Politics / 2023: Na’abba, Ezekwesili, Falana, Sen Sani, Utomi, Launch Political Movement by Saintbossman: 9:01pm On Jul 01, 2020
As the nation is getting reading to go to poll for the 2023 general elections, 30 prominent Nigerian activists, academics, and other professionals, have formed a new political movement called National Consultative Front (NCF) .

Part of the he group’s objectives they said include; mobilizing Nigerians for a popular mass action towards political constitutional reforms that are citizen-driven and process-led in engendering a new peoples’ constitution for the country.

The new group disclosed this via a communique at their National Secretariat, in Abuja, on Wednesday which they said was after a month-long nationwide consultations and virtual meetings.

Listed as members of the 30-member strong steering committee for the NCF include: Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’abba; former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia; Olisa Agbakoba, SAN; Femi Falana SAN; Col. Abubakar Umar (retd.), Dr Oby Ezekwesili; Prof Jibo Ibrahim; Yabagi Sanni; Amb, Nkoyo Toyo, Isa Aremu, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, and Senator Shehu Sani.

Others include: Prof. Remi Sonaiya, Mallam Tanko Yinusa, Alhaji Shettima Yerima, Lady Funke Awolowo, Peter Ameh and Ogbeni Lanre Banjo, among others.

The group will be unveiled to the public later this month. Part of the resolutions adopted after the meeting read in part, “A new ideological mass Movement shall be initiated to embark on immediate mass mobilisation of the nooks and crannies of the country for popular mass action towards political constitution reforms that is citizens-driven and process-led in engendering a new Peoples’ Constitution for a new Nigeria that can work for all.

“The new movement shall also, without delay, mobilise for the economic wellbeing and prosperity of all Nigerians by demanding and ensuring that Chapter 2 of the present Constitution i.e.; “Fundamental Objectives & Directive Principles of State Policy becomes justiciable once and for all, while also mounting an articulate and vigorous campaign to deconstruct and reconstruct obnoxious election laws which have provided leeway for opportunists in the corridor of power to subvert the will of the electorate making voting irrelevant in determining who actually becomes elected in Nigeria.”

Members of the group expressed sadness that the nation’s political leadership has failed to protect Nigerians from the activities of bandits, armed robbers, and terrorists.

They also said it was time for Nigerians of good conscience to come together to deliver the nation from descending into chaos due to the absence of credible leadership.

The communique further read, “Our Political Coalition wish to assert that the current factionalisation and imbroglio rocking dominant political parties in Nigeria as well as the heightening political tension in the country, especially within the Nigerian ruling class, have further given credence to our resolve and intervention to provide a credible alternative political class and leadership for Nigeria as most of those who pride themselves as Leaders of our country in the last twenty-one years of civil rule have proved to be huge failures and burden to the wellbeing of our people

“To this end, we decry in categorical terms, the ongoing mindless massacre and kidnappings in the North West, North East, Southern Kaduna, the Middle Belt, Southern part of Nigeria and in fact the country at large by armed bandits and insurgents, who invade our communities, especially at night to inflict terror and murder on hapless residents and unsuspecting indigenes.

“We hereby call on those presently in charge of our Federal Government, military, and security apparatus to immediately wake up and do everything to stop the ongoing senseless pogrom against the masses of our people.”

The full communique reads;

BEING THE COMMUNIQUE OF A NATIONWIDE CONSULTATION AND ENGAGEMENT HELD BY A NEW PAN NIGERIAN CONSULTATIVE POLITICAL FRONT WITH SELECT NATIONAL LEADERS OF CONSCIENCE BETWEEN WEDNESDAY, 27TH MAY AND FRIDAY, 12 JUNE 2020. ISSUED BY THE SECRETARIAT OF NATIONAL CONSULTATIVE FRONT, NCF, TODAY, WEDNESDAY, 1ST JULY, 2020.

