed that the sole candidacy will be the combined bid of Morocco, Portugal, and Spain, which will host the event in 2030 and qualify automatically from the existing slot allocation subject to the completion of a successful bidding process conducted by FIFA and a decision by the FIFA Congress in 2024.

“Additionally, having taken into account the historical context of the first-ever FIFA World Cup, the FIFA Council further unanimously agreed to host a unique centenary celebration ceremony in the country’s capital, Montevideo, where the first ever FIFA World Cup took place in 2030, as well as three World Cup matches in Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay respectively.“

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said; “In a divided world, FIFA and football are uniting. The FIFA Council, representing the entire world of football, unanimously agreed to celebrate the centenary of the FIFA World Cup, whose first edition was played in Uruguay in 1930, in the most appropriate way.

“As a result, a celebration will take place in South America and three South American countries – Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay – will organise one match each of the FIFA World Cup 2030. The first of these three matches will of course be played at the stadium where it all began, in Montevideo’s mythical Estádio Centenário, precisely to celebrate the centenary edition of the FIFA World Cup.”

Infantino added:“The FIFA Council also agreed unanimously that the only bid to host the FIFA World Cup 2030 will be the joint bid of Morocco, Portugal and Spain. Two continents – Africa and Europe – united not only in a celebration of football but also in providing unique social and cultural cohesion. What a great message of peace, tolerance and inclusion.

“In 2030, we will have a unique global footprint, three continents – Africa, Europe and South America – six countries – Argentina, Morocco, Paraguay, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay – welcoming and uniting the world while celebrating together the beautiful game, the centenary and the FIFA World Cup.”

While Morocco and Portugal have never staged the FIFA World Cup, Spain hosted the tournament in 1982.