PREAMBLE:

Against the worrisome background of the continued slide of Nigeria into political anarchy and unabated bloodletting and deaths, owing to the incompetence and failure of the present political leadership of the country in dealing with the national democratic question of Nigeria as a diverse multi ethnic, multi religious and multi cultural entity, We, a select group of National Leaders of Conscience, Social Democrats and Revolutionary Ideologues, have been in consultations under the auspices of a new Pan Nigerian Consultative Political Front with other like-minded Fresh breed political Ideologues and Stakeholders, beginning from Wednesday, 27th May 2020 to Friday, 12 June 2020 trying to agree on a new political intervention for rescuing our dear country from the exploitative grip of a lacklustre leadership and the manipulation of a bickering, factionalised ruling political elites in Nigeria

Our nationwide consultations, essentially, motivated by patriotic concerns of Stakeholders regarding the chaotic and insecure state of Nigeria, an unfortunate situation basically induced by the country’s self serving politicians and rulers, were held largely within the prevailing ambience of the new Webinar communications technology, with a clear vision of building a new disciplined/competent Political leadership for the liberation of Nigeria’s muzzled democracy and hijacked State powers

Therefore, We of the new patriotic association of select Leaders of Conscience and Stakeholders in Project Nigeria, having undertaken thorough and painstaking deliberations and dialogue on the agenda to save our country from imminent political collapse and civil strife hereby wish to announce the outcomes of the historic national consultations and engagements as follows:

RESOLUTIONS:

1. The facilitating Secretariat of the National Consultative Front is mandated to immediately facilitate an interim steering coordinating council made up of experienced leaders of conscience and Democratic Ideologues to drive a new popular political intervention for urgently save Nigeria from the precipice of political anarchy and civil strife. The provisional leadership shall be inclusive and collegiate in structure, capturing the critical segments and crucial essence of the Nigerian diversity, in inspiring substantial confidence, trust, sense of belonging and ownership from all Stakeholders aligned within the new initiative notwithstanding social, cultural, religious and gender differences; such that every Nigerian can easily become a stakeholder and automatically imbibe a common sense of commitment and duty towards mass support, ownership and control of the new Movement slated for launching this month as a counter force to the current politics of moneybags, highest bidders and the cash and carry harakiri prevalent under the mercantilist ruling elites in Nigeria

2. A new ideological mass Movement shall be initiated to embark on an immediate mass mobilisation of the nooks and crannies of the country for popular mass action towards political constitution reforms that is citizens-driven and process-led in engendering a new Peoples’ Constitution for a new Nigeria that can work for all. The new movement shall also, without delay, mobilise for the economic wellbeing and prosperity of all Nigerians by demanding and ensuring that Chapter 2 of the present Constitution i e; Fundamental Objectives & Directive Principles of State Policy becomes justiceable once and for all, while also mounting an articulate and vigorous campaign to deconstruct and reconstruct obnoxious election laws which have provided leeway for opportunists in the corridor of power to subvert the will of the electorates making voting irrelevant in determining who actually becomes elected in NIgeria.

3. That due to the critical deficiency identified in the governance of Nigeria, especially as regards the question of competence, discipline, cohesion and lack of democratic best practices among the present ruling class; a problem emanating from the dearth of principled, disciplined and ideologically motivated Political class and the absence of democratically birthed and ideologically inspired Political parties in the country; currently breeding factional and chaotic political emissions within the country’s ruling political parties; the new Movement shall undertake, as its key mandate, the conscious cultivation/building of a new ideologically disciplined alternative Political class as well as the formation of a new formidable ideologically driven, democratic mega political platform through popular Mobilisation to provide a reliable ideological leadership for the country, while positioning the masses for electoral power as was done by ANC in South Africa.

5. Consequently, the Secretariat of the National Consultative Front has been mandated to review and tease out lessons from certain past initiatives and interventions, so as to enrich & strengthen the new initiative in such a way that mistakes are not repeated and risks can be easily mitigated in the growth and expansion of the new Movement. Similarly, it was also resolved that the Secretariat should create massive awareness and sensitization about the bankrupt political and economic situation of the country vis a vis the historical mission of the new movement’s agenda to deliver the country from its present comatose state and stem its fast decline into a failed state. To this end, the Secretariat shall engage in conscious mass mobilisation and careful recruitment of revolutionary and true Change Agents in the media, academia, grassroots; among the Women, Youths, Artisan, Vulnerable Nigerians for the purpose of organising to engender a new Nigeria that works for all.

6. The new mass movement shall deploy a dual approach in its national and public engagement by expounding a combination of ideological and pragmatic perspectives, especially in its communications in the mass/social media and its outreach to the grassroots and the everyday Nigerians. This is with the aim of clearly exposing everything wrong with Nigeria’s current governance system and its political architecture, while providing viable and workable alternatives and simplifying our new ideological mission and agenda for the country so as to make it easily understandable and interpretable for effective buy-in of every Nigerian.

7. That the emerging mass movement shall constantly consult with credible fraternal political elders for their solidarity, while consistently slating policy issues for debate & engagements at the grassroots in developing the political consciousness and culture of the ordinary people on the street for them to realize and understand how to collectively change the demoralising and demobilising narrative and situation in Nigeria without having to give up but instead take ownership of the country through solidarity with like-minded Stakeholders, based on a new conviction and confidence motivated that the country can work in the hands of a new principled and disciplined leadership

Politics / Atiku's Perpetual Ambition And Ndigbo 2023 by Saintbossman: 8:40pm On Jun 10, 2020
ATIKU'S PERPETUAL AMBITION AND NDIGBO 2023
By Law Mefor

“There is a tide in the affairs of men.
Which, taken at the flood, leads on to fortune;
Omitted, all the voyage of their life
Is bound in shallows and in miseries.
On such a full sea are we now afloat,
And we must take the current when it serves,
Or lose our ventures.”
Julius Caesar Act 4, scene 3, 218–224

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) just said that the fate of Atiku Abubakar's presidential ambition would be decided by zoning. Apart from this ominous statement, some fishy persons have been flying the same kite. Atiku's son also just did the same. Adamu Atiku-Abubakar, commissioner for Works and Energy in the Ahmadu Finitiri government, is quoted in newspapers as saying “My father will be aspiring to the number one office in the land because he has been an astute, strategic, master politician for almost four decades”.

Recall that Atiku had contested for the position of President for a record five (5) times and lost. Run-down of Atiku’s presidential ambition according to Wikipedia.org: First presidential run Atiku Abubakar launched was a bid for the Presidency in 1993, placing third after MKO Abiola and Babagana Kingibe in the Social Democratic Party (SDP) primaries.

Second presidential run was on 25 November 2006, when Atiku announced that he would run for president. On 20 December 2006, he was chosen as the presidential candidate of the Action Congress (AC).

Third presidential run in the 2007 elections, Atiku Abubakar returned to the People’s Democratic Party. In October 2010 he announced his intention to contest for the Presidency. On 22 November, a Committee of Northern Elders selected him as the Northern Consensus Candidate, over former Military President Ibrahim Babangida, former National Security Adviser Aliyu Gusau and former Governor and former senate president Bukola Saraki.

Fourth presidential run was In January 2011, when Atiku Abubakar contested for the Presidential ticket of the PDP alongside President Jonathan and Sarah Jubril, and lost the primary, garnering 805 votes to President Jonathan’s 2736. Fifth presidential run Abubakar declared his candidacy for the presidential nomination of the PDP mid-2018 and won the nomination at its convention on 7th October in Port Harcourt. He defeated 11 other contestants.

He is gunning for the 6th shot at presidency, which may earn him an enviable place in the Guinness Book of Records. There is nothing wrong with that tall ambition but this time around, being an in-law to the Ndigbo will not count. The South East has a date with history, which now beckons on them. It will be foolhardy of them to let the golden opportunity slip for sentiments.

In the likely event that Atiku fulfills that prediction, it would be his 6th attempt. He has already surpassed President Buhari's record even if he doesn’t run. Atiku Abubakar a former customs officer and former Vice President of Nigeria has become a veteran of the Presidential race in Nigeria. His ambition to rule Nigeria however unbridled is legitimate. But there is something about it. Thrice, he attempted to unseat an incumbent including Olusegun Obasanjo who made him Vice President when he was only governor-elect.

Atiku has always chosen the wrong moment to launch his bid. The last Presidential election was not a good moment. Buhari was running for his second term and they both shared a common power base with Buhari having many factors in his favour. Apart from incumbency factor, which means the world in Africa when it comes to election, the masses of the North in their millions, mostly Almajiri, prefer the man they call mai gaskiya. So, before the election, Atiku had lost the core North and had to rely on southern Nigeria to deliver him.

Whether by divine providence or political calculations, Atiku is an in-law to both Ndigbo and the Yoruba. He is married to Jennifer Iwenjiora Douglas-Abubakar from Onitsha Anambra State and Titi Abubakar from Ijesha Osun State. Atiku also wisely picked Peter Obi, a well-respected achiever and former Governor of Anambra State, as his running mate.

Ndigbo, as expected, rallied behind Atiku/Obi ticket aka ‘Atikulate Team’. South South queued behind them too. The election came and Atiku won his own state only by the whisker. When watchers knew that Atiku’s base was shaken to the core was when his own governor Bindo Umaru Jibrilla refused to endorse him, let alone defect to the PDP in his honour and support as expected.

On the whole, zonally, Atiku won only the South East and South South. South West followed the side their bread was buttered - APC where their son, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, was and still is Vice President. Surprisingly (though some say as usual), the Middle Belt played the northern card and voted for Buhari, including Plateau.

Now, amidst the growing clamour for Nigerian President of Igbo extraction, Atiku via his son and others says he is coming out again. What he is telling the South East is to commit political harakiri and asphyxiation by burying their ambition until his is fulfilled despite trying for the umpteenth time. This is as unfair as it is indefensible. One thing anybody can take to the bank is that the South East will take their chances with the 2023 Presidential election by supporting one of their own against whatever outcome.

It is important to remind those propping up Atiku again that one of the reasons he fell out with Igbo political leaders after the PDP Port Harcourt convention was for the interest of the South East in 2023 and his refusal to commit to a single term. That South East interest has not changed and will not be obliterated by his ambition. Let him not be deceived by political jobbers who may be telling him that the South East route is pliable.

Where does the South East interest in 2023 leave Atiku’s perennial Presidential ambition? It means he has to build an alternative power base as South East and South South will not go with him this time even if he chooses South East running mate again. His experience under Obasanjo and the experience of Osinbajo under Buhari have not shown that the office of the Vice President is relevant and desirable in Nigeria for Ndigbo to be so keen on it.

Besides, Ndigbo want to become the President of Nigeria, having waited in the wings for 50 years since the civil war.

Both the ambition of Ndigbo and that of Atiku Abubakar are both legitimate, one must concede. But ordinarily, he should be advised to support the South East as they have always supported him. But if he insists on his ambition, it will be naturally, 'to your tents oh Israel'.

Ndigbo see 2023 as a magic year for their dream to lead Nigeria. It is the season when power is returning to Southern Nigeria and the two other zones in the South have already taken their turn. Morality requires them to cede power to the remaining zone - the South East.

There is justification for this great expectation. South East supported Chief Olusegun Obasanjo to become President in 1999 and 2003, even when his kit and kin deserted him. The South East supported Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to become President in 2010 and 2011. Even when the whole country seemed to turn against his presidency, the South East stuck with him.

It is therefore not out of sync for the South East to expect to reap some goodwill from the two zones of the South in zone's quest for 2023. In the unlikely event that the other zones would connive and deny the Igbo man his right to lead Nigeria, a country they co-founded and played a pivotal role in its liberation, it will be a redefining moment for them. They will then know that indeed they do not belong here and shall factor such new reality into their future calculations and survival strategies.

It will therefore be tragic if the South East does not go for President in 2023. One can see the South West eyeing the position yet again, after producing a President for 8 years and Vice President who is also pushing 8 years in this same dispensation. One also sees some calculations for bringing back Dr. Goodluck Jonathan and South South into the mix. Such high-wired politics is natural but must not override reason and the urgency for social justice and equity in Nigeria.

As said, the Nigerian President of Igbo extraction offers no silver bullet. But it will offer a healing process for the country and end disunity. It will end the civil war, which has continued in animosity for 50 years. The time to move the nation forward is now. The pussyfooting and shenanigans have to stop.

Politics / Orji Uzor Kalu Is Finally Out Of Prison! by Saintbossman: 8:11pm On Jun 03, 2020
Orji Uzor Kalu is Finally out Of Prison.

He stepped out of Kuje Correctional Centre this evening after the completion of his release formalises. The court had transmitted the judgment as well as Warrant of Release duly signed by Justice Liman to the authorities of Kuje Correctional Centre, Abuja this morning to facilitate the senator’s freedom.

Justice Liman of the Federal High Court, Lagos had on Tuesday ordered the immediate release of Kalu. He also set aside the trial, conviction, and sentence of the former governor to 12 years imprisonment on December 5, 2019, in accordance with the earlier ruling of the Supreme Court. In his ruling, Justice Liman ordered Kalu’s immediate release from prison as well as set aside the earlier trial and order given by Justice MB Idris that Slok Nigeria Limited be wound up and its assets forfeited to Federal Government.

Kalu had gone to court asking for his release in line with the Supreme Court’s judgment last month nullifying his trial and conviction. The Supreme Court had ruled that since Justice Idris was elevated to the Court of Appeal, he had no jurisdiction to have concluded Kalu’s trial. The apex court therefore nullified the conviction and ordered a retrial.

product of turn -by-turn. Obasanjo was in a product of turn-by -turn. Yaradua was a product of turn -by-turn. Jonathan was a product of turn-by -turn. Buhari is a product of turn-by -turn. So what is Alh. Funtua talking about Ibegbu querried. Why is it now its Igbo turn that its no longer turn - by-turn Ibegbu asked accusing Alh Funtua of beingamong those promoting political injustice and inequity in Nigeria. He is among those misadvising the Cabals in power and this is not in the best interest of Nigeria. Ibegbu noted that though Merit should be the primary motive in electing our leaders, it should first go round before we now make it free for all.

WE are in a peculiar circumstance so let it go round
first and by then we would have been liberal and matured enough not to care where the President comes from. By then people from Katsina or Akwa Ibom can continue to produce the President and we would not care as long as there is food on our table, Ibegbu sounded.

Ibegbu also condemned the lopsided nature of the siting of federal establishments in Nigeria wondering how the federal government would site an Airforce University in Bauchi, Army University in Biu and a Transport University at the same time in Daura without any in the south or East noting that its the worst form of nepotism combined with the lopsided appointments in federal MDAs. Ibegbu noted that Buhari is running a sectional and nepotic government and he must retrace his step. Why cant he site a Military institution in Otuoke or Ikwerre land . Why cant he site a gigantic federal establishment in Umuahia . Are these places not part of Nigeria. Why is Rotimi Amaechi not interested to tell Mr President to revive Port Harcout -Maidugiri rail line and
build the East - West line . Why , Ibegbu queried.
Politics / Democracy Day/ PANPIEC; Prince Erondu Uche Comments On Buhari's Administration by Saintbossman: 9:39pm On May 30, 2020
DEMOCRACY DAY; PANPIEC SPOKESMAN PRINCE ERONDU UCHE COMMENTS ON NIGERIA DEMOCRACY, SCORES BUHARI'S ADMINISTRATION.

Amidst different comments and criticism pouring in as Nigeria celebrated her Democracy day on May 29, 2020, the Spokesman of Pan Nigeria Presidency of Igbo Extraction Coalition PANPIEC - Prince Erondu Uche has expressed his happiness that despite the different challenges that the country is faced with, Nigeria had remained under democratic rule.

The PANPIEC Chieftain made this known while featuring on TBE popular Television programme "Politics today". He said that the people of Nigeria has done well in subscribing and sustaining democracy since 1999. "One major thing we have achieved as a country is that we have maintained democracy whether we are yet to get it right or not, unlike before where the military would have taken over before now because they would have seen enough reasons to have done so. Kudos to Nigerians on this". He urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the Nation's democracy and called on Politicians at all levels to lead by good examples.

Prince Erondu Uche said that one of the visible dividends of democracy since Nigeria 1999 till date is the freedom of speech. " Although Olusegun Obasanjo did not receive much criticism, Goodluck Jonathan and Mohammad Buari have both come under heavy criticism both constructive and destructive. Under the military you can't do such and get away with it. We are all part of governance now because we have a say. You support what you like and criticize the ones you don't like even if it is not taken, you have made your point". On the abuse of freedom of speech on social media and spread of fake news, Prince Erondu said it is wrong and advised those involved to desist from such as it distracts leaders and will further deter democratic progress.

On Buhari's score card within five years in power 2015 to 2020 the Pan Nigeria Presidency of Igbo Extraction Coalition PANPIEC Spokesman said that the greatest legacy that Buhari's led administration would be remembered for is handing over to a democratically elected Igbo Man or Woman on May 29,2023. "President Muhammad Buhari would have written his name in gold by doing this".

Prince Erondu Uche noted that the group has concluded plans on paying President Buhari a visit once the lockdown is over.
He urged all political Parties to zone the Presidency to Igbo land and advised Nigerians to support PANPIEC quest for an Igbo to occupy the number one position in Nigeria in 2023.
He also thanked all the groups who are either joining or partnering with PANPIEC as the umbrella body for the all groups championing the quest for Igbo to be Nigeria's President in 2023.

Politics / BREAKING: Supreme Court Nullifies Orji Uzor Kalu’s Conviction by Saintbossman: 12:03pm On May 08, 2020
The Supreme Court, apex court of the land has declared void the judgement that convicted and sentenced former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor-Kalu to 12 years imprisonment.

TheNewsGuru.com (TNG) reports the Supreme Court declared void the judgement on Friday in a unanimous decision by a seven-man panel of Justices led by Justice Amina Augie.

Recall the Federal High Court in Lagos sentenced the former Abia Governor to 12 years’ imprisonment for N7.2 billion fraud and money laundering on Thursday 5th December 2019.

The court convicted Kalu, now a senator, on all the 39 counts preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) charge.

Kalu was charged alongside a former Commissioner for Finance, in the state Jones Udeogo, and his company, Slok Nig. Ltd. While Kalu and his company were found guilty of all the 39 counts, Udeogo was convicted on 34 counts and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. The court ordered that the Slok Nig. Ltd. Should be wound up and its assets forfeited to the Federal Government.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has held that the Federal High Court in Lagos acted without jurisdiction when it convicted Kalu, his firm, Slok Nigeria Limited and the former Director of Finance in Abia State, Jones Udeogu.
According to the panel, the trial Justice Mohammed Liman was no longer a judge of the Federal High Court as at the time he sat and delivered the judgement that convicted the defendants for allegedly stealing about N7.1billion from Abia state treasury.

The Supreme Court averred that Justice Liman, having been elevated to the Court of Appeal before then lacked the powers to return to sit as a High Court Judge.
It held that the Fiat that was issued to him by the Court of Appeal President pursuant to section 396(7) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act was unconstitutional.
Consequently, the apex court vacated the judgement that convicted the defendants and ordered a fresh trial of the defendants

Politics / Easing Of Lockdown; Abia State Government's Position by Saintbossman: 12:58pm On May 02, 2020
Highlights of remarks by Governor Okezie Ikpeazu at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Umuahia, on Friday, 1st May, 2020

Abia state Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu, met with a cross section of Abia leaders including members of the clergy, commercial transport operators, market unions, medics and members of inter ministerial committee on COVID-19, to deliberate on a gradual easing of the ongoing lockdown in the state.

The following are some of the resolutions reached at the meeting as announced by the Governor, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu:

1. It has become obvious that we cannot lock down forever. There shall therefore be a phased and gradual easing of the lockdown in the state which was occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 in Nigeria.

2. Our meeting today looked at 7 major issues in that regard and most of them have been resolved

3. Our consensus is that we will gradually allow the operations of commercial tricyclists (Keke) but on the condition that every Keke operator and passenger must wear face mask with only 2 passengers allowed at a time.

4. We also agreed that the mini buses (Oke Bekee) will carry not more than 5 passengers at any given time and every one of them must wear a face mask. For the 14-seater buses and above, we agreed that only 2 passengers will be allowed per row and in all cases, all of them including the driver must wear their face masks.

5. We have also decided that for now we should keep our school children at home which means all our schools will remain closed but we must reinforce our radio classroom initiatives, which entail learning through radio, an initiative which we have started already. All radio stations in the state will be hooked unto that platform to ensure wider and deeper coverage. Parents are called upon also to exhibit high sense of responsibility in preparing their children to be ready before the radio program which starts at 8am every week day.

6. For our markets, we will meet the leadership of the various markets, and in meeting government, we expect them to raise a team of 17 persons per market that will serve as COVID-19 committee members for their respective markets. The selected 17 persons will meet the Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Governor, to try to teach them or sensitize them on some of the imperatives of COVID-19 which include that every shop going forward must have a bucket of running water, that is bucket with tap, and then soap and hand sanitizers. Social distancing must be observed in all our markets. The details and the schedule for the eventual reopening of our markets will be determined only after these 17-man team of each market has met with government through the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff and agreed on same.

7. We have also agreed that for now, the leadership of our respective Churches will take responsibility for the conduct and behavior of the laity even as we have agreed that they can worship from this weekend. We are pleased with their conduct before now and we expect that they will continue to maintain the practice of sitting 2 persons per pew. For Churches that don't have pews, alternate positioning of church members ensuring that we do not have overcrowded churches and places of worship. We have also agreed to run many streams of one hour service each to ensure that all Faithfuls are accommodated and then all churches must close activities on or before 2pm on worship days.

8. For burials, we have noticed that most of our morgues are overburdened as it were and we may have difficulties in our hands if we continue to keep the corpses without burial. In addition to this, preservation may become an issue and we may have avoidable challenges. Government has therefore decided to allow burials since we don't have any COVID-19 related mortality yet. But the burial events which should hold in the nearest fields must observe social distancing and not have more than 30 persons in attendance.

If the burial is to hold in a compound, then those who attend must not be more than 10 persons. And for a burial to be allowed, the Church involved will obtain a permit directly from the Office of the Secretary to State Government, or through the Traditional Ruler of the community as the case maybe for those who believe in traditional religion. However, such a traditional ruler will need to obtain a permit from the Office of Secretary to the State Government with leadership of the Local Government Area monitoring such a burial. They have been authorized to disrupt burials that are conducted in flagrant disregard to these directives.

9. We are also preparing our civil servants to resume but starting with only schedule officers and their immediate support staff. And when they resume they will only work for alternate days and close office latest at 3pm. At no time are we expecting to have more than 20 persons per Ministry during this period.

10. The measures above do not in any way affect the subsisting dusk to dawn (6pm to 6am) curfew in the state, inter state boundary closure, tricycle and other commercial transporters will only resume operation after endorsing a memorandum of understanding with the government on the new guidelines.

11. Finally, I am very happy and proud to announce to us that just this afternoon, the Ministry of Environment and Abia State Government have signed agreement with the World Bank for the commencement of the N27.2 billion project in Aba and we expect ground breaking to take place any moment from now. This project includes the most ambitious water management project ever done in our state with Ngwa Road and other areas expected to be fixed.

Press Release

We wish to draw the attention of the federal government of Nigeria and Abia state government to the sufferings of Abia Citizens in Diaspora. The lockdown has grossly affected our economic wellbeing.

Almost all the states have ordered closure of markets, shops, schools etc to contain the spread of the virus which is a welcome development. But the closure without provision of relief materials and preventive materials is now another problem. Our members who largely petty traders, artisans, farmers and unemployed including the aged, women, youths and children are languishing in starvation as they cannot go out to find their daily bread. This situation has further worsened their pitiable conditions as many are now sick.

We wish also to state that millions of our members all over Nigeria have no access to the palliatives provided by the federal government of Nigeria despite the presence of some of our national leaders in Abuja.

Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora CCAD therefore call on President Muhammadu Buhari, Dr Okezie Ikpeazu the Governor of Abia State, all Federal Lawmakers of Abia state origin, Politicians, Philanthropists and Well meaning Nigerians to come to our aid by providing relief materials, cash donations and other related incentives to cushion the effects of this lockdown.

Religion / COVID-19; Pastors Who Hold Secret Meetings Against Govt Order Are Sinners by Saintbossman: 9:11am On Mar 29, 2020
A Fellowship known as Familyand Friendz Fellowship(3F) that specialises in praying and taking care for pastors and their families especially those in need had said that pastors who in engage in holding secret church programmes against government directives are sinners. A post on its Facebook page revealed that going by biblical principles churches are supposed to obey government orders. The post further revealed that no matter how anointed or highly placed such Men of God are, that they ate sinners before God and such disobedience could cause more escalation of the virus. It also called on all Christians to join in them in their ongoing one month fasting and prayers to stop the virus.
Details bellow;

THE POSITION OF FAMILYAND FRIENDZ FELLOWSHIP IS THAT CHURCHES CAN ONLY HOLD ONLINE MEETINGS.
HOLDING ANY OTHER FORM OF HOUSE FELLOWSHIP MEETINGS OR SECRET CHURCH PROGRAMMES AGAINST GOVERNMENT ORDER IS SIN AGAINST GOD AND PUNISHMENT WILL FOLLOW.

ROM 13:1-5 (NLT)

Rom 13
*1.* Obey the government, for God is the one who put it there. All governments have been placed in power by God.

*2.* So those who refuse to obey the laws of the land are refusing to obey God, and punishment will follow.

*3.* For the authorities do not frighten people who are doing right, but they frighten those who do wrong. So do what they say, and you will get along well.

*4.* The authorities are sent by God to help you. But if you are doing something wrong, of course you should be afraid, for you will be punished. The authorities are established by God for that very purpose, to punish those who do wrong.

*5.* So you must obey the government for two reasons: to keep from being punished and to keep a clear conscience.

No matter how anointed or highly placed you are, disobedience to the above can result to outbreak of coronavirus in your Church.

Politics / Shut Down Abia State Now! Group Advises Abia Governor Over COVID-19 Outbreak by Saintbossman: 7:08pm On Mar 24, 2020
A Group, Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora CCAD, the Parent body of all Abia Indigenous Social, Cultural and Political Groups in the Diaspora had advised Abia state government to shut down commercial activities in the state over the fear of Coronavirus.

The President General of the group who also is the Director of Media and Publicity of Pan Nigeria Presidency of Igbo Extraction Coalition(PANPIEC) the umbrella body of all groups agitating for Igbo to be President in 2023, Prince Erondu Uche gave this advise to Abia Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in a media briefing held in Akure Ondo state today March 24th 2020.

Prince Erondu Uche noted that the heavy in flock of business men and women from all parts of West Africa and Nigeria especially states and countries with recorded cases of the virus pose great danger to the state.
Details below;

CONCERNED CITIZENS OF ABIA IN DIASPORA (CCAD) WANTS ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT TO SHUT DOWN ABIA TO PREVENT COVID-19 OUTBREAK IN THE STATE.

Press Release.
24/03/2020.

Due to the outbreak and fast spread of the dreaded deadly coronavirus in Nigeria within the last few weeks, the Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora wishes to advice Abia state government led by Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu to shut down activities in Abia state in order to save Abia citizens and residents from the ravaging pandemic.

This call became necessary because of the daily in flock of businessmen and women who frequent Aba the commercial hub of West Africa on daily basis to buy goods from all parts of Nigeria including West African countries. It is on record that major cities like Lagos, Abuja and others have recorded the outbreak of the deadly virus. Despite this news, People from these cities where the outbreak have been recorded visit and exit Abia on daily basis thereby posing great danger to Abia residents. Also with the alleged reports of some government officials and political officeholders being suspected carriers of the virus, there is urgent need to shut down Abia as other States with less commercial activities have already done.

We do not have to wait to have outbreak before we shut down. Prevention is better than cure.

Based on the above mentioned, Concerned Citizens of Abia in Diaspora (CCAD) suggest the following as preventive measures to save Abia state;
1. All schools at all levels should be closed.
2. All major markets should be locked down.
3. All Religious, social and political gatherings should be prohibited.
4. All ministries should be closed while workers will be advised to work from home.
5. All political officeholders and government officials who have recently visited countries and states in Nigeria where there are reported cases of the outbreak should voluntarily submit themselves for test.
6. All who have had close contact with those who are carries of the coronavirus are advised to make themselves available for test and possibly self isolation.

We also wish to call on all Religious leaders in the state to join others who are praying for God to save our dear state, country and the world at large. Finally we call all Abia residents to maintain high level of hygiene and observe the safety measures prescribed by health workers.

God bless Abia God's own state!

Signed;
Prince Erondu Uche
